Wht's funny is that Moto didn't even bother to add the audio file to the system/media/audio/notification folder. It is still as 2.2.2.
This just goes to show how lazy they are when they can't even update this simple thing. It may be a very minor detail, but it's the small details that make the difference.
OP, if you use the boot animation from the GB ROM and you want the boot animation audio, move att_power_opt.ogg to system/media/audio/notifications.

Maybe Motorola realized that the att_power_opt.ogg is annoying. And maybe opt stands for optional?

Yeah, guess it's optional since you need root and a file manager like Root Explorer to move it? If Moto wanted to make it optional to the general public, there would be an "option" to use it or not.

Ah ok, sorry still new to this, had to get root explorer to get access to that part of my phone.
it works, but it doesn't repeat the animation. How would I make it repeat that? Also, any possible way to add unlocked to the boot animation so it doesn't just disappear when it boots?
You will need to set permissions!
See the original file on your /system/media dir...

For anyone wondering how to replace your bootanimation, just mount your system partition either with Clockwork Recovery or root explorer and push a bootanimation.zip to /system/customize/resource/TMUS_bootanimation.zip
Here are a couple you can use:
My Evo 4g Bootanimation Thread - Sorry some say Evo 4g.
SamJamz BootAnimation Thread
Basically any bootanimation from a phone that is 480x800 should fit just fine.

Do you push the file while in recovery mode? Kinda confused about that part.
Edit: Got it, yep, you have to be in recovery to accomplish this.
Can this be done on non rooted phones? I know it was done on the nexus

Our phones are a little bit different... our bootanimation is located at system/customize/resource and renamed bootanimation.zip to TMUS_bootanimation.zip I did all this thru root explorer no adb required!
just incase, I also copied the original file I was replacing to my sdcard (if ever I wanted to go back)
Hope this helps
Here's one of my favs, R2d2 boot animation. It's already named correctly, just use root explorer, and make sure the permission is right. Ahh, can't upload zip from the app, I will when I get to my cpu
Thanks for this!
I now have a sweet Android (Cyanogen theme - in prep for CM release ) boot animation in place of the lame stock "my" scribble.
Now all I'd like to do for boot is change the stock splash screen. I've found one to use, but the instructions for applying are for the Evo and not sure I want to risk jacking something up if it's not right. It states to use fastboot to flash the splash screen onto the phone, replacing the stock. To those who know - does that sound right? Where is the stock splash located so I can back it up to my sdcard first?
Any pointers appreciated!
it looks like it u have to be permarooted for the changes to stick :-\

I am also in root explorer and went thru the needed folders till I got to bootanimation folder. How do you paste the renamed animation into that folder? (don't want to screw it up) copy from my sd card and paste it into the folder? Do i paste it into the folder and then tap on (mount rw)? Or do I tap on (mount rw) then hit paste. Rookie worried I might screw it up if do it wrong.
Thanks,

This contains a qmg file. If i rename the zip to bootanimation.zip it should work?
In case you were still waiting for a reply, no it should not work. A qmg file is a compressed video file using some proprietary format that gets played. Bootanimation.zips contain a series of images that are linked together to create an animation.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

check untermensch thread of the i9000 boot and shutdown animation. i have steps on what i did to get it to work on a rom modified for bootanimations.zip
whats happening is the zip you're flashing, isnt installing the qmg files to the system/media. so you'll have to push them manually with root explorer

i noticed you are on nero v5..can you please tell me how you managed to get boot sound enabled and clam animation..that is exactly what Im trying and im stuck with a black screen and no sound..I used jbeez's korean flash that restored sound and then boots with qmg files..tried flashing bootanimatoin of clam and now nothing..no sound no animation...
for some reason I cannot drag and drop the file into the system/media folder. I am using Root Explorer. Is there something else I should know?
Select R/W in root explorer rather thn R/O
Because GSM/Non-US versions of the RAZR do not get that nice animation.
CONFIRMED: This bionic bootanimation works for all our RAZR's.
INSTRUCTIONS
Use Root Explorer
Copy bootanimation.zip & droidhd.ogg to system/media
Change permissions to rw-r--r--
Reboot & Enjoy!
Credits to kraziekc for the original thread, I only tested and confirmed this file works on our RAZR's.

Has anyone got a custom made or downloaded boot animation for their Z3 working? Because I can't get mines to work at all and then when I placed the original bootanimation.zip back, the original boot animation no longer works either.

That looks pretty cool. But does it work on your Z3, I'm assuming it does because you said you're using it. But I would more like to use my own that I made myself and I just can't get it to work at all. I know how to make boot animations and how to ZIP them up as Store and what the values in the desc.txt mean. I just don't understand why it won't work. And even after putting back the original bootanimation.zip, I no longer have a boot animation at all.
Idk man :|
Have you tried editing an already existing one?

Yeah I actually edited a copy of the original which has the exact same number or images that I replaced in it even saved them all in the exact same image format. But what's weird is that after I realized that the one I made was no good, I placed the original back. But even after doing that I now don't have a boot animation at all.
So no one knows why custom made boot animations won't work with the Z3? I've made my own custom boot animations for both of my previous Android devices, Xperia PLAY and Xperia Z Ultra and I've never had any issues when doing it.

System is write protected. we can only read or delete files on system but won't replace ir change it. Maybe your device not boot if you do this.
If you just remove the animation from the system, the system will boot as Android.
Definitely don't try to replace the animation with another one when the system is running. If there was a bootlop, you would have no way to fix it.
You can safely replace the animation only in recovery, in case of a bootlop you can put it back in recovery. If recovery allows you to exchange.
