I'm trying to play music and run Google Maps Navigation simultaneously. On the Evo 4G, I could do this no problem. On this phone now everytime it is supposed to speak directions, it mutes music, but does not say the direction - it is either muted or extremely low volume. I should also mention I am using a custom voice - SVOX Classic.
Anyone else experience this or find a fix?
Thanks!

Did you turn the nab volume all the way up?
Edit: Just tried it and it works fine for me.

Yeah the navigation volume is on full. I even tried turning up the volume in the SVOX app.
Just curious are you using a custom voice or the built in?
SOunds like you answered your on question, its the svox and not the 3do. Uninstall and you should be fine.

Obviously I am trying to get the two to work together. I'm sure I'm not the only one who uses a custom voice.
Still looking for other people's experiences with SVOX Google Maps, and Music

Then you should change your title to svox and music don't work together because there are no problems with Google Navigation and music.

Just because you haven't had the problem or even many users haven't had the problem does not mean the issue doesn't exist. For example: on EVO 4G I used Google Navigation with SVOX without a single problem. I will try with the default PICO TTS to confirm whether or not it is specific to SVOX next time I have a chance.
I have a strong feeling it is related to the stock software. I have also noticed poor aac audio quality in Xiialive using the stock system codec but as soon as I switch to Xiialive internal engine, it works perfectly. This leads me to believe there is some kind of issue with the audio codecs in stock Rom.
Not a monster of a deal but would be cool to resolve.
I have just confirmed the problem is not exclusive to SVOX. I am experiencing the same result with the standard tts. I am also using it over Bluetooth. All of this worked perfect on OG Evo.
Anyone with actual ideas and not just complaints about my thread?
This is a known issue with gingerbread and the sat nav application. I'm on my phone now, but if you do a search you will find several bugs open with Google. Unfortunately I don't think there is a fix yet. even happens on under gb and cm7 phones including the updated 4g.
I'm having the same issue with with stock maps, PowerAmp and latest MikG through Bluetooth or 3.5mm Jack. Navigation works fine until player is started.
/edit
Whoops just noticed this ie the 3D forum... I'm running the 4G

Berardi, please see this thread I just started. It looks like it's a bug.
Anyway to make this more known? Maybe blast @google @androiddev @googlemobile with tweets or message them on facebook?
This is a pretty serious issue IMO. I can't believe more people don't complain bout this.

I tried with GrooveIP but no luck.
No luck with Csipsimple or Sipdroid. I figured one of these would be the first to get mic/headphone support.
I have tried Skype but when the person who im calling answersthe call it force closes, havent tried any other app.

the only thing the mic can be used for right now is the built in nook functions and voice search. i don't think we will be able to use the mic for anything else until we can get a custom rom on it
I do all the time, download groove ip from the market, it links to your google voice account

I agree with you, though i will give obion a try too, i already have an android smartphone for voip calls but it would be awesome if we could have it in the nook, in fact is one of the reasons i bought the NT and not the NC. It is definitely a must have feature, at list for me .

No, it's surely can be used in any app. Because it's working in Hi-Q MP3 Rec (Lite), for instance. BTW, the sound quality is very good.

I can confirm that as well, I downloaded "Voice Recorder" from the market to record notes, and it works. What gives? if some random app can get access to the microphone, why can't the VoIP apps do it?
I'm trying to figure out how to make a call somehow as well.
Has there been anything new on this front yet - just bought and rooted a NT and would love to make calls with it
I used skype on mine and it worked well.
The closest I have gotten is with Skype or grooveip.
Skype FCs when the party being called answers. Each version I've tried has acted a little differently so I am still hopeful that an update will work some day. With the proliferation of tablets I know they are working on it though not necessarily for the NT.
Everything about grooveip seems to work but the microphone doesn't seem to be recognized and the speaker does not work. The speaker plays the ringing sound while trying to connect (and the volume is adjustable) but upon answer it does not play and the volume function is Xed out just as it would be when you are muted at the lowest setting. Volume buttons do not respond. Other than that there is definitely a telephony link between the NT and the phone being called. This is version 1.1.8 I'm trying.

