[Q] data wipe/factory reset - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I received my second Atrix two days ago, unlocked the BL intalled a ROM blah blah, you all know the drill. Im a long time Android user but this Atrix is the first device I have ever seen that I cannot actually wipe it from recovery. Before installing a ROM I always wipe data, cache and dalvik but every time I boot its all the same. The new ROM installed, yes, but my apps, email, text etc are all still there, its not actually being wiped, why is this not working correctly?

It works with tenfars CWM recovery NOT the Rom Manager recovery version. That just started supporting the Atrix the past week and one of the confirmed issues is that it doesn't actually wipe.

That is really good to know, I'm not a big Rom manager fan anyway, never have been, I thought id try it out this time and apparently I'm still better off without it. Is there anyway to "remove" the Rom manager version once it has actually been installed?

[Q] Can't answer calls [SOLVED]

I recently flashed alien 4 with the theme and all was good for a few hours but then i suddenly couldnt answer calls. when i get a call the phone vibrates nonstop without a ringtone but i cant answer or decline it and com.android.phone eventually force closes.
i reflashed the rom with no luck, fixed permissions flashed the old radio.
I have now flashed the cwm backup of my stock unlocked rom and the problem still persists.
pls help
ps I have an unlocked att atrix
anyone? ... Ive had to resort to switching to my old bb, feel like I jumped back a generation techwise
Do a full fastboot wipe. People often flash things without doing a proper wipe then are confused why things are broken. This means /system, /data, /boot, /cache, /preinstall, /webtop. All wiped. Then go into cwm and for good measure do a factory reset and wipe dalvik. Then flash alien, reboot, let it build system files, then reboot and flash the theme . Bam. Done.

did another wipe according to the above instructions and seems to be working for now. Thanks

[Q] I need assistance- Anyone with the wifi's?

Hello,
I was using a CM7 ROM on my atrix, and I took the proper steps to install Nottach's ROM (Meaning, cache, data, system were wiped). I was happy with Nottach's ROM, and with Blur (gasp). But, I wanted to try out CM9. I flashed it, and camera didn't work, so I tried AOKP. Everything worked, except for a little bit of beta instability. I made a few system changes (ICS only- sleep policy, data connectivity, simple stuff), and defaulted to the internal SD card. I decided I didn't like ICS like I though I would, so I wiped and restored my backup. now, I'm stuck with non-working wifi and bluetooth. Also, the phone is rebooting at every turn. Hardly usable. Any suggestions? I have compeltely wiped the internal and external card, system, dalvik, cache, data, etc. I also tried the 2.3.4 fruitcake CWM .zip. no better. My phone went out of warrenty last week, literally 5 days ago. motorola is no help, and neither is AT&T because I am not a contract customer- I'm using it on straight talk.

If you have a look at Nottachtrix thread. A lot of people are having problem with wifi because of the latest faux kernel. Try doing a fastboot erase of everything including boot and then installing the fruit cake.
You can have a quick look at how to fast boot erase in the general section. Try search functionality.

I would also suggest doing a full fastboot wipe and installing the CM7 RC1 nightly that way you can escape blur but that just me lol for sure a full fast boot wipe or from your current frootcake maybe trying flashing a diffrent kernel

Fresh Rom 5.0

Hello everyone, just wanted some help to clarify something.
For the fresh Rom released by flipz in the development section, it states that "This update does not require a data wipe if you are on a stock-ish Sprint/Sense rom". Can I flash right over my rooted EVO LTE with stock everything? All I did was unlock, TWRP and root and that's how my phone is at the moment.
Thanks in advance for the help!

I'm of the opinion that you wipe data/cache/davlik every single time you flash a new ROM.
Here's my take on it: Dev said you can flash it over stock without a data wipe. It's a fairly basic rom for the moment. When you wipe data everything is lost. What's the harm is flashing without a wipe? Something may start acting wonky and the solution for that is typically a data wipe and reflash. So, what have you lost at that point? Nothing if you understand that most rom flashes include a data wipe.
So, I say go for it without wiping data.* Wiping now only robs you of an opportunity to keep your data intact.
*I only advocate not wiping in this particular instance, since the dev said it would be ok. In all other scenarios, I whole-heartedly recommend wiping completely.
I had to return my original lte because of a bricked nfc/wallet issue.
Prior to returning, I backed up all user apps/data using TB's batch function, saved my texts and contacts.
Upon getting the replacement phone, imported contacts, manually restored all the apps/data with the launcher and widget locker apps being the last ones. Finally restored the texts. All I had left to do was a few tweaks under settings and reconnect wifi. Took all of about 20-30 minutes to do everything.

Problem with copy/paste

For some reason, anytime I attempt to copy/cut whatever app im in crashes. When I long press to copy, I never get the context to complete the action. This only started happening after rooting my phone yesterday Anything I can do to fix this?
via Galaxy S III
Well, was unable to figure out the problem so this is what I ended up doing:
First of all, I rooted via mrRobinsons method and installed cwm as he instructed as well. I'm running CWM 5.5.0.4 IIRC
I did a nandroid and then did a factory reset, wiped cache, wiped dalvik cache and then I flashed Jirv311's stock/rooted/deodexed AT&T rom.
After rebooting I went into the browser to confirm it was working right, and it was. So I rebooted into recovery and went to advanced restore and restored data. After rebooting I went into the browser to confirm it was still working...it wasn't So I flashed the rom from above again, tested it, working right. This time I just installed the apps I wanted one by one from the market via my pc. After they all installed I checked to make sure it was working right, it was, and it's been working right ever since.

[Q] Wifi + Custom Rom problem

Hi!
I'm having some troubles with my DX since one week, tried a lot of manipulation and nothing is working... So I am asking you if you have any idea?
The first problem I had was the wifi that didn't "lock", it switched itself all the time from ON to OFF and opposite. The rom installed was ELEGANCIA and the recovery was TWRP. I thought it was a problem with the Rom. To try solving the problem, and because I'm curious, I installed Sense Revolution R5 and with this came my second problem...
It couldn't boot anymore, I think I did it right, not the first time I do that but we never know. And since then I'm unable to install custom Roms. The only thing that works fine is installing stock recovery, re-locking the phone and reverting back to stock using RUU, doing that the phone boots normally as when he got out of the box. But with custom Roms the phone doesn't want to boot... Where could this problem come from?
And for the wifi there is no change, it is still giving me the same bug... or sometimes I have the "activation" message without anything happening or an "error" message...
I tried disassembling the phone, as it was really dusty in it, I thought it was the problem but nope...
Thanks (sorry for my english mistakes)
Some news: unlocking, rooting and flashing custom recovery work fine.
But I tried flashing a custom kernel, and again it doesn't want to boot...
Nobody has any idea of what else I could attempt?
perhaps you aren't flashing the boot.img first?
thanks for your interest! i've just tried that once more, but nothing changes...
I have noticed though that it won't boot every time I do a system wipe. Wiping cache gives no problem, haven't tried wiping Dalvik Cache yet, and "Factory Reset" gives me a "Failed" message.
(All this using TWRP, who once worked perfectly on my phone)
EDIT: I've juste tried wiping Dalvik Cache and it doesn't give any problem... So maybe is the problem coming from the wiping of the system?
No suggestion? still having those problems... :/
