[Q] What exactly is PollSchedulerService and Suggestions Poll Scheduler? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What exactly is this service? I have searched and can't figure it out. It is pretty much the last thing running on my 2.3.4 OTA rooted phone I don't understand and I'd like to freeze it, but would like to know what it is doing first. It also seems to run CacheUpdateRuleCheckerService intermittently. I have checked the freeze list posts and they are for 2.2 and haven't been really updated for 2.3.4 yet.

I'd like to know this as well. "Suggestions Poll Scheduler" always seems to be running and draining my battery and I'm hoping that I can freeze it, but would like to know what it is first. Anyone know?

CM7 Q&A

Since we have Q&A stickies in the Inspire and Captivate forums (as well as a few other fora around here), I thought we need a general CM7 Q&A here for the Atrix.
BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS IN THE FORUMS, ASK YOURSELF:
Has this question probably come up so often that there is an FAQ that includes it?
OFFICIAL CM7 FAQ FROM THE ATRIX-DEV TEAM

I know how much people LOVE to post questions in here as if it's the CM7 ROM and get all pissy about how things dont' work, but keep in mind that if that were true and a bunch of stuff didn't work it would NOT have been made part of the nightly CM7 releases. Also, it wouldn't have been released if that were the case. The devs work very hard to make sure most major problems are taken care of before every release, but if yer flashing A NIGHTLY, keep in mind it comes with NO promises of functionality and it is STATED in the OP that it shouldn't be used as a daily driver. So if you have a stable version, such as the lastest stable version found on the development page OP, then post a question or comment here after searching for the answer with search feature here and google. Otherwise, there's a Nightly post section as well in the Development side if you wanna look there and that's what yer using. Most of the time if there is a major issue and you can't find it on the bug tracker than it's yer phone, or something you have installed that is messing with the functionality of the ROM. Lastly remember folks, it's the developers job to make their product work with the ROM, not the other way around. Have fun, happy flashing!

You know what ? Its a damned good idea. Too many people are cluttering the development thread. Now since no one else has posted a question related to CM7, I have one:
Can someone help me figure out what is eating my battery on standby ?? I don't have that power hungry facebook app and I did some tweaks found ( via SetCPU ) that I found in the development thread, but it made very little difference. The thing is, I just have no idea how to monitor what is using all the power. How did they figure out that facebook was causing a big drain ?
Do you use google latitude?
A very good thing is use BetterBatteryStats to really understand where the CPU is being keept awake. The embed battery stats for example only showed me Android OS as a culprit, but gave me no further details..
my 2 cents
i have heard CPU Spy is great for figuring out whats using up your resources. dont know as i tend to get pretty good battery life (16+ hours with exchange push enabled)
Thanks for the tips. Yes, I do/have used latitude. I'll put an end to that and give those apps a try. Will report back!

Had anyone else had trouble getting the hbogo app to work on CM7? I can login and try to play a video but get audio with no video. The hbogo splash screen plays perfectly when playing a video for the first time.
Edit: Just found a bug report for this exact issue. (issue 163, sorry, I can't post links.)

When I receive a call, my phone goes to a lock screen, I have to swipe the lock screen to answer. On stock, when I got a call, the screen woke up in the dialer app and all I had to do was press the answer button. For the life of me I can't seem to find a setting to change this, any input appreciated.

Do you by chance have Tango installed? I had it for all of 2 days and noticed my battery died about twice as fast as it normally would. I usually get a good 16+ hours easy with moderate use but was only getting about 9 with the same usage. Did a quick google search and verified tango was the culprit. Uninstalled and back to normal. I don't know if this applies to any other video call apps but might be worth looking into.

Think I already read something about it, but cannot find right now... What's the deal with /mnt/emmc and /sdcard in cm7 ? Is it possible to get it back like the stock rom ?
I am having problems using Titanium and taking screenshots, think it is something related...
Thanks in advance!
Wifi connectivity drives me nuts on cm7. Had to turn it off and on in order to connect. Someone mentioned to edit propbuild. Idk what that means.

