hello, i made a nandroid backup of my MIUI rom. I am currently sitting at stock. if i straight up restore the backup off rooted stock will everything be dandy and run smoothly, or do i have to be on stock MIUI to restore a nandroid of MIUI?
Thanks guys
A far as I know you only want to nandroid restore on the same system build especially if your on a mtd build or a stock rfs or ext4...I would only restore a stock backup in stock rom, miui backup on miui rom and so fourth

If you're going to try that, I'd at least flash the CWM4 CM7 recovery and the ext4_formatter_all packages before restoring the backup. That way you'll have the latest recovery and you'll be on voodoo.

story: I was running the original android 4.0.3 everything was ok until I tried to instal busybox and somehow I lost the root so I said why I dont upgrade to the latest version and that what I did but the version I installed (4.0.4 nordic countries) have problems with Bluetooth , camera and video player so I want to downgrade to an older version
Q : is it okay to downgrade
if not I think I can wait for JB if samsung is going to release that any time soon

Yes, of course it's possible, otherwise people would be stuck if they update and don't like what they flashed.

If your having all those issues your probably flashing an incompatible rom or kernel version.
Go to sammoble.com, grab your stock 4.0.4 rom, flash it in ODIN, flash Siyak kernel and then reboot into recovery and wipe data/factory reset.

Why not? Surely you made backups of apps/appdata or even a nandroid backup before installing new rom?
If you made app/app data backup simply restore after wiping/flashing new rom.
If you made a nandroid backup simply use app extractor to extract/install apps/appdata to new rom.
You can also backup/restore SMS with SMS Backup from store and your contacts will auto sync when you enter googole account.
If you go back and forth between roms you will keep on running into issues. Plus flashing stock roms in ODIN wipes your apps/app data anyway so its not as if using the wipe data/factory reset in CWM is going to lose your apps as you will have already lost them.

What he meant was that if you flash a rom with Odin, you don't have to do the wipes manually through CWM again.
TB is a good app (and the most used by people as far as I know) to back up your USER apps (don't back up system apps). After flashing you can restore them, even with your app data included.

Hello guys. I am currently using Slimbean RC1 and I made a backup of my rooted stock 4.0.4 with Siyah kernel so that when I restore my backup anytime in future then will not have any super brick risks. But I have a confusion. Do I need to do a full wipe in CWM before restoring backup? Or it will wipe automatically?

R: [Q] Can't restore /data
Maybe ure using an olther recovery version. i remember i had a restore always go wrong cause something was a bit off in md5 checksum or something was keeping it from restoring anyway, as soon as i updated thru rom manager (or you can get philz recovery) i discovered recovery was theN capable of ignoring error and complete restore.

Hello,
I'm currently running Slim CM ROM on my Xperia U, Unlocked Bootloader.
I was wondering, I made a nandroid backup now & I want to install & test other roms like JB. If i have to return to this current state of my slim cm rom, is it possible? With all the apps, data in place?
& I've heard that on whichever version of CWM recovery we make a nandroid backup, we have to restore it using the same version. Is it true?
Here's my scenario:
I want to test PAC man ROM 4.1.2, I'd be changing the kernel (with it the CWM recovery's version changes), say i didn't like the rom, now i'll fastboot the slim cm kernel & now I enter CWM recovery & press restore. Will it restore everything including my apps, data, the way i left it before installing other rom?
Yes it backups the WHOLE SYSTEM means you xan experiment on roms and stuff provided you don't lose cwm
if i backup my current rom using CWM and i flash new rom and i dont like it or i get bootloop, if i go into cwm recovery and restore my backup rom will i have the exact rom as in all apps installed/ updated and all configurations the same as when i made the backup rom?

Yes, i do think that is the whole point.
I recommend doing a alternative backup aswell, such as titanium or helium. And when restoring to your backed up rom, do a factory reset + wipe system.
Good luck!
You really need to read the guides/tutorials stickied in the General section based on that question.

There are many ways to have nandroid backup. One can by done by cwm recovery. It takes the entire backup including apps, settings, data, etc. on SD card. In short, you can later restore each and everything from that backup.
