So just wanted to let everyone know I started development of an X2 rom using a similar approach to Minimal X but keeping in the essential apps, such as the calendar and alarm clock. I'm currently alpha testing my first build right now and its surprisingly stable. Here's what I plan to offer in the first initial release.
-AOSP apps (very minimal blur)
-Launcher2 (rather than moto's launcher)
-Recovery Bootstrap app included with install
-Overclocking (still trying to work out the bugs)
It's not a lot offered above, but will help to eliminate all the bloat and still leave you with a fully functioning experience.
Are there any suggestions you guys have for features that could be added in for the first release or down the road. This is my first ROM and being a PHP developer its a completely different world to me.
Thanks for looking and your feedback.

Thnks for working on the Droid X2. I have a backup phone so if you need a tester im here
I'd be interested in testing for you if you ever were looking for testers. thanks for all your hard work

Gingerbread theme? Also a must have for a rom for me is the blur task killer, blur camera, and blur alarm clock
Beta test
I can also beta test for you. Thx
Thanks for the feedback everyone. Since my weekend is a little busy I probably wont have a beta out to download and test til Monday, but as far as stability, its pretty smooth. I just want to fix a few aesthetics before I release it.

Its mostly Verizon's fault, but putting pressure on Motorola will help get the bootloader unlocked later this year. I think I recall an article that said Motorola will/was considering unlocking their bootloaders later this year. As far as i know unless they do, or we hack all the way around it we can't manipulate the kernel that controls the processor. Someone did get 2nd-init, so now we can port all of the popular roms over, but no dice on kernels yet. Complain to Verizon and Motorola. Its your phone you should be able to with it as you please. Verizon should be posting Sbf with tutorials on how to fix your phone after you over tweak.
As far as the rom goes how about including some hacked apk's or a modified version of the blur cam with search button as the shutter button. Anyway you could get rid of the snap to grid on the home screen icons. Could make some sweet home screens if you could move the icons where ever you want them.
For those that have to have certain applications that came default on the DX2 keep your eyes on this post > http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-x2-roms/161753-dx2-apk-grabber.html I am working on an app which includes all of the original files so that you can easily re-add them to a custom rom. This helps the developer keep their rom's slim and allows the end user to only get what they actually want.

+2, as well as Quickoffice...
Well, the phone really is not our own unless we buy it out-right. It's provided at a lower cost for the promise we will keep their service and I think in that case they have the right to lock it down, but on the other side of the coin I think they should give you the option to unlock everything once the contract term is up or if you buy the phone upfront.
I really like the idea of using the search button to take pictures. Sometimes if you hit the on screen button it pulls over the menu instead of snapping the picture which can ruin a kodak moment.
The snap to grid is really annoying. I would like to place the icons anyplace I fancy. And as a final note, we have an SBF with a guide already.
Overclock would be nice

I'd love the ability to kill the current app by long-pressing the Back button.
I'd also like to see power control widgets in the notification bar, but since I have Quick Settings tied to my long-press Search button, that's lower priority.
I'd also be happy to beta this!
I would love to help you test this!

I would be, as well. Not having calendar killed MinimalX2 for me, but I liked everything else about it. And overclocking?

Tardis based storage, you flip the screen up and have several large room of storage to hang out and drink beer in.
Fully debloated, deodexed, overclocked, with a nicely animated 3d theme would also be nice

I'm guessing you haven't looked at CorteX2. It's got half of what you asked for and one thing is currently impossible atm (overclocking).
I would like LED customization for apps. Meaning you define what apps use what color. It was in Ultimate Droid but I'm not sure where he got it from.
EDIT: And I wasn't trying to be a jerk. Just saying you should go look at what he's done already.
Samsung pull downs are pretty sweet.
ability to change the led color, themes.

Yeah saw half of it is in there, and am impressed with whats there already (good work) was just saying a nice animated 3d theme woujld be nice as well. my friend just got a droid 3 and when sliding between screens theres a 3d effect that looks kinda cool, not looking for the same effect but some 3d animations would be nice. I know overclocking isnt possible yet but a most decent overclock programs also underclock which is possible=-) I really like your idea of differant leds for differant things ( it would be amazingly nice to look at the light and know green means txt, red means missed call, blue for email or whatnot. Im guessing no luck on the tardis mode though lol
Fast, clean, and stable. Anything else is just icing on the cake.

