Dear forum users,
First of all I would like to thak you all for the help and support, this site has been my source of information for a long time.
Unfortunatelly I do not have enough experience and knowledge to contribute to this forum.
Anyways... I bought a brand new Samsung Galaxy S2, the phone is amazing it came unlocked by the carrier but it has a branded firmware, and I am looking for an unbraded version.
Where can I find the unbraded firmware? How can I tell if it is compatible with vivo/Brasil phone?
Please help and thank you all for your support.

Hi,
Some providers hold back on updating their Android releases (they need time to add their bloatware)... a good was around this is by flashing either a custom rom or a base Samsung one. Flashing is a pretty simple task. I might suggest starting off by reading this thread .... Enjoy
thanks guys for your help.
its a new world and is a bit confusing for me as a new member but i understand some parts and are trying to get more and more.
but what i cant understand is why there are different version of firmware for the same region ? for example : mine is JPKH1 which is arabic and KH1 version and 2.3.3 ! whats the different between JPKH1 and JPKH2 and JPKG5 which all of them are arabic version and 2.3.3 ? and all are official !

Hi All,
First thanks for hosting this forum and contributing. I am an android noob and have recently got a samsung galaxy sii on a contract with t-mobile uk.
after reading through forums i have managed to root the device using odin and insecure kernel and then unlocked it using the galaxy s unlock from market.
The device came with stock 2.3.3 and I want to update but stay on stock roms as they offer best battery life. I have seen the latest firmware available is XWKI8.
All i need to understand is can i upgrade to XWKI8 using the firmware from official firmware xda forums and will i loose my unlock when i do so ?
If yes will the aforementioned galaxy s unlock app be able to unlock it again ?
Many Thanks for your help. I have read so many forum posts now but as a beginner cant get my head around it.
Regards

Thanks for your reply, I am now officially confused ...
Read the following at android devices .com "The best part of this firmware is that anyone with their Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 handset can proceed to apply the update of this XWKI8 irrespective of the current firmware, the only condition being is that this phone should not be a network locked device. "
I know my device is now network unlocked but it wasn't originally will that matter ? Sorry if i sound like a stupid chap, just worried don't wanna screw my phone.
Your mobile will remain unlocked no matter which firmware you flash.

Off topic: Stock ROM/Kernel doesn't really have the greatest battery life. Jeffreys SpeedFrey 4.0 kernel is said to be released today, and has AWESOME battery life!

Is this thread about a badge-engineered T-mobile?
Sorry to display my ignorance, but it's not clear to me if this is a standard Galaxy S2 that has been locked to T-Mobile, or if it is a T-Mobile branded Galaxy, i.e a T-Mobile banner at startup and lots of useless and annoying apps installed.
I suppose the question is, how different is it to root and reflash a rebranded locked T-Mobile Galaxy S2?
Thanks,
B.

No excuse for being this lazy
Hey everyone, this is my 1st post on xda , hopefully not the last one .
I live in Egypt now & my question is about buying a Samsung Galaxy S2.
From my research about latest firmwares, ICS is not yet released for middle-eastern SGS2.
So my question is, am I able to install a firmware from another country that had the ICS released into my middle eastern purchased phone or not ?
Any feedback will be appreciated.
Thank you !

Yea. Go to www.sammobile.com and find a firmware you want and flash through Odin

Oh Great ! that's good news.
Bec. I read in a diff. forums that doing that, bricks your phone.
and btw, does it matter which country's firmware I choose ?
Thanks again !
You brick when you use different model Rom and flash. Example i9100 to i9100G = brick
I9100G to i9100 = brick
plus we have a leaked jplpc Rom, which works just fine

I don't think it matters what country you use. Just don't get the model numbers mixed up

Perfect !! thank you so much for your replies.
Another question please ,
are those points important when I'm searching for the firmware to install ?
PDA:
CSC:
Thanks again !
Hi,
First you root the phone (there are many topics on that).
Then, you don't need to use odin (only for Lightning rom's, but everything is cristal clear with this rom), if you want to test other roms/kernel.
Enjoy.
If you are looking at rooting/installing a new stock ROM/firmware you better check that your Micro USB cable is working properly. A faulty one which may disconnect in the middle of a setup will create a big mess.
Hi guys, sorry to post another question but this forum has been very valuable for me in my job! thanks for that.
I currently have received a phone to fix, samsung galaxy III. GT-I9300, UK
I'm only familar with tablets really, this is the first time i have looked at a samsung phone!
I currently have the following
Phone booted into Download/Odin mode
Odin opened, Phone is detected! (needed a new cable but so far so good)
Can someone guide me to a link to the official stock firmware for this phone? i'm looking but there seems to be so many differerent types from different regions with different networks! 02/T-mobile etc, confusing :'(
I can't use anything custom as this is a business phone, thanks for any help!
I have absolutely no idea which to get!.
many thanks
Go to sammobile.com
Not sure who your network provide is but The link below is for Tmobile UK.
If that's not the one for you're model, just do a country search.
Downloading is very slow, might take an hour or two.
Sorry link removed.
Sign up on Sam mobile or try searching for latest official update for GT I9300 on Google with UK baseband
I am sure u can find all that u need
