[Q] What Firmware with 2.3.4 and no garbage? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I noticed that Europe has finally got firmware with 2.3.4 OS, but Aussies are as always behind.
Can ayone reccommend stock European firmware with 2.3.4 and as little extra crap as possible?
Thanks
PS. Currently have Virgin banded XWKF3

I have found Cognition to be a good solution. Most of the bloat removed and the rest that you dont need can be disabled with Titanium Backup Pro for example.

yes, i think cognition is the best one. and there are alway updates (rom versions and extra stuff)

Villain or Cognition check out the threads and read as latest rom is not always the best .
Their is a script around that will remove all Samsung Bloatware .

Hi again and thanks for quick replies.
Ok, maybe I wasn't clear enough or I misunderstand:
I was was after is STOCK firmware - I believe Cognition is rooted? Or maybe I'm missing something (sorry I'm not an expert as you can see).
If I understand correctly, some stock firmwares are network provider specific and they often put some extra stuff, which I don't want.
I previously found that Virgin Mobile's KF3 was fairly clean, but because KG3 hasn't been released in Australia yet, I was hoping to update to some European firmware?
Any thoughts?
Cheers
Tom

Here you can find all the official unbranded firmwares. From my knowledge there's no official european 2.3.4 released through Kies. I think 2.3.4 has only been released for China and arabic countries. I might be mistaking. Take a look and see for yourself:

[Q] Going back to stock..EVERYTHING

I have a Galaxy s2 with BELL that's rooted, custom kernel and custom ROM and im wondering how I can put my phone EXACTLY how it was before I rooted and put my custom rom on it.
I want it exactly how it came when I got it from BELL.
If anyone can help that'd be appreciated.
Thanks,
Well you can get it back to stock, but not "bell stock." The reason being that there is no bell firmware anywhere on the internet yet, you can flash one of the generic european rom from samsung but unfortunately you cannot revert to the bell KG2 that came with the phone...
Awh man..
Whyy hasnt anyone ripped their own stock rom yet
Basically... when its available..IF its available. Would I be able to throw it on and get OTA upgrades again? I really dont see a difference between stock and rooted.. I mean I DO understand what It gives you.. but honestly the phone is already powerful enough that I really dont need to tweak it.

I read somewhere that bell has to actually release a FW update before we have something to go back to, i don't think anyone ripping their rom would work for us. Then again I'm not sure, but as it stands theres literally nothing on the net with bell on it for the GS2 so you are pretty much stuck with the generic european stuff.
To be honest, i think if you want oTA updates you'd be much better off going with a generic european Fw, bell always always takes forever to deliver updates because it has to go through them, i remember it took a while for bell to get froyo on the GS1 when it had been out forever for the european gs1's and it worked fine.

Ah i see.. WELL THEN.
What Kernel and ROM are YOU using?
I bought a protection plan at bestbuy so hopefully i can bring it back and they'll give me a new one.. I liked the look and stability of my bell rom kernal etc right now i got villainrom running and it keeps going from hspa+ to 3g etc and its annoying...
Edit: seems to only happen when data is not being used. Makes sense. Battery saving feature maybe? When bell comes out with an update If they ever do, will it also include a kernel update? Making my phone completely bell again. I would like to have my bell account app back lol.

Im just using a rooted kernel off CFROOT, with stock bell KG2 Firmware. Haven't seen a reason to put any modded rom yet, the stock rom actually is perfect, good battery life too. Tempted by CM7 though, I'm constantly tempted to try it.
Hmm yeah when they release a rom you can flash using odin, it will write the kernel, modem etc and your phone will be totally "bell" again. I'm pretty sure you can download the bell account app from market?
Lol I was smart and used cwm to back up my bell rom, thanj god custom works perfectly well

So from your backed up bell rom, can you get the 3 files for Odin out of it? Or i guess its not that simple?
Surely if you root, you flash a non-stock kernel? So even a nandroid/CWM backup will not be COMPLETELY stock?
Why is everyone so worried about going back to stock? Just wondering, because the european versions work just as good as the stock one, if not better, because of root.
The real question we should be asking is will Bell or Samsung release the stock files? Im sure they will, and if they don't someone will find a way to extract the stock files.

[Q] GS2 kies most recent firmware CANADA

I have a Canadian Bell Mobility GS2.
I9100MUG KG2
kernel says 2.6.35.7 I9100ZS KE7
android 2.3.3
No problems connecting to PC thru USB, bluetooth, or kies wifi.
Kies is supposed to update the firmware automatically, but has given me a message that my version of phone doesnt support firmware upgrades. Does this mean I'm stuck with my firmware, or does it mean that I'm already up to date?
It means there hasn't been an update released for the Bell phone yet.
Does anyone know if the Bell firmware can be changed to an EU firmware, so we are able to install custom ROMs?

Yes, it works. However, there is no way to go back to stock bell firmware right now, so you're voiding your warranty by doing so.

