Hey everyone,
Just picked up my GS2 from a local Best Buy (apparently AT&T corporate stores are not legally allowed to sell this phone in California).
Anyway, i've noticed the screen has a deep green tint. I've done some searching and noticed that some users have reported having a screen that is too warm, so there was a thread to mod the screen into being cooler (blueish tint)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17544096
Anyone else noticed a green tint? Any fix?
I got mine today and haven't noticed any problems with the screen yet, it might be a defective one....I'd take it back and get another one.
And the lottery begins...
Mine is definitely warmer than my captivate, but it kind of looks better too...
Mine seems very blue. Id like it to be more natural or warm

+1 and the screen seems more dark than my captivate was.
Swyped on my Galaxy SII
Best I can tell with my eyeballs the 'tint' appears to be linked to the brightness of the display. Ie grayscale and color calibration done with the 'brightness' turned way up or close to it.
If I get bored enough this week I may take some measurements at various brightness levels to see what is going on with the grayscale of my particular display. Then again, ignorance is bliss...

tilt
When i tilt my sgs2 it appears greenish on white stuff.. can someone confirm this is normal?
i've got the lovely blue hue as well.... but its something i've come to expect from the amoled series. the screen colors do look slightly cool but i'm loving the oversaturation
But does it appear green when you tilt it?
I just received my Galaxy S II in the mail today. I can confirm that I'm having the same issue (green-ish tint). If anyone has a fix to this, please let us know.
I honestly think this is the way AMOLED screens from Samsung look. I have never seen one that does not have the greenish effect from off viewing angles. It might have to do with the Gorilla Glass?? Possibly Glue?? I have seen multiple Galaxy S2's to include the Sprint version and all have the same tint to them.
Mine is like that but it has a beautifull screen that like and it still is the best phone on att

I have no complaints about the phone--snappy, responsive. I'm overall satisfied with it.
The only thing that turns me off is the green tinted display :/ I hope someone will add an option in a custom ROM to adjust the hue. It's really getting to me lol
Now i think about it my screen could appear a bit blue.. But anyone can confirm that it gets worse when you tilt the device? Pls!!!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Mine does this as well. Going to head to BB on Sunday and check to see if every one does it.
I can confirm the tint on the tilt, but as a whole, the screen hue seems much warmer than the Captivate.
kernel?
does the tint have anything to do with the kernel???
found this on another thread
As I was rooting the device i flashed the CF-Root for KE2 rom and it dramatically changed the colors of ms SGS2.
Now the white is clear and the colors are fine.
I have also tried flashing different Kernels and notices that
I9100UHKE5, I9100UHKE4, I9100XWKE8 Kernels have the same effect, All other Kernels give Greenish Blue Effect.
I have posted this before and it was ignored, I even sent private messages to a couple of the developers to investigate this maybe they can come with a solution to adjust the color saturation and was also ignored.
Anyway, I am not using the KE2 Kernel and my display colors are good and now Greenish tent.
I have tested this Kernel with 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 rome and it does not effect the performance of the device.

While I appreciate that you searched first and brought this thread up, this is the wrong forum for you if you're flashing 19100 kernels. You may want to try looking in the i9100 forums.
Anyone with a white SGS2 notice that the screen is alot dimmer than the black one? Recently, I bought a white SGS2 for my wife and I realized that on auto-brightness, the screen is so dim that it is almost not readable (much like what the black one showed when the battery hits 5%).
While researching this, I found this post. Hence now I am not sure if it is normal or should I bring my white SGS2 back.
http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...brightness-sg2-white-v-black.html#post3354700
Anyone with the white SGS2 can share your experiences? Thanks.
I've noticed that my black GS2 has the same issue, but only with custom roms like CM7 or Galnet MIUI. The official roms seem to be ok with the auto brightness setting and function according to standards.
Where is it made in? I bought my one in vietnam ( made in vietnam) and it is very dark on auto brightness compared to others, mine is black. So it is not a matter of colors, it is because of bad batches i guess.

I have a white one and in a normally lit room it isn't dark. It only gets dark in a room with no light. Pretty normal performance for me. I previously had a black one.
I noticed though that black context menus come out as a light grey.

It's not just the white ones. I just posted a similar issue - got my display replaced by Samsung service and now the new one is dim like yours. Did some comparison with several other units and it seem there is a lot of variations between different units.

Oh no, does it mean there is no point bringing it back? They may just replace with another dim screen. For the time being, I have hacked into framework-res.apk to crank up the brightness level. It will suffice for now. But you are right, the "defective" screen has a very cool and blueish tone.
Hi guys, I have a really general question. What color do your buttons light up? The ones on the bottom, the menu, home, back, search buttons. I just bought a refurbished I777 and they are this off white, kind of yellow color.
Every other version of the S2, the skyrocket, the Tmobile version, has this really nice white/blue color. Went to an AT&T store today but they said they have never had a display model of the S2 for me to compare.
I even got a replacement refurb today thinking mine was defective, but its the same color! This ugly yellow color can't be right...can it?
Yes they're an off white/yellowish color. I agree the white/ bluish color would be way nicer. I've compared mine, store display and friends. They're all he same color.

