[Q] How is CM7? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was just wondering how CM7 is working on the Thunderbolt now. Heard that for some it's stable enough for everyday use. Anyone who is running it, how is it? How's the battery?

Same battery as before, but it seems to last longer.
I've been using it as my daily driver for well over a month now without any issues!

For me it does, usually within a few seconds.

It's come a long way and can easily be a daily driver.

Well thanks for the input, I'm going to flash it tonight and see how it goes

I have been wondering about trying this as well. Kind of new to the custom roms, so I've been a bit hesitant to try something that isn't stable.

Right now, it's perfect to be used as a daily driver. I haven't encountered any issues at all on RC 1.3.

I love CM7 so far. I'm running it with the .627 radio, and it is very nice. GPS does not work though, and that is pretty standard for AOSP Roms. I know there is a trick where you need to flash a stock rom(or some other HTC Sense based rom) and obtain a good GPS lock with that, then flash back to your CM7 backup afterwards.
My nandroid backup (the only different ROM backup I have right now) is froyo, and I don't think it will work with the radio I have installed, and I don't really want to have to flash a radio as well, so I'm not sure which sense based ROM I should flash. What is the best Sense ROM with the .627 radio right now? das BAMF?

Everything seems to be working for me and has been working good for about two weeks. I did the sense gps lock trick before flashing CM7. I have the latest radio installed and used bamfs to get gps to lock.

[Q] what is the best Gingerbread 2.3 Rom (so far) for vibrant?

Flashable please
Cm7.
No doubt.
If you needed gps there is new I've out I can't remember name but it says jvp on title
Miui made me love my phone again.
simply honey 3.6... that rom is the smoothedt of all in all ways.. browser is as smooth as iphone 4 and is fully capable of playing back 720p flash videos because its a hardware accelerated rom.. also you can downgrade without using odin but by just simply using sgs kernel flasher....
Blitzkreig with working gps. Awesone.

I Love Cyanogen, however i have not used it on the Vibrant due to the glitches its seems to still have.. Simply Honey 3.6 is very smooth and will be updated Sunday to 3.8 with the new GPS fix and alot of other option that will supposedly make it even better.. Right now i have Bltzkrieg running on my Phone right now and its to nice, especially with the GPS fix kernel.. but it is probably the least polished of the 3..
I liked simply honey, Liked cm7, LOVING the Blitzkreig with the working GPS...

Me as well. There are a couple things that need to be ironed out, but I'm sure in no time they'll be good. If your looking for something a little prettier then go with Simply Honey.

MIUI us is pure sex.
Flashed MIUI a few days ago and it is just amazing, I can't see myself going back to any other ROM. Don't know if it's device specific, but my GPS has always worked.
miui is amazing. just gotta work out the bandbase issue and ill be unstoppable
I've tried CM 7... looks awesome but I got problems with adding account, it cant retrieve something of the account!! now I have no market no gmail...nothing! I tried reflash and odin to stock then back to CM....didnt work
MIUI...sorry but its a freak copy of the Iphone... dislike
Now Im gonna try the simple honey...let's see....
I say try Blietzkrieg, it has a working GPS. Not themed or polished as others, but it's a VERY good Rom for 2.3
I've rocked it once, but I had to revert back to Trigger/NextGen because of issues with some apps I need for my work. But once it stables, I'll hop on that like a cop having a bag of donuts!!!

Back to stock..

I was wondering what I need to do to get back to stock, but stay rooted... I'm running infusedtheory currently. Just getting tired of reboots and freezes with every ROM I've tried. Unless someone can point me to a rock solid ROM... Thanks..

