Complete Restore? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi after searching I wasnt able to find an answer to this.
I am using Titanium Pro Backup, Go SMS backups, and ADW EX backups.
However after installing new ROMS (usually the CM7 Nightlies) I still have to enter in all my email accounts, widgets, App Drawer Categores, and a few other minor things.
Is there such a thing as a complete restore of my settings without reverting to the previous ROM?
I am sure I have missed something out there that does this?
Thanks

are the nightly full ROM wipes or are you wiping yourself, if they are not then dont wipe.
However you should be able to restore stuff like email accounts by restoring the email client data, just find your client in titanium and click restore, make sure you just restore the data. Note however, I find titanium a bit wobbly with email settings, i have often have force closes so I try never to wipe data with updates.

if you are using social hub for your email clients then for some reason data stored for social hub cannot be restored fully. using titanium backup if you restore data for email.apk and social hub.apk it only restores imap email accounts such as Aol and gmail only. for some reason it does not restore hotmail and yahoo email accounts.

it has restored mine in the past I believe, although I haven't had to do this for a while so I could be mistaken.

Thanks very much for the replies. Didnt realize I didnt need to wipe data for the nightlies. Makes life much easier now.

[Q] Sync/Nandroid Issue

Did a full nandbackup and have checked back with my original eris 2.1 which has my most current google contact list and my stored text messages.
When i check the last time i google sync'd my contacts to the exchange server (on original eris 2.1 setup) it says 9/29/10 (today) but when I flash my new kaosfroyo the contact list does not include any additions ive made since i purchased the phone.
All contacts were always saved in the google contact list in an effort to backup data on a server instead of just the phone.
Would the best bet be to wipe the ROM and flash again and try to let google re-sync? Or is this an issue I will need to take up with Verizon (for the longest time it would say "this service is temp unavailable" in the sync options)?
Also, is it possible to have my text messages imported to my new ROM? Nandbackup apparently would not do this-possibly another sync issue?
Btw if this question has been asked I apologize - tried to search through these forums quite a bit to no avail. Any help for a first poster would be much appreciated.
I would have thought if your contacts are "Google" contacts, re-syncing your Google account would bring them all back in.
As to importing SMS/MMS (i.e. text messages and those with pictures) into a freshly flashed ROM, yes you can import them. I do that all the time. I have Titanium Backup installed and before I flash a new ROM I backup SMS/MMS, browser bookmarks, and email account settings. Once you have TB installed, the item you will be looking for to backup for SMS/MMS is called something like "[SMS/MMS] Dialer Storage". In the old ROM, you open TB and backup this item. Flash the new ROM, install TB. Open TB, restore "Data Only" for Dialer Storage and then reboot your phone. Do not open messaging app before you reboot the phone. After the reboot, all your backed up SMS/MMS should be there. The same process works for me for browser bookmarks and email account settings. However, I am not sure but I think backing up the email account settings only works for those accounts which are configured through the stock mail app vice being configured via Menu --> Accounts & Sync.
A word about Titanium Backup: the paid version of the app is well worth the money.
Can you verify that your contacts were synced properly, perhaps going into Gmail and assuring that all your changes are there. If they aren't go back to 2.1, sync again then reflash KaosFroyo. If your changes are there then you could try re-flashing anyways (you may try to reboot and resync first). As far as text messages, I'm not aware of anyway to back them up directly, but they're are great apps that can backup all SMS to your gmail account. Hope this helps a little, good luck!
Just downloaded Titanium and backed up all sms (after a long struggle w/ the app not recognizing that I DID check the allow foreign apps setting)
Will reflash tonight and hope that Google kept everything in order
Thanks for the replies... ill let you know how it turns out tomorrow
Looks like my "sync contacts" with google never officially worked. When I went back to my original eris setup with my current contacts it reverted back to saying last sync 03/xx/10.
I let the phone attempt to sync for nearly 2 hours and still no data sent... I searched through the forums and came across a post saying to flash a new radio in order to establish the connection with google. Are there any better resolutions to this problem or is this the best option?
I am still working on getting titanium to backup my messages - everytime I create a backup with my original eris setup it gives me full backup (160 data apps including sms and mms) but when i flash my new rom it says all data and apps restored to OS yet I still don't have my old texts.

