[Q] Streak5 becomes a brick - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my Streak5 becomes a brick, after i try use fastboot -w, current sutiation is: can't power on with press power button, and no fastboot press power+crmera, no recovery press power+volUp+VolDown, and no device found once connect to Windows PC and press volUp. someone can help to recover it?

From the Dell Streak entry on the XDA Wiki:
WARNING ABOUT FASTBOOT: Do not attempt to use fastboot erase or fastboot -w on the Streak. The fastboot program on the streak has issues and attempting to erase partitions with it may result in it hanging. If it hangs the Streak will not be able to start up and is likely not rescuable by any manner (including QDL Tool). Use factory reset via recovery mode instead.

I wish I had more encouraging news for you, but I'm afraid you need to get a hold of Dell.

You didn't do any research before you tried to flash your Streak so now you pretty much have an unrecoverable brick. You may have some luck with JTAG but it's a 50/50 chance you won't be able to use SIM with it by what I have read in the forums. You can forget about warranty after what you've done to it. SO this is what happens when you flash without having read enough

download streakflash from streakdoid.com that will unbrick it but with base 2.2 drives so you cant go back to 1.6 after you use it, only 2.1 and up. so run streakflash then flash 2.1 or 2.2 recovery and intall update.pkg

Why did you bump a 3 month old thread? more importantly qdl tool will not work here by itself anyway.
You must dissemble the device to fix this specific issue.

Rooting a Streak Engineering Sample

Hello all,
Apologies if this is not the right section to post - though it might be if I'm able to lift the ROM off this engineering device
I've been trying to root/change the ROM of this sample Streak device I have access to, but to no avail. It's SIM unlocked, but clearly is an earlier SW (possbily HW) version. There's no access to fastboot (pressing the camera on boot gets me to the engineering test menu, no fastboot option).
Here's some additional information:
Modem (Baseband) Version: AUS_************51
Model Number: M01M
OEM Version: Unknown
Build number: 77910
Any ideas?
Thanks
jkbuha
I'd ask Paul at modaco. He seems to know his way around rooting..
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
Thanks for the tip fards - I didn't really want to trouble Paul, but seeing as no one here has any ideas I'll drop him an email and see what his thoughts are.
cheers
jkbuha
photo of the engineering menu please
this sucks
Heres the boatloader !!! My touchscreen wont calibrate either nor will it go into fastboot!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Try using the androot.apk since it doesnt require fastboot.
well 1% progress...
im rooted but i cant downgrade or flash any rom im afraid to flash clockwork....I just found out how to get fastboot even on that screen tho!!!!!!!!!
thats interesting, australian version?
in any case, you can either root it via the universal root tool and do a nandroid backup, or you can yaffs2 it.
you need linux os on your computer, yaffs2, and the system folder from your device
Code:
# cd /where/your/dumped/system/folder/is
# ./mkfs.yaffs2 system /system.img
# exit
i have an engineering device too, the one with a sticker under the battery cover. just wondering, is there a FCC number for that one?
Hi I'm back - apos for the delay
So here's an update...
I've managed to semi-brick my engineering (aus?) dell by issuing a fastboot -w and/or a fastboot flash boot/recovery without backing up my system first! Flashing any recovery image so far is unsuccessful.
Here's what I know so far:
Pressing volume down ONLY (not UP) on powerup goes directly to the fastboot menu. Right now that's the only thing that works - no recovery, booting.
I tried to flash the backup nandroid image kindly provided by one of the posters on this forum, but no luck. Boot/Recovery/System works but when flashing userdata with the data.img provided I get an error saying remote: too large.
Not sure if I have an FCC id - I'll check later
Any help appreciated!
if you can get into fastboot, i wonder if you can get into recovery?
its volume up+down+power on boot.
if you cant, try flashing to 2.1 using the american guide and see if it works. your device is already half bricked, so might as well give it a shot.
http://android.modaco.com/content-p...-devices-download-here/page/180/#entry1376331
theres also a few recoveries you can try, but the stock one wont do you any good since you dont have the baseband 51 rom.
Thanks for the link - but same results unfortunately
Pressing up+down on power on takes me to a menu which says:
1) factory reset
2) update from .zip (NOTE: not pkg)
3) reboot
When pressing the second option the screen goes blank (I'm assuming it's trying to launch recovery) and depending on what recovery I've flashed it either goes to fastboot mode or the two icons start flashing on/off then stop altogether. It's never gone to a proper recovery menu, irrespective of the imgs I've flashed.
Anyone has a link to
(i) a humongous backlog of recovery roms
(ii) a set of nandroid img backups for the streak
Or any other ideas?
Thanks
jkbuha