Install one of the stock roms for rooted phones if you want stock on a rooted phone. Gingeritis 3d is rock solid for me

If you're getting freezes and reboots on custom roms, that to me sounds more like a kernel/O'C issue or maybe even a hardware problem.
My phone hasn't been unrooted since launch but even when I flashed my first custom Rom everything was much smoother.

infusedtheory is a beta ROM using the new htc kernel. Every ROM using that kernel is having issues.
I would use gingertheory or the older senseless rom by droidtheory. Those have been rock solid for 95% of the users. You might need to play with speedtweak, but droidtheory's roms have been very good.
I got reboots on the old radios but the new mr2 has run great with no reboots on any BAMF roms I've run lately.
Official 1.70.605.0 MR2 OTA
This is the official OTA MR2 ROM rooted and deodexed. This is a stock as you can get while still rooted.
thanks to all of you... i installed the gingeritis 3d and it is running perfectly. i don't think i've used a rom/kernal combination that didn't reboot or turn off on me at some point and i've ran this for nearly 2 days now and its been flawless. just fyi to you guys, i was getting reboots on the mr2, mr2.5, and the newer .627 (i think thats the one) radios, with numerous roms. i installed them correctly, i'm sure of that. not sure what the deal was. oh well, gingeritis 3d is pretty awesome. thanks again everyone.

Which AOSP Rom has Fewest Bugs?

Yes, I read the thread about how pissed you get when you read "which rom is best" from an idiot newbie like me. I'm not asking which is best. That's too general.
I want the aosp rom with good working 4G LTE, Bluetooth, Wifi and GAPPS. I want dependable sms/mms, able to answer and hang up from phone calls, battery life better than stock. I don't care about netflix.
I would like vzw/vvm to work but not a dealbreaker.
We can narrow down the choices to mini bamf, cm7, or the latest liquid aosp rom if you like.
Which one just works?
I've been using Th3ory for the longest. Try dhacker's version 2.8
Should be everything you're looking for.

I have heard that OMFGB is a great one, I talked to the developer more than a few times about it even tho I don't use it. He has a long track record making the same Rom and porting it to different devices.
If I helped you in any way please use the thank you button
I'd really like to hear from folks who have been using an aosp Rom long enough to know its flaws. Thanks to both of you for your suggestions. Neither of those roms had occurred to me. Now I have 5 to pick from!
Signature says it all...
My name is Revos I'm a recovering flashaholic running Liquid Gingerbread 3.0
Either OMFGB or SHIFTAO5P will be your best bets! I use SHIFT, and have been for quite a while, only flashing to others just to see if they can beat it!
Anybody try the new build 16 cm7? I'm curious if the blietooth static problem is gone?
Does verizon vvm work on any aosp rom?
Th3ory is rock solid, the other one I would recommend is below

CM7 is awesome on the Tbolt. Well -as awesome as this awful phone can get.
#1 bug - location problem. It is easily fixed but the fix is not baked in bc it involves "borrowing" the HTC location.apk from the 2.11.605.3 leak/pulled ota.

1. No that is not all you do. Sorry. Let me find the link for the detailed set of instructions. And this is for location - not navigation.
Fix network location on CM7
2. I have never had problems with actual GPS - if you do have GPS problems - you know - navigation - the solution is to get a solid lock on GPS from your Sense rom before you flash CM7. If you have already flashed CM7 -create a nandroid backup. Flash back to Sense. Get a GPS lock. Restore nandroid. ? Profit.
Anyone know if xfinity app and hbo go app work in this rom?

Have you tried the fix?
Use Rom Manager *The latest version of my suggestion is only accessible this way*
Look at "Unofficial CyanogenMod 7 Builds" by ProTekk in the Download ROM section.
Grab the latest version (Build 20 as of OCT28) and enjoy. This rom works great for me with Tiamat's latest kernel and the 0906w_ radios. You will need to perform the location fix each time you flash an update but the rom is smooth and gives you all the CM7 perks and extras

CM7 to "stock" GB for GPS?

Hi all
Currently running CM7 (7.1.1) on my Tbolt. If i remember correctly, CM7 doesn't work well with the GPS, so I'm looking to go back to the "last" official build from Vz for the Tbolt.
Can anybody direct me to what I should download/do? The reason I am doing this is because of the GPS functionality. I'm going to be doing a bit of business travel here in a bit and I need a GPS.
Thanks
Any sense rom will work fine. Try cm7.2 over at rootzwiki.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
I think the first rom I had was CM 7.1 and I think I had a GPS issue too. I liked the ROM it was fast, unlike das Bamf which I'm running now. Is 7.2 less buggy. All the ROMS I see look outdated.
7.2 is a lot less buggy than 7.1. It runs great of you ask me. The gps is still finicky but there is a way to get it to work by getting a lock with a sense rom using gps status and then restoring a nand of cm7 2.