Now that is a weird color combination lol.
But that is sad to hear, I will be the first to admit that I am probably too picky and that to most people it will just appear as white, but it's a bit lame when comparing to every other GS2 model
I keep mine off. Once you learn where they are, no point in having them using battery.
I leave them on all the time, its still nice to see them in the dark, and they take very little battery. (Like emptying your glove box to save mileage in your car)
I would say mine are white. A "warm" white. Towards the yellow side, but I don't see yellow. I had a Thrill that were not only much brighter they were "cool" white, towards blue. I like the warm white better.
It doesn't surprise me to see a variation. My wife and I had captivates for a year, each got one replacement. All 4 were slightly different. It was the brightness more than the color on them. One of them you could not tell when they were on, unless it was dark. One of them was uneven, the menu was brightest, search less bright, it took me a few months to notice, but after that I always noticed.

Yep, the at&t SG2 has an off-white light illumination. Compared to the Sprint, T-Mobile version and Skyrocket, you can definitely tell a difference. In my opinion though, it's more subtle. The T-mobile, Sprint and Skyrocket versions are a bright white and I find it a bit distracting.
Agreed, I like the color. Its soft, and doesn't distract

Guess I just have to get used to it. I was more worried about the fact that something was wrong with my phone. I can imagine the bright white being a bit too bright in bed at night though. Thanks guys! Mystery solved.
They should be white. I don't think any other color would look nice on our phones.

It's an off white, "warm white" color. It's not obvious until you compare it side by side with the Infuse, which has more typical "cool white" LEDs. The "warm white" LEDs are more consistent with incandescent lamps in terms of color temperature.

at first i was going to say this might have something to do with the phone being refurbished, but then I took a look and my phone and noticed it is kind of off-white/yellowy. i'm gonna have to take a look at some other phones to compare.
Mine are a yellowish white as well...
To compare though, my last phone was the Infuse 4G and it had the bluish white buttons and yes it did look a little nicer, but just a little...

When I ran MIUI they stayed on all the time automatically. I wouldn't have used miui for so long if they didn't. I don't remember there being a setting for it, and I can't imagine the setting carrying over from stock ROM that was installed before. I'm running ICScreweD now, so I can't verify in the settings. IIRC there was a few posts in the MIUI thread asking how to not have them on all the time, but no way to change that.

Anyone noticed that S3 when used with a black wallpaper, its not totally black? Seems that the backlight is still on for blacks compared to S2 which is totally black.
S3 seems kinda grey with black...almost LCD like kinda black.
Do have a try in a dark room. I was surprised. Maybe you too
Will be interested to try this, that slightly greyish hue to blacks was one of the things I disliked about the Nexus screen.
....
I'll be happy with my screen...because it is beautiful and big.... sorry you guys need to find every reason to b*tch about an amazing phone ... I don't examine my phones screen while it shows complete white or black screens in the dark ... I use it and watch people marvel at it.

It's called being critical. There are a number of things I dislike about my One X. No phone is perfect and if we're not critical and express our dislikes, chances are HTC/Samsung may not fix them with software updates/newer models.
I'm more interested in the potential black clipping issues like on the Galaxy Note. That was unacceptable.

The true test is to turn off the lights and pull up your contact list. The background should be as black as night. If it is, then your wallpaper isn't really black -- find a better one.

just checking if anyone have the same experience.
Both my galaxy s and my s 2 never goes completely black if I watch them in complete darkness. Even when the phone is shutting down and doesn't display anything at all. And strangely enough they emit around the same brightness level. As the phones turn of completely, the hue disappears. Even black areas are being powered and I think it's by design. Or maybe slight component variations.

Do the following and u will see the blotches or black ink drops.
I posted this on the sgs 3 in pakistan thread and one person confirmed the issue :
"Download Paint Pro its free and open a black background which covers whole the screen and then go in a dark room.... Can u tell me if there are any black blotches on screen example the screen will be in two tones of black or is it perfect black... this was an issue with two sgs2 which i had and also with galaxy nexus... The resaon its an issue because when u r browsing the web say late at night with screen filter enabled u can actually see the black blotches...."
Secondly the issue was only in sgs 2, note and galaxy nexus...have owned all these mobile.. its not really a big issue just was annoying sometimes... sgs 1 had no such issue

I got my GS3 A few days ago and i noticed the screen look awfully warm, so i thought it was just samsung color calibration. But when i tilt the phone in any angle from a normal viewing angle the screen temperature goes warm to cold. Has anyone had a similar experience?
Same exact problem here man. I've posted a few threads about it but I figured I was alone since no one replied. My room step s3 is yellow as well. I'm on my 3rd and they have all been the same.

upgrading from the gs II, I picked up my gsIII last week and noticed the warmer color...especially on a white background. The warm white reminds me of LCD instead of OLED... i was thinking Samsung duped us and swapped LCD for OLED.
Since the color becomes cooler when you change the viewing angle, i'm thinking it might be a tint in the screen glass or digitizer to give that warmer color when viewing straight on. Personally, I prefer whiter whites but it seems most smart phone users, especially iphone users, are used to/prefer a warmer white screen so maybe Sammy is trying to appeal to the masses used to a LCD look
I hate it, especially coming from the GS2. Looking at it from an angle the screen looks perfect, WHY SAMSUNG WHYYYYYYYYYY:crying:

Well...coming from a Galaxy Note - which was WAY too 'cool' of a tint (to where it was almost green) - I am thrilled to have a warmer white with the S3!
But I have also spent the last many years as a video/TV "purest" and have my home theater stuff professionally calibrated. Warm (reddish) whites are much more accurate and are actually the NTSC standard (6500k).
I too noticed and hence this thread
