[Q] Nook App on CM7 not working - Nook Color Themes and Apps

I am running CM7 7.1.0 RC1 off sd card when I load the nook app and log in I see my newspapers Wall Street Journal and Barron's but when I try to download I keep getting error message indicating file format not supported.

Are yuo using the most recent version of the Nook app? I think at one point the app did not support newspapers and magazines.

I am running the latest download from the market version 2.6.2. Somewhere I thought I read something about a build prop file needing to be changed for certain devices in order to run certain apps like the new market app but I am not sure at all how that works or if it even applies.

I use the Nook for Android app pretty extensively and subscribe to several magazines. When I have trouble with the Nook app, and I haven't for some time, I do the following.
1. Go to applications
2. Click on the Nook app
3. Click on Clear Data.
4. Click on Uninstall
Reboot
5. Go to market.
6. Search for and install Nook App.
7. Sign in
8. Download content again.
I've done 10 NB installs since I had to do that, so I don't think it's a current issue if you get the latest version.
Market shows this as:
Updated: Juune 8, 2011
Current Version: 2.6.2
NB 143 is running smoothly enough for me to think it's good as RC2 for 7.1

Thanks for the information and suggestions. I have now updated to nightly 140 and things are running very good. However I still am having the same issue with the Nook app I have wiped data and uninstalled rebooted and reinstalled several times and it shows that I have purchased subscriptions to both the WSJ and Barron's but when I go to download it still gives me the file not supported error message. When I do a search using the app I see other newspapers available for purchase but not the Wall Street Journal or Barron's. However, when on go online through my laptop they show when doing a search for newspaper subscriptions. I have not tried to download any content through the nook app yet maybe that's the next step but I find it strange that these two publications do not show up in a search using the app. Any thoughts we be much appreciated.

Nook App goes straight to Library
Hope this is on point...
I have an issue where the nook ereader app goes straight to library. This is different than the nook app on my G2x and the videos that I've seen for others using CM7 show the same app as on the G2x. Any thoughts. I'm thinking that this might be due to the lack of an IMEI ?

[Q] Error processing purchase

I am unable to purchase/download applications from the Market both on the gTab and through the website. The Market says "You don't have any devices." and the tablet returns the error "Purchase cancelled Error processing purchase" with the "Retry" and "Cancel" options. Since I gotten this error I have gone through the follow steps to remedy the situation:
1. Cleared the Market data in the applications section
2. Changed my Google account password
3. Wiped and reinstalled GtabComb_b3.3_bl1.2.
4. Contacted Google support (they directed me to Viewsonic)
5. Posted this looking for help.
Note that all the apps that I have installed prior to this issue are automatically downloading/reinstalling just fine. I just can't add new apps. Any help would appreciated.

Ran into the same problem setting up GtabComb on my old tablet for my wife (I just got a Xoom). All went fine, all her apps registered under her gmail account came down and installed just fine. I couldn't add any other apps (free) and got the same error you were getting. Google searches gave some suggestions but nothing worked. I wiped and installed CM7.1 (latest nightly) and have no trouble with it.
No answer to your problem....I just gave up after a bit. She is running CM7.03 on her slightly defective Gtablet (can't power off or reboot issue)....so she'll be fine with CM7.1.

Go here http://www.google.com/support/androidmarket/bin/request.py?contact_type=cont and fill out the Talk to a Specilaist section. Google wil call you in seconds & you will be put into the phone queue. I've had this same problem twice (Purchase cancelled Error processing purchase" with the "Retry" and "Cancel" options) & each time my wait time was less than 5 minutes. Each time they have had to forward the ticket to the account management team for resolution & it has gotten fixed each time within 48hrs.

@aabbondanza I did talk to someone through android support and was told that they do not support/recognize the Viewsonic gTab. How did you get around telling them that you have a gTab?

It's definitely an account issue. If you press the issue and tell them you have been downloading things in the past & that updates still install fine, they should help you. They tried to pull that line on me this time too (& they just fixed my account yesterday). You may have to fib & tell them you have a different tablet (my rep said my tablet showed as an epad). My rep also admiited in the end that he had a gtab himself.
I'll try and see if I can "work around" things tomorrow. In the meantime the Amazon market is working just fine and has what I need.

I was shown this thread by someone on another forum and it worked great for me just download the new market and you will be able to download apps again, it will not show your device on the online android market but it will work on your tablet.
You will have two markets in manage applications, but i just installed it and it replaced the old one and now uses the new market for the app shortcut.
Also i am running flashback 8.1 Rom. can't confirm this works on all although i assume it should but back everything up just in case before proceeding.
Updated Android Market For Honeycomb & Phones - Ice Cream Sandwich Market (4.0)
I just installed the linked to market and lo and behold I have a working app store again. The web app does not show the tablet still.