[Q] Giving up on ICS

Was gonna wait for the official ICS update for the thunderbolt but after 4months and numerous rumors not panning out im going to root and flash a rom any suggestions for the best daily driver ????
But browsing and reading up a little but still confused on whats available??? Would love to try jelly bean but i can settle for ICS
Battery life, speed and stability are the important points for a daily driver
Whats you suggestions????
I know I'm gonna regret it as soon as i root and flash the official update will probably come out but i remember when i first rooted my OG droid I never went back so what you guys suggest??? also next upgrade will probably be taking the nexus 4 to straight talk but wanna get a few more months out of my Thunderbolt u would think HTC would want to keep the customers that run out and bought the first 4G device but i guess all they really care about is our money.

If you're looking for an ICS build there really is no amazing one yet, but Liquid's is the best you will find with Nusense a close second. My personal recommendation for a daily driver though is Thundershed, or any of the roms from reds. I am running ikream nosense and enjoy it a bit. There is also the sense based offering of it both are pretty nice. Depending on what rom you go with there are kernels and things like that to pick up from there.
If you want something bug free i recommend Skyraider zeus 1.3. Thats what im using with the lean kernel. Its very smooth. Plus there is a sweet ics theme for it. Throw in halo launcher aswell and you pretty much have the complete look and feel of ics and bug free. Everything works perfect on this rom

As was I. I just assumed my phone had aids though since it sees to work quite well for a lot of users
Proving again that all Thunderbolts are different, don't know why, but each responds differently to different ROMS.
To the OP, remember! Flashing is cheap, don't hesitate to try several ROMs before deciding on one you like.
I lean toward the NuSense but battery life isn't quite what I need... <sigh>
Another hearty recommendation for SkyRaider 1.3.
I've been evaluating lots of other ROMs and radio combos. Nothing has been as solid a daily driver as SkyRaider Zeus.
I'm really working at using Twisted's AOKP ICS, but my Bolt doesn't love it. I keep getting data hangs, and have to reset the radios via Airplane mode off/on.
And the leaked Sense ICS was way too battery hungry for me.

LiquidSmooth 3.2:good: with the .19 radio. It has been my daily driver for almost a year now. Way better than any current ICS rom for the mecha. No problems, everything works. And it all works plenty fast enough.
If you really want a solid ROM with everything working great, Sky Raider is excellent. Especially since I like having a good camera and video camera. Nice to have everything work perfectly. I love AOSP, it is very fast, but you don't get the same functionality (dont get me wrong it is very close, but small things like camera are just not quite as good) you do with Sense. I hate sense but skyraider really is a great ROM

I sent you a private message with the link. Not sure if I am allowed to post it in the forum. If anyone else needs it just PM me.
You should check out Twisted's new rom. I haven't had any problems with it and it's the smoothest rom I've had in awhile.
So can anyone give me a rundown on the differences on these ROM's? I've seen Liquid 3.2, Thundershed, and Skyraider mentioned here. Which are Sense based and which are AOSP. Are the Sense based Rom's laggy? I've tried NuSense, and it was a nice ROM, but just too laggy for my taste. I've tried Jesters and Twisted's 11-7 version of Liquids ICS ROM, and they've been great, but I'm having too many bluetooth issues which will interfere with work so it's a no go if I can't simply turn on the bluetooth and let it connect.
I understand flashing is supposed to be quick and easy so just try them all, but it seems to take me several hours to get everything backed up, flashed, and put back the way I like it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have only used LiquidSmooth 3.2. It is a Gingerbread AOSP. Any Sense ROM tends to be very laggy on either of my Thunderbolts. And all of the ICS ROM's seem to have at least one problem or another that keeps it from being my daily driver(bluetooth, wifi, camera or camcorder especially!)
It all depends on what you can and can't live without on a DD. Most of the Gingerbread ROMS's shouldn't have many, if any, issues. Some may be slightly slower than others and look different but all should make a good DD. The current ICS ROM's for the mecha are extremely fast, but usually lack in the camcorder or wifi department.
This thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1905083 has most of the ROM's linked(except LiquidSmooth3.2 Not sure why all the links to it were removed, Liquid is the Man tho and gotta respect his decision)
