[Review] Zec Electronics FolioGuard V2 - Eee Pad Transformer Accessories

I was in the fortunate position of having samples of the FolioGuard V2 case to review over the weekend..
The design of the case remains largely the same, with a few notable changes designed to address some of the concerns people had with the V1 Folioguard.
I'm going to be short and sweet with this one, highlighting what I think are the most salient points..
Positives
* VERY professional looking. Both the white and black cases that I had to review looked really nice. I think the White looks especially striking (although there's a potential for it to get grubby) making a bold statement amid a sea of the usual black folio cases on the market today.

* The quality of stitching etc. is very good!
* The cases are made from a nice faux leather material - feels good in the hand and to look at (although I liked V1 material too). The inside material feels really nice, soft yet tactile.
* Magnets are much better on V2 and hold the case closed very well!
* There is a velcro fastener on the flip out tab that holds the tablet in place. Its very good and holds everything in securely (although IMHO I felt the velcro-less V1 held things in well too)
* Transformer tablet sits very securely inside of case!
* There are more viewing angles on offer (although I'll come back to this later)
* Size and Weight comparable to V1 (perhaps a fraction heavier)
Negatives
* On both white & black cases, the front and rear camera holes are not as precisely positioned as they were on V1. This might settle as the material has more use OR it may just be down to manufacturing tolerances on the sample cases I had. In any case, when I used camera app I could see that the images from both front and rear cameras were partially blocked on occasion.
If I were to guess, the Front camera holes were cut approx 1mm too high and the rear camera holes cut approx 1mm too low (I've made Zec Electronic aware of this, so hopefully its something they can address in any future manufacturing runs)
* The grooves for "multi-angle" positioning do not hold the tablet as securely in place as I found with V1 - this is possibly due to the change of material, and is most noticable when using the lowest 2 grooves (lowest two angles)
Some Suggestions (passed on to Zec Electronic)
* Take a look at camera holes - the flexibility of the material where they are is possibly the difference between them being in alignment and not. As I said, this may settle with use as the material stretches but if Zec can account for this - it would be better.. or position the holes more precisely/make bigger holes?
* For the inside section with the grooves ONLY, change back to material from V1 case or switch to a "non-slip" material or make the grooves more defined (deeper?)
Verdict
Its another nice case with a few (hopefully easy to correct) manufacturing flaws. If Zec can iron these out, the nicer material, better magnets and overal polish V2 brings to the table could make it a very important purchase on any Transformer owners list

Where can I find this case? So far the aesthetics of this case are better than what I have seen in others so far. I tried searching but couldn't find this exact model.
Thanks!

Simple "Padfolio" Case for GTab

I thought I'd share some pix of a simple and cheap case for the GTab based on the foam from your original packaging.
This uses a simple "padfolio" from the office store. This is a Buxton Classic Writing Pad, but there were many versions at my local store that would have worked. The only real qualifications are that the spine be wide enough to accommodate the 1/2 inch depth of the tablet and thin enough to fold back over to form a stand.
I carefully removed the foam outline from the original packaging, and glued it to the folio using a paste glue that I hope is sufficiently strong. Be careful, though, as I expect many super-glue products would melt the foam rather than bond with it.
As you can see, the foam outline fits nicely into the space designed for a writing pad (11.5 inches). It props up nicely in my lap or on the table (and with these lousy viewing angles, adaptability is nice).
I don't like the idea of tape or velcro on something like this, so I don't have it secured within the foam. It does fit relatively snugly, though, and as long as you hold it in the closed position, the tablet cannot fall out.
Until we find some better choices made for our rare (but amazing) device, this might do the trick for some of you.
Noticed that Sears still shows the Viewsonic case as a holiday Special for $5.99. Web site accepted order and shipped. Not a super great case, but offers some protection and has a handle for carrying.

You mean the case logic one ? how tightly does it fit ? looks more like a square sized.

Might want to consider the $4.21 case crown cases from amazon.

Looks like your tablet sits in there loose, but nice try

Review: Cimo Technologies Matte TPU Case

With a plethora of cases available for the new AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note the decision on which case to buy can be a tough one. This review takes a look at Cimo Technologies' Matte Finish TPU Case.