Would you mind sharing? I am quite interested in getting Skype to work. No success as yet.
Here's a basic (possibly stupid) question. Is the NT headset jack a mic/earphone jack or just a headset jack? I couldn't tell from any of the teardowns.
im not sure but it could be a lib/s missing or existing one that need to be modified, ill try to look into it ask some devs i know and report back
I downloaded textplus and it is SO ClOSE to working! I can use it to sms and I can receive calls and make calls. The person on the other end can hear me BUT I cent hear them!
Also there is twin thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363215&page=10
and one interesting comment
I also have success with iPhone mic + talk-a-play. I note /etc/astound.conf shows both mic channels ON. Could this be part of the problem? Linux Alsa doesn't work with Skype unless you turn one channel off because the 2 channels cancel each other out. Someone who really knows Alsa needs to have a good look at this file. I don't really understand it, but it definitely gives a description for a mic.

I'm playing with asound.conf now, and it seems to be the right place to look. I managed to break HI-Q recorder from working, make 'fring test call' be heard (not me), and even make device stuck from full boot (removing asound.conf from adb shell saved me) =)
Hi guys,
I'm new to the Android platform, I have a noobish question:
I use a couple of music/video streaming 3rd party apps while driving, anyone know if it's possible to have the Google Navigation mute the audio of the streaming app when it needs to give voice directions, and then unmute when the voice directions are done?
Right now, if I have both Navigation and audio streaming going at the same time, the Navigation directions are barely audible over the music that is playing.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
My T-Bolt already does this. I'm just using Sense 2.1 over GB. I was using Pandora and it works great. I just tried it. Sorry if you're having a problem. It could be poor coding of the program but I think it strange that your phone would do that. So I think it's weird that your phone doesn't do this. You'd have to get the attention of a dev probably and they are going to want more information like what specific apps you are using. Is it all 3rd party apps or just one in particular. I'm willing to see if i can duplicate your results if you let me know what 3rd party app it is and I don't have to pay anything to help you fix your problem. Cause..well...I'm cheap.
there has got to be a dev here that can make a separate navigation volume . im sick of not being able to hear my nav while playing music . when nav voice comes on its so low compared to the volume i listen to my music at . HELP! even if its not a separate volume may some one could break into the app and boost the volume in the app about 30 %
Hmmm sound interesting but upload or link me to the app

Its the maps app . You should have it on your phone .
If you wanted integrated navigation volume it would have to be hard coded into the OS. Nav volume is based on media volume, so you can't really boost it in the OS. It would require edits to a majority of the framework files and a custom systemui
well then my question is ... can it be done ? i know im not the only one with this problem. its all over the internet with no fix that i can find . im sure people would appreciate it if a modded app was available .there used to be a separate volume for this but google removed it for some reason ?

Doubtful. If it was done, it couldn't be done for Sense roms and would take months to implement into AOSP. You'd have to convince CM or someone that it's a major issue. Too much work for 1-2 people. Try using an aftermarket app like Volume+?
It can depends on how you are listening to music. If you listen to music from your phone threw the auxiliary port in the car then it will play threw the car speakers and work like you want it to. It maybe even work threw Bluetooth if your car lets you listen to music/media thew Bluetooth then you might be able to listen to the radio while having nav on and connected to Bluetooth and have it played back on the car speakers. When I need to use the nav on mine I just connect threw the auxiliary and listen to music from my phone and let the nav play threw the speakers.

yes i have a 2011 ford taurus and connect via bluetooth it works but while listening to music and using nav ,the nav is much lower than the music . and if i turn up the volume then the music is to loud . it just sucks google took out nav volume . theres got to be a way to break into the nav app and change the output volume . but im no developer so i may be wrong . maybe even something like this http://www.droidforums.net/forum/te...ions/85987-facinate-g-nav-volume-too-low.html
Try doing it thew the auxiliary that works great for me it works on stock nav and sygic.

