[Q] Galaxy Tab 10.1 Doesn't have Automatic Time And Date? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys I just got a galaxy tablet and am excited ! I had the Acer Iconia before but I ran into a few issues with it.
So I was playing around with it and I noticed that it doesn't have the "Automatic Date and Time" option under settings. Am I looking in the wrong place? Because apparently since I'm unable to automatticaly set the time and date, my Google talk chats in the "talk" app have been out of order (Problem mentioned here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6434). Do you guys knwo what's up?

That setting is for getting time from network (cellular).. so.. wifi will not have it.

To set the time properly, you have to set the time AND the time zone. A shame there isn't a way to sync with internet time like on desktop computers (maybe there is an app?).

ClockSync?

What was Samsung thinking?

The Acer A500 (WiFi-only) has it. The Nook eReaders (WiFi-only) have it. Yes, you do have to set the time zone, but apparently these devices have some variant of ntpdate included.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0") also doesn't have it. What was Samsung (which otherwise has good Android features) thinking?

If your Galaxy Tab is WiFi only version, probably you won't be able to set automatic time and data. My Galaxy Tab is 3G version, so this option became available when I insert sim card - it takes time and date from operator then.

[Q] HTC HD2 Time Problem

Hello all,
I'm having a problem with the click on my HD2.
It is a Portuguese Rom.
It's always one hour before! I tried to change the time and settings to GMT Lisbon/London, and goes fine. When I connect to the internet, and update some stuff, especially the weather, the GMT goes back to Casablanca.... meaning, 1 hour before!
I tried to change the setting in Manilla settings with now sucess.
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance
I also had this problem some weeks ago... I corrected it by setting in the data connetion settings the option "sync time with internet" in sense settings.
Also in the start menu I had an app/button which was called "Carrier Time". It seems like it syncs it with the carrier or cell im logged in or something like that.
Are you using "My location" feature?

Hello,
Thank you for your answer. Yes i'm using my location.
I think I already got it. It's the sync time with the internet. I turned it off.
I think everything is ok now.
Thank you very much.
Time/Location Problem
Hope this is the right place for this question - I have a Telstra HD2 and live in Sydney. However, whenever I do a soft reset/hard reset the default location for time, etc reverts to Brisbane, which is in another state. Creates problems with time, especially daylight saving. I have tried changing all the usual options but with no success.
Does anyone know of any registry setting, etc that might apply. This is my second HD2 (previous one had a GPS problem and was exchanged for a new one - and still the same problem. I also noticed the demo HD2 in the Telstra store today was set to Brisbane as the default location (again, the shop is in Sydney).
Any help???

As suggested above turn of sync internet time and set your time zone manually to Sydney. If you hard reset your phone you will have to this procedure again. Soft resets are fine!

Thanks for the advice, I had tried the above, but with no success. However, I had also posted on the Forum for the Telstra HD2 9193 version and received the answer below from Tmorgan4 which seems to have fixed the problem so I am quoting it here for the benefit of anyone else who might have a similar problem. There are so many places that can cause a problem, the trick is to find the correct one.
Tmorgan 4 says: "I think I used to fix it via Settings Page - All Settings (down bottom right) - Personal - Phone. Under that is a GSM/UMTS Services Tab. Under Time Syncronization disable it."

The problem is there are three ways to sync the time on the HD2:
1) Sync with Internet
2) Sync with telecom provider
3) Sync with Activesync
The first two options use location. If your location is incorrectly determined, disable the location service and set your location manually.
It is my experience the Telco Provider time is not so reliable
Yesterday My provider insisted it was 6:05 when actually it was 10:25.... (I now Disabled it)
Internet time / Activesync time are more reliable, if your location is correct.
Disable location service if the phone determines your location wrong.
I do not know, but I can imagine syncing through Activesync can cause problems if your computer is in a different timezone as your phone (eg, computer has London as location and phone has Amsterdam as location)
Concluding:
Four settings can influence time on your phone: Activesync, Internet Time, Telco Provider and Location services.
TimeSync2 PPC
I had the same problem. The solution I found is TimeSync2 PPC