I can confirm it works on GTabComb v3.3 b/l 1.2. This was the second time this week that I got the error (and 3rd time in a month)...first 2 times Google Android support fixed it, this time installing Market v3.1.5 fixed it.

I can confirm that this fix only partially world with Flashback 8.1. Now some apps install, and all apps download, but many apps cannot locate the SD card or USB storage. Any ideas gents?
Edited to add: I just made the jump from 8.1 to 9.0. Only a data/factory reset was required and then Titanium all my apps back in. I have not had any issues downloading applications post upgrade and strongly suggest this "fix" to anyone running Honeycomb that has had market issues.

[HOW-TO] Amazon App store on your Nook Tablet

I have seen several posts with people having issues trying to use the Amazon app store or install apps from the Amazon app store on their nook, so I decided to write up this brief guide.
1) You MUST have an SDCard installed BEFORE installing the Amazon app store. The reason for this is that the Amazon app store uses an SDCard to store certain information/cache/etc. While you can can get some things to install without an SDCard, you won't get all your apps to install without one. So if you want to install all your stuff from the Amazon app store, put an SDCard in your Nook FIRST.
2) From your Nook tablet, you can install the Amazon Appstore by typing in the following URL: www.amazon.com/amazonappstoreapp
3) You CAN use the same Amazon app store login on multiple devices. I currently have 2 HTC EVO3D phones and the Nook tablet all using the same login. The advantage of this is that if you (like me) have been grabbing free app of the day for a long time now, you will also have access to these on your Nook tablet.

hey is it possible for an app from the amazon app store to not be compatible with the NT? i think today's free app isn't compatible with the NT because it simply says so when I try to install it...
Probably. There are a lot of apps on the normal Android market that aren't compatible with the NT. The difference between them and the free app of the day is that they just don't show up normally. The free app shows up for everyone, since it's part of the "Advertising" section of the store.

I think I've done this correctly, but let me make sure...
I'm working with a rooted NT.
I uninstalled the amazon app using an uninstaller from the Android market.
I removed the SD card, which was not in there the first time I turned on the NT.
Turned off the NT
Deleted all contents on the SD card and reinserted it.
Turned on the NT
Installed the Amazon App
Signed in
Tried to install a few apps, but keep getting "Unable to install - This application was not able to install onto your device. Please "Archive" and then "Unarchive" the application to try again.
Any ideas on how I can troubleshoot this?
Thanks!

This is what happens when you try to install a non-Nook app using the BN App Installer instead of the Android Package Installer. You need to navigate to the Manage Applications menu (get to it from NT Hidden Settings app, or the applications menu of ADW or Zeam, or any other possible way) and find App Installer. Click on it and then click the button that says "clear defaults." This should bring up a menu next time you install an app where you will choose to install with Package Installer, and set this as default. You should be good to go from there on (unless you try to install an app that is not designed for tablets/NT as indicated above).

Thank you for the assistance!
When I went there, no defaults were set. I went back to install an app and I still get the same error message, but originally I wasn't specific enough and left out this step:
I get a popup menu when I choose to install or reinstall an app and it asks me:
Complete action using - App Installer or Package installer.
If I choose app installer, I get the error mentioned. If I choose package installer, I get Parse error - There is a problem parsing the package.
remove sd card and put back in.
remove sd card and reboot and put back in.
it's something to do with the sd card.
Package Installer is what you should be using. From my experience, 'parsing error' has meant that the app is not compatible with the NT. So far these have included BeWeather, multiple games from Gameloft, and a drawing pad app from Amazon.

I don't think so, I was getting that error trying to download es file manager. amazon appstore stared to work after I removed sd card, rebooted, put card back in, download some apps off android market. So not completely sure what I did to get it working.
Ya, just for the sake of testing try MultiTouch Tester. It's free and I just installed it to make sure.

Well then that is probably worth trying also. Now that I think about it there are some apps that I tried to sideload and got a parsing error, then when I tried to install with Root Explorer they did work (but not all have). So I guess this only makes the error more unclear...

Worked for me. Worked with my old root, and now with Indirect's updated root script too.
Recently re-rooted after 1.4.1 update. Used Indirect's updated root script.
Is there some regional thing with the Amazon Appstore? I'm from England, on holiday in the US and I picked up a Tablet. I installed the amazon appstore fine and it worked and i tried to get it to download the free version of ES File Manager and everytime it starts it pops up with a payment issue and takes me to a webpage to sign in to add my payment details. I have a UK credit card attached to my account and figured that would be fine considering I'm not even paying for anything as its free but it wont let me. So can people outside the US without a US credit card use the mazon appstore? Also how do you get the Amazon App store icon to show up in the apps area? Once I leave the store the only way I can get it back is by re-installing it which is not ideal.

