Hello. I recently found an app, that can change your LCD density on the fly. The only problem that I have found, quite large actually, is that the dialer and phone are not working. I cannot place any calls whatsoever.
Now I really want this to work properly, because Ace looks just amazing at a density of 145. So I'm wondering, is there any fix available?
Edit: I have added a few screens, so that you can see the difference.
i dont quite understand
can you upload screenshort?
thanks
Changing the density may cause some market apps too to not work. Mostly your dialer will look screwed/don't work. Can you post a screenshot (back button + home button) for the 145? How does it look?
It looks like this: black screen when launching phone/dialer app or when someone is calling and then Force Close.
Oh, and the problems I mentioned.
Dialer force close
Changing the LCD density below 160 will cause your dialer tab to FC or to the extent that it wont show up. So i never recommend.
Change the dailer
Yea i had the same prob but it looks so much better that i wanted to continue with it solution use another dailer (many available on the markey ) hope that helps
I have changed the dialer, but the phone service is not working. When I try to call someone it just gives me a FC of the phone app.
what other dialer you've use?
Dialer 1, GO Dialer... It doesn't matter, the phone service still won't work and I can't receive or make calls.
Yea my bad
Did test it fully so didnt see the prob till later...sorry abt that
Managed to get to the dailer the the phone app crashes as said above
Have been looking around but no solution as yet

How do you end calls with the Tablet Dial pad???
I can not hang up when making a call, I see the DIALPAD tab on bottom, bring it up, no END CALL option, exit DIALPAD app, phone still ringing
Hit your "menu" button (the middle of the 3 capacitive buttons). It will bring up options such as End Call.
No END CALL when menu button is pushed, I have HOLD, MUTE, SPEAKER, and BLUETOOTH options only. I am running 240 density. Is it being cut off? What are the available options when MENU button is pressed? Thanks in Advance
yes 99% sure its being cut off with 240 density
if your lucky, maybe you can rotate the phone and see the whole menu that way, probably not though.
Will going to the STOCKPHONE option solve my problem?
Someone on another forum posted a JPG of the menu options, and I only get the bottom 4 options, it is weird because I get the #5-dialpad above the HOLD, MUTE, SPEAKER, BLUETOOTH, but missing the menu options between.
Yeah, it gets cut off at 200 and above. I tried it with 200 and you can barely see the end call button. I'm sure on 240 it is just gone completely.
stockphone solves this problem, yes. if you want to keep the 240 density, you might have to go back to that.
Added stockphone to install.txt, problem solved.
My eyes like 240 and the stockphone seems a little more user friendly. Thanks to all for the help and interest, 1.70 solved my problem with the menu settings being all black at 240. I don't think I will move from 1.70 unless there are any other problems encountered. Life is Good with all my apps working smoothly.

Ditto. I'm on 200, not 240, but I love that the menu works properly (not all blacked out) and that all my apps and widgets work great. No issues.
Although ... I might have to try Honeycomb if Steve gets it working properly.
Hey guys just got a few quick questions, I know there is a likelihood this has been discussed elsewhere but I've not found the resources.
As much as I enjoy seeing a green battery icon ... it isn't of much use without a value. What's the best way to change this icon BUT without flashing a custom ROM, I like my ROM the way it is.
It appears I messed up in uninstalling the apk files ont he stock ROM as I removed the Task Manager, what apps can I use o replace this. I just want something I can use to switch between apps and is BOUND to the home button (long press).
I'm considering removing the camera app and sticking with Camera360 as my ONLY camera app, would this be a good idea. I'm assuming the latter has the originals feature set and much much more so I'm not losing anything at all. Given I've updated the firmware the quality should improve regardless of which app I use right?
Can someone please explain to me why there are 4 voice apps?
On my Desire I remember I could tell the phone NOT to sleep if it were charging, but I can't seem to find this option anywhere, does anyone know the exact location or is there an alternative app?
Is it just me, or does the normal OTA software update option not work? I tried it several times yesterday and I either got a failed connection or it just hung and did nothing ...
On my Desire I had a custom ROM and when I pressed the off button I got an option to reboot, any idea where I can get that option back?
I know since 2.2 they removed the vib->silent->normal settings when changing volume but I really need to use silent sometimes anyone know a way round this?
That's most of my questions for now, thanks for your help guys :-D.
This is interesting because I am very interested in most of these questions as well. Here is my opinions on each.

-There is battery icon mods, search for it in the Theme section

-The only Rom I know of that can change the long press of the home button is CM7.

-The camera app is safe to remove. I would try Titanium and freeze it first if you're worried.

-You might want to detail these better.

I actually just found this one for KF3 so I'm going to test it in a moment
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1215413
As per the camera, backups aren't my concern more of getting the best quality and featureset.
I will look into tasker, though I was looking for something very light as I only need this one feature.
Rather stick with stock ROM for now, at least until I get a JIG
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Sorry about that thanks.
Just as a quick update, reinstalled the Task manager app and placed the apk back in the system/app folder and it seems to work. Also the battery icon has been updated and looked great :-D.
[*]As per the camera, backups aren't my concern more of getting the best quality and featureset.
I think you underestimate Titanium, it does more than backups.
Oh I don't use Titanium for my backups, I like always starting from fresh, so my contacts, etc are backedup but apps and settings I always prefer doing from scratch.
I tried Camera 360 and unless I'm mistaken the quality seemed LESS than the default app, which was a let down. Maybe I will try again.

karan999's KF3 stock ROM with CF-Rooted KF3 kernel works perfectly, only concern is I feel like when I'm using the browser that the % drops like a rock in contrast to when I'm just doing normal activities like calls and text. In fact I can speak for quite some time and there's hardly a % change.

