I want to stream AVI files from my computer to my Nook. GMote doesn't work with AVI. I downloaded VLC Stream and Convert. I fired it up, pointed it at my desktop and it just worked. I was very impressed with it except that it streams all my videos in 4" X 4". I'm sure this would be great on a phone, but I've got 7" to work with here.
Does anyone know of an app that will reliably stream media in full screen? I'm willing to pay for an app that does this. I just need to stream over wifi when I'm at home.
I use CifsManager to mount windows shares, and then RockPlayer Lite to play videos off those shares. It will stretch to full screen, but unless you format the video correctly it's stuck with software decoding.
GMote plays AVI for me, do you have rockplayer?
No Rockplayer. I don't want to have to mount shares. It's an extra step. VLC Stream and Convert works perfectly except it's small screen. I open the app, click on browse, browse to the file I want to play and click play. It buffers and plays with no issues except for the screen size.
There's no extra steps, you browse to the avi you want to play in gmote, click it and rockplayer opens it.
I tested out the GMote Rockplayer combo you all suggested. It worked very well, except I can't seem to fast forward and skip around inside of videos. Is this something I"m doing wrong or is it a limitation of this solution?

I think it may be a limitation. If there's a fix, I don't know it. Rockplayer by itself allows skipping around but youve got it streaming the video through GMote and I doubt that Rockplayer is communicating to GMote.
I got this to work with VLC Stream and Convert. There are options buried in the menu to make the output full screen. I love it. I have to start VLC on my computer ahead of time which is kind of a pain, but I'm at home anyway when I'm doing this. Once I do though, I can stream any of my media and also fast forward, rewind and skip around in it whether in portrait or landscape. Highly recommend this.
I was hoping to provide a solution using orb or Androrb, but I tried with mplayer, rockplayer, and stock player with no luck.
Gmote/rockplayer works for me, but no ff as mentioned. If the v player dev could support the nc it may have potential.
To the above poster, you could use teamviewer to log in to your pc and start the vlc stream.

I suspect that Gmote/Rockplayer doesn't have FF because it's not accessing the stream directly. Gmote is accessing the stream and forwarding it to Rockplayer. I'm in my house when I'm using my NC and I have a VLC shortcut on my toolbar so it doesn't take but a second to start it. I could probably configure VLC to start the web interface part automatically when Windows starts, but I'm too lazy to look into that right now.

Does this require you to be on the same network as Said PC for it to work, ie, can I stream Video from home PC when I am in another area, like the mall, or your moms house?

VLC convert and stream allows this, yes.
vlc stream and convert works fine, you just have to mess with the settings, make sure video playback width is set to 1040 or screen width
When I try to use S&C on my Nook (CM7), it tells me "buffering" for about a minute, then tells me it can't play, too many errors. Installed it on my Inspire HD and it works great. Any ideas, anyone?

Do you have it set to h.264 in the streaming settings? I'm not sure how well the other settings work (if at all).

Yup. Went through the entire setup, all of the settings mirror the ones on my Inspire. Frustrating.

I tried the same thing, works great in rooted Eclair but not in any of the CM7 versions. I think it is because there is no DSP working in CM7, but I could be wrong.
I am having issues streaming movies wirelessly. I can connect to my TV using wifi and stream music, but when I try to do the same with the movies, I get an error message. Am I doing something wrong? I downloaded DivX movies, avi, and none work. What am I doing wrong?
You gotta give us some more details in order to help you out. What method are you using to try and stream movies? What does the error msg your getting say?
Streaming
First going to a Gallery. Selecting a Video. After clicking on a menu, and it gives you 3 options Trim, Select player, and Play in 3D.
Don't remember the exact error since I'm not at home at the current moment, but it pretty much says that this type of a file is not supported.
Common issue is that the program may not support that specific file type... There are a lot of ways to end up with a .avi file, some work better then others...
Try a .mpg or .mpeg ... If those types play fine, Its the file, If they don't either... Hard Reset. (most likely a jacked up codec or damaged media player program on the phone)
I have downloaded video formats .mpg and .mpeg
Did a Hard Reset, and still unable to stream
I get a message "The player is unable to play this type of file"
I don't know what else to do.
I have had 100% success with .mp4 movies. Try encoding your videos with Wondershare or Handbrake using the H.264 codec (Best Quality) IMO.
Keep the files below 2GB - EVO doesn't like them any bigger. (could that be your issue? Are you trying to play files that are larger than 2GB?)
No, the movie is 1.95 GB.
I just want to be able to stream it without converting anything, from my phone on to my TV. (I have a SONY LED 3D 55" TV)
I even tried my PS3, and that didn't work. Maybe there is an app that streams any format?
Make sure ur tv has DLNA, that's how its streams it. If ur tv doesn't have it then it won't work

