I was using Odin to flash the stock froyo Tom back onto my phone as cm7 was not working properly. Everything worked fine until the reboot sequence and the phone shut down. Now I have totally unresponsive phone. Any suggestiins.
You wanna get into dl mode
Try the button combos (vol up and down, plug in usb or just hold up vol and power button)
then try taking batt out, plugging in, holding vol buttonz and putting batt in.
If neither of those do the trick, a jig will be your only option
If that doesnt work, youll need to jtag... contact connexion2005, he charge like 50 bux i think for an unbrick
Sent from a cell tower to the XDA server to you.
Have you tried a hard reset btw? Just hold the power button for like 10 seconds

1. Start Odin
2. Plug USB cable into pc
3. Power off the Phone.
3. Pull the Battery.
5. Plug USB cable into Phone.
6. Press and Hold: Volume UP + Volume DOWN + Power, all at the same time.
7. Re-insert the battery.
8. The phone will power now, when the screen starts a cycle of going to a BLACK screen, release ONLY the POWER button.
9. When you see the download icon release the volume buttons,
10. Odin back to stock by putting the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
Or try that same method without holding the power button, just the volume rocker (up and down) when plugging into usb that works for some ppl
power off phone
pull out battery
GRAB THIS STUFF : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
make sure u put the proper tar file in pit and the .pda file in pda in there proper places on odin and ur set to go.
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers
so you don't even get the notorius..... "phone-pc" image? If you get that, than I'm sure a jig would help you. you can order one or build it yourself. cost me a buck, an old car charger, and some scotch tape. I'm actually considering wearing it from a chain around my neck....

Here is a couple of methods to get into download mode.
Once you get to download mode, follow the directions later in my post...
First Method
1) Pull the battery, sim card, and sd card.
2) Reinsert battery but do not press any buttons.
3) Plug into usb that is connected to your computer. If something shows up on the screen (charging logo) then you should be golden.
4) Hold the vol up, vol down, and power until the screen comes on, immediately release the power button but not the other two. You should be in dl mode.
Second Method
1) Another method that seems to work for some people is to pull the battery, sim, sd card.
2) Reinsert battery and hold both volume buttons but do not press power button.
3) Then plug in usb. The phone should boot into download.
Third Method
1) You will need the samsung ADB drivers installed for your phone and ADB. Samsung Drivers for 32 bit Windows: http:// files.androidspin.com/downl...SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_ Mobile_Phones_x86.exe
or here: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/ MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
Samsung Drivers for 64 bit Windows: http:// files.androidspin.com/downl...ng/vibrant/& file=usb_drivers_GalaxyS_x64.zip
or here: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/ MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
2) Remove sim card and sd-card. Remove the battery.
3) Hold buttons vol up, vol down, and power.
4) While holding down those 3 buttons put the battery back in and keep holding all 3 buttons until the vibrant disappears and reappears. Once it reappears, release all 3 buttons.
5) Now connect your phone to your pc via USB cable.
6) Open a cmd prompt and navigate to the folder with ADB and type "ADB REBOOT DOWNLOAD" caps are not necessary.
7) Your phone will reboot into the download mode.
Once in download mode
Download the files in the linked thread and follow the directions there or the ones below.
Files Needed Available Here (pit and pda): http:/ /forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php? t=734475
Odin v1.7 Available Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821625
1) Open Odin and verify that one of the Com ports shows a device connected. If it doesn't try using a different usb port.
2) Load the .pit and pda files. It should be pretty obvious how to do that once you are in Odin.
3) Make sure that the option to partition is unchecked. The other two options should be checked.
4) Hit start and wait.
5) Your phone will restart when Odin is done and you will be good to go.
Also, you might have to build the usb jig. It is guaranteed to get you into download mode. Here is a link to that thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ showthread.php?t=819551
Also, if you would like I can use remote log in to your computer and do it for you. Send me a pm or email: [email protected]