You need to go into Setting/CyanogenMod settings/Application, check "Use internal storage" then reboot your phone and it should be back to how it was before.
Betterbatterystats seems to have found some interesting things. Phone on for 1hr and ten minutes.
Under partial wakelocks:
Lightflow: 1hr10m3s
AlarmManager: 58m13s
JuiceDefender:55m44s
There is more ( I can provide screenshot if required ), but those are the top three.
I do find this a little odd. Juice defender was just installed the other day and I can't see how it would cause any problems. Battery was a bit crappy before and didn't get any better/worse. I froze lightflow the other day and battery drain was about the same.
filthyfnj24: Nope no Tango.
I can provide a list of apps if would help as well.
I got watchdog and Im able to detect what cause battery drain while on standby. Its the "suspend" service running on the background with 90% cpu usage ... as soon as I heard the warning from watchdog, I wake my phone and that "suspend" stop immidately. Happen to me since I got this rom cm7. It didn't happen before on alien...

I as well am having problems with Suspend and abnormally high sensor usage.

EDIT: upon further investigation I have narrowed down AlarmManager as causing a lot of partial wake locks, but I dont have any alarms set and have not synced my calendar and have the Calendar alerts turned off. However Suspend is showing as a problem as well.
I'm using BetterBatteryStats, SpareParts, and the stock battery manager to try and track this down.
Well, after eliminating Lightflow and turning off Beautiful Widgets small weather, things are improving. Instead of losing 5% per hour on standby, it is now down to about 3%. Juice defender and Alarm manager are still at the top of the list, In 2hrs and 18min I have:
Alarm manager 33m12s
Juice defender 27m56s
So, Juice Defender is next on the list. The funny part is I know that CM7 is causing this. Battery used to last near forever on standby.
Great idea... Stickied. You may also want to check out the atrix-dev-team FAQ and consider suggesting Q/A posts from this thread or links to other posts in other threads, for updates to that FAQ.
Ever since I upgraded from pre-beta 4 to Beta, my phone has had two horizontal deadzone lines on the touchscreen. This persists from ROM to ROM, and is getting to be annoying. I have no warranty, as I bought the phone from a guy who won it in a contest, unlocked it and brought it to another carrier.
Is there any chance that this is a software issue, and can be repaired?
I got it !!!!
Alarm Manager is no longer a problem. Phone now sleeping correctly. I disabled background date, topped off the battery and verified via Betterbatterystats. Now if we could disable background data while it sleeps and re-enable it when you wake it up then we'd be set.

[Q] Noob Question; Tunewiki keeping TB awake, low battery problems

Hello, I hope someone here can help me with my problem, since like a month ago I noticed my battery wasn't lasting at all... even worse than before.
SO i began to investigate and noticed my awake time was the same as my Up time. After searching online I found spare parts. (I am a noob, lol to put it bluntly, RUNNING STOCK)
It let me know that Tune Wiki was keeping my phone awake the whole time.
Since its a app i wasnt able to uninstall i simply uninstalled the update... and that did the trick.
It worked up until last night...
when i updated to GingerBread... Which permanently gave me the updated TuneWiki.
Now i looked into the fact that spare parts doesnt work with GB so i installed BetterBatteryStats (which gives me the battery history like SpareParts)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
Now this app tells me the same thing, that TuneWiki is the app keeping my phone awake.
since this is not a widespread problem im assuming another app i have installed is interfering with tunewiki making it bahave oddly.
Is there anything i could do aside from resetting to factory? (since GB is pulled) Again i am a huge noob, and running stock, and dont plan to root at all. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Doing a factory reset won't get rid of gingerbread.