When you are browsing with WiFi in Stock browser then battery drains at a rate of 1% per 3/4 minutes. Try Opera, it's a little bit of less hogger
Regards.
I've been using 3G/HSDPA, no WiFi access here. I think on data it is about that about of % decrease for me. I can survive with it as I don't browse on the go much but at home it feels like a disappointment.
Anyone figured out how to replace the task manager for long press home button?
i got some problems with cm9.1 stable on i9100g and i hope you can help me...
#1 after turning touchkey backlights off in advanced settings(process called com.cyanogemod.settings), it stays off but after rebooting its on again. i searched but never found a solution. does anyone know how to permanently turn them off or how i should write in an init.t script to turn them off automatically on boot?
the .disable_touchkey in /data does nothing. if i create it manually or edit it with 0/1 nothing changes after saving.
#2 i got horsepower kernel for unvervolting and the app romtoolbox pro and when i set the voltage for 150mhz down to 750 i sense no difference(i think it should lag more..?) and after reboot it shows the old voltage table again...
#3 in contacts id like to have NO contact pictures as i'll never use them nor small nor big. same goes for phone.apk and in/out going calls. i want NO dummy picture. i just want it to be pure black in the background with the calling number and/or name without using apps.
#4 i changed some settings in system folders(which im aware of what they do) and changed permissions. after reboot.. guess? the permissions are set to the old settings...
#5 how can i turn off the proximity sensor(turning screen black when something comes 8cm or less to the phone while calling)??? i found one tip in the internet. someone wrote if i changed the letters randomly of every "proximity" which is written in a sensors file in the root, it turns off. i did that and it was off!!!! but so was the camera function... so after replacing it with the original file it worked again...
sometimes i miss things from gb... the liteweight contacts and phone apk where i could hide my girls numbers in groups.. the sliding function for calling or text sending... the always working blacklist...
cm9/ics is better but some funstions are worse than gb
puuuush
Hi.
Either my ninja skills in googling has lost it's mojo today, or what I'm looking for doesn't exist. Which would seem quite stange.
I have an old unused phone running Android 2.1, I think it's a Samsung GT-I5600 or something very similar. My three year old daughter have all the computers and tablets she could ever want, so I would like this one to be a very simple telephone that she could use to make calls to preset numbers and nothing else. I would like a screen lock that's easy to unlock and then just two big pictures or buttons. One for me and one for her mum. That button should make a call, and nothing else. Perhaps there could be a hidden preference whenever the call should be made thru the speaker or not.
To me this seems like something someone must have thought of before me, but as i wrote... I can't find anything like it.
Do you know of any app / lockscreen like this?
Turns out it was possible to achieve this, with a bit of fiddeling around, with Holo Launcher and Holo Lock. There are some quick call apps that seems promising too.
This is a work in progress for enabling smart screen!!
I've only tested this on the H811 so far. I know there aren't too many with an unlocked bootloader so please try at your own risk.
So far I have smart screen enabled under settings. You can check and uncheck it to activate. The issue I'm running into is it doesn't actually keep.the screen on. You'll get the face detecting notification in the status bar but the screen still times out. I would like any help in this if anyone has any to offer. I've tried installing the wise screen apk from the VZW G4, but I get force closes. The one from my gpad 8.0 is the same app and it also force closes. This one is from my Gpad 7.0 and I don't know for sure if it's the reason it doesn't work even though it installs and doesn't fc. My gpad is still on kitkat so there are no associated libs. I'm in the process of requesting the files from a G3 running LP to see if it makes a difference.. Just waiting on someone to send them.
So for now this is what I have..
Install the wise screen apk into system/priv-app and set permissions rw-r-r
Move lge framework-res to the system before moving it to the framework folder to avoid any fc issues. Set permissions rw-r-r before moving into system/framework/lge framework-res.
After doing so reboot
Upon reboot go to system/settings/display and scroll almost all the way to the bottom check smart screen. Test it out and rack your brain, let's see if we can get this fully functional.
So from my logs I'm seeing on the gpad when the notification comes up wise screen calls to the camera and the cameraa opens for face detection. On the G4 it does not call to the camera and/or the camera isn't responding to it. Smart lock will open the camera if you have facial recognition on. So we know the camera will/should respond when called. I'm thinking that there is something wrong with the odex file. The wisescreen apk from the Gpad 7 have a classes.dex inside and the one for the gpad 8 and vzw G4 do not. I don't know if it is irrelevant because the Gpad 8 works and the G4 doesn't.
If someone from Vzw wants to send me their lge res apk so we can test it on theirs since it's the only model.in which wise screen is already installed(not active)
Okay, so it is calling the camera. The thing is though, Lg upped the resolution on the front camera and every version of smart screen is looking for a smaller resolution than available so it doesn't open.. "Can not find". Might have to edit the resolution capabilities in smart screen, but I don't know about all that. Just brainstorming here.
Okay, well I've tried 3 different face detecting apps and none of them work on the G4. It seems none of them can tie into the camera. Currently I'm at a stalemate.
Making slight progress. Was able to give it it's own sub category, but still not working..
One idea
