He may have rooted other devices but I don't believe he has full perm root yet for the evo 3d.

It seems counter-intuitive, but, I swear that my E4G got better battery life when overclocked. Sure, it wasn't on the performance governer to do that...but I've beared it out many times.
Race to wait man...the sooner a CPU is finished with something the sooner it can get to idle.
edit: the more I think about it I think it's only fair to admit that I only compared stock kernel to havs/UV kernels when oc'd....

Yes the faster it gets to idle... but theres also diminishing returns. The faster you push the processor the more energy it needs to reach that speed.
(Not saying your wrong, never really tried it)

How about undervolting while overclocking?

1136-1152mHz was perfect....but if I tried 1190 it would drain far faster than usual. most of it burnt up as heat, I felt it. But 1136-1152 was perfect. I tried underclocking for battery gains...it still ran perfectly usable as low as 528 or 548 or whatever it was....but I never got the kind of gains I thought I would, in fact, I never noticed considerable gains in battery life, even that low for a while....
As we all know for some peculiar reason not all smartphones are the same, even of the same make model batch, etc etc etc....so YMMV, a lot, but, OC'd to 1152 running CM7, smart ass governor, (HAV/uv kernel) (with the screen-on lowest freq being whatever was the first above 245...345?) I got far better battery life than stock...once again, not fair compared to mere stock, but, even underclocked I didn't see noticeable returns....

EDIT: Found him on ABC. Checking for the video.
EDIT: So I watched the entire show from last night, and did not see this. You were watching the episode from last night, or another day? Last night's episode had a bunch of promotion for the Cowboys & Aliens movie coming out tomorrow night.
Apologies to all, it was the Fallon show. Guess the old guy (me) had a senior moment and mixed up the names.

Guess its a Late Night talk show host thing... I saw Craig Ferguson at The Grove a couple weeks ago and he was talkiing on an Evo 3D. Nice guy... Ive seen a couple live tapings for his show.
I don't need 1.8ghz. Mine runs 1.5ghz with setcpu throttling the phone when it needs to. Also, I undervolted my CPU when I overclocked to 1.5ghz, so the battery drain isn't a problem.

well, not really.. you wont really kill the battery faster.. it depends on how you use the phone.... i am waiting till we can root the phone to mess with it, i havent even done the temp root..
but with the right kernel you can OC and undervolt.. giving you great battery life and you can tone it down when you dont need the extra boost.. most of the time i was running conservative with my OG Evo
and heat... this phone just like any other smart phone will get hot, people just need to pay attention to that and everything is golden.

Overheating issues?

Anybody feel their amaze getting really really warm, almost hot? Kinda makes me not wanna use my phone a lot just because the heat might mess it up.
This happens around 15 mins of usage.
I haven't had that issue even under heavy use like games, videos, and web.
It may be an app or apps constantly running. Do you check your task manager often? U may have to kill some apps. Also is it charging when you use the phone? I know it gets hot quickly that way.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
Really depends on what's running. When you first initialize the phone it's going to get hot as it syncs and updates everything but that should pass. If you have location enabled and use the gps, it will get hot, if you use maps and the screen is on, it will get hot...just check it for whats running and delete whats unnecessary. Of course I'm waiting for the root to really delete the crapware.
My amaze has been overheating it feel's like it's on fire randomly sometimes , even when im not on apps .
Mine gets really hot too.. not quite but almost too hot to touch. It's not even plugged in when it happens and its just from playing music it charging.. no heavy usage. Hopefully it'll disappear once we get some roms with no bloatware!

Yeah, both phones are great. Its just with finding the right fit for you. I chose GS2 because I figured we would have a larger dev community, its lighter because of its plastic design and Super Amoled+. The downside of this phone is its resolution, but I don't notice it that much for it to be a big con. I heard some people actually rather the hefty-ness of the Amaze. I'm not gonna lie I love the design quality of it. HTC is always known for gorgeous designs.

you also have to remember 2 things though.... 1) the unibody designs always conduct the heat to the outside of the phone, although its operating at the same temp of most phones, the reason you notice it with the newer htc models is cause you can actually feel the heat cause of the unibody... 2) the sammys are all plastic, which doesnt conduct heat too well, so although its getting hot inside, you dont feel it. they both prob run at close if not the same temps, but you can just notice it more on the htc... thats all.