[HOW-TO] Install apps not showing up in Marketplace

Note: Root access is required in order for this to work.
Since I've found a workaround to install apps not showing up in the marketplace and haven't seen anyone address the issue other than rewriting system files, I thought I'd post this for people who (like me) don't know how to use the first method.
1) search for the app you want on Google in your browser, ie "xxx android"
2) click on the result leading to the Marketplace website (IMPORTANT: be sure to open the link with your browser and not the Market!)
3) click the "Install" button
4) you will be prompted to login, enter your info (you should only have to do this once)
5) this time, choose to open with Market when prompted
6) click the "Install" button and your app will download!
Hope this helps anyone

When I try this method, the search finds the program I'm looking for but as soon as I log in and open with "Market", not the browser, it replies with "Program not found". So I guess it doesn't work for me.
Thanks for the suggestion, anyway.

What app did you try? I can try the same one and see if it works for me. If it does, I'll try to see what went wrong.

It was iBird Pro. It cost money, but just try to get to the point to where it try's to confirm whether or not you really want to pay for it.
Thanks,

Its not working for me either which leads me to believe its the app. Go ahead and try another free app just to see if the method even works.

Worked perfectly with Evernote.
Thanks a ton, less hunting for apks now
I checked Evernote, and Evernote shows up as downloadable for the Nook Tablet without using the work around.

Oh, well then... I feel stupid? Edit: I didn't see it when I tried searching for it in the Market app.
Just tried it with Google Maps and no dice.
Ok, I tried AVG Mobilation Anti-Virus Pro, and it came back with something like "Sorry but you can't download because you haven't paid for it" and then I got the good old "! Your device isn't compatible with this item".

I don't understand how this can work - if apps aren't showing up in the Market on your tablet, surely that's because Market thinks they're not compatible with your NT. And if that's the case, when you sign into your account in the browser, the same thing would happen of not letting you send the app to devices it doesn't think are compatible?
In browser, the Market doesn't even list my NT as one of my devices, even though I'm signed into the Market app on my NT. Any thoughts on this?
I've had this method work twice and fail a couple times. At step 5 when it opens up the market the app still shows as incompatible but it downloads it anyway.
Torrential91, can you give me an example of an app that this worked correctly for you?
rodorr
I just had it work for Real Racing 2 free version.
I tried it with facebook, but there was no download option, just a note saying it was not compatible with my device.
This method was successful in getting to the app page where i could not before.
I tried "Real Racing 2" and it did indeed work for me. It gave me the message "Your device isn't compatible with this item" but it went ahead and downloaded it anyway. So it does work with some items. Maybe it just doesn't work if there is a cost associated with the item.
rodorr
I know Google maps worked for me. I believe Tumblr also worked this way.
Seems like this method is hit or miss. Can't really say why =/ I'm not a dev in any way, just a guy that experiments with trial and error haha.
Maybe a dev can chime in on this?

Can not load Nook app after new rom

Hi,
Having finally decided I have had it with the stock rom after this last update crashed my system I flashed Calkulin +Clemsyn Combo Overclock. I was not disappointed with it but I am running into one problem. As I am installing all of the apps I had before I can not get the B & N Nook app to reinstall. Actually it installs fine but when I try to sign in to the app it keeps saying I have no WIFI which isn't true. I uninstalled the app and deleted the folder from the SD card. I went to FreewareLovers and found the older versions of the app. I installed it and while I can at least sign in with that one it will not sync my library. I called B&N and they were of no help. They did say that it was not a problem with my account. This is the only app I have had problems with. I teach using e-books so I really do need this app. I have checked the date and time also which can cause problems with these e-book apps. If anyone has found a fix for this it would be greatly appreciated.

Nook Reader App 4.0

BN now has the Nook Reader App 4.0 on the Play Store. It even runs Kids books just like the stock reader. But Play Store shows it as incompatible with the Nook HD/HD+. It does run fine, just Play Store will not allow it to be installed so that it cannot be installed on the stock software and interfere with the stock version. The solution is to manually install the apk file to CM yourself. I have uploaded the apk file to my Dev-Host server account here:
http://d-h.st/BIPH
Thank you for sharing.
Edit: will not actually load any of my side loaded content. Sees it. Let me add to library, but won't let me open any of it. Alidko opened them fine.
This app was eating my processor time and battery, slowing down my device. I finally traced it to the nook service trying to keep me informed of things. I was able to fix it by going to settings, apps, and selecting the nook reader app. There I unchecked the show notifications box and all was well.
Edit: well spoke too soon. All was well because I force stopped the app also. As soon as I opened the app again that service started to eat me again. May need to go back to prior version which I had archived.
Edit2: I think I found the problem. First, I uninstalled and reinstalled the 4.0 app. That fixed my inability to see my sideloaded books. Second, I went to settings and in downloads unchecked both newspapers and magazines for automatic downloads. I subscribe to a magazine and the service was automatically downloading a new issue. That is what was eating my processor. All ok now. I love how the new version displays the magazines.
