New ruu through hboot - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm stuck in a bootloop and all I can get to is hboot. My recovery randomly turns of and reboots so I can't do anything. How do you flash an ruu through hboot. Thx
Sent from my Droid using XDA App

The same way you would a radio. Find the CORRECT RUU, rename it, then flash it through update. Make sure its the right RUU for your setup.

Here's a link to some RUU's. http://dougpiston.com/ThunderBolt/RUU/ The .exe are meant to be run from your computer. The .zip are to flash from hboot, you'll just need to rename them PG05IMG.zip. After you flash the .zip remember to delete or rename them so next time you go into hboot it doesn't start flashing again.

If your recovery is rebooting you might be screwed. That is usually a pretty good sign on the death bootloop. If you can get the stock RUU flashed back to s-on and it still reboots most likely a brick. Might want to jump on the thunderbolt IRC chat.

[Q] Is it safe to flash RUU in recovery or hboot for back to stock so I can return??

So, I need a little clarification.....first post and probably about to overexplain so please bear with me! Trying to go back to completely stock so I can return when my replacement comes in tmrw!! I know there are some threads on this but not completely sure if this process will work for the first step which is always 'Run a RUU file'. Was wanting to just rename the RUU zip file that I downloaded to 'PH98IMG' and boot into Bootloader and if I'm correct it should just run itself. Second option I was thinking of is to just drop the file onto my sdcard and just flash it in recovery like a rom. Either way I need to run the '...fastboot oem writesecureflag..' command after this to get rid of S-off after.
So I guess my real question is if these are valid methods to get me back on a stock/signed hboot??? New to this and have been playing around with friends Motorola's, Samsung's and my HTC so getting a little mixed up on what I can and cant do.
If this helps:
Rezound
HTC unlock before S-OFF
HBOOT - JuopunutBear 2.2.21
ROM - CleanROM DE 1.4
RECOVERY - AmonRA 3.15
Any Help would be greatly appreciated!!
Ph98img.zip file. Through hboot. Wont flash through recovery. Once it loads up the file you just have to hit volume up to accept.

Appreciate it!! Took a break from studying for my 8am Calc 3 and 11am Linear Equations finals to try to figure it out and was thinking that it couldn't actually be that simple haha.
Make sure to run it twice too

The PH98IMG.zip file should reboot into the bootloader after flashing the first stage, and you should allow it to flash the second stage. So, if you're using a recent RUU, it should automatically flash twice.
If the RUU doesn't reboot into bootloader the first time around then yes, flash twice.

Restore original recovery??

My evo 3d's screen gave out and instead of replacing it im sending it to HTC since its covered under the limited warranty.
The guy told me as long as I haven't loaded 3rd party software on my phone that it'll be ok even if I used HTC's tool to unlock the bootload (which I did). I was trying to follow this guide but the link given in the first step is dead:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194053
I used my NAND backup to restore the original sprint ROM, but I think I have to still actually flash it and restore the recovery. Were else can I find it since that link is down?

I don't have it, but all you need is any ruu: 2.07, 2.17, ext. I think you can get these off sprint or HTC websites.

Okay so I got the file and renamed it PG86IMG.zip and placed it in the sd root. Went to my hboot (1.50 unlocked) and it scans the file for a minute then nothing happens...doesn't install it or anything.
I tried to go to fastboot and run:
fastboot update P86IMG(.zip) without any success.
Any ideas?
Go to the Q & A and in the sticky one of them is going to say return to full stock . Just follow that guide and you're done

All you have to do is download 2.17 RUU .exe not a zip. Relock device and run RUU.exe while the device is attached to fastboot usb. Once the exe goes through ur done your phone is restored to normal don't worry if ur phone shows relocked and a security warning just run the 2.17 RUU it will fix the security issues. This will also unroot ur device.

Go to the bootloader screen and tell us what hboot and radio versions you have.
Hboot 2.21 is gingerbread.
2.25 is the first ICS OTA.
2.27 is the global update.
Did you run an RUU?
That should work.

Baseband is radio.
Anyway, that means you are on Gingerbread.
So you can either flash the GB RUU, or upgrade with the ICS RUU.

All RUUs work s-on.
Only flashing hboot/radio individually requires s-off, and downgrading RUUs.

Need to lock the boot loader before running the ruu if you're s-on.

This is the process I've used from what I've read here many times.
Place the PH98 file of the RUU on your ext SD card.
Relocking the bootloader always has started the flash process for me but if it doesn't.
Pull the battery.
Boot into bootloader.
Let the RUU flash.
Let the phone boot but don't set anything up.
Shut down the phone and pull the battery.
Reboot into bootloader again.
Flash the RUU a second time.
Boot the phone.
Delete the PH98 file off your ext SD card.
Power down and pull the battery.
Boot back into the bootloader and do a factory reset.
Reboot again and enjoy.

THANK YOU!!!! Thanks all around! I am proficient in adb and rooting and unlocking bootloaders but what ive come to realize about htc is the whole s-off/s-on crap. as soon as i relocked the bootlooader and flashed the ruu already on my sd card i was able to get booted back up. im running a s3 as my my driver and dont really have to deal with radios and hboot, but when i had my thunderbolt it really started to bring back memories. thanks for the help guys!

