[Q] MMS Force Closed Randomly? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I'm laying in bed this morning, reading the front page of Reddit from my Comm Rom Fascinate when all of a sudden my MMS app Force Closes, out of the blue. I don't believe it was even open. Does this mean somebody sent me a text, which then caused my MMS app to open then FC? It restarted but with no notification of a new message. Also, is there a way i can find out if somebody indeed sent me a text at that time?
I have a log file i've pulled from Android System Info and found the exact moment it had happened:
07-26 08:47:08.646 I/ActivityManager(2770)Process com.android.mms (pid 8296) has died.
Previous to this is:
07-26 08:46:53.686 E/Mms/SmsReceiverService(8296)[SMS]Receiver handleMessage : Action =android.intent.action.DATA_SMS_RECEIVED
However there doesn't seem to be any info regarding a sender or any content.
Any help would be splendid! I can only imagine this text was from a hot girl confessing her love for me and of course it crashes my MMS app...
edit: I also noticed this in my log file:
07-26 08:46:54.459 I/ (2770)dumpmesg > "/data/log/dumpstate_app_error.log"
however the data folder locally is empty and on my SD card there's no log folder... mysterious

I just checked the Text Usage report for my account on the VZW website and there wasn't any text logged for that time... very peculiar...

[Q] Force closing of application...could use some help.

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on why this is happening to my vibrant all of a sudden. Quick little history on my phone: samsung vibrant, purchased 8/25, no modding, no rooting, no lag fixes, no nothing, straight out of box...i started getting this message after I sent a few normal yahoo emails out the other night:
Application process com. android.email has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again: dumpstate_app 201010071404_com android email.
Log has been saved. Use *#9900# to copy out log.
When I do the *#9900# it takes me to a few options, none of which I would have any clue about which to pick. Does anyone know what this is, how I can get rid of it? I use the app that came on the phone to access my yahoo email ( the app is the one that has the white envelope with the blue at symbol on it. I have deleted the account and configured again but nothing, I received the force close message again 10 min later. I had one person who tried to help me for hours, poor guy! But I really just want to find whatever it is that's doing this. I installed the offical yahoo app and its been working ok, a little slow, glitchy, freezes a lot, but I'm getting my email without a force close! Thanks to my tmobile friend who suggested the app...i would appreciate if anyone could help me. Thanks so much!
You should look for an email you just received that may be corrupted somehow. If you figure out which one, try to delete the email (online). I got similar messages repeatedly after I created a Google contact on line and it appeared in my phone's contacts. I had left the year off the person's birthdate and apparently there's a bug in the Vibrant such that it chokes and core dumps when it encounters an empty year field. I deleted the contact (on line, because I couldn't get to it on the phone without force closing) and the problem went away.

Click to collapse
Go to app manager in settings and try clearing data. Also, as previous post suggests try deleting the email from online server and restart the sync process.
Thank You all! The force close issue is still happening. I've started using the browser to receive my yahoo email. I've done everything you all have suggested and nothing has helped. Thank you all again.

conversations disappear in messaging after 3.14 rom update

there doesnt appear to be anything in search relating to this so here goes.......
.....im getting sick of htc changing so many features and settings on this phone everytime they release an update. ive got another issue now. not mentioning the dozen ive managed to sort myself in the last day or so.
my text messages are now all over the place. if i recieve a message i hit the message icon on the scroll bar and it opens. reply and then close. normal situation. however. when i want to send another message to the same person either by opening their contact info or hitting the message icon and finding the conversation there is no info at all. wtf!!!
if i go to all messages i get a list of all recipients and the last message either sent or recieved but when i click on that person to reply the entire conversation, 1,2 10, 100 messages that are in brackets next to their name are nowhere to be seen. ive tried removing contact pictures, deleting numbers and attaching them to the contact when a message comes in. no luck. been through the messaging settings, cant find anything else to check or uncheck to resolve this situation. ive no contacts on my sim card just the phone.
cheers. i do need to know if its a general thing with this rom or is my phone just playing up? anyone else noticed this? communications is a big part of messaging and as all phones nowadays seem to be able to record and display conversations with each contact i find it hard to believe htc suddenly decided to bin the idea.
anyone got any suggestions as to how i recover this option as i cant be asked to remember the last few messages of every conversation i have. not to mention important information that i cant access if i cant pull up more than one previous message!
I have the new stock Rom 3.14, and I haven't encountered anything like you've described here. What application did you use to restore the backed-up messages after you flashed the ROM?
fixed this. i had installed a cab recently which disables the annoying 'sent message successfully' notification. but this was also causing the above mentioned problem. unistalling the cab means ive got my conversations back and all contacts/messages link properly. see here for all info and further links... http://www.htchd2forum.com/general-htc-hd2-discussion/more-hatred-for-new-3-14-rom-(conversations)/