Personally, for many reasons, I have a strong preference for using a separate device for my GPS. I use an old Garmin nuvi 750.
Without the Garmin, I would be running maps, trapster, and keeping my phone on the dashboard for a good GPS signal. And on top of that, I might receive a phone call.
I prefer using my GPS as a GPS and speed camera warning device. Then my smart phone can be a phone, email, messaging device.

Navigation is for people who don't have a GPS, or don't have it with them. Not meant to be a full fledged GPS. (Even though it is pretty close)
I noticed this same problem about a month or so ago. They changed Maps so that it had the same volume as general media and assumed that all other apps would work perfectly with it. Like you said its all over the internet, or a decent section of the internet. Based on the amount of complaints I assume eventually things will improve over time with updates. Yet with the way they reprogrammed it, there is no longer a separate "navigation volume" option in settings. So changing it would be like programming an entirely new app. I'm with you though. I can't hear my nav at the same appropriate volume of music.
Anyone else experiencing a sudden increase and sudden decrease in volume while playing music through google play? It's happened when it's hooked up to my IBolt dock as well as through bluetooth speakers. I have no clue what may be causing it, whether it's drivers on the phone itself or something screwy with Google Play music service.
I'm having the same exact issue. I'm not sure if it's Google play music or the phone causing the problem

I have the same issue too. Google Music, offline/cached songs, and I use a Klipsch S4i. I have one more day before the 14 day return policy is up. So I am guessing this is a wide known issue. I saw a review for Google Music about a S4 volume bug.
I have to assume it's a google music issue then that will be fixed. If it was a phone issue it'd happen on all music being played which I don't think it has for me off hand.

Has anyone tried turning off Adapt Sound for Music and see if that fixes the problem?
I never set up Adapt Sound therefore it's not turned on. I confirmed in the music app that Adapt Music was off, unless there is a simliar setting in Google Music I'm not aware of?

Yeah, I tried Google Music with Adapt Sound on and off, the problem is still there.
Equalizer? As I was typing this, I went into the equalizer and the volume instantly went back down to the "original" level. Ill tinker with it. I currently have it set to: Rock, Bass boost ~60%, and 3D effect Off. Ill set the equalizer to off and se what happens.
I use Apollo 1.1 and never had that issue with my music or any other sound.
Do you stream with Google Music? If yes, do you stream while connected to bluetooth and/or a dock?
So I think the equalizer is to blame. I had it off all day and there was no strange volume fluctuation.
interesting. I'll have to give that a shot as I do have mine on.

Thanks for the heads up. This has been driving me up a wall since launch.
There is a new Google Music update. Im testing it out with equalizer enabled. Ill report my results.
Results: Bug still there.
Ever since the KitKat update my navigation voice cannot be heard while music is playing.
Previously, Maps would pause my music and the voice would speak at full volume (or whatever volume was set).
Now, Maps does not pause the music, but instead turns it down, and the navigation voice is set to half volume. No matter how many times I turn it up, each new navigation command is once again reset to half volume, and I cannot hear it over the music that continues to play.
Is anybody else experiencing this? I've searched around a bit but all the threads on it I see are for older updates on other devices.
Is nobody else experiencing this? I've experienced it on two different HTC handsets after the KitKat update, so I'm assuming it's not limited to me, but I suppose you never know.
im not. stock unrooted on sprint. 4.4 update. use BT a lot in the car and the voice prompts stop the music player (poweramp) with no issues. volume is crisp and clear as its always been.

Thanks for that. I use Spotify for my streaming, so perhaps the issue is with Spotify. I'll download some music to the phone and try the stock music player to see.
just to clarify, poweramp is not the stock player. its 3rd party. i mainly use poweramp because it crossfades the music. :good:

Yeah I know. But my assumption was that it was related to Spotify specifically (which is what I use 99% of the time) and that if I tried the stock music player it would work fine.
I tested it last night, actually not with the stock music player, but instead with TuneIn Radio Pro. It worked perfectly, so I now know the issue is with a recent Spotify update.
