i believe people are already working for this and yes skype is aware of this, many android devices arent compatible and to do so would require some good dev work to let them know well they do but if u wish to reiterate it go to theyre threads
I thought there was a hack that used the generic video driver in 2.3.4?

the skype video library is not compatible with our cpu because it doesn't use NEON. an atrix owner is actually and ironically the one who is hacking apart the skype app on the xda software forum, and has discovered this limitation. we can't do anything about it until skype themselves updates the libraries to work with the tegra.

Thanks for the info, I heard something about this but not this level of detail.
It's a shame and I don't think it's very high up on Skype's priorities. But on the plus side, Tango is looking to introduce Desktop software and Google has video support for Chat and Google Talk on the desktop!

Can't we use the same hack which yahoo messenger uses for front camera?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
IIRC, it's a driver support issue which is barring us. But I too was hoping that the new app might have something that we'd be able to make use of to implement some support for our Atrix devices.
Will keep a hopeful eye open.

Of course you can do 3G videocalls on Optimus One, it works perfectly....
You need either Fring or Tango from android market... ( phone to phone videocalls) and a new app that is called VTOK, its in his beta, but is showing good progress, it can do videocalls to google mail ( phone to pc and phone to phone) !!!! GREAT!!
So you absolutelly can do 3G calls on O1

3G Video calls as in over the network. I know those apps but the other person must have that app installed and must be on it. In that case Yahoo Messenger works really great for me. I mean 3G phone to phone video call over the network.
Ohhh i see.... somewhere i read that android 2.3.4 implements 3g videocalls... but maybe its only for phones with front camera, but im sure someone will hack it in order to use back camera...

Even if someone does that, you will have to hold the phone backwards so there is no way you can see the video of the other person.

Yeah but can use a mirror and can at least see the other person.
There are many workarounds for that... search in google.
Cases with mirrors, clips with mirrors, BATHROOM mirror (LOL)....

This is interesting.

Wonder if there is truth to this or not.
if it is true then +1 to verizon. tmobile or att would probably allow them even if they were buggy.
Yeah I saw that on phonearena.com this morning. I wonder how often this kinda stuff happens. Moto needs to step up their game bigtime.

Lmao are you kidding me? Have you seen how long it takes AT&T to push out updates to their android phones?
I'd rather have a buggy release sooner because devs on XDA are like 10x faster at fixing them anyways.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
Maybe the update also has the possibility to unlock bootloader and Verizon is saying f*&k no, take it back.
probably not, but would suck for vzw users
Hopefully that doesn't delay the Atrix update D:
Forget that. Send it out now. I trust our devs more than moto to fix the bugs and do it better lol.

because att has most likely seen this and other carriers might follow? who knows.
think about if verizon doesnt let this release because of so many bugs, then think about if att does let it release with all its bugs. people will think att is careless, att doesnt want that im sure.. just my oppinion

It's relevant because the same or similar bugs could exist in the Atrix GB they are developing. Also, if they are putting more resources into making Verizon happy, this could delay an Atrix release.
The whole point of the thread was to raise discussion about the possible implications if this news is in fact true.
I don't think that it should have any effect on our beloved Atrix 2.3 release (AT&T version), coz the bootloader is unlocked, so even if the update will be buggy the skillful devs here at XDA will do there magic to provide us with stable roms.

I believe you are wrong. As soon as the GB update goes live everyone is going to dump the HKTW build and flash the Moto update. At that point everyone is running stock and waiting for devs to fix all their complaints. Yes most of us will not be running stock, but that will be after the update comes.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
I'm not dumping the HKTW build until it's been verified that the AT&T 2.3.4 build will have an unlockable bootloader. I've had a couple of friends that got hurt by the Sprint EVO 4G update and are still stuck waiting just to get root back.

Um, I believe none of us can know exactly what will be out. For all you or I know, we could be on the verge of cm7. With most things working.
Of course, a reply I would expect from you is "the devs won't have roms out by then."

Looks like Skype is starting to roll video calling out to Android phones.
http://gizmo.do/mFu31G
Sadly the Atrix is not one of the first phones that video calling is enabled on.
For this first phase of launch, handsets that support video calling include the HTC Desire S, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo, Sony Ericsson Xperia pro and the Google Nexus S.

Anyone care to take a stab at getting it to work on the Atrix? Maybe a build.prop edit will suffice?
Wondering if it will work with 2.3.4.
more possible than everyone else as that list has Gingerbread devices

well obviously it won't, it wasn't released for the atrix. we would have to edit some files within the apk or to get the apk to think we were a compatible device for it to work.

Don't know if its the same as EVO users using an app to do it. As they have Sense to do it....
Will it ever be possiblem
i am patiently waiting for this as well!
I believe its a driver issue . So until GB is released , if it ever is no TV out .
I actually placed a similar post in the questions section early this morning and just happened across this post while searching for cm7 themes, does anyone else know the proper way to send a request out to the cm7 developers for such a feature? Also, so as not to bother them too much, have any of their develpers offically responded to said question?

As many of you know, Fring doesnt work with the SGS2. In particular, the front facing camera does not seem to transmit, though you are able to see the other person. I contact Fring about this and here is the response I got:
>Hello,
>Thank you for contacting our support team.
>We are aware of the issue and working to solve it in the near future.
>Make sure to check our blog for version updates http://www.fring.com/blog
>Please feel free to contact us again should you have any further queries.