This post fixed my incorrect time setting issue so BIG thanks for posting it, and not forgetting thanks to Tmorgan n' all
so thanks. It worked for me
Funny thing! cause i turned of "sync with internet" and used option to "automaticly decline location service" and yet, my "hour" seems to be changing RANDOMLY.. sometimes one hour ahead, sometimes two! Which is pretty nasty, cause i may have troubles waking up at the specific hour for work
new problem !!!!
hi, i have a big problem regarding the time changing , my htc hd2 goes 1 hour in front every time i make a restart , please help
I am from the UK
Running energy rom
Internet updates the time correctly but the get carrier time sends it forward one hour. It also keeps randomly going forward one hour whenever it wants! Driving me MAD
massive troubles with time in all Custom ROMs
What is the exectly problem with the time bug
I also use Energy ROM from 19.11.2010 and my time is now 3 hours ago
I disabled the 2 timesync (Provider, Network) but still have the issue
SHould I also turn of AGPS or localisation?
is there a CAB to fix that?

Afte reading these two threads and trying out the cabs and tips...... ITS WORKED
Its been 19 hours and nothing has changed and the time is still correct

Timezone / Time issue on Vibrant

Before someone says to use Search feature, I already did that and I couldn't find true solution for this issue....specifically for Vibrant
Why does my Vibrant sets wrong timezone? My alarms didnt set off for 2 days so I noticed thru flaw that my time was messed up. It's set to Central when I am in Eastern zone. No where near central zone. I know many suggested to disable network time auto update but why is it doing that? Also when I disable auto change feature, it turns on by itself when I reboot my phone next time....Can I permanently disable auto time update or make auto time update work correctly please???
Is it 2.1 issue? model specific issue? or what? I mean having correct time is so basic thing in any phone.
please advice!
thank you,
I have the same problem. And my vibrant will automaticlly turn on the debugging mode after every reboot.
I also have this problem. I have to set the timezone manually when I leave my home base (Eastern Time). My iPhone seems to pick up the local time correctly, so I am confused.
I live in GA, about 40 miles from AL and I had this issue last year on my G1. When I would drive to work (away from AL) once I got a total of about 60 miles away the time would switch back to Eastern. It was absolutely consistent. I never figured out what was causing it and it resolved itself after about a month. My guess is that there was a TMO network issue.

AT&T: "Network does not provide date and time..."? [Alternative Option]

I have been getting repeated pop up messages, something to the idea of "Network does not provide date and time information, go to date/time settings to change setting...".
I have not had this issue with other AT&T phones. I presume AT&T's network DOES provide time/date to the phone?
Has anyone else seen this? What is the resolve?
Thanks.
Edit:
Here is an alternative:
Install the free "ClockSync" from Market.
It syncs via NTP, is very configurable how it syncs, can sync only while awake or booting up (to save battery), and can provide timezone offset via database or GPS. I have been using it for a few days, it seems to work very well.
This allows us to turn off the network time sync and the clock will stay accurate.
Edit 2:
Lots of apps sync--Google contacts, calender, GApps, FB, etc. I don't know which relies on time stamp. In some cases, the app may unexpectedly alter data based on erroneous time stamp. This is partially why it's important to make sure that your clock does not drift too much.
make sure your time zone is correct because that can cause this.

Thanks for your reply. My timezone was/is correct. Any other ideas??
I was having this exact issue the first couple days with my Note. Had no idea what was causing it, but haven't seen it since. My time zone was also set correctly.
I noticed this the first day when I had the phone. It seems to pop up when switching between LTE and HSPA+. Maybe the phone pings the tower for updated time/date every time the radios hand off?
It hasn't happened again after the first 2 days for me.

samething happened to me the very first day...but i havent seen it that annoying notice since
Mine and my fiancés phone have this issue too.
Had the Note since launch and I got the message for the first time today.