Liberty Rom sounds cool.
Eventhough I know this is related to a Rom thread, I will need to move this general forums since it is not development. Also, this discussion can be perfectly carry out in the rom thread.
Thanks
would like to see CRT tv off Animations
some color (nothing bright or ugly.... simple) but incorporated through the whole rom dial pad, settings, etc.
some widget love! the white stock stuff is ugly would like to see some dark color maybe transparent .....somewhere along those lines ...........
everything else is pretty much a given ......
thanks for asking the users ! good to get an input in and hopefully see some good stuff in your work to come! thanks agian!!!!

what i would like to see in a droid x2 rom
personally I really like minimalx... just remove everything possibly without breaking functionality so we can install and use our own apps. just make it blazing fast with a simple black theme.
Im sure its early for this and i know we dont have our source code yet and even more sure we dont have the droid. 3 source code yet but is this even being looked at yet? I love this phone and the new blur isnt that bad (surprisingly )but i use spb shell. Cant lie though that new blur is pretty sexy

Not only that, but the new Blur, (which Motorola doesn't like to call Blur, and still refers to it as blur in programming), is now the Motorola Applications Platform, but is wonderfully filled with features on the Droid Bionic. Can't wait to see a port of their "com.motorola.blur.home.apk," and "com.motorola.blur.widgets.apk," in addition to whatever other goodies it has to offer.

I know there was a Droid 3 system dump and I'm pretty sure there was a Bionic one as well. Is it possible to port the Blur home from either of those to the X2? Or is anyone working on that? I've been interested in trying the new Blur home.

Theoretically, anything is possible. But whether or not it is worth the effort to do so is a better question.
It would be nice though.
Would be cool to see. Eye candy gives me nerdgasms.
I'd love to see the Bionic's blur on the X2, I really like the new lockscreen/home screen transitions.

<---agrees 100% ... I would love to see a bionic port... Btw zumocast almost fully works on my dx2... With the exception of: I cant update and i cant play video.. But if i could get the overall bionic ui i would be in geek heaven... Or even just the quick contacts widget would be a nice addition.. :d
Would anyone with a Bionic be kind enough to post up the BlurHome2.apk (or whatever the actual name is..). I'd like to see if pushing it to my phone works like the launcher2 did.

Very helpful....this thread is about asking to put it on our phones, not whether you like it or not.
Anyone else in here dying of anticipation for the CM7 beta to be released? I find myself checking the XDA thread and dragonzkiller's twitter like every 10 minutes or so.
Yup! I haven't flashed the alpha but I am most definitely going to try the beta! Can't wait!
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
Honestly, I'm running CM7 alpha and it's the quickest responding thing I've ever seen. Once they fix the dumb crap like the SD card and the battery it's gonna be the best thing to happen to DX2 to date and I was a die hard eclipse fan. I would say, try the alpha just to get aquainted, you know the beta release will be here any day.
Can't wait for the beta release. I am also checking twitter and the thread constantly. So excited to see what has been fixed in the beta. Can't wait to flash CM7 to my x2
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
You better believeI'm excited. I ran CM7 on my HTC Desire and loved it. Can't wait for Theme Chooser, gesture unlock, fully configurable notification tray power widgets, and (most importantly) the complete annihilation of Blur.
By the way, guys that are running the Alpha, are you noticing more available memory for applications in CM7? I was thinking about giving that SPB Shell 3D launcher a try, but not at the expense of my X2's already limited RAM.
Dragonzkiller and the rest of the team that got us here are rockstars--we should all skip today's Starbucks fix and support them! (If for no reason other than the entirely selfish one that maybe if we show our few devs how much we appreciate the effort, we can expect a CM9 port in a few months...)
I would wait on the 3D shell until the beta. I've tried it and it's really not that much cooler than go launcher. I wound up uninstalling after a week. I do agree however that everyone should be throwing gobs of money at dragonzkiller. There has been a MASSIVE amount of time, effort, and frustration that has gone into getting us to this point with CM7.

Be forewarned - it costs $15. But, I believe this is because they are marketing it more for phone manufacturers to include as the default shell in their phones. I don't think anyone has take the bait, though.

I read about a couple devices that are launching with it, they're kinda generic tho. No big names... I paid the 15 bucks for it a year and a half ago, never used it for more than a few hours. The Widgets have some decent animation, but the whole thing is rather gimmicky. To get them all going you have to have like 10 screens, and at that point its much easier to just go to the app drawer like any other launcher. Neat but not useful. Plus the dock is atrocious.

Yeah, Honestly, I'm still pissed that I forked over $15 months ago on that launcher. I really don't think it's even as good as some of the $5 and below launchers! I really didn't like it and it was just a big gimmick it seemed.
