Failed to move apps, not enough space - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got my new s2, seems like i can't move google translate, dolphin or whatever is movable to the internal storage. anyone have any problems? or do i need to install a real microsd card to be able to move the apps to sd? can't i just use the 16gb built in memory as sd for the apps?
Thanks
nvm, got it to work by inserting sd card.

[Q] Internal SD, External SD and app2SD questions

I seem to have trouble grasping the concept of Internal and external SD memory.
I purchased a 16GB microSD card with the hopes that I can move most of my apps to that card but when I use app2sd I always get the "Failed to move application, not enough memory" error.
When I check the free space it shows more than 13GB on both the internal memory and also on the microSD card.
Since my gtablet has 16GB of "internal" storage already, what's microSD card good for?
Shouldn't I be able to move apps to either internal or external SD storage or am I just not understanding how this all works?
Can someone explain to me in Layman's terms what I need to do?
Thanks !!
PS: I just now accidentally reformatted my internal SD card so I will have to start from scratch anyways ;-)

From what I understand, app2sd functionality is built into Froyo & beyond. No need for a separate app.
In laymans terms, your 16GB internal sd is split in 2, 2GB for apps & 14 gb for data.I have 88 apps installed & it is only using 492MB of the 2GB. Apps install to the 2GB area, but the (and the system) use the 14 GB data area for storage. You can also use this space for dat/files storage as well.
The external microsd slot is generally used by you for data storage. You can use it for what ever you like. I use mine to store copies of different roms/nvflash, movies/video/pictures & music transferred from the PC.

[Q] Not enough memory, what can i do?

Hello there guys,
i tried to install some apps but i could not, the phone show insufficient memory.
So i opened aplications-manage applications and unsuccessfully tried to move the apps to SD CARD (which i believe is the internal storage of phone, i don't have SD Card). I was surprised with this because there is plenty of space available. any idea what can i do? i cant install apps and neither transfer them to SD.
THanks.
Hey, hmm yeah i can see how that would be an issue. lol
But the SD card referees to an external memory card not your internal memory.
You can install a micro sd card (up to 32GB) into your samsung galaxy s2 through the back. You'll have to open up the back cover

[Q] SD Card Issue

Hi Guys,
I recently picked up a new galaxy s2 and but of course rooted it and installed cyanogenmod 7.1
The one problem i ve been faced with in an other wise perfect set up has been to do with the SD card.
I didnt realise that the internal memory (16gb) is actually partitioned into a internal drive of around 1-2gb and an internal SD card of around 14gb
See i have an external 32gb card, but the problem faced is it seems i can only either use the 32gb or the 16gb internal, not both at the same time (it can see both but paths one or the other down a root of mnt/emmc which cant be accessed by most apps
Is there any way to use both? Ideally i wanted my apps to be mounted on the 16gb and google music with its offline music to be mounted on the 32gb sd card?
Is there any way to achieve this?
No?

Say wha?
The internal (14 gb partition of the included 16gb) is /mnt/sdcard.
If you have an external SD card mounted, it will be /mnt/sdcard/external_sd.
Apps using Gingerbread's native apps to sd will always be on the internal sd card, as far as I know.
I can access both internal sd and external sd whenever I want.
I have mp3s stored on external sd, pictures from the camera saving to internal sd.
At least, this is how it is on MY phone.
Hi mate,
cyangenmod let's you play swaps with what one is mounted as sdcard and emmc
None of my apps though can see the other card, except for esfile manager and titanium backup
ideally also for what I want, I need to move apps over to both since I want to dedicated the 32gb card to google music and offline music storage
Your question is what happens already? All apps are automatically installed on your Internal SD and then you put the music manually on your external SD. Not sure if troll or...
I'm honestly not trolling but maybe I'm missing a trick as google music won't see that card?
Also I was hoping to use the offline function built into google music to download the songs to that card so I can pick and chose albums on the fly
Ah, I missed the part where this is a CyanogenMod feature. I don't use CyanogenMod right now, so I'm not familiar with this feature. Can't help you, sorry.
You might want to post to the CyanogenMod forum since this is a feature specific to that ROM. (both the thread here on XDA and on the CM forums)

[Q] Prevent apps from installing to SD in ICS?

Some apps seem to install to internal memory by default, and some to sd card if one is present.
Even more annoyingly however, many of the apps that default to SD card if you move them to internal memory MOVE BACK TO THE SD CARD when you update them.
Is there any way to prevent apps from automatically installing to the SD card? Or at the very least, installing to SD card is fine... but to prevent them from moving BACK to the sd card when you update them?
I've seen this question in 3 different topics on XDA and none of them is answered. My question is similar to this; Apps are installed on internal memory but app data is on external. As a result i have a completely empty internal memory and a full sd card. Tried possible suggestions on other sites but didn't work. Why can't we choose where to install the app data? How to move the app data back, since app2sd wouldn't work on this situation.
FYI, buy a bigger memory card is NOT a solution, it's a workaround for the actual problem..

Looks like your problem can be solved with "link2sd" which gives a permanent option on where to install apps. Search it in Google Play.
In my case (i have three different memory blocks) you have to do a repartition and a custom rom but i don't want to go there so i just mapped the drives with editing vold.fstab and bought a bigger memory card

Nabi2 External 2 Internal SD card help please

Hi
Our Nabi2 is rooted.
I have used the rootexternal2internal sd card app from google-play store to swap the internal and external sd cards.
It has been seeming to work a treat, internal sd card goes from 4gb to 28Gb when you view the settings in daddy-mode (does this even if you dont do the reboot way of doing things).
However, as time has gone on, I now seem to have run out of space on the nabi, when I look at it, the "real" internal sd card is actually now full, with the real external sd card has about same used space on it but loads of empty space too. The real-external is seen by the nabi2 as "internal" but for some reason it must be installing apps from the google store onto the actual internal instead.
Is this an issue anyone else has found? Any suggestions for what Im doing wrong or any workarounds please?
Would really appreciate any help or thoughts.
Thank you for your time.
Alex
I've Uninstalled the app and re downloaded.
The 28gb card still seems to swap ok when you look in system settings but if I install a new app, it's the space on the small card that goes down (this one being shown as external but is actually the internal)
So the settings seems to show like the swap has gone ok but the installation of apps is still going to internal.
Any ideas at all please??
Thanks
Please has anyone any ideas on this?
Although the root2externalsd app looks like it works, apps are still going onto the inside limited-space sd.
Please any advice appreciated
Alex
