3D using MHL adapter - HTC EVO 3D

I've been reading.on here that some folks can't see their 3D content on their 3D tvs using and MHL adapter. Well I will say that is false!! I have the Samsung MHL adapter that comes with the infuse 4G. And I have the LG 47LW5600 3D t.v. its a newer model that uses passive glasses instead of active. It works flawlessly. Just watched all my 3D content, it even automagically sensed the 3D content and switched.

I tried my Evo 3D connected to an active shutter glasses 3d TV with the official htc mhl adapter and it wouldn't play the 3d movies or the 3d pictures.

I have he T-Mobile MHL Adapter and a 2011 Samsung TV and 3D works great. the TV dosn't detect it as 3D but if I press the 3D button, it looks fantastic with glasses.

Hello guys, I was using and everything was ok but now it's like disabled and I do not show anything on screen, tips on how to handle the power of the hdmi out?
sorry my english

It works great with the passive toshiba 3D TV in my bedroom.

I think it would be useful when u write if u used a "passive 3d" or a TV with shutter 3d.
And also which MHL-Adapter u have...i want to buy both (MHL and TV) and it would be a nice thing when also 3d from my evo will work there

LG cinema3d passive monitor
had no luck with 3d on two separate monprice adapters.
Having limited success with new samsung galaxy 3 mhl adapter.
But after a brief time, the screen goes blank but doesn't say not connected just blank.
I'm on an ICS sense 3.6 - common v.2.0 final.
the output to the display in 2d mode seems incredible pixelated.
I remember there have been options in past roms to change output to TV format to force 720p... but not seeing that anywhere on this rom.
Wish there was a way to force 1080p.
OH well, anyone have any advice? Best Rom apps combo ya'll have found to both capture and display 3d videos and photos on passive 3d tvs via MHL?
Thank you very much.
best,
Frank

[Q] HDMI Out cable?

I've searched Amazon for the HDMI out cable (mini-usb to HDMI) and it came up with a lot of EVO 4G compatible ones, will that one work or not? I recall viewing a video review saying the hdmi cable for the EVO 4G isn't compatible with the 3D Evo, but I could be mistaken.
You NEED a micro-usb to hdmi cable. the ones for the evo 4g are JUST mini-HDMI to regular HDMI. Check the HTC website or wait until after the 3D comes out; there should be plenty coming out (it might even be included when you buy the phone?)

I have a Micro-HDMI for my EVO. I haven't read what size the port on the 3D is so I can't say for sure. From Monoprice you could buy both and still pay less than you would buying from Sprint or HTC.
Edit: Apparently according to this it doesn't have one, it uses some different method of USB to HDMI

It's a Micro USB to HDMI connection. The biggest benefit is that it charges your phone while connected. Biggest drawback, your TV has to have compatibility built into it.

All TVs that have HDMI input (basically all of them now) support it.
Actually, no tv's support mhl right now, but they will be able to do hdmi out with the cable, but just not charge at the same time, but htc also said they have an adapter to charge while doing hdmi out

Sorry, I should have clarified. You're right. I was just talking about video out from the phone to the TV. The charging stuff, I'm not sure about.
Your tv will support it, you will have a dongle that attaches to from the micro usb to the mini HDMI port that provides function to the TV. Its called MHL technology and its very exciting. Charging your phone while you watch movies on your phone on your LCD or LED television is awesome. There are many, many functions for this technology and they are just starting to test what it is we really need to get this working without the dongle that is required without the TV or monitor needing the technology. Youtube MHL Technology and you will find your answer.
Just read in one of the links in this post that mhl does not support 3d...so how do u output 3d video to a 3d tv?

Still learning about this myself but from what I've read with mhl v.1.0 you can't, it doesn't support it. I don't know if the port will eventually be able to support it with later versions of the standard. Also, if you buy a cable when they're first available it's possible they'll only support 1.0 and you might need a new cable when later revisions of the standard are finalized to support the new features (similar to HDMI).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtwTcnR0hqA
Kind of disappointed that I'll have to buy an adapter for my phone to charge while using HDMI out, this technology is cool, but the downside is that no TVs support it (yet). And I just bought a 42" like two weeks ago.
Am I mistaken or will all the 3D pics/vids essentially will only be viewable on EVO 3Ds? Like you'll see them but they won't be in 3D, regardless of TV or monitor claiming 3D functionality.
So now that the phone is out, has anyone tried out a generic micro usb to HDMI on the EVO 3D?
I can't seem to find any tv-out cables specific to the EVO 3D, so I want to be sure any micro usb to HDMI cable will work.