I can stream some formats of music and pictures, so I'm assuming if I can stream those, then my TV is capable for DLNA?

The 2GB issue is not that the Evo doesn't like it, it is a limitation of FAT32.
Not really sure what other file systems the phone will read, but if it supports ext2/ext3/ext4 then you shouldn't have the file size limitation any more.
Then I would search the market for vid players that play all formats and try again. I believe arc media does

The 2GB limitation is currently a limitation of Android. FAT32 has a 4GB limitation.
There are bugs already posted about the 2GB limitation of Android.
I'm having another issue. A couple days ago I could see my pc under devices named daniel-pc. Click on that (I'm within the music app trying to simply stream music from my shared folder on my computer) and I was receiving an error message saying something to the effect of I do not have permission to access this... Please allow access and try again. I don't remember the exact wording and I will post about that when I can get to it.
For now I have a different issue. I am connected to my wifi, I go to the music app hit the top evo 3d thing or menu -> select player and it simply buffers for a min then does not find my damn pc for some reason. I did a factory reset, no dice, hooked up via cable, ditto. I Updated profile and prl. I Did absolutely nothing different to my computer or router settings. I Updated my router firmware after not working which also did not help.
Btw my xbox which is hooked up via ethernet finds and plays daniel-pc just fine. My computer is not wifi its using ethernet to get to the router. As I sed earlier I could see my pc when going to select player so that isn't the issue. Thanks ahead. First post sorry for the length.
have u tried the media share app on the phone if that didnt work try tversity for your computer instead of your phone.
Media share works fine. As soon as I turn it on htc media share pops up on the left side of wmp. I can pull up my media from my phone easily. I'm trying to do the opposite and play files from my pc on my phone using the select player option. You can find this also by opening a picture up pressing menu then select player. if your on wifi now your computer should show up. At least that's what it used to do
I usually don't make any fuss over apps, but this one kicks too much but.
It's a media player, which plays all your usual formats. (no 1080p)
What makes this app really awesome, besides its free, is its built in lan support and ability to play movies inside rar files.
It also automatically searches for subtitles and downloads them, even over lan play!
Check it out, it's on the market with support for tegra 2.
I am using it and it is the best really. Is there a paid version and what is diff between free?

I have a setup at home that uses a NAS connected to the router to enable my PS3, my laptops and my Android devices to access videos and music from the entire house. THE issue that my Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1 never has been able to show the videos from the NAS (streamed from the network to my tab that is).
This player has changed that completely. NOW it just simply works beautifully!
It also black out the bottom bar while playing, like the stock video player.
Sent from my GT-P7510
I don't have any problems with the stock video player.
stock doesn´t play mkv files.
i only know dice player witch can play mkv.but it´s a paid app.
this is the best player for free ! but the best option ist the lan mode.its possible to stream 720p videos without lag !the code engine is verry good.
i bought dice player and BSplayer one up's it other than i dont like the UI.
so guys mx player vs BS player vs Dice player ...
which it the best
In terms of player performance,
Dice wins hands down - seriously impressive performance no matter what I throw at it.
But Lan Mode on BS Player!! DAMN!!
now thats impressive! - can play anything.
noob question, how do you setup the lan mode?