Packaging:
Cimo presents the case in a dazzle free fair. The case is delivered in a simple plastic wrapping with the all to familiar cardboard cutout of a Note sitting in it. I don't think extravagant packing is needed for a case, and in theory, the less they spend on the packaging, the less the consumer pays for the product.
Aesthetics and Construction:
The case is made up of two layers: a high gloss black 'upper' that surrounds the top portion of the case and circles the screen and a matte 'lower' that protects the lower half and back of the phone. The material feels durable and does provide some texture that the nude Note doesn't have. The case extends over the lip around the phone and extends a touch above the screen for protection. Installation is a breeze. The case fits well on the Note and has very little play- something hard cases often can't offer. The ports are accessible and the cutouts for the S-pen, speaker, camera, and flash are lined up well.
The one drawback is that like most other TPU cases there are 'tags' left on this case that are left from when the case was molded. These do protrude from the case more than what I would have liked, but can easily be removed with a blade.
Overall Function:
First and foremost a case is there to protect the phone, and with my experience so far I think this case will perform well. There looks to be a good balance between thickness and protection which is a plus since no one wants to add too much bulk to their phones. The raised edge allows those who don't have a screen protector to set the phone face down and have a little extra security that the screen will be unharmed.
Unfortunately, this case is still a little too thick on the bottom to allow successful function with the Samsung Desktop Dock. Although the phone will sit in the cradle, the USB plug cannot span the extra distance the case puts between it and the port.
Verdict:
I've used quite a bit of TPU cases on my devices in the past and generally the experience has been a mixed bag. Cimo's offering, on the other hand, seems like a well made worthy choice. It's minimal heft, good fit, solid protection, and fingerprint resistant matte finish makes a strong case to be your next purchase
Gallery:
I actually have been using a tpu case from them also, same look just glossy black. They are great fiting tpu cases. I have a friend buying one for his nexus now also. I would recommend them for sure.

Looks like the case covers half of the speaker on the back of the device judging by one of the pics you've posted here.

Yes, I noticed that pic looked funny. I was swapping a few cases at the time and must not have got the case on perfectly when that pic was shot. When installed right the speaker is not obscured (although the cut out is a touch oversized).
Thanks for pointing that out.

Case types

Before I begin - yes, I know I'm being ultra-picky. I'm still looking for the "perfect" case, or as close to it as I can get. I don't have a dock so I'm not distinguishing those which also cover that, and I'm not counting sleeves. Despite finding hundreds of cases on Amazon and eBay, it appears there are only a few different types - with slight variations.
Here's what I found, with my $.02 below...
Silicone

I know there is a member here working on a plastic back case that looks promising, but I don't think that will be available any time soon. Have I missed anything else?
Let me know!

BobJ is coming out with a silicone case, that works great! (I have a prototype, and he's told me the changes he's implementing, some of which I had recommended)
He's very conscientious about making quality cases, as is obvious from his Amazon reviews on the BobJ Toshiba Thrive cases he sells.
No, it doesn't cover or protect the screen, but if you feel the gorilla glass is sufficient, or if you don't and get a screen protector, it should be an issue.
All ports and openings will be accessible, and it provides excellent protection to the device.
Should be available in one to two weeks, hopefully.
You can go to www.bobjgear.com to check out what they'll look like.

there are 2 that I know of:
Sikai also makes a Microfiber case that is available on ebay. its essentially a tri fold covering the bevel but made out of microfiber.
great reviews from people on this board, but to me the way the stitching sticks out on each side is a deal breaker. and there is no way it wont start to stretch out and eventually the prime will have room to wiggle inside.
the Noreve high end leather case.
http://www.noreve.com/langue/en/pro...ormer_Prime_TF201_Tradition_leather_case.html
its a three position case made of high end materials that seems to deserve its own category. only issue is the price, which matches the high end materials.
its a shame marware hasnt come out with their 3 position case for the Prime. great materials, the bottom corner clips are felt on the inside so tbey dont scratch the screen and its half the price of the Noreve (based on ipad prices).

I have been using the Sikai Microfiber style case for a few months now and it hasn't stretched out at all. The material the case is made from isn't stretchy, it is a firm synthetic material similar to the material used in Apple's iPad Smartcover.
The seams are heat sealed as well as stitched. The edges are slightly flexible and are very comfortable in your hand, much nicer than the Prime's somewhat sharp edges.
If you are looking for a thin and light case to protect your Prime, it is one of the best ones available right now.

Description
Bumper design allows you to see the OnePlus 5's good looks
The design of the OnePlus 5 aluminium bumper means that you are still able to see the majority of your gorgeous OnePlus 5 at all times.
Provides drop protection
This aluminium bumper features anti-shock protection to maximise the safety of the OnePlus 5. Not only does it protect your phone, but it looks great also.
Raised bezel that protects your screen from scratches and dirt
This bumper has a raised bezel, that prevents your OnePlus 5's screen from coming into contact with any flat surface when you place the phone face down. This prevents your OnePlus 5 screen from getting any unwanted scratches and dirt on it.
Keeps your phone slim and light
Thanks to the bumper design, your phone won't have added bulk - helping to keep your OnePlus 5 as slim and light as it was originally designed to be.
Easily access all ports, controls & connectors
The case also features cut-outs for the ports and features of the OnePlus 5, including the dock connector and camera.