Thanks Electroz, your help is much appreciated.
Would I have to flash a stock EU from first so I can get CWM on the phone? I am very sorry if this sounds like a noob question, but I am very new to the SG2 and a lot of this is a bit foreign to me right now, I am used to the rooting and installing on the x10.
If there is a thread I can search to guide me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it, or what I should be searching for, it would help alot. Looking at some of the custom ROMs people are putting out, they look amazing and I would love to try them out

[Q] Stock 2.3.4?

Hi,
I've searched and browsed around I'm sure I'm just being stupid but how I can I find a rooted stock 2.3.4 ROM so I can upgrade my rooted 2.3.3 o2 ROM?
Could someone just provide me with a link, it'd be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Don't know a Stock ROM which is already rooted. You can download any Stock 2.3.4 ROM from here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
You can then go on and root your device from this,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Regards.
Agree if its rooted then its not a stock rom .

[Q] I9100T Telecom NZ Branded how to save firmware

Hi all i have returned to the android scene from IOS trying to work out a means of downloadong the factory/carrier Firmwares i remember from when i had a i9000
It was possible to force kies to download the releasle from Samsung with the spoofer tool despite googling for two days straight and trwaling thru the forums i have not been.able to find a means or even of a download of the. firmware im wondering about
Galaxy S 2 running 2.3.3 gingerbread
PDA: I9100TDOKH1
PHONE: I9100TDOKG2
CSC: I9100TTNZKH1
Im presently dubious about attempting to attain root on this device if i cannot get kies to flash it back to stock rom or even.maintain a copy of this rom
any heads up or advice where to move forwards.
Im hoping the carrier soon releases the 2.3.4 update shortly... failing that i will just debrand with another 9100T rom
cheers any advice for the next move would be great!
I would suggest asking Intratech for it in his carrier-branded firmware thread in the development section. The Voda firmware is listed, so TCNZ's shouldn't be too hard for the man to track down.

Wow on further inspection... thats what i call a Awesome/Innovative Tool!
Nice work man!
I think it may come available soon
I think Telecom only released their branded handsets in the last 6 days.. so perhaps the Firmware will come available soon..
Failing that maybe the 2.3.4 update will be what comes available (if ever)
Perhaps a debrand is inorder...
It sounds like Telecom have fairly heavily modified the firmware which is going to make future updates very slow. By comparison Vodafone left it almost completely stock-standard.

Yes you should flash a stock ROM or AOSP ROM. Flashing doesn't void warranties these days. You can reset your download count using what's called a USB jig aka resistor, So when you break it you can just reflash a stock rom reset the download count an Samsung will never know any better.

Any 2.3.4 Stock/AOSP Roms you reccomend for the I9100T
I was going to root first so I could suck all the CSC , efs etc etc out of the phone

With regards to wiping the counter i thought there was a second counter that cant be wiped yet!

Yup, thanks very much. I'll trawl through that and see if anything is worth shoe-horning into my Vodafone-derived SGS2.
Was there a TNZ sub-folder inside the CSC folder?

Here's an email I received after asking Telecom if they supported it in July (originally posted on Geekzone):
Thank you for your email query and we apologise for the late response, as this needed to come from our network team. Please find their response below:
"No we currently do not have NCFD feature enabled. Because only the handset benefits from Fast Dormancy for battery life purposes. In fast dormancy the handset notifies the network to release the air interface so it’s put into IDLE state much quicker than going through to Cell-FACH and finally to Idle. This can cause much more signaling on the network between the RNC, NodeB and mobile device which (increase in signaling load) can lead to congestion.
We have a number of features on the network that can work with Fast Dormancy and not cause a large increase in signaling load, however there is no current ETA for deployment."
Should you require any further assistance please email or call 0800550120 or *120, we would be happy to assist.

I've used many different modems (probably all of them to be honest), but am quite happy with the KI3 one at the moment. It's giving me no issues as far as XT's network goes, but I don't travel a lot so am not really a good judge. It does give me more range with Wifi though, something I have had issues with on other modems.
No idea on stock firmware. Has Intratech posted a link? He finds most of them.

Yes, it is possible. I9100 ROMs will indeed work on I9100P phones, but NFC won't work anymore... and it sounds like you already know this.
It's ALSO possible you can also brick your phone if you don't follow instructions.
ALL THAT SAID... If you are concerned about stability and NOT bricking your phone, then I suggest you do NOT flash ANY ICS based ROM, as it's not yet been officially released. That means any ICS based ROM is built off a leak, so stability is NOT guaranteed.
thank you for the explanation. I appreciate it.

The first thing anybody should be doing after rooting and before flashing an ICS BETA ROM is making an EFS backup(download release.zip)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308546
and then making a Nandroid backup just incase you need to get back to your previous Firmware.Without these 2 things you could loose your phone cos your flashing a BETA ROM.
EDIT:A good kernel for ICS is LP6 as LPB seems to have more bugs in some ROMs.

Then I went on flashing I9100XXLPB with ODIN (there were three files).., the same way you flashed CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KI3-42-v4.2-CWM4.zip
So far so good! on 4.0.3 , performance is great
got 4027 on quadrant benchmark
absolutely no crashes yet..
thanks everyone for the help...
it seems easy now once you do it yourself..