You need to make sure you are connected to your local wi-fi network and you have shared video folders on a connected PC.
Then click on Lan Mode (menu button )
and enter the details for the computer you want to connect to - either by ip address or computer name
also enter the usernamme and password of a user with priviledges to the shared folder.
Once you do that you will be able to connect to all of the videos in that folder.
What I find amazing is just how well videos stream using this
to the point that you dont have to actually copy movies to your phone when you are at home.
Its very well put together.
you can also save playlists of movies on your remote server

Just share the folder with movies on your desktop. use esfile explorer to find the shares. just swipe to the net tab, add new, scan. find your pc and hit the file you want to watch. if your movie isn't mp4 you can use mono or vplayer to watch with out converting

It seems to stutter on playback. Only .mp4 file I had to try was a 4GB 1080p movie so that might be the problem.

Hi:

i used kalemsoft media player and streamer for all media including media stored on PC and from another wifi network when away from home.
it works great and is really simple
besides the actual droid version of this app, is there another comparable?
i do want a player able to handle all video types and a matching streamer..

For a decent DLNA server, check out TVersity (do a Google search).
BubbleUPnP from Play Store is a reasonable, free client.
Personally I just share a folder on my PC on my home network, then use ES file explorer to goto the folder and MX Player (which plays nearly everything) to stream to my Touchpad. That way I don't have to install anything on my PC.
You can also try Emit. Its pretty simple but it does use a lot of the remote PC's CPU.

I use a variety of methods .
For xbmc have a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1813089
The one I prefer is to mount my NAS directory onto the touchpad via "cifs manager" from the market and then I use Vplayer. No issues at all.

I do this with ES File Explorer, works great with the VLC nightly builds as well located here. If you've ever used VLC on a desktop it plays almost every format out there, and the mobile version does too. This is the real, on device version of VLC, not a streamer that relies on a desktop version of VLC to be running.

Install MX Player as per my original post and use that to play your video (just use ES File Explorer to select the video.)
When you select the file in ES Explorer you should get a pop up option to choose a player, like in the screen-shot below from my phone (lent my TP to my mum for a few weeks):

ok when you say "play from network" what do you mean exactly? are you talking about playing a video link from a website? or are you talking about from computer on another network, for example do you want to be able to access your videos on your home computer when you are away from home?
"Install MX Player as per my original post and use that to play your video (just use ES File Explorer to select the video.)"

playing movie files remotely
amkaos,
what you are trying to do requires 2 things, first for your movies to be accessible from outside your lan,
For this, there are a wide range of possibilities. You can use cloud storage, you can open ports on your router and gain access to a NAS device at home from outside, a VPN connection to your home machine, and few others I am sure.
The second thing you need is good connectivity, good download speed to your device and good upload speed from your home network if is where the files reside.
Once you have access to the files and good connectivity you should be able to open the files and play them on your device with most of the software that has been mentioned here.
I hope this helps.
idk how to get xbmc to stream from lan.
es player, mixed results of supporting formats..
couldnt get vlc player to work at all w/ lan
mx player pro wouldnt play atall from lan..
vplayer.. had place to type local ip.. but still wouldnt show the any of the shares on the pc..
would not play when selected from es file explorer..
xbmc ..
this looks very promising but i couldnt even to get it to show in the video choices in es file explorer.
i tried to use local lan ip address //192.168 etc..
smb://192.etc.. as shown in esfileexplorer..
beyond that i dont know how else to search..
i tried to use my actual ipaddy from whatsmyip.. no go there either
mixed results == not playing atall or wont stream, wants to copy entire file then play..
i am sure that part of the probs is that i dont really know how to properly search for the lan share..
vlc..wouldnt show up in esfileexplorer video choices ..
to stream, app wants me to install the player on pc.. im not willing to do that for now..so didnt try it..
