Help! I flashed Tenfar's CWM -0630-1029 and it seemed to complete ok. I then did a backup with it.
Following that I installed ATT 183_pudding... also completed successfully.
I found that my su binaries are out of date and it will not update, but instead it installed a zip update on my sd. Now when I fastboot my phone & enter recovery mode it soft bricks(I guess thats what its called).... Android icon with triangle & !...
Titanium backup no longer has root access, but my root explorer still works.
I am still on 2.2.2 and don't want to go to GB until I'm sure this is fixed.
What have I done wrong!!

why dont you want to go to GB? also tenfars new recovery is only for an atrix with an unlocked bootloader you MUST see the unlocked in the top right corner

lol your right left corner um flash back to stock and follow my guide it will help you get from stock to gb with new recovery and everything
OK.... Now the only file I have on my computer is Gingerblur 4.5.zip. Will that be considered stock and since the recovery doesn't work should I use RSD or fastboot to put it on my phone

no what you have to do is download rsd lite the new one for atrix and flash the sbf: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125944 from here.
steps:1. turn off phone hold down vol. down and power as u boot up until u see fastboot and go to rsd once that starts plug ur phone into the computer open rsd lite and flash the downloaded sbf once your done with that follow my guide
did you remove the install_recovery.sh filein /system/etc? If you do not delete that then after every reboot the recovery partition goes back to stock.

Yes, I deleted that. BTW I just now reflashed the CWM and it's working again. Titanium Backup/Superuser still not working yet. Busybox says that I do not have root.
Looks like you have to reroot. You can do preinstall method or since you're on 1.83 you can run gingerbreak...

Okay so im new to this and i have been working all day on trying to get my vibrant modded a little .. My earlier thread shows that i had some trouble and finally got it back to its factory settings .
Now I have upgraded to 2.2 and i rooted it using super one click rooting because I cannot root with an update.zip because I get a signature verification failure. But I realized i need to do this anyways to run a rom even using rom manager ..
So i tried to install 3e recovery installer which is suppose to override this but for some reason it fails to install. It says checking for root: and it fails.
Someone seemed to have the same problem in a different thread and said they deleted some bloatware with terminal emulator but i used termaninal backup (or something like that) to delete some bloatwares but this still did not fix the problem for me.
What is my problem? And what lag fix can i use for my vibrant when i get all this to work?
Fastest way to obtain root :
1. is to flash stock JFD rom (use AIO tools.
2. flash Clockwork recovery through Rom manager (get it from market)
3. Flash any rooted rom (with Voodoo lagfix) through CWM.
And most important thing, if you don't know what you are doing with your phone don't do anything.

i thought you needed root to flash recovery from rom manager...
anyways, my method of rooting is to use the recovery 3e to 2e batch (dont wanna call it an install cause it doesnt install really) and then flash a root update.zip from the 2e recovery you just flashed.
what may be happening to your 3e 2e thing is that you might of forgotten to enable usb debugging... you do this by going in the menu>applications>development>usb debugging on
make sure the phone is plugged in to the computer and debug is on and run 3e to 2e...
then get ahold of a root update.zip and rename it update.zip, put it on the root of your internal sd card (\mnt\sdcard\) and go into recovery (power phone off, hold vol up and down buttons and then hold power button at the same time until you see the vibrant boot screen. when you get into recovery, hit reinstall packages.
sorry for the wall of text; hope this helps.

