just wondering does my S2 have NFC? I heard only some S2 would have NFC depending on the version. How do I find out if my phone can support NFC? I am from the UK.
Only Korean models have NFC. There was an application to check it but I couldn't find it now.

If you really want to make sure, buy a Korean SGS II Case and if your phone fits perfectly then it has NFC. If it doesn't then it doesn't have NFC. International version aka everywhere except Korea(maybe Japan) has a thickness of .33mm while Koreans(maybe Japanese) have a thickness of .4mm b/c of the NFC chip.
There are a lot of Korean made cases for Korean SGS II just look on Ebay!

I'm sure you mean .4cm not mm, unless you are bending the rules of space time that is of course, which is frankly 100% possible.
It's 0.33mm ticker. I have both o2 uk version and sk korean version and they are indistinguable..

Is there a reason why my GS2 has no samsung or carrier branding?
Completely black at the top, and logo at back.
I like it, but have always been curious as to why.
Here are some pics. MAybe it is carrier branded I never noticed the "q" thing before which carrier is that?, but there is no samsung.....
Seeing as I have been flashing roms for the past two weeks and no issues, so It seems genuine...
Quadrant=3229(Normal)
Are serial numbers on battery and label behind it supposed to be the same?
and BTW I have a matte screen protector, thats why its not glossy.
and lcd density set at 200, which is why the font looks slightly smaller
Battery and label looks official
Thanks!
Oops, shouldn't it have a Samsung logo just above the screen and under the Earpiece? The battery cover at the back could be easily replaced with an original one, and that icon at back is the NFC icon right? So is it a Korean GS II or what?

My GS2 has Samsung on the top of the front and at the bottom of the back but came unlocked to all networks, personally i wouldn't buy a phone with say Vodafone or any mobile network branding on it again.
I though every SII has "Samsung" on the top front, no matter if branded or not

Nah, the NFC icon is this.
had ISDB-T antenna in corner so could it be a SC-02C? If so why does settings say its GT-I9100 and have no SC-02C branding at back?
Does anyone know what the icon in back is?

Ah, the box tells alot
Its apparently a SHW M250-K, so not a GT-I9100, but still a GSII model!
The Q things is an O for Olleh its KT carrier in korea. Yes my phone is korean, but I took a chance and had bought it in China.
Though none of this explains the lack of Samsung branding in front. Or does it?
(or why my settings tells me its a GT-I9100 or is that the ROM's doing?)

Does the SMS work? Because the SMS technology is locked to specific Korean carreir so you will not be able to use it. If I recall correctly.
If you did a google image search with the model, it would appear that there is no Samsung branding in the front.
No, sms works on china unicom for me (im living there for now).
But I've just discovered some inconsistencies.....
The box says its an SHW-M250K but sticker behind battery says M250S....
What is the difference between the two?
The battery has NFC label, but I have no Idea how to test if thats real.
What do you guys think? (about whether my phone is valid GSII)
Hmm the box has SHW-M250K and Olleh printed on it, but it has stickers and barcode sticker, that indicate SK telecom. Also, I've just discovered that M250S is SK and M250K dentoes KT. Seems a bit odd.
Again, Thoughts?
When I google'd "Galaxy S II" it came up both with samsung logo and without?
Not quite sure
Edit: SHW-M250K is the korean model which doesn't have a Samsung logo on the front
So yeah, it's not fake
The original Samsung Galaxy S II had a different front and a back cover. There was no branding on the front. The prototypes that our team saw had no branding. I can post a picture if you want.
Random but applicable---I also cannot get FM radio app to pick up fm radio in China. Does that have to do with my region settings (USA or Europe are only choices), or is this another inconsistency?
Where did you buy this device from?
Dinghao Electronics Market, Beijing. Which is black market.
I know not the best idea, but It was my only chance to get one...
Anyways, I just discovered that Korean GSII has DMB chip instead of FM radio chip, bummer, but not a big deal.
I can't get to the bottom of this and it's useless to ask sales staff since they haven't heard of NFC. I've done online searches but came up with conflicting information. So...

No, nor is there any plan to produce a version containing the NFC functionality in the UK. The S2 still bears many considerable advantages over the HD, but that's another matter entirely.
Maybe try reading up on In2Pay/Paywave if you're that fussed about NFC though...

NFC is built into the hardware of the phone. The battery contains the aerial.
You can flash firmware that was meant for the I9100 international. You will just lose NFC capabilities.
as far as I know the Orange UK SG2 with NFC is the GT-9100P. they have released a new rom version 2.3.6 just last week.
They did indeed release their latest update last week, but it's still gingerbread. I downloaded the ICS LPS build from Samfirmware. It doesn't have NFC, but that doesn't bother me. Will revert when orange deliver ICS, either I9100 or I9100P.