You could always use the contacts app on the phone to export a vcard of your contacts and import it via gmail. I had to do this with my brothers CDMA hero because it just absolutely would not sync with gmail, it would add contacts from gmail to the phone but not the other way around. After we exported as a vcard and imported into gmail manually it has brought down the contacts every time since.
Looked around and found a neat little trick that apparently resets google sync
I used the manage apps and cleared all data for my SMS/MMS dialer storage
Rebooted then reloaded my gmail account and the sync error vanished
f yes
Also downloaded SMS/MMS backup and restore - other than some duplicated messages I now have all my texts.
Yaaaay now I can enjoy my new ROM

[Q] Restoring After Flashing

After following the various guides on how best to backup/flash/restore, I think I'm missing a step.
I use Titanium Backup to create backups prior to flashing, and then after applying a new ROM and selecting 'replace missing apps and data', I find myself left with quite a bit of re-setup to do. No mail accounts, preferences, et cetera are retained and I have to re-do everything after flashing.
Is there a step I'm missing or perhaps a different restore type?
I've read doing a restore of system data is bad; is that the case?
Thanks.

Are you only backing up user apps or are you backing up all user apps + system data? If its the first one then you wouldnt be backing up mail account information and such.

The latter, but I'm not restoring the system data. Are the cautions against doing that necessary?
If you dont restore the data then you wont have any of the settings for the apps saved. I am not 100% sure about things like mail accounts being saved or not, I know that things like wireless network settings arent saved. Also widgets and things that you set up on your homescreen wont be saved either unless you use a launcher like Launcher Pro and backup your homescreen. There will be some additional setup needed if you flash a new ROM even with TB.
Thanks you two.

I was able to restore mail. Everything was still backed up on titanium backup. I restored my apps and the data that went along with them. This didn't bring back mail though. If you go into backup/restore in titanium backup it lists all backed up items individually. Scroll down till you see E-mail Account settings. I clicked on this and restored it. this brought my mail accounts back. One problem was that if I went to settings/accounts and sync my microsoft outlook account was not showing up on there. The email was on my phone but wasn't listed in my accounts. My phone kept trying to sync contacts, calendar etc and it would always fail. I did have to delete this account and re-enter it into my phone.

[Q] What do you guys do to your data and apps when installing new ROMs?

Hi guys,
How do you ensure smooth replacement of apps, data (contacts, call logs, messages, home screen etc) when you have to wipe data in order to try new ROMs?
I have tried using Titanium Backup and My Backup Pro; but found that it was cumbersome and also some apps were missing and some of my contacts had duplicated onto Gmail?
What technique do you follow when trying out new ROMs?
i'm using titanium backup for "user apps" and gmail for contacts backup. that's all

+1
(Besides from nandroid backup for total fail cases. )
Thanks, guys.
So can you get your phone back to the customized routine self (with merged contacts of fb and twitter to gmail contacts & your customized homescreen settings and all) in a jiffy using Titanium Backup or any other technique for it?

[Q] Backup Procedure when Flashing

So, here i am flashing my phone almost every day now since the great release of 2011, thinking to myself there has got to be a more streamlined way of getting my apps / data back after a full wipe (factory reset).
I use Titanium Backup for my apps, but it seems to get a little glitchy (maps kept FC'ing on me) when i restore all. I use Exchange for contacts, email, calendar etc. If i do a full wipe, then restore Mail via TB, it pulls everything back to the most current email before i wiped, but that account is not listed under "Accounts & Sync" in the settings. My best bet now is to add the account before restoring in Accounts & Sync, tell it NOT to sync email, then restore emails and turn email sync back on. Seems like a pain in the arse. Same process for calendar and contacts.
Is that method of using TB the best way to go about a backup? On my last phone i would just re-sync everything and re-download the few apps i used. I had a moment so there wasn't too much that could be done via apps cause the thing was such a turd.
Any insight / tips? Thx
i have never had any problems with tb try to restore map app only no data

try my backup root from play store
Get to grips with TitaniumBackup, essential app for rooting and flashing custom roms. It'll backup and restore all your messages, wifi data, call logs (a bit temperamental though with call logs) and bookmarks etc. Very quick aswel.
I'd recommend syncing contact and calendar information with your Google account though and not restoring those with backups.
Also consider mybackup pro, for backing up SMS and logs.

I am now also using Titanium Backup Pro it is amazing and recover all user apps or even system data ... I wonder if there is any option to delete backuped system data and leave only apps ...
I use mybackup pro and it backs up everything, apks, data, texts, pictures, everything.
It's a thing of beauty.
