Been out the loop for little bit on the site, looking in now seeing updates to 2.3.4, whats the differences in the flashes, seems like stock one and modded ones, but official one not out yet. is that the case? Im interested in the theme changing and keeping up to date just confused as to whats all going one. I see some are not reversible. I currently have 4.1.8.3 with android 2.2.2 with gingerbreak. what options do i have as far as updating my system, trying to see the path to take. so if someone willing, could be a beginners guide to 2.3.4 something like.
2.3.4 OTA -> update cant do.....
2.3.4 stock-> different from OTA because....
2.3.4 orange gingerbread...
also i see unlocking bootloader is not reversible. is only reason for that so themes can be installed?
I would stay away from the 2.3.4 ota it has bricked peoples phones when they try to rad back to stock the. Zip rims are really well done and u have a guide in the general section of this forum its a detailed video

I am currently waiting on the official Gingerbread to be released rather than flashing the custom 2.3.4 build that's floating around XDA. I'm basically wondering if, when the official Gingerbread is released, will the unlocking option be available in the update or will I have to do something else to actually unlock the bootloader? If it isn't an option that Motorola will provide, will it be easy after the update or should I update it now?
Lastly, I am using GingerBlur 4.5, so I'm assuming I will have to flash back to 4.1.8.3 to get the official update? I'm VERY worried about hard bricking my phone so what do I want to avoid (and why do I want to avoid so and so)??
Thanks for the help.

First part I'm not sure but you can unlock later. Second yes sbf to stock for updates

Bootloader for the official ota 4.5.91 update floating around the forums does not allow you to unlock it. At least not officially. You can still use pudding sbf to unlock. Check pudding thread.
Also updating to the official ota update 4.5.91 posted here you cannot SBF back to an old 4.1.26, .57, or .83 SBF or you will hard brick. This means don't flash anything besides the bootloader pudding sbf with RSD lite.
Chances are we already have gingerbread for AT&T Atrix but we will find out soon enough.

You will probably need to SBF back to 4.1.83 to install the update, but u should be notified about the update when its available, unless you froze updater 2.2.1 with titanium backup.

This thread might help clarify regarding the locked bootloader:

Unlock it right now with pudding and flash lastest 2.3.4 with CWM. After that you are going to ask yourself: why didn't I do that before?

I updated with the official OTA to 2.3 and I've been reading a ton about the hardbrick mess that has surfaced along with the 2.3 update. Basically, I'm wondering what are my options as far as rooting, unlocking, and roms. Or am I SOL for the time being?
rooting, unlocking and roms are available for you. I OTA'd as well..couple days ago I unlocked my Atrix. Only thing you CAN'T do ..now that you've OTA'd.. is you CANNOT downgrade with RSD. That will cause a hardbrick.

Okay, that's as far as my understanding of the matter went haha.
It may seem like a noob question, but what is the need to downgrade?
Hardbricks are from downgrading to a previous firmware.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I want to know why I would need to downgrade?

sometimes things go wrong when modding your phone. downgrading will restore your phone back to a factory state.
Okay, that's what I was thinking. So couldn't we just create a back up of our 2.3 OTA and revert back to that if something went wrong?
from what i understand you can sbf 4.5.91
"You can sbf 4.5.91 because it has the same identical bl bp pass"
quoted from here..right under the picture.

That's the correct way of doing things without hardbricking, yes.
Unlock the BL, install CWM and create a backup of you system before modding.
Whatever you do DO NOT SBF back to earlier build.
Wow! This is the best answer I've been looking for for two days! There should be a lot of deleting and simplifying on this forum. People are going to mess up their phones. Just saying.

For AT&T users, we had some good hacks that recommended that you went down to original stock Froyo.
Something like that is not an option anymore...
Makes sense, but I do prefer GB over Froyo in so many ways so its worth it for me, and hopefully new hacks and what not will surface in time. I'm patient lol.
well, some people also like to downgrade cause they like Froyo (huh?! who?!) and some people want back fingerprint (but im a patient one, so I won't ditch my gingerbread for something so silly =P). Like everyone said, if you DO need to SBF, just SBF back to 4.5.91. If you have an unlocked bootloader and flashed Tenfar's CWM, however, just eat your Fruitcakes and you'll be good to go. Those are totally safe (as far as I know =D Mmmmmmmm)
Happy upgrading! =]

Sorry for the n00b question. I have rooted and ROM'ed quite a few times, but I haven't messed with my new Thunderbolt much. I tried a few of the roms, but I wasn't really happy with any of them, so I reverted back to stock. Anyway, I want to give the new 2.11.605.0 Gingerbread ROM leak a try, but I haven't been really following these leaks much.
I know how to root and how to load the ROM, but is there a way to root these Gingerbread leaks? Is there an easy way to revert back to stock so I can get the real release when it goes OTA? If anyone has any links they could send me, that'd be great.
Thanks, appreciate it ahead of time!