You are right, I was rooting my device couple of months ago, I forgot that for CWM you have to obtain root first.
My memory is good but short
My vibrant is hardware locked and I've used the posted fix before, but it must not have stuck. I'm now on cm7 and when I reboot into recovery with rom manager the reinstall packages options is not there. I've tried to flash the update.zip file like a Rom, but it gives me an aborted message. How can I apply that fix without the reinstall package option?
y r u looking for reinstall the packages?...if that option is not there that means u have a working CWM?...sry didn't really understand what exactly are you trying to do..
In the thread for the hardware lock fix, the file is an update.zip to be placed an the card and opened by reinstall packages, but I don't have that option in recovery. I tried flashing off the card, but the install fails. It looks like its abd which I'm not familiar with. Thanks for you reply.
if you're on cm7, you already have CWM working, and renamig anything to update.zip to flash is a no-no for anything you're flashing.
But, withthat said, flashing the "fix" doesn't work on cm7 since the partitions are different and i doubt cm7 can see the promary bootloader and secondary bootloader partition.
You MUST get into dl and flash with odin.
Are you sure you have a hardware locked phone ?
If you can not get into recovery by holding ( power + vol up + vol down ) until boot screen appears the second time then release power only while still holding both vol buttons you are hardware locked .
If you are you will need to go back to JFD to flash the fix . You can download a terminal app since cm7 is rooted . Once you have the terminal app type
su
reboot download
You can now use Odin to flash back to JFD ,then flash the fix .
I would be really careful while doing this if you are hardware locked one mistake and you could end up with a brick . READ READ READ then READ again .

reboot download doesn't work on cm7 based roms.
Also, OP, make sure you haven't flashed GB bootloaders, as they change dl mode button combo.
Its locked,I've flashed the fix before and was running straight cm7, left via Odin and came back to trigger redux, which is great. I've had my vibrant since release, rooted and custom rom from about week two, all with the generous info on xda. I am going to try terminal emulator, I was using that first command line. Thanks.
Just to clarify, su reboot does not work with cm7? I just tried su reboot recovery and it worked.

well..make a backup of your android..then rename that .zip file to whatever u want then flash it like you would flash a rom..
Forgive my noobishness, but alot if this is still new to me.
My atrix is rooted and unlocked. In preparation for cm7 I decided to flash CWM and make a backup of my current stock rom.
I downloaded the rommanager app from the market and installed CWM successfully. I also used it to make a backup of the rom.
However, when I boot into recovery I get the android guy and exclamation mark. I cant do anything at this point and have to pull the battery and reboot.
What is wrong here?
try installing it again, and are you sure your phone is unlocked? does it says unlocked at the top left corner?
Yes, on reboot it say "unlocked". I installed it again from rom manager, and it told me I successfully flashed. I didnt believe at first since it only took a about 2 secs to complete, but i was able to boot into recovery. Thank for the help.. Im surprised that even worked to be honest.
Another question, lets supposed I wanted to completely remove CWM and install romracers recovery instead. How would I go about removing CWM?

I've had the same problem before. Basically, every time I restored a backup, CWM would crash. It would give me the same thing yours gave you: the Android with the Exclamation point. This could be fixed by reflashing CWM with ROM manager. If you want to install RomRacer's CWM, download the zip for it off of whatever source and out it on your internal storage. Then, from ROM manager, click on "Install ROM from SD card" or something. Choose RomRacer's zip and don't choose any of the wipe options. It should boot into recovery and flash RomRacer's recovery over the ROM manager one.
After installing custom ROMs, I no longer had this problem with the Android and the exclamation point.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Ok this is beginning to get a bit annoying. Basically ANY time I boot into recovery I get the android and exclamation point. If I go into rom manager and flash CWM again, I can reboot into recovery just fine. However, the next time I chose to go into recovery, I get the same problem android and exclamation point.
I decided to install romracers CWM. I used the fastboot method. I erased the recovery partition and flashed the image sucessfully. It rebooted and went into recovery. SAME freaking problem . Android and exclamtion point. I rebooted the phone and entered rom manager again. I attemted to flash CWM from the "FLASH from SD card" option. The phone boots into recovery. Guess what?? Same damned thing. Android and exclamation point.
one last effot, I reflash CWM recovery, then chose 'install from sd card" option and chose rom racers CWM. It boots into recovery, and claims it flashed RR's CWM. I boot into the phones OS and go back to rom manager. I notice that rom managers reports my version of CWM being the same as it ever was (The rom mgr recovery 4.1. something). I choose boot into recovery... and I know you know whats coming now. ANDROID AND!!!!!
Recovery is pointless if I have to relash CWM from rom manager everytime before I use it. If the sh*t ever hits the proverbial fan and I cant boot into the OS I am screwed.
Has anyone ever had or heard of this problem. i would like to have a recovery, that works every single time I need it.
Fastboot flash romracers recovery. That should solve your problem. And leave it alone.

