[Q] root. stock froyo - Samsung Galaxy 5 I5500

Just bought my daughter a galaxy 5 I5500. it came with eclair update 1.
I'd just like to know if I update to stock froyo can I root it.
If not do I need to root eclair before installing a custom cm7 or other. If this has been covered I do apologize.

Yes, you can root after stock froyo update with universal androot.
there is the best froyo ROM here:-
http://www.madteam.co/forum/development/(re-release)-motafoca-froyo-2-0-9-rom-clockworkmod-edition/
if you want swap etc.

The on-device programs didnt work for me. I am also in the Uk but i want to steer clear of custom roms for now. But i just managed to root it using Superoneclick. good luck

yes... SuperOneClickv2.1.1 did not worked for me...
but SuperOneClickv1.9.1 worked for my GT-I5503_XME_I5503DXJP8_I5503DXJP7_I5503OLBJP7

New Htc hero.

Hi
I just had a Htc hero and I want to know if I can update it. (I'm new to Android)
I know it have 2.1, someone rooted it (I don't know whats rooted) and granted me superuser.
Now I want to update it because I heard it's faster, have better keyboard, etc.
But I can not official update with the update option in the phone.
Someone told me my version of something was to new so I had to downgrade it so I could put a rom.
So I want to know, whats a rom, and how can I put one that's better then the original 2.1.
Thanks
Try installing VillainROM 12 to a full 2.1 Rom, you can also try Floyo to a 2.2 Rom.

I heard I had to downgrade the boot.
How can I do that?
Hello!
A ROM is the system on your phone. You must install a custom recovery to flash another ROM, I would recommend VillainROM 12, it's a good one to begin with.

Thanks, but I heard I had to downgrade the boot to install a rom.
Is there any guide to to so?
And after a guide to install a rom?
Well if your hero is rooted there's no need to downgrade it. It was the newer updates that had a patch installed in it that made it impossible to root your phone was the reason why it had to be downgraded I believe.
Since you said it's already rooted what you need to check for is if you have a recovery image set up on your phone. Go into recovery mode by either holding down the vol down button and power or the home button and power but here's instructions one how to root your phone and load a custom rom

hope this helps.

[Q] how to root froyo?

I put froyo on my vibrant using Odin. have JL5 (from samfirmware.com) and the 2.6.32.9 kernel now.
update.zip did not work to root, nor did that one click lage fix or other things work.
would like to use froyoblack and e.g. axura.
any ideas?
none of the "easy" known root options work due to 2.2 having a newer recovery.
To root 2.2 firmwares, search google for SuperOneClick. This will root your device. The only problem is, with recent firmwares, there is literally not enough space to install root and install busy box, so you'll need to delete a few apps.
but, it doesn't hurt to try though.

Not Sure If You Tried It, Or If It'll Work? But Z4Root Worked Well For Me & A Few Others I Know!! Also Unrevoked Works Well, But Once Again I Have HTC, Not Samsung, So Don't Know If Either Will Work??

If I were u I would just Odin back to stock then root from there. Then install rom manager and flash one of the custom ROMs from Team Whiskey or Eugene373.

[Q] Root void with different CWM?

Hey guys!
Before I get to the problem, I guess you would like to know more about my mobile.
I have a Galaxy 5 (that is kinda obvious since I'm posting here), that came with 2.1 Eclair as stock. I soon upgraded to 2.2 Froyo using the ROM flashing thread in the development section, soon after which I rooted my G5. After about two months, I flashed CyanogenMod 7.1 v1.6 hotfix 3, which I'm using as of now.
Prior to flashing CM7.1, I flashed ClockworkMod RFS version, compatible with my old 2.2 stock ROM, which was used to flash CM7.1. Despite what others said on the CWM forum, it worked. Recently i flashed CWM ext version, which is supposed to work with custom ROMS, such as CM7.1.
I found that after doing this, my G5's root permissions were not working: I couldn't move files from my SDcard to the system as i should have been able to with root permissions.
I think this has something to do with changing the CWM version.
Please help.
Thanks in advance, and sorry for the long and boring post above.

I had the same problem with CWM. Certain versions of it would either soft brick the phone or break one or two features. Only way I found to fix it was to put the old working version back on.

You don't really need a good computer to flash back to stock, just a USB cable. The easiest way is to flash back to stock JFD 2.1 with Odin and then root your phone with update.zip B, reboot to recovery and reinstall packages twice then flash the ROM (twice also if going to JB 4.2). Here is a link for both flashing to stock and rooting with update.zip B http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028 . If you decide to stay on 2.2 you will have to use the modified 3e recovery zip, I have never done this so can't really explain how to do it, here is the link though http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423.

Try update.zip A from the first link I provided, it should root your phone. Then you can use the 3e method. I've never had to do this myself so sorry I don't have a straight answer for you.

Yes I rooted my phone with Update.zip B, it doesn't actually root but it gives you CWM and you can flash a custom ROM, they all come pre rooted. You should really flash back to stock if possible, it's very easy from stock 2.1. I'll do some research and see what I can come up with but stock 2.2 has a bunch of issues with rooting and installing CWM, this is why everyone recommends flashing to stock 2.1 (JFD)
Edit - it appears superoneclick 2.3.1 works for some people on stock Froyo (2.2). Here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146645 If you get it rooted on stock 2.2 you will still have to do the 3e recovery step FYI

hey sorry for the late reply I just used samsungs skies to upgrade mine to froyo just put your phone in kies mode then plug it in run the updater and it should work fine and I got the root to work thanks for the help only problem I got now is making it boot into clockworks recovery so I can flash my room im still working on that ill post back when I can get it to work
Thanks for the reply. Sad news. I used Kies Mini to update and everything went fine until the reboot. well it didnt reboot, my phone is officially bricked. I bought a JIG to see if it would help wake it in Download but it does not. I have read that you can open the phone and do some soldering to get the phone back but it seems like too much for this phone. If you have any suggestions that would be fantastic.. Thanks again for your reply.

[Q] upgrade before root and flash?

I've got a used sgh-i777 on the way. I would like to know if it's best to do the standard Samsung upgrade before I root and flash or just do it from the original gingerbread?
Either way will work. You're going to flash and it will all be gone anyway. I'm told that framaroot will work on Gingerbread on this phone, so if you stay on Gingerbread, just make sure you use a Gingerbread kernel.