[Q] Stuck trying to UnRoot

I have been having the worst time trying to take my Rezound back to stock. I rooted it a long while ago and am now stuck. I was able to relock but still at s-on and I cant seem to find the right RUU exe file to load the system back to stock. Current info is as follows;
HBOOT-2.25.0000
RADIO-1.22.10.0421r/1.22.10.0424r
OpenDSP-v13.6.0.7611.00.0104
eMMC-boot
Image version 3.14.605.12
I am a complete noob so I will need as much simple directions as possible. I am desperate at this point since I cant seem to get it to reload the stock. Every time I use the RUU.exe files
RUU_VIGOR_ICS_35_S_VERIZON_WWE_3.14.605.12_Radio_RS_1.22.10.0424r_3622A_MR3_9K_release_270509_signed.exe
Found on androidfiles.org/ruu/?developer=Vigor or any of the other ones it fails. Fortunately I have not bricked the phone yet but I am running out of options since android police site has one but says not to use it : This will not work if you used the HTC Bootloader unlock tool. Your device must be fully stock with a locked bootloader or you must have S-Off (method).
Help please!!!
Try this link here http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Vigor and download the PH98IMG_ICS_3.14.605.12.zip! Do not download any others. Rename it to PH98IMG.zip and flash in bootloader. It should allow you to flash it.
If I'm incorrect on something someone plz correct it

After you rename it place it on the root directory of the SD card. Then power phone off. Then press volume down + power so it boots into bootloader. There it should ask if you want to update. Tell it yes. It won't brick you as its the same s/w you seem to be on. Worst case it won't flash.
Edit: make sure you verify the md5!

What message do you get when running the RUU, also what Rom were you running prior to relocking?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
My rezound is semi-bricked currently and I am also looking to get back to stock form. I think the most current ROM that I had on it would be like Infection2.3. But I cannot seem to get past the boot animation and I believe the RUU needs to be actually booted up all the way? I will check the Hboot versions and such when I get home. (I tried a ph98img in the root but when it attempted to flash I got "HBoot version is older than expected, exiting")
Any thoughts?

Remember to flash a ph98img zip RUU, the bootloader must be relocked and internal storage will also be completely wiped. Backup the contents in recovery using usb mass storage mounts.

Sounds like all that needs done is a factory reset(wipe caches+data) and wipe system. Re-flash a Sense rom and fastboot flash the matching boot.img. Try my rom Viral OTA, just the data/system wipes prior to flashing and it willk get you back up to 100%. Rememer to reboot to bootloader if using TWRP.

[Q] HELP! Need to get back to ICS from GB RUU

Before I hard brick my phone, I'm hoping someone can help me get back to an RUU.
I was unlocked and running a custom ROM, but was having some video problems. I was on the HBOOT 2.28 Global ICS FW. I did the JuopunutBear S-off last night, so that I could run an RUU and go back to a stock Firmware. I got S-Off, and flashed back to a GB RUU, RUU_Vigor_VERIZON_WWE_1.00.605.3_Radio_RS_0.93.00.0914r_3161C1_9K_NV_8k_1.12_9k_1.83_V_APT_release_216261_signed.exe
The RUU completed fine, and I was able to boot into the stock RUU GB. I decided to S-on again, because I was hoping to start getting the OTA updates. After I went S-on again, I couldn't get it to find any OTA updates available.
I thought maybe it was too old of an RUU, so I tried running a newer one like RUU_Vigor_VERIZON_WWE_1.02.605.6_Radio_RS_0.95.00.1013r_3161E_9K_NV_8k_1.12_9k_1.83_V_APT_release_221502_signed.zip
RUU_Vigor_VERIZON_WWE_2.01.605.11_Radio_RS_0.95.00.1123r_3161E_9K_QMR_release_233635_signed.exe
I couldn't get either one to run. I thought maybe it was because I wasn't S-off anymore, so I unlocked again and tried to re-run control bear. S-off kept failing, and then realized I had forgotten to root my device. Now, when I power on, I get the HBOOT screen, and then tries to load the Juopunut screen and just sits there.
I can get to the SD card using a USB card reader, and I can get into HBOOT.
HBOOT shows version 2.05.0000 S-on unlocked eMMC-boot but doesn't show any radio versions?
Not sure, what to do now?
Why on earth would you have gone back to GB?
Also, Son or Soff is irrelevant to OTA updates if your stock.
I would get the last official RUU, 3.14.605.12 and load that... You should be able to then OTA to current. Or just Soff again, flash radios and hboot, and a stock ROM image.

Basically, download the RUU file, rename to PH98IMG.zip, copy to SD Card, boot into H-Boot, the system will detect the update file, confirm the load, and the rest is automatic but be patient, it will reboot several times... even after it comes up give it 15 minutes to settle down before doing anything crazy

Awesome, glad you got it working... now be patient, it should update in a few steps, first to 3.14.605.13, then after that is up and working it should upgrade to 4.5.605.14. Sometimes this can take a few days to occur. If it doesn't, you will need to S-OFF again and manually flash the hboot/radios and ROM.

Like ace said, probably too old... probably don't even host the update on vzw's servers anymore. Generally, from what I understand, as long as you don't S-ON while on jp's hboot or some other hboot, you should be able to recover. ONLY S-ON if you are on a booting stock hboot and rom (RUU is safest).
It's pretty hard to hard brick other than that (afaik).