Micro usb won't work. You need.an MHL adapter. Then a regular hdmi cable plugs into the MHL adapter, and you plug your charging cable into the MHL adapter so it charges while its mirroring hdmi.

Does anyone even make a micro USB to HDMI cable? I have the adapter dongle thingy, but I'm curious what would happen if it was just a cable instead of a dongle.
lol.....dongle
This is a real disapointment. I bought a micro Genie cable for my EVO 4G. Now it sits there wasting away. I can't understand why they couldn't keep the mini Genie port on the 3D. Now I got to spend another 40-50$ if i want to hook my 3D up to hdmi.

Interesting - does that adapter also give you a port to charge while you do TV Out? It's impossible to tell from the small picture on t-mobile site and for some reason the "details" link doesn't work.

HDMI Out via MHL Adapter from T-Mobile

So, I ordered the mhl adapter for the sensation from t-mobile on Monday so that I would have it when I got the phone. Well, got the phones on Wednesday and the adapter didn't show till today, so poor planning on my part. I attached a pic of my invoice with the product number for reference.
Anyway, I can say that the adapter works great and displays the full ui from the phone to the tv perfectly. It scales nicely in landscape and you can hardly see any lag in the phone or HDMI out. It's always fun playing angry birds on a plasma screen. Also audio is sent to the tv nicely, angry birds with surround sound is pretty sweet. The extent of my testing is with angry birds and the phone ui, but I'm sure I'll find some more purposeful uses for it in the future.
Something I didn't like about it though. You HAVE TO have the charger plugged in, or you will not get HDMI out. You can plug them in any order that you like, but if there is no charger connected, you will not get HDMI out.
I'm sure someone will fix this once we're rooted, but It's kind of annoying right now. I'm also sure there's a good reason for it to be this way, likely because the battery won't last long sending out hd. I'll just have to get a new tv that supports mhl so I won't have to run two cables, yeah, that's a good excuse to get a new tv, right?
Edit: Here's a link to the T-Mobile store,
http://find.t-mobile.com/controller?N=0&Ntk=primary&Ntx=mode+matchpartialmax&Ntt=supa37117
Pick Sensation 4G and then scroll down to Data, it should be in there.
Edit: Actually, you'll have to go back and pick HTC, then Sensation, then Data. Otherwise it doesn't show up for some reason.

Right on, good to hear that HTC hasn't blocked a bunch of content from being outputted like they did with the old Evo.
MHL doesnt support 3d currently. Maybe in revision 2.0 with "hopefully" a firmware update needed instead of new hardware.
But from what I saw online it should only be able to output 2d.

If your TV has DLNA support, then yea. Or you can use a PS3 via DLNA, too. I'm not sure of the Xbox has DLNA support, though.

I know this is OT, but I picked up a nice media player a few days ago (had to replace my older Argosy HV335T), and this thing is perfect with DLNA (they just call it UPNP, there is no actual DLNA option on it). Been streaming quite a bit from my EVO 3D already with no delay or lag on it.

No, no need for the micro hdmi cable from the Evo 4G. The adapter uses a standard hdmi cable. What you DO need is the micro-USB charge cable to plug into the appropriate port on the adapter.
I have both of those np, got my micro hdmi cable from monoprice
Just fyi pulled pictures on to my pc....was able to open them and using red/cyan glasses to view on 2d monitor and 2d panisonic plasma worked great....havn't played with video yet...will keep you updated
Just literally got mine in the mail. Didn't think T-Mobile would ship it via parcel post with $5.99 standard shipping (I expected at least first class. Way to be cheap about it T-Mobile). Should have opted for overnight since I ordered it last Wednesday and was hoping to get it by Friday or Saturday.
Overall pretty impressive. NetFlix, Green Hornet and everything else I've tried will output to the HDTV I'm a little bit annoyed that you MUST plug in power for it to work. I understand the MHL standard isn't available on any TV yet, but I didn't think power was a requirement with the adapter. Not a huge issue, but still wishing they went with microHDMI.
Only thing I've noticed is with Hulu+ when installing a permission was set to block HDMI, but since I am not able to stream any videos because of an "incompatible device" I can't test it. Can't wait for root though so I can really have fun with CM7 and HDMI mirroring