[Q] can't delete contacts out of text messages

Just moved from an EVO 4G to a Galaxy S. This may sound dumb, but when I delete the threads of text messages, the contact stays in text messages and I can't for the life of me figure out how to delete them. My EVO didn't have this problem.
This is a problem due to my phone being the recipient of pages from work, each server sends as a unique sender... over the course of a few weeks I'll have hundreds of contacts in text messages if I can't delete them. I've tried clearing my contact storage, I've tried deleting all threads, nothing gets rid of them. The contacts in question say SMS:0, MMS:0 so the thread was deleted, but the sender remains.. How do I clear the sender from text messages?
Oh well, FYI for anyone that may have found this on a search with the same problem. I was told by both Sprint and Samsung it's a known issue. Details on my home page if you look at my profile, sorry, can't post external links yet...

Strange SMS Problem... Random Characters...

Hello All,
I have been experiencing a strange problem for a long time and now I'd finally like to eliminate it.
When I first got my DS5 (bought directly from Dell at announcement!), I moved my contacts database over from a couple WinMobile2003 phones (HTC TyTN I & II). The conversion went smoothly except for the strange occurrence of extraneous characters - in particular commas! I've combed the contacts database on the DS5 and removed and corrected any and all problem entries.
After all this the native Froyo 2.2.2 ('351) SMS application sometimes shows commas in a thread for a particular contact, for example, if the messages for contact entry "John Doe" with number "+1-800-555-1212' is being viewed, the SMS app shows "John Doe <,18005551212>"! If I attempt to just reply from within the thread, I will get an error indicating there was a problem with the number (due to the",")! So, if I want to reply to a "corrupted entry", I have to use the phone app's contacts feature to send a SMS and strangely when my message is sent, it automatically opens the SMS app with the correct name and number without the extraneous comma... If I then exit the thread to top-level listing of all messages, then re-enter the previously correct thread - the comma is now shown! It seems whatever database the SMS program uses is screwed up. By the way, I have even deleted a corrupted thread and when a new message is sent or received, the comma comes back!
Before I attempt a complete reinstall of everything and a re-sync with my Gmail contacts. (along with backed-up SMS, MMS & Call Log using the Market App "Backup to Gmail") , I was wondering if anyone else had experienced the same problem and corrected it?
Thanks, in advance, for your all's help...

Text Messaging - 57,000 text messages. Can not delete them.

I started noticing a slowdown on my LG V20 in the last week or 2. It was very random. I believe it is because I have about 57,000 text messages.
I do not need 57,000 text messages. I normally use Chomp or Textra apps. At this time, some text messages started to not come through to me. For example, my boss texted me and then called me later when I did not respond. Screenshots show she sent the text but I never received it. This happens rarely, but has happened with my sister and my wife as well.
I loaded the default AT&T text message and asked it to truncate all converstaions at 1000 messages per thread (I have 2 threads over 12000 messages). It was unable to do it. I then installed Textra again and asked it to do the same thing - it could not delete old messages or keep conversations at 1000. However, Textra shows some of the dropped text messages. The other apps (Chomp, default AT&T, and Handcent) do not show them at all.
My only solution is to delete all the text messages. I would like to keep the recent ones but no app seems to be able to keep the limits I have set on the threads.
Is there some type of SMS/MMS management app that would manually force the conversations to their limits (1000 messages per conversation?).
I believe when I updated to this phone, and I transferred my messages from my S7, maybe an error was introduced?
One conversation thread has a triangle with an exclamation point inside it. Maybe that thread is damaged?
Any advice appreciated.