I started getting that when I tried switching to the APN that would (in theory) disable LTE since I'm in a fringe area. When I switched back to the default APN it stopped.
Don't know if changing APN had any effect other than the error messages.

This problem may be cell-site dependent. I see it all the time at home, but have not seen it at my office. This is just one day though. I will keep observing.
I just had this happen and I went to settings/date and time and unchecked automatic (use network provided values) hopefully this will eliminate that bug.
Sent from my awesome Galaxy Note!
Ptoryno worke,
Had the note for a day and returned cause I saw and online discount of 50% off so I'm waiting on it to come through the mail. During that day, I has the same problem frequently. I unchecked "set time zone automattically" and it stopped happening.
I came from a Skyrocket running 2.3.5 to the Note which came with 2.3.6 and never had the prompt come up on the SR but I get it frequently on the Note. I didn't have to adjust anything on the SR and left everything default so I'm thinking that it could be a bug in 2.3.6?
I see people saying to uncheck the automatic Date & time so it doesn't use network-provided values. The funny thing is, the SR was fine with that checked and the Note is using the same wireless / towers. It's kind of mis-information since it says "Network does not provide date and time information," unless the SR was bugged and just didn't care to report it!
I only have this problem when im connected to wifi

Go to your local at&t store and have them take a look at it

I turned off automatic time in date and time settings and it stopped for me.

i only saw this bug while running saurom and just chalked it up to the goofed apn settings and lack of +supl.
+supl helps with location based services which would be necessary to pull the right time zone to set your clock.

Its a network error. The system is trying to connect and update the time and date and it cannot. Its typically going to happen when using the "phone" apn or if the phone cant communicate with the network
yuuuup
I'm going to chime in, I'd suggest call ATT its probably a cell site issue. Does it happen when you're connected to a different tower?

This happened on my Samsung Infuse also. Just unchecked the auto retrieve date then changed it back later. Not the end of the world. End of issue.

[Q] Different security settings based on wifi connection/gps?

I cart my Transformer Prime back and forth between campus and home every day, and there's important enough information on my tablet that I use as complicated a swipe pattern as I could possibly make to keep it secure.
Except it's a royal pain in the butt when I'm at home. I tried both just dealing with it and changing the setting every time I got to either place but got annoyed with both solutions. Plus, with Tasker installed I always ask myself why do something when I can automate it?
I'm just wondering if what's asked in the thread title is possible, and if so, how? Thanks guys.
I thought tasker or a similar app could do something like that. Or find a widget or toggle button for THST feature you want.
I'm sure that tasker could do it, but on my own I haven't been able to figure out to have it change depending on which wifi network I connect to.

I'm sure that there are apps out there that let you set different user profiles. I would think that would include everything.

I am totally NEW!i am hacked and i need someone to help me because at this point its been two months and 7 android phones !!.