What do you think?
Comes in Gold, Red, Silver and Purple.
Not sure how much drop protection an aluminium bumper would provide though, not much I would guess.

Gold: http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/luphie-sword-oneplus-5-aluminium-bumper-case-gold-p64321.htm
Silver: http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/luphie-sword-oneplus-5-aluminium-bumper-case-silver-p64323.htm (Have to admit that looks damn sexy)
Purple: http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/luphie-sword-oneplus-5-aluminium-bumper-case-purple-p64324.htm
Honestly not a massive fan. Doesn't seem like it would actually do anything bar change how the phone falls. Doesn't seem like it will protect is from small "cosmetic" damage either
The line "The case also features cut-outs for the ports and features of the OnePlus 5, including the dock connector and camera." Make me laugh a bit, I wouldn't being able to charge and take photos with your phone a feature
Apparently they had a similar case for the 3/3T...
Yeah, I think this is style more than function, cancelled my order of the aluminium one and ordered the rhinoshield instead, it is still a very nice looking bumper.

I would have ordered RhinoShield if there's one for 5t. So, I was looking at this one but have read GPS issues on it. Still torned since I have no choice if I'd like to just feel the dBrand skin while protected at the same time
I very like bumper cases, and this aluminium case is sexy.
But from my experience, metal cases reduce antenna reception. On my old LG G Pro, the GPS reception was almost @ 0 with a metal bumper.
Could be different with newer phones, I can't tell since I don't own a metal case.
It was slim, nice feel in the hand, and it even got some rubber pad inside the case. I assume that protection level was not great, but not bad either.
Not at that price for a bumper.
Bought it and use it for a few week.gps, wifi and data seems a bit weaker.gps is definitely getting worst. Loose lock every few kilometer . Swap out with rhinoshield, everything went back to normal. But it look really nice though.

[UK/EU] Armourdillo and Rhinoshield cases now in stock at MobileFun

For all you UK/EU users, the excellent Armourdillo case is now in stock at MobileFun for the OnePlus 5, I really enjoyed this case for my 3T, it provides excellent drop/front protection for your phone at a reasonable price.

Sadly they don't have a large range of colours yet, only black or blue:
Black : http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/olixar-armourdillo-oneplus-5-protective-case-black-p64276.htm
Blue : http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/olixar-armourdillo-oneplus-5-protective-case-blue-p64278.htm
Although at £12.99 and offering similar protection to the Otterbox I would still say that's a great deal. Mine is in the post so I'll add some images when it arrives.
I'm hoping the ridges on the bottom are the same depth as the pop-out stand as pop-out cases usually tend to rock when you try to use the phone on a table. It doesn't look like that's the case though, that's the main thing I would want to change about it.
I'd love to know how they got the phone in silver with a white front, possibly it was a prototype for cases they were given, I would guess this as the ports on the bottom seem to be sealed.
In other news, the Rhinoshield has also just arrived in stock with MobileFun today too:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/rhinoshield-crashguard-oneplus-5-protective-bumper-case-black-p64392.htm
I've ordered that as well so I'll try to leave a small review when it arrives.

So, The Armourdillo has arrived (MobileFun sent an e-mail explaining that the Rhinoshield is delayed ) :
See attached pictures for the Armourdillo (Black) in all it's glory...along with a nice shot of my pentile matrix on my Orzly screen protector, you can see there is adequate protections for the back/sides, there's ample room around the ports, the notification switch is also very accessible.
The phone will rock slightly when it's on it's back and you're using it which I predict will become a bugbear, really don't understand why they can't raise the ridges slightly or make the stand removable, all these types of cases have these oversights.
As you can see there's adequate face protection too, especially when you're using a TGP as I am, there's still clearance with that on too.
Any questions, let me know.

How breakable is the outer part? I had one on my workphone (A5 2016) and one little drop cracked the back. Wasn't pleased one bit but I hope it's got better
Not sure and I don't intend to find out but it seems sturdy enough, the case does add a bit of weight to the phone but with the added protection I don't mind.
Does it stick out a lot, the stand part?

It does a bit, I really wish they'd make that an clip on part or raise the rest of the back to match.