[Q] Dell Streak 5 not booting into Fastboot (white screen on phone)

Hey Guys,
I searched for my problem in many places, no go.
No one talking about Streak not going into Fastboot mode. Had to start this new thread.
---------------------------Here's what happened...---------------------------
I was trying to install GingerStreak 2.4.4 from GingerStreak 2.4.3.
DJ Steve's Thread
According to the instructions, I flashed
amss.mbn
and
dsp1.mbn
(got both the files from the first link above)
---------------------------Now the problem is...---------------------------
Then when I tried to reboot into Bootloader (Power+Vol Up+Vol Down) nothing happens apart from the Dell logo being displayed.
I try to boot normally, still stuck at the Dell logo. The phone never even reaches the boot animation.
I try to go boot into fastboot (power+camera key)mode, but the phone never even boots. The screen stays off, so do the LED lights.
---------------------------The problem I found out---------------------------
I figured out that the files downloaded above were incomplete(due to slow speed Chrome showed incomplete files as download complete).
amss downloaded: 111KB. Actual Size: 15.41MB
DSP1 Downloaded: 250KB. Actual Size: 8.94MB
So, I flashed the wrong files.
Now, I guess, the phone is bricked big time.
I need to get into fastboot mode (to flash the correct files) or anyhow get my phone working.
I also need to know if QDL tool will help me sort this out. It is currently downloading(again very slowly). If I get the answer, will post back.
Guys, need help. Please help me out to get this issue sorted out.
me also have same problem

pls help me out from this problem
Figured out and finally unbricked my Dell Streak
Yessss...... my phone is back!!!
Here's the solution.
Try this...
Go to this page...
RDTK.net
Look for QDL tool and streakflash.zip.
Firstly after the download, you have to get the drivers (guess the problem is only with Win7 64 bit OS) in place.
The same link above has the links on tutorials to install QDL tool drivers for Qualcomm HS-USB Diagnostics 9002.
After this...
1) Run streakflash version from the streakflash.zip(after extraction though).
2) Boot into diagnostic mode (Vol Up + Power button) and connect the USB cable to the computer. 'Qualcomm HS-USB Diagnostics 9002' will show in the port field in streakflash QDL tool.
3) Hit the run button. The process should stop at success.
4) Disconnect USB cable and close streakflash QDL tool.
5) Now run the QDL tool that came in repairtool.zip (after extraction though).
6) Boot the Streak into diagnostic mode (Vol Up + Power button) and connect the USB cable to the computer. 'Qualcomm HS-USB Diagnostics 9002' will show in the port field in QDL tool.
7) Hit the run button. The process should stop at success. If not, dont forget try again and again. Make sure you change USB ports (to which you are connecting ur streak) on ur system too.
This should definitely work. Mine worked like a magic.
As the page linked to says the tutorials and QDLTool versions are mirrored from streakdroid.com. I don't want anyone thinking I am taking credit for others work.
Glad you were able to "unbrick" your phone.
Totally Agree! Sorry I missed out that streakdroid part.
I appreciate your help.
I am thankfull to you, as I was facing same problem with my Streak5.
I am able to use it with DJ_Steve 2.4.4.

but why you required to flash amss & dsp1 if you are upgrading , is it not only required when you are from 2.2 ?