Hey, I am from India. My Vibrant got Hard Bricked while flashing a Custom ROM. I sent my Phone for Repair to Texas, and now it is back at my friends place in Washington D.C.
Strangely, he said to me that when I ordered the phone through him about 3 months back, he said, that the Download Mode and Recovery Mode both worked on the Phone, and when the phone came to India and after using it for 2 weeks, I noticed that only the Download Mode worked and not the Recovery Mode at all.
Is it possible that any application had disabled the Recovery Mode during that period ?
Now, he says that after Repair, the Recovery Mode works on the phone and not the Download Mode. I have mailed him all possible combinations to make the Download Mode worked and are listed below in detail.
Are there any other Combinations than the ones mentioned below and any other suggestion than making a Jig and through ADB to get into the Download Mode?
Method 1:
Turn off the Phone.
Remove the Battery.
Remove the SIM Card.
Remove the SD Card.
Wait for 15 seconds.
Put only the Battery back in.
-Plug the Phone into the Computer with the USB Cable.
-Press and Hold the Volume Up and the Volumed Down Buttons simultaneously.
-Now Press the Power Button and once you get the Yellow Digger Download Icon let go of it.
-Unplug the USB Cable now from the Phone.
Method 2 :
Turn off the Phone.
Remove the Battery.
Remove the SIM Card.
Remove the SD Card.
Wait for 15 seconds.
Put only the Battery back in.
-Press the Volume Up Button and the Home Icon on the Touchpad simultaneously.
-Now Press the Power Button and once you get the Yellow Digger Download Icon let go of it.
(Also try using the Volume Down Button in this method if the Volume Up Button doesn't work.)
Method 3 :
Turn off the Phone.
Remove the Battery.
Remove the SIM Card.
Remove the SD Card.
Wait for 15 seconds.
Put only the Battery back in.
-Connect the USB Cable to the Phone and also the Computer.
-Wait till battery indicator is visible, and you can see the current charge in green.
-Press and Hold Volume Up and Volume Down Button.
-Press Power Button until the screen goes black, then let go of Power only.
-You should now see the Yellow Digger Download Icon and let go of all buttons.
-Unplug the USB Cable from the Phone now.
Method 4 :
Turn off the Phone.
Remove the Battery.
Remove the SIM Card.
Remove the SD Card.
Wait for 15 seconds.
Put only the Battery back in.
-Connect the USB Cable to the Computer only.
-Click and Open the "Odin.exe" that is attached to this mail and keep it running.
-Now Press and Hold the Volume Up and the Volume Down Buttons simultaneously.
-Now Plug in the USB Cable into your Phone.
-You should now see the Yellow Digger Download Icon and let go of all the buttons.
-Unplug the USB Cable from the Phone now.
(No need of pressing the Power Button here, but try it if this method doesn't work without it.)
Method 5 :
Turn off the Phone.
Remove the Battery.
Remove the SIM Card.
Remove the SD Card.
Wait for 15 seconds.
-Donot put the Battery back in.
-Plug the USB Cable into the Phone and Computer.
-Now Press and Hold the Volume Up and Volume Down Button simultaneously.
-Now while holding these Buttons, Put the Battery back in.
-You should now see the Yellow Digger Download Icon and let go of all the buttons.
-Unplug the USB Cable from the Phone now.

Thanks for the quick reply.
But the problem is that Vibrant has no Support in India. And the last time I flashed something, I regret it, as it took about 1 month of hassle of shipping it to US and from there to Texas.
Hence, I am going to avoid flashing anything onto it till the time I gather $250 to change the Motherboard of the Vibrant to the one of the International Galaxy S I9000, as that has the support needed in India, in case of a Hard Brick.
Any other Button Combinations other than these will be of great help. Thank You.

I always just:
Have USB plugged into computer
USB is unplugged from phone
Hold volume up + volume down
Plug USB into phone
Hmm... okay, rather than re-read your OP, did you try:
on pc open newest version of ODIN (make sure it's the newest, noob guide has a link to it)
connect USB to PC (not phone)
Phone, take battery out... put it back in
press and hold both volume buttons.. make sure both are pressed in and held
plug in USB to phone (should already be connected to pc, with ODIN open)
Keep holding... a second or two passes....
Download mode?

