So I have noticed this not only on stock 2.1 non-root as well as root and custom sense roms such as GST. Also noticed on a friends unrooted Tbolt.. problem is when dialing contact without area code and contact stored with area code, phone number shows as unknown when dialing vs mapping to the contact without the area code. Anyone else notice this?? I never, ever have this issue with non sense rom's so figured some sort of issue with sense/HTC framework. Is it as simple as a setting I'm just not familiar with perhaps??
Thanks all!!!

I have looked around as much as I can in the million 2.1 X10 posts, but I still can't find anyone else who is having this issue, sorry if it has been answered already, but I tried...
I updated my Wife's X10 to 2.1 the other day, and everything is working much better than 1.6, the only slight annoyance she has noticed, is that when she receives a voicemail (She is on Rogers Wireless in Canada) she gets the standard voicemail notification, plus a text from "Voicemail" and then another text from "_(at)" saying there is a new voicemail.
Having 2.1 has enough fixes for her that this isn't that big of a deal, but it is kind of annoying, so we would like to fix it if we can.
I saw a post that says that Handcent doesn't understand 2.1's voicemail indicator, but I don't believe that, (or it's an old post) because I had 2.1 on my Nexus one for a while with Handcent (now 2.2.1 CM 6.1.0 RC1) and I have never had this issue.
Anyone know how to stop the several notifications, and make it just so we have the standard voicemail notification?

Sorry to ask again... But no one knows how to fix this?
I have the exact same problem. I've been unable to determine what is creating all the notifications.
It is only since going to 2.1.
Anyone?
Really? No one else has this problem?
It is Rogers doing it (had the same issue on my Nokia E71). I just live with it but it might be possible to change this from the account manager on their web site?
it might be a problem with the phone. i've had this happen to my fido phone.
Hi, I am a somewhat new user here starting originally with xtrsense 4.6.5. I am now using v 5.0.1 but I believe all the xtrsense roms use the original sense message app from stock 2.1.
My issue is that the messenger doesn't seem to split the messages up before sending them. From what I have read this isn't a problem for verizon users but I am not on verizon. I have set up my apn, prl, and everything else manually to get the phone to work, but this is the one last bug that I haven't been able to solve.
I know that I could use go sms or handcent, but I kinda like just sticking with htc's messenger. Does anyone know which files I could edit to help change this. I just downloaded the android sdk today so that I could poke around from the computer instead of just on the phone itself with a file manager. Also out of curiosity, where is the mms max message size stored? I think the default 1.2Mb is working fine but I want to play with some of the mms settings to see if I can get a better quality receiving/sending. I think it's just that my user agent isn’t really understood on this carrier, so I should change it to an android phone that they do have.
I have searched the web and found no discussion about it anywhere, leave alone xda-developers forum.
I have an X10i running on an Android custom ROM - CM 6.3.1.
I have a very unique and strange problem in my phone which is very annoying and causing inconvenience.
All the messages (SMSes) are being threaded wrongly and randomly. That is, an SMS coming from 'A' threaded to 'B'. B's SMSes threaded to 'C'. C's SMSes threaded to sometime A and Sometime B. And A's SMS create a new thread sometimes. An SMS coming from a totally new person or source threaded either A, B or C whereas they are not at all related anyhow etc.
This may sound unique and unbelivable but i am really facing this problem since a couple of months. Before that it was working fine.
The various steps which i have already tried but got no success are :
1) Wiped out the entire depository of SMSes and started afresh.
2) Reset my phone to factory default.
3) Tried different custom ROMs or different version of a custom ROMs.
I do not understand why the phone is behaving so strangely. A help from someone will be greatly appreciated.
Don't know if this would help but did you try using Stock super vanilla 2.1 just to see what happens?

Sorry.... but would u mind explaining what is Stock super vanilla 2.1?
1. Installed History Eraser app and erased app cache, search histories, SMSes, and call logs.
2. Uninstalled native Messaging app through Titanium Back up app.
3. Rebooted and then installed another popular SMS handling app - Handcent SMS.
The problem still remain as it is.
Anyone there to take the challenge.
Would it be possible to use the contact and dialer from an AOSP rom on a sense rom. I tried using the ones from CM7 and am having some issues.
Edit: I figured it out and have AOSP contacts and dialer now working on a Sense 3.0 Rom incase anyone wants it!
Not saying I particularly want it but why offer it but share no information on how to do it?

I did it that way because I didn't make the mod. The thread started out because I was having issues getting the AOSP contacts and dialer to work on my phone, so I was looking for help. After I figured it out I thought I would see if anyone was intreasted in this mod and I can send them the file or explain how they can get them. I used the contacts from CM7 which includes the dialer. If you use the dialer.apk from CM7 it will break your phone, Kills signal / service. I have the contacts pulled from that Rom if anyone wants it. I take no credit for it in any way.
im Interested!!! Hate the Rosie Dialer!!
I have a Rogers GSm version, dont know if that would affect anything
Here is the contacts apk. It is NOT flashable through recovery. Install using a file manager (like Astro) I did not create this so I take no credit for this. This came from CM7.

This is interesting. Many people including myself have wanted to have the option to integrate the aosp dialer/ contacts into a sense based rom since the good old Hero days but based on the way the two are integrated into Sense roms as a whole, this has never been possible.
I can't remember the technical reasons why, only that many concluded it wasn't much of a possibilty.
Anyway, if anyone else can confirm that we can now have these features integrated into Sense as the op states, that would be awedome.

There are a few issues with using the ASOP contacts with a sense rom. For instance joining contacts will cause a FC. I run a customized rom with as much sense removed as possible. To achieve this I have modified the ASOP contacts to work better on sense. I've never released the modified contacts because I don't have time to support it. The features I use work fine now (for instance the join fc is fixed) ; however, I'm sure there are other issues and at the moment I have no time to resolve anything found.
If people are willing to live with what you get is what you get I can post my modified contacts tonight after work.
HtcDialer still needs to be installed. I can also post a version of this modded to hide the icon from the app drawer and to stop it from being used for certain functions (a convenience feature so I don't have to select the ASOP contacts as the default)

I love Android, I truly do... but there is one thing I just cannot stand about any Android phone I've seen: the SMS app(s). The SMS apps and responsiveness of them are atrocious. I've had my system hang plenty of times when trying to send SMS along with MMS too, is there any reason for it? I don't see such an issue when it comes to iOS... I have no other UI responsiveness issues when it comes to Android other than anything SMS related.
I originally had an Acer Liquid E before, granted it's not the best phone, but I flashed a custom ROM for it, UI responsiveness was increased, however one problem still remained: SMS app(s) responsiveness. I recently purchased a Galaxy S2 LTE thinking that it would be fixed, however the problem STILL remains... and I'm boggled as to why it remains even after ICS.
Is there anyone that can provide some sort of explanation or has a similar annoyance with it?

Same here, HTC Desire, 4.0.4.
Whenever I open a thread which has a larger amount of texts in it, the app hangs on loading and then on scrolling.
I think it's due to the way the interface for reading and storing messages (which is app-independent) has a sub-optimal way of retrieving them, causing the app to hang during operations with the database.

I don't really get lag when opening convos, but only when sending SMS/MMS, not sure if anyone else has this issue or if you do too..
I've switched to Sky-ICS and I still have this issue with a little over 20k+ texts... I really, REALLY wonder if there is a fix to this issue, I'm sure I'm not the only one that experiences huge lag when sending and receiving SMSes (on stock or 3rd party apps).
Obviously removing the 20k texts would fix the issue, but I don't see why this should be necessary? iOS doesn't have this issue...