Auto-shut off at x% battery DOES NOT happen

Hello. My dell streak 5 won't shut down before the battery gets too low. It used to shut off automatically when the battery % got too low. The battery itself is good. I had Batteries Plus run their diagnostic on it. Its actually in excellent shape.
This problem was noticed the same time that I noticed the device didn't charge when turned off. I had an earlier post about that subject, and totally forgot to add this symptom of the problem. In that earlier post (Q&A titled something like "won't charge when turned off") most of you wonderfully helpful folks deduced the problem must be with the cable or the port.
However, with this new information, is there new possible solutions?
If I remember correctly, the only changes were simple updates to apps (some of which were busybox and other root apps) and possibly tinkering with froyo home switcher, launcher 7, and adw launcher.
I'm sorry I forgot this important detail in my earlier posts. I haven't even been smoking! Lol. I don't know why I spaced.

More than 100 views, but no reply. I'm thankful for the activity on this forum. It may be this issue was discussed in a sticky or answered previously. I'll search again.
Did you use stock battery or extended battery?
If I use extended battery, when battery on 1% it still can run about 10 hours more before shut down itself. You can fix it by flash nop dsc kernel with mugen power option.

I am using stock battery. I am using stock/official AT&T 2.2 froyo. The only tinkering I've done is gingerbreak to root and added some root required apps like superuser, busybox, titanium backup, etc. I listed them all in a previous post.
I am really suspect of the busybox program. It's way over my head. I try not to do anything to it, but I updated it once and I remember a warning message that said to not mess with it if I didn't know a lot. And, I don't know a lot. But, I may have done something to busbox anyway becausr it ran for a little while, then went back to the menu screen. But, maybe that was just part of the update process.
I'mThinking of starting over. But, I haven't researched it yet. I know there is a thread/sticky to tell me how to get back to the very beginning. I would like the streak to be rooted, but with everything else start point. Then, I'll install titanium and starrt deleting bloat apps.
I wonder if the very few root apps I use even needs busybox?
Thank you so much for your help, guys. It's awesome that an older device has such an active community.

[Q] Suspend and event/0 battery drain

I know I know there is a million threads on this. I've read about all of them.
Basically just rooted yesterday with sickins kernal. (US Cellular GS2 SCH R760 2.3.6) rooting went fine. after messing around I looked at battery usage and see Android OS using 57%. After using watchdog I noticed suspend and events/0 to be the culprits. I'm not sure though. I'm new to this. Any ways I flashed droidz's kernel tonight just to see if that made a difference or not. But it did not. But his is supposed to have good battery life anyway so I'll keep it. Any help/input on this suspend and events/0 thing would be great.
THanks.
Should mention even before root. I had auto sync off, background data off. And only would turn data on for when I wanted to check facebook or instagram. I haven't changed any of that. Only thing I did was root and flash kernels.

NeatRom questions

Hello,
I'd like to share some doubts about this rom, and get the anwsers if its possible. I know this should probably go on the rom's thread but I cant post on developing yet. Yesterday I installed XWLS8 on my phone but the result was definitely bad; I had huge battery drains and what I thought it was a media bug, media was consuming more than screen. I tried fixing some stuff by freezing what I thoght it was making this drain, but it didnt make it any better. Also read some things about compiling something that Google wrote on some code for 4.2, but that was dangerous for now, as Im completely noob.
Then I looked for near stock roms, and found NeatRom. I thought it was a good option. Flashed but same thing happened with media, I started thinking my phone had something wrong or that I dindnt flash correctly. Is this possible? I had this same media thing happening on both roms + overheating.
Hours later I was decided to apply my backup and go back to stock ics as what Im looking for is battery legth not extreme customization. But surprisingly NeatRom is not consuming that much; in fact it seems to go pretty well. Can it happen? Could it have stabilised or something similiar?Media has just consumed about 2% wich I consider normal.
Some more stuff I'd like to know: In the rom's thread theres posted a zip file with a fix for media scanner by Mr. Greg but its for the leaked rom. As theyre quite similirar I think, should I apply it?should I wait to see if I dont have any more problems with media stuff?
Finally, Id like to know if there's a kernel that consumes less battery on this rom, I've been considering dorimanx or siyah but I prefer waiting for someone who knows advice.
Thank you very much and sorry for wasting your time.