MHL video

I seem to have a weird problem with the 3VO. I got an MHL adapter for it, and it work great with a samsung 3d tv. The problem is. When i connect it to my Sanyo tv. It only has a DVI input and ends up offsetting the video to the left and showing this weird strip of colored lines on the right.
Anyone know how to set the output resolution? i have never seen any other device do that with this tv, but to be fair, the only other HDMI device i have is a PS3. Tv is 1080i, but i would like to try to force the output to 720p to see if that corrects the problem. Im running virus' Eternity 1.4.2 right now.

Transformer Prime is 3D capable (HC & ICS)

To my surprise the 3D TV switched to 3D mode instantly after I connected the Prime via HDMI and started ShadowGun THD.
Same for Riptide GP and the YouTube-Client (on 3D movies).
Performance was almost similar to non-3D, so this baby is a true 3D media station.
Sure, you can display 3D content on every Smartphone/Tablet with HDMI-Output when selecting Side by Side on the Device and the 3D TV/beamer, but in this case it worked out of the box.
EDIT: Here's a 3D video showing the Transformer Prime in 3D action on a LG TV set:

I wonder whether this is possible with iOS-Devices
good find, I had noted this back when prime first dropped that it supported it. Now we need developers to enable 3d mode on the tablet display itself. Can you make a video or something showing how you got it to work or showing it off?

Actually yes, I can demonstrate this. I already recorded two videos showing ShadowGun THD and Riptide HD in 3D and will edit and upload them to youtube this weekend.
You'll need 3D equipment to watch the 3D videos, though (or use side by side and cross eye to watch them).

It is possible with a special kind of screen saver sheet which seperates either columns or lines to hit left or right eye, plus an adaption in the gfx driver to support that kind of stereoskopy.
I connected the prime to my 3dtv with riptide running, the tv then automatically switches to 3d mode. However, there is no 3d effect in the game. I tried adjusting the 3d slider in settings > HDMI, but it didn't make any difference. It looks the same with or without the 3d glasses. Same result with 3d YouTube videos.
Has anyone had any success with 3d?

IF your DLP beamer speaks HDMI 1.4a, yes, it should work. Mine (Acer H5360) doesn't, so I have to put the Optima 3DXL box in between to translate between side by side-signals and 120Hz interlaced. Didn't try the Prime on that combination yet, though.
@ aMandroid: I had mine connected to the TV before starting up the games, probably they require to detect a 3D capable display to switch to 3D mode.

Micro HDMI to HDMI to DVI Television resolution

Hey Everyone. Not sure if this is normal, or just because of my setup mentioned above, but the resolution from my Prime to my HD TV isn't very good, and is very pixelated. Is this a normal thing for bringing a prime to a TV through HDMI, or
Is there something specific everybody else is doing, or does anyone know of a solution?
It may be because of the DVI, but my cable box uses that too and the picture there is great.
Thanks again for any help.

I haven't had good luck with HDMI-to-DVI adapters with my Prime either. In fact, the one that I tried didn't seem to work at all, even though they are supposed to be electrically compatible...
"Because HDMI is electrically compatible with the CEA-861 signals used by digital visual interface (DVI), no signal conversion is necessary, nor is there a loss of video quality when a DVI-to-HDMI adapter is used." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI
I have not had a reason to use dvi yet. HDMI works great for me. I use it to stream movie s from my network-through the tf201-to the TV.
I do remember, now that i think of it, that i hooked up my prime to a tv in my office, the resolution was not very good. I will test it again today when I go to the office and report back.
You should try finding a a tv that has hdmi input and test that to see if there is a difference.
I'm just happy JB supports DVI. ICS did not and I have a projector with DVI-in. I decided to give it a quick try and it has some rather large pixels. I have a modest projector, so the "screen door" effect is normal, but this however, is much more exaggerated.
again, happy it even works.
Thanks you two. I'll check with a regular TV with HDMI and see what happens.