Coming from EVO 4g

Hello everyone. Loved my EVO 4g but it broke and Asurion sent me a brand new 3d. Feel sad leaving the OG EVO but glad to have a new phone. The phone came with hboot 1.30 and it keeps trying to get me to take an ota update but I decline because I'm not sure about what can and can't be rooted. Gonna root tonight so any advice or ROM suggestions? Any sense 3.5 roms that have working 3d? Thanks

Theres not a phone made that can watch a 2 hour movie on 2% drop. I wish people would stop with the tall tales. Ii would consider 15 hours heavy/mod use very good. I think evo owners are just spoiled.

Viper Rom
I'd highly suggest trying out Viper Rom for HTC EVO 3D. I've been this since RC 1.2 and they just released Redline V2. Pretty sweet. Pretty good battery life, custom kernels will let you overclock/underclock as well as undervolt on this rom. The devs are super responsive and put alot of hard work into this rom. Check it out! (There are a ton of features in the latest builds, but it's best to check out yourself to see which features interest you most)

Bootloader unlock :(

We apologize for the issues you have experienced with the bootloader unlock for your HTC Evo 3D. HTC is aware that some individuals have been having difficulty with the unlock process and is current investigating the issue. At this time, we do not have an estimated time for a resolution.

The reason they made things like that to root was to keep the folks who don't know enough about it from doing it... They get tired of warranty claims when someone bricks a phone because the user had no idea what they are doing.. Same goes for people who overclock and push it too high and burn the cpu up...
Too keep things like that from happening.

That seems like a whole lot of hassle just to prevent a small fraction of it's user base from fully utilizing their phones.
I'm confident that we only take up a small portions of claims in their warranty department. Maybe they should put more effort into making a phone that keeps up with the competition and lasts.

Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
Android doesn't have lag. It suffers from low framerate at times, but latency is not the issue.
That said, the only place I ever see low framerate is when I have a huge widget list to scroll through.

Okay, just gave 1.1 a shot. Apps are in fact loading up faster when pressed but that's the only thing I notice so far. Can't have a final say on anything else because it's so hard to tell on a Quad Core device with Jelly Bean. But thanks for letting us know of this.
Haven't tried it myself but....
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/entropy-seed-generator-not-all-its-hacked-up-to-be/
There are valid concerns about lag and how the Android OS handles them, and there is discussion currently ongoing within the Android Code about this, but this fix does not address those issues and instead gives performance gains through boosting CPU speed. The developer himself stated that this could in effect reduce battery life, since the hack is waking the CPU every second.

I grabbed this a few days ago when you mentioned it on CTO (thanks buddy). I notice apps opening noticably faster when it's running. I have it set to "start automatically on boot" but any time I "remove all" from a home button long press, which I do after I've been on my phone for a while, the app stops running and I forget to restart it. I wish it would persist that.

Android doesn't have lag. It suffers from low framerate at times, but latency is not the issue.
That said, the only place I ever see low framerate is when I have a huge widget list to scroll through.

I never had issues with my dna.
Anyway I tried Seeder and all I can say is I don't see a bit of difference.

Haha, I'm just giving you a hard time.
I'm with you, I don't see a difference either.

My theory is that people are launching apps before and then enabling it and testing those apps. Thing is, they are all loaded and load instantly.
I rebooted between my tests. :

I gave it a try but I feel the Note 2 is so freaking fast already that it wasn't necessary, with that said, there are definitely many other phones that I've owned where I noticed slowness immediately after rooting, so for those phones I wish I had this.

Not bad for a placebo app
I tried explaining the the thread that Steve Kondik isn't endorsing the app like they think he is. He performed his own tests, with his own compiled code and saw some inexplicable results.
Seeder didn't do anything for him on any device he has.
A moderator deleted it though, conveniently. They of course left behind the part where CM is allegedly endorsing it though.