Hi all,
I am from India and I am planning to buy a Samsung galaxy s2 model from Pune, India.
I have recently read on internet that in India, the Samsung galaxy s2 model available is the i9100G instead of i9100 [ which is the original and better one]. So I am confused, what to do? Should I go with the G variant or not?
What I have heard is that the G variant is not much supported and comparatively less in performance than the i9100 model. I may be wrong and that's why I am here asking for your help.
Please let me know what to do? Plus, if anyone on this forum is from Pune and knows where I can get the SGS2 i9100 model, please let me know.
Thanks in advance for your answers...
Well I think the i9100G comes with NFC unlike the i9100.
But if you're more interested in software flashing or development you're better with i9100 since it has more support.

Where the heck do you get your info?
In another thread, you said LPQ was a later build than LP7. (which is not right)
As far as I know, I9100G does NOT have NFC out of the box. I9100G is similar to the I9100, but has different SoC/chipset. (I9100G has OMAP4430 CPU, and PowerVR SGX 540 GPU.... whereas I9100 has Exynos CPU, with Mali GPU. This is why firmwares are not compatible between the two)
I9100P has NFC added out of the box, but is otherwise the same as the I9100 in terms of CPU/GPU.

No its the P that has NFC. The G has a different GPU and chipset to the regular 9100, making all the standard i9100 roms incompatible.
Buy the IG9100... Will have better support and you can find more help here for any issues encountered..
Thanks a lot guys for your replies. Even I want to buy the i9100 model, but seems that in India that model is not available. And the pathetic things is that Samsung is selling i9100G models in the i9100 box. This case has happened with 2 of my friends and even there is no replacement guarantee at the moment for them.
Here is a website for that reference which shows the i9100 box and i9100G model inside: knowmydroid.com/blog/samsung-galaxy-s2-i9100-vs-i9100g-difference
I really need to check the piece thoroughly before buying it. Anyone know any store or place in Pune where I can buy the original version i9100 ?
Thanks in advance
Mate i m from india too
Don't listen to the fools who say i9100G is better
its total money waste(some games not working, camera problems,no ice cream sandwich,no development, not sgs2 really just a phone looking like sgs2 and i9100G is weaker)
Buy a second hand i9100 or new Galaxy Note(only 1k difference on ebay.in)
Thanks for the reply man. So is it like a brand new model of Samsung galaxy s2 i9100 is NOT AVAILABLE in India at the moment? Even in official Samsung stores?

Exactly! And that's the reason why the people in India are finding it much more difficult to buy the original version of S2 which is i9100.
The shop/mall owners in India are saying that the Samsung has stopped the production of i9100 piece and that's the reason why we are selling i9100G nowadays.
Is it the truth that Samsung has stopped production of i9100 model? Or is it only for Indian market and in the rest of the places there are still new i9100 models available?

Yeah, I am planning for that only. One more thing is that I visited a local mobile store yesterday. And amazingly, they have the i9100 model available, at least the box says so and I have seen the product code as well and it ends with AINU instead of GINU [for i9100G model].
But the thing I found a bit weird is that the manufacturer was said to be from China? That's new for me. I have heard that SGS2 has been manufactured majorly in Korea or Vietnam, but not sure about china? Is is fine to buy the Galaxy S2 manufactured in china?
Please advice...!!!

Hi folks,
i am based in Beijing China and a grey market Korean S3 E210 is actually cheaper then a CHina version (and the mighty Partys love for Google/Play) S3.
But.... which S3? the Korean comes in 3 flavours e210 with S L or K and i really need to be able to use the phone in English (not necessarily the Queens, i m ok with simplified US English too ) and i heard the SLK versions differ in that stuff.
Also, i am at this stage not using 4G LTE as i am waiting for which Band they ll decide in China. so i would for now, run it in 3G mode.
Any idea which one is better suited? If i wanna run JB on it asap since its soo more fluid?
Heard the EU gets their own LTE version with Quad and 2GB hence, o9305 in my line. But that will be around 4600RMB so more then 1200RMB above the Korean version.
Please suggestions... im getting a xiaomi mi2 too end of october but i like the sammis big screen and that somehow the e210 seems to be useble even with MIUI and so on.
I don't know which one, but buy the one without Exynos.

I would imagine that the dev support will be much greater for the i9305, if you care about running custom. But if you don't care about that so much make sure you look at the freq the e210 models use. the reason its thivker is because of the DMB antenna like i said not the LTE chip, Theres an antenna that slides out of the top of the phone and doesnt look good when its out.
the I9305 is exaclty the same size and look as the I9300 which is why even if its more expensive i will buy this one,
Hi, I'm also in the market for the s3 and just found the korean version online and must cheaper (with the 2gb of RAM - I hate that the Chinese versions are all 1gb).
Did you find out the differences in slk versions.
I guess that you can just install the standard samsung rom to get an english version if necessary no?
You can change language to English. You can't install custom roms/kernels for I9300 on them. Though some devs seem to be working on it.