There are only a few stock nonrooted ruus out there. If u know how to flash a rom, then just go to the development section n poke around til u see a rom u like. There's also a few threads on how to revert to stock if/when needed. Football n DroidTh3ory just released the new 2.11 w a few version (rooted/deodexed/debloated etc)
Ah, yes. Been fiddling around since I posted this. Saw the new Revolutionary rooting method too, which is nice. Just saw they posted all those new versions. This is what I need. Thanks for the reply!
fairly new to the rooting process myself, the eris was my first android and rooted that running cyanogen, but it crapped out on me because i had an issue with the trackball. at any rate...
i've rooted my tb and have been having more and more force close issues, sometimes causing me to miss an alarm in the morning. no fun. i'd like to run the latest 2.11 ruu deodexed so i can theme it, i know i like to tweak with the appearance. currently just running stock sense with a root, no other mods, but i am curious if i flash 2.11, which radio(s) should i have? i've seen screen shots where it appears a person has 2 radios, i've seen posts with links to 2-in-1 radios for the lte/cdma networks and i've seen posts where ppl say to mix and match.
basically, i'd like to run something stable, fast and smooth without having to set extra alarm clocks! initially i rooted so i'd be able to take advantage of wireless tethering, but i'd like to do a bit more with it. could someone please advise??
Ruu

I think I'm correct in saying that if it says "RUU" its an .exe file so it can be added without rooting. I have the 211 RUU and it installed without rooting. You cn use the Revolutionary method for s-off and it also roots your phone if you want to. However, I think there is no way of going back to s-on once you use revolutionary method.
Okay so here it is. I deleted the stock apps from my atrix on 2.2.2 with bell and tried to upgrade to gingerbread. I think this is why it has been failing each time I try. I have downloaded the 2.2.2 gobstopper as well as RSD lite and Ihop. I am reasonably confident that I can navigate through all of these in order to get back to 2.2.2 and then OTA to 2.3. What I am unsure of though is where or not I actually need to unlock my bootloader and what will happen after I do so. I have heard rumours of a few bricked phones and that's scaring the **** out of me. If someone could just give me an assist here it would be much appreciated.
Just realized I don't know how to flash the Gobstopper in the first place :S
Can't u just use RSDlite to flash a stock froyo .sbf and then OTA up to gingerbread?

Hey!
Today I recieved my new t-mobile uk Atrix, sent to me from England.
Before I got it I had a HTC Desire, rooted, CWM installed and running custom AOSP roms with 2.3. I really liked that setup, minimalistic and no useless bloatware.
I've tried to read up on the matter, but it's a jungle..
This is how I understand it:
If I update to stock 2.3, it will be harder to unlock it and install custom roms in the future. This is wrong, it would in fact be much easier.
There probably won't be any AOSP roms, because the Atrix is quite different from the other phone, with the webtop and fingerprint reader (which i probably wont even use)
If it wasn't for all the red warning text, it would already be unlocked and romed. So what to do? Unlock and search through the masses for a bugg free deblurred 2.3 rom, or just update with the stock update and run with Zeam launcher instead? Can you install a stock rom on a unlocked bootloader?
Any ideas? Other suggestions?
Thanks for your help!

i'd say go for it, just do your research beforehand. it's a pretty simple process, just flash the corresponding pudding .sbf and run the 'fastboot oem unlock' command while in fastboot mode.
then you can proceed to flash a copy of CWM Recovery and install CM7, which is as AOSP as it gets! it doesn't have Fingerprint Scanner or Webtop yet, but Top Men are working on it so expect it all up and working before too long!
Thank you for the respons!
so I basically do what this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196747) says?
Also, I saw a video where the person warned not to run RSD if you weren't on the newest, non gingerbread, release of stock. I assume that applies to t-mobile users aswell?

You and me both. I've had mine for a while (March) and have yet to take that leap. So far, running 2.3.4 O.T.A. w/root I am pretty satisfied. While I am certain that the experience would be greatly enhanced by flashing a different rom. I am simply too much of a chicken to take that leap. I've messed with a few other Android devices and was never too worried when flashing roms. But geez, all of those brick stories around here...
Whichever way that you decide to go, I am sure that you will be fine. The best of luck to ya.
Can anyone just confirm that I need to stuff in this order:
Root it.
Unlock bootloader using this method
Install a CWM, (probably gonna go with RomRacers)
Install a ROM.
ok i did the ota to 2.3 eventually used the autoscripter in general to root/unlock and aosp roms are starting with the cm7 beta once they have finished product its open game so far on cm7 beta myself totally worth it