Use streakflash to repair it.Then flash the amss and dsp1 file again, because it is necessary for upgrading to 2.3.3.

Exactly!
I wasn't supposed to flash those files. But since I was fed-up of many issues, I planned that I would go for a clean one starting from scratch.
The best way to install the amss.mbn and dsp1.mbn files is to flash the stock ROM that your custom ROM is based on.

[Q] Can't Access Fastboot on my Dell Streak 5

Hi there,
Is there any other method to access fastboot mode rather than pressing the camera botton n the power botten together??? coz i have not being able to access the fastboot mod by doing so...dell logo appears and says factory reset and reboots. Please help!!!!!
Have you been trying to install a rom on your phone then? I had a situation today going from MIUI back to O2 stock froyo rom, which always gives me grief. In the end, when the phone gets really messed up the best way back is to use the recovery tool (qdl tool), but this is one to use with caution. If your not sure what your doing, spend a bit if time reading posts here to make sure you get all the drivers installed correctly.
To my knowledge there is no other way to get fastboot working besides the camera key.

Here are some links I found helpful:
http://forum.pocketables.net/showpost.php?p=59264&postcount=2
I have also spotted this - which tells you how to install the qualcom drivers which QDL needs. You also need to install the ADB driver from Dell which you can download from here:
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers...ileFormats?DriverId=R291096&FileId=2731115717
And I have used this to get my streak back when repairtool failed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19544875&postcount=3
That will probably get you to fastboot again, from there you can use StreakMod to mount the sd card, copy the Update.pkg of choice ( I did O2's 319 Froyo) and then reboot into fastboot, flash the matching recovery to the update.pkg, then do the vol+ and vol- boot and choose option 2 - software update option. Then, if all is well, the rom will install then the installer does the low level install stuff and hey presto - one working streak!
Good luck with all this. Oh, and here is a link that is a complete life saver when your looking for all this stuff
http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii/
It has it all. Check out http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii/Tools/ which has the repairtool and streakflash zip's. Manii is a complete life saver for sure! There are all the ROM's and matching recoveries in here too - so its a one stop shop.
I hope you get it back. One thing I've found out the very scary way is that the streak is one tough device to brick - there always seems to be a way to get back - unless you do the fastboot wipe option - then it's game over. I hope you have not done that!!
Good luck!
try using driver from this link https://www.google.com.ph/url?sa=t&...wMsgpQ_PiAP-8KRWw&sig2=RYdtwQOsIk10srEObUdY7g
extract the rar file and navigate it once you are upgrading driver. you should see "qualcomm cdma technologies msm" under other devices on your device manager (assuming you are using win7 32bit)
here is the process.
1. device is off. press the volume up button and connect to the computer.
2. go to device manager look for other devices and see if there is qualcomm cdma technologies msm you should have to update it using the driver mentioned above.
3. once the driver were successfully installed you can now use the qdl tool.

just one solution, streakflash. search this forum for streakflash.zip, and you must find the driver for safe mode option to your pc. the driver is from samsung. after you done connecting your DS to PC, run qdl tool, after done, fastboot mode, reflash, then recovery mode to reinstall rom.
what if?

what happen if there is no fastboot on your phone...is there a way to put it back on?

[Q] streak 5 totally brick

I used fastboot mode from PC and my streak. accidentally i use command
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase boot
for the first command, it's well done. but for the second command, error message occured then my streak turned off suddenly. I pressed the power button, and any combination button but nothing happen. then i plugged the usb to my phone and pc, but nothing happen. it wont charge at all. it's totally bricked. may someone help me how to fix it?
You should have read the disclaimers posted on the Wiki as well as in various threads here about using fastboot commands Hell, you could have simply searched for fastboot and found plenty of threads about the Streak and fastboot. Instead, you plunged ahead and destroyed your Streak.
Your only options now are to either purchase a Streak with a broken screen off ebay for its motherboard, or to pay someone to have the Streak resurrected using a JTAG setup. While it's more costly to purchase a second Streak than to have the Streak you own JTAGged, the benefit is in being able to use the Streak as a phone. Streaks resurrected with a JTAG setup lose phone capability.