+1 this method always works for me
would the Quickboot app work for you I wonder....
when i press an "up" button.. it functions as a down button ..
and a down button as an up button..
and power button is not working..
ive been trying to get into a download mode
but when I do a "press up and downbutton +plug usb + plug a battery" trick to get into the download mode
the recovery mode screen automatically appears...
so stressed now..
I would be greatly appreciated if anyone can help me out
All of this and more can be found in the Noob Guide in the general section op by S15274N
You are in recovery mode if it says "2E" or "3E" recovery you should be able to get into download mode and then you can flash back into stock.
To get to download mode plug in you usb into the computer first. then, hold the volume keys both down then plug into the phone (while it is showing the recovery mode, in other words it is still on) if it does not work, then pull out then try again a couple of times When you plug it in leave for 2-3 secs. There are other methods in the noob guide to try as well. If this does not work or you can't get it Then, just buy a Jig from the xda member connextion2005 (mobilevideotech.com I think). they are 8 bucks and all you do in just plug it in and it will bring up the download mode. From there you can do this:
Get the Odin program 1.7 or newer, get the Stock 2.1 Tar file, get the 512pit file
You can find these in the general forum in the thread called Noob guide
then:
Open Odin, plug in your phone, put into download mode. connect it to the computer it will recognize might say com8 or some other number
Load the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
You want to check the 're-partition' box.
Now click start, let it finish, and this time your phone will load up just fine!
Then, root the phone and you can flash your new Rom.
Use the super oneclick method it is easier to root then download Rom manager and now you can flash any rom you want
This is solvable good luck

Lets do this one
dont take the battery out
just press down vol and up vol without power and plug the usb
tell me if it worked
NO,, It didn't work..
the problem is that the recovery mode appears instead as soon as i plug the usb..
even if i tried the old method I've been using for..(this one used to always work but not anymore..)
1. Remove SD and SIM card
2. Remove battery
3. plug the phone into USB
4. hold down vol-up and vol-down
5. Pop the battery back in while holding vol buttons
This may work if not.............
Just get the jig it works and will solve this problem

I have heard that sometimes pulling your battery for 10 min or so has helped.
Or maybe rebooting your pc or a different usb port
Hm....have you tried only pressing the Vol. DOWN buttom? Try this:
1. Take out battery of phone
2. Press Vol. DOWN only
3. Insert the battery back to the phone. (Keep pressing VOL. DOWN)
4. Press POWER (Keep pressing VOL. DOWN)
5. Then, when you see the "Download Mode" icon, plug the USB (Note, you need to have the USB unplugged during the whole process for this to work, and only plug it in when you see the Download Mode icon. Also, when you plug it in, you need to have Odin opened ALREADY, and the drivers installed. Remember you don't only need the Samsung's Drivers, you also need the Nexus S drivers)
This seems the only way i can go into download mode. I made a thread a couple of days back, it have lots of info and suggestions on how to go into download mode, here it is:

This:
1. Take out everything from your phone. SIM, Ext SD Card, Battery
2. Press BOTH Vol Buttoms
3. Plug USB on PC and on the Phone
4. Put back ONLY the battery
5. You should be in download mode
Thats the usual way, but, idk some devices go into download mode in a different way than the usual way, for example, mines. This is how i go into download mode:
1. Phone is unplugged and turned off.
2. First i press VOL DOWN ONLY and then POWER Buttom
3. Voila, im in download mode. No need to plug the USB or taking out the battery
I discovered it by accident, i was going to go into recovery, turned off the phone and accidentaly pressed vol down instead of vol up, and i was pretty in shock when i saw the download icon pop on my screen. I was lucky i guess, i was already planning on buying/making a JIGG lol. Goodluck!
thank u .... it work by pressing the up vol and plug in the usb...