Thanks for the quick reply. However,I did that already.
Code:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

well I redownloaded Romracers CWM. This time a different file. The red version.
I uninstalled Rommgr app just because. I reboot into fastboot
erase recovery partition.
Flash the recovery image to the recovery partition
reboot and immediately boot back into recovery (without going into the phones OS).
I am greeted with the UI of RR's CWM.
I reboot my phone normally and go back into the phones OS. to test to make sure everything is good...
I reboot into recovery.... and I get android and exclamation point.
I am thoroughly confused and quite frustrated at this point.
Its like once I go into the OS of the phone I cannot sucessfully boot back into recovery.
WTF?!
For clarity's sake I'm on OTA 2.3.4 and am rooted and unlocked

I'm running IML74K.UCLd3, kernel 3.0.8 and android version 4.0.3.
For some reason, that ROM flashes fine. When I try to flash att_note_root.tar in Odin to get root, it all seems to go fine, then I can't boot the phone at all. It took a few tries to get back into download mode. The only thing I could do to boot the phone up was to flash the ROM again. So I still don't have root.
How can I:
Get root
Reinstall my apps (I have a Titanium backup)
Will installing old apps mess the new ROM up?
Do I need a new kernel?
I've been told to flash CWM to get root, but I don't know which version to flash.
HELP!!

Yup...did follow the instructions. What I could NOT do was to reboot into recovery mode to finish the job. Held down vol up/down and power till the screen went black, the released vol up and power. All it did was put me in the yellow triangle screen with the options of vol down to reboot or vol up to download. No way to access recovery mode.
You let go of the wrong button...
All three buttons till you feel a vibrate..Then let off the POWER BUTTON
If my bootloader is unlocked and cwm installed can i still run the ota update? Im on the stock rom just rooted
We are in the same boat -_-
I'm currently having the same problem
even when I tried to install the update through CWM it doesn't update!
It's not 1.29.. it's just a fix for the dual mics.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Theres a thread in general about it. Correct...not 1.29. One confirmed fix is capacitive button fix. I believe you need to be on stock recovery to install it.
So would anyone recommend installing the new update 4.2.2 for the internatinal version instead of trying to install this update for my T-Mobile HTC One? Or the question is it even possible?
Mine is rooted and unlocked bootloader by using a toolkit.
Also in the 4.2.2 update is the sensitivity for back and home button better?

Use this link provided by c4b4l3 to download stock recovery
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...k-recovery.img
1. I created a folder C: (Named it Android)
2. Rest your HTC One into Bootloader Mode
3. Highlight fastboot then press power button (you should see fastboot usb)
4. Open up Command Prompt
5. Type cd c:\Android
6. Type fastboot flash recovery htc1-stock-recovery.img
7. Let it go thru and rest your phone you should be prompted to install update if not wait for it to come back when it does go thru the motions of the installation.
(When mine went thru the installation process I had to force rest it a couple of time to make it go thru but it works like a charm now and I flashed back to TWRP)
Make sure you have all HTC Drivers installed
And believe me it works I have a Mac with VMware Fusion w/ Windows XP running and I have never had any problems!

I was unlocked, running CWM and rooted. I'm trying what everyone is suggesting but it's just not working. I flashed the stock recovery, rebooted into OS, instructed to flash update, it reboots into stock recovery, starts flashing and hangs about 1/4 of the way through....
I eventually (30+ mins) restart by holding down power. It boots back into recovery, starts to flash the update again but this time has a red triangle at the 1/4 mark.
I reboot a second time and I'm back into the OS w/o the update.