Hi everyone please forgive my ignorance of development but I really need help I'll explain ,about 2 months ago I was had I've had this email for 10 years ,I had two factor authentication on .I told Google over a 100 times and a period of 4 hours I did not recognize this device .Now around this time I met a new "friend" who told me to push build number 7 times and it would make my phone better .Now mind you I did not know and still do not know but I believe he clones my chip or something...all calls and texts are being intercepted ,Gmail accounts I create are useless I think they are entertaining themselves locking me out .I have switched new phones new carriers put my phone in someone else's name it doesn't matter no associated emails .they have full remote access and are in accessibility after factory data reset using calender clock and contacts ,I have 400 system apps I can not Uninstall, if I try to remove permissions it just leads me in circles it says other apps with this permission and 20 more apps show up its so frustrating ( which all apps want all permissions physical activity location sms.contacts ,location microphone camera files storage I have screen overlays for network my phone screen EVERYTHING ...why does my phone have a little dot like I'm being recorded constantly ? They take screens hots listen to calls .my roku even says Apple TV. No this guy has 50 cell phones literally a desktop and security cameras but lives in an abandoned house .he let's bits of info out like telling me about apks,,,,which I never wanted .I am unable to buy a malware remover because I can not enter any card info I never know if I'm on the real page of something .I am on some type of Google play for testers ??? This person has Linux and Apple. I currently have a simple Samsung ao3 and moto g pure .another topic of discussion is this .I live at a hotel where we have dish network but as well there is xfinity open signal that has no security and I live by a building of sea offenders in Houston..these guys can be doing anything ..this friend use to live here for a year ....during corona virus which makes me think hes had plenty timevto set up shop ,,,and hes friebd with several of those said sex offenders lord only knows what those guys are looking at undetected there for a while when I would make a call it would say i was connected to a TV. Like casting .??? This guy has an xfinity wifi box that's busted open and I believe he's running my hotels wifi two blocks up the street to him .and I know my hotel with an app said that there were 4 wifi signals for my hotel which it's suppose to only be one .I know this is crazy sounding and I've been embarrassed time and time again in the phone store told I'm crazy .but I know what I know and I'm far from crazy .I have a Gmail that is connected to Google workspace ? Chrome has red arrow i can never update .I'm so tired please any info or light you can shed on my subject would be greatly appreciated
A terribly complicated situation.
If all this is true, I feel sorry for you.
A quick and easy fix.
forget and do not use previous email accounts,
remove the SIM card,
reset the phone to factory settings,
boot the phone and configure it, but don't connect any wi-fi network, and don't configure google account,
turn off the phone, insert the SIM card and boot the phone,
connect to the hotel's WiFi network (don't turn on connection saving) or better yet, turn on your SIM card's data connection, if you have that tariff,
set up a NEW n.p. account on gmail, but through a web browser, not through the gmail app,
if you see that everything works fine and you have no problems, then you can set up a google account if you need one,
NEVER enable debug mode in the developer options and don't listen to any advice from "friends"; you now have advisors on the XDA forum,
never install apps from outside the google store.

Relax, that only shows there are more notifications from apps (well, with 400 as you told it's no surprise).
As you have two phones, it might prudent to follow @ze7zez advice, start a new (phone) life on one of them with a "different" identity (aka account). See how that goes...
Don't despair, it might be a steep learning curve - just come back and ask

Hi Sigmund. I have done all of the above but yes debug mode is always on your right .and it says Rev 1.0 I read that Google released that in 2008 ? This is so messed up that was released in 2008 .can not fully reset because they are in accessibility settings with calender clock and emergency contacts .this has been 7 phones now I NEVER TURNED ON THE WIFI yet it connects without my knowledge I have earthquake alerts? I live in Texas we don't have those lol but several times ambet alert goes off incessantly and nobody around me had theirs go off ..this has been traumatizing I've lost my account of ten years its down right criminal that google let's these thing transpire.thank you for the advice about another browser!
Does anybody have any thing I can download to remove remote access for android ?? Tired of being spied on and I am unable to enter card info due to them stealing info .
The user is prob using remote debugging type of feature. Disable all dev options, run a full wipe, do not restore anything.
If you do not know what you are doing, never turn on dev options

Oi, let's try to break it down into smaller parts (just to avoid any confusion):
I was referring to circle at the end, position 7 - that shows there are more notifications from other apps. (you got that, right?)
Now you are probably referring to position 2, the gear?

First of all, if you do a full wipe: your data, contacts, emails, pictures and everything else will be gone...
You okay with that? I guess a firm "yes" here, besides you said you have 2 phones, so you can try that on one.
To reset a phone you go into settings, for me it looks like this:
1 settings
2 system
3 advanced
4 Reset options
5 erase all data (factory settings)
However, I am using a different phone and a different android (called LineageOS), so it might totally look different for you.
It differs quite often (eg samsung always feels weird to me). If you cannot find it, let us know what phone you want to reset.
After reset, best follow the list by @ze7zez

Not needed, a factory reset will kill that anyway.
PS2: Out of curiousity - how did you find your way into this nerdy place called XDA?