Sorry for reviving such an old thread, but oh well...
Your procedure doesn't seem to work with my device. Just to make sure we are using the same driver packages, can you post a link to the fastboot driver you have successfully used?
My L9 is always showing this "partition doesn't exist" error message, no matter what I try. Lelus's script seems to do the job and the phone is detected as a fastboot device, and can even be detected in LG Flash Tool (using a 910K cable), but flashing will stop after a little over 2 minutes, because the phone disconnects. During all of my attempts, the screen stays black.
Any hint?

Can you boot into recovery? We now have a custom recovery for locked bootloaders (and CM roms). If you can get into recovery, I would try some adb commands to mount the partitions.
No, no recovery. Just to make sure that I'm not doing it wrong, what is the key combination to boot to recovery?
I have also tried:
Code:
fastboot boot some_recovery_image.img
It says ok, but the phone just hangs at the black screen and becomes undetectable as a fastboot device, until I pull the battery. So, unless the some_recovery_image.img is unsuitable for my P760 (which may be!), there is something seriously wrong I think.
Or maybe I can try the same command with the custom recovery for bootloader locked phones... Where can I find it?

No, no recovery. Just to make sure that I'm not doing it wrong, what is the key combination to boot to recovery?
I have also tried:
Code:
fastboot boot some_recovery_image.img

Your EMMC partition is wiped or fried... you really need a JTAG service or a Box like octopus because your L9 is Hard-bricked...
Thanks for your opinion. Yet, I still want to hear from others.
I'm running into more and more problems with the L9 as their me grows.
-Fastboot doesn't work under Windows 8.1 and 10, but under the now obsolete(for me) Windows 7, unlike my other devices, which are fine with Win 10.
-ADB seems to work, but requiring the device to be still able to boot.
-I always boot to recovery from within Android as long as the L9 ain't bricked. After a failed rom install, during which the sd card failed(could no longer write or be formatted afterwards, the last time stamps of files and folders were set during the failed install) I discovered a problem with TWRP(Artas182x's and Edwin's), which may have been present since a long time: Trying to invoke TWRP via keypress will brick the device!
So, if my P760 no longer boots, there's only download mode available, sort of the final line of defense.
-There's sort of a trick if even download mode fails: After a failed attempt unplug phone, force switch-off, if the phone is in brick state. Then switch on, force switch-off again, and only then attempt download mode again. And have patience while holding down the vol button, it might take up to 20 seconds for the phone to switch itself on into download mode. (A single forced powerdown will cause Fastboot NOT to work the next time)
But I'm absolutely clueless about the recovery issue, for now TWRP is semi-working, can only be accessed via Android, as long as the phone is fully working.
W/o Fastboot, I now have flashed stock rom several times and rooted it with Kingo rooter just to be able to run Flashify to install TWRP. If Flashify is the culprit for the TWRP issues, I could need a recommendation for a better working app.

Tried OMAP flasher ? It needs memory configuration file in order to work with our device
No, I didn't. I have sold the phone for spares.

I never needed the OMAP drivers and tools. As they are ancient, they will probably make even more problems with newer Windows versions.
I could by no means invoke Fastboot on this device with Windows 8.1 and 10, Seven worked. So you had to go for Download Mode instead to recover to stock rom, then root with the Kingo tool, then install TWRP via Rashr or Flashify, the most time consuming way to recover from the frequent bricks.
And the LG Flash Tool 2014 always needed several attempts to get the job done. The latest official recovery tool from LG works in D/L Mode, but will always download the rom image anew.
