Hi,
I've got a stock Bell Galaxy S2 that I would like to root to freeze some of the bloatware and sim-unlock my phone, in case I go state side sometime in the future. Problem i'm having is, the guide that is posted http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&drKey=1153&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fandroidforums.com%2Fgalaxy-s2-all-things-root%2F367935-samsung-galaxy-s2-root-guide-updated-12-00-pm-bst-jul-03-2011-a.html&v=1&libid=1311941723228&out=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xda-developers.com%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D1075278&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fandroidforums.com%2Fgalaxy-s2-all-things-root%2F&title=Samsung%20Galaxy%20S2%20Root%20Guide%3A%20Updated%2012%3A00%20pm%20BST%2C%20Jul%2003%2C%202011%20-%20Android%20Forums&txt=Official%20i9100%20KE7%2FKE8%2FKF1%2FKF3%2FKF4%2FKF2%2FKF3%20download%20and%20Root%20Guide as a sticky does not contain any kernel or download information for flashing back to stock kernel for the Bell SGS II. My PDA and Kernel do not match any downloadable ones. Is there another way to root my SGS II or am I stuck?

You can flash a custom kernel via odin. If your still totally stock you should make sure that you back up all the stock files before you flash something else. currently there is no way of going back to stock for the bell sgs ii

Wish I would have read this before I rooted it. Oh well, i'll deal with it until the Bell kernel comes back out to get rid of the triangle. So far though, it is unlocked and Bloat Freezer works amazing.
You can get rid of the triangle by using a usb jig. Turn off the phone. Plug in usb jig. Puts it into download mode. Pull out battery to tun off. Restart phone. Yellow triangle is gone.

Who mentioned a yellow triangle? I believe the discussion is about getting back to stock kernel/firmware in case you need warranty support.
EDIT: Opps, didn't realize he did mention it. pterry is right, the jig is the easiest way to get rid of it!

Hello,
i would like some guidance on the rooting side of things. with every page i read im getting more and more confused.
i have installed/flashed litening rom.
ive used the sim unlock tool to unlock my phone.
im confused on all of the unsecure and secure stuff.
i would like my phone back to how i had it when i bought it, without the root access etc.
am i right in thinking that i would need the latest stock secure kernal which i would flash in exactly the same way as i flashed litening? or am i getting the wrong end of the stick.
or would i have to flash the specific three firmware (im not bothered about having all the three stuff on it but if i have to then so be it)
You need to follow Chainfire thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Don't get too much confused, its simple.
BTW- Aren't you already rooted as you are on Litening ROM!

I am rooted which was an easy process. I just can't get my head around all the different stock firmwares etc.
I would love to unlock my wife's S2 for her but want to know how to get it back to stock after.
Hope that makes sense?

ok i downloaded

i couldnt see the KG3 one.
where do i find the csc to go with this?
If you want to get it back to stock "back to how it was when I bought it", don't use any KG firmware unless you're from Poland or Brazil - IIRC, they're the only 2 areas that KG firmware is "official", i.e., flashable via Kies.
Sounds like you'll need a KF firmware. If you can't remember what your firmware originally was, try this:
http://fus.nanzen.se/
- will also tell you your latest available official update.
KG and KH 2.3.4
Rest is 2.3.3
Edit - see you've got KF3 - for your scenario, 99% sure it's the right choice.
ok so ive downloaded that one, it was a self extracting.exe file
i now have a tar file.
do i use odin again and put this tar in the pda part?
Anyone??
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
if the package one has one .tar file then yes.
keep in mind you will not have root access after this
Brilliant thanks all

Also after reverting back to stock roms, do your self a favor and buy a USB JIG (Samsung galaxy S JIG) from ebay for like 10 dollars. You can use this to reset the Binary Counter in Download mode, before you ship of any phone for say Warranty issues
I have been researching the net on this and the posts in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278.
I haven't been able to post in there as I am a new user, but if someone can help me with this, it would be great.
I'm trying to upgrade my firmware to XXKH3 - Android 2.3.4.
My current version is:
PDA: I91000XWKE7
PHONE: I9100XXKE4
CSC: I9100OPSKE4
My Galaxy S II is rooted and it's on the OPTUS network in Australia.
My question is, how should I go about it?
Do I download the XXKH3 Stock Kernel: http://www.multiupload.com/C4DRUIJTLL and place that in PDA and PHONE in Odin?
And for CSC do I get this: Optus OPSKG1 CSC: http://www.multiupload.com/EPWZTIMS1F and place it in CSC?
I want to be able to use the OPTUS network on XXKH3, but without OPTUS bloatware. I'm just not sure which files to get so I can be with OPTUS on an Australian firmware if that makes any sense.
My last question is, would this then wipe my data? Or not?
I appreciate any help on this.

you are referring to the right thread. clear instructions are given on that thread.
choose the PDA option.
CSC has nothing to do with what languages the firmware supports and it will not add keyboard language support either.
You don't have to change the kernel or root or unroot to flash a new stock firmware.
You can then flash the kernel of your choice.
If you want the CF-root KH3 kernel. refer this thread
If you want to flash stock KH3 kernel you can also do that.
as far as operator bloatware is concerned search for operator specific bloatware removal scripts which can be executed using Gscript app . or a simpler option would be to freeze or uninstall the bloatware apps using Titanium back up Pro.
Thank you for the fast reply.
So pretty much all I need to do is put the XXKH3 Stock Kernel in the PDA option and that's it. So the OPTUS network will not be affected correct?
Then root it and I'm done?
Thanks again!

Hm. I just put XXKH3 Stock Kernel in PDA and flashed it but my phone still says Android 2.3.3. I used the CF-root KH3 kernel as well to root it again.
What do I need to do to get it to Android 2.3.4? Do I have to place it in PHONE as well?
The ROM is 2.3.4, just about any ROM in original development is. What you are trying to flash is kernel. Best of luck.

Er, Kernel is kernel and firmware is firmware. Flashing the kernel won't update the firmware, just the kernel.
Alright I think I understand now.
Downloading the package, which should do it and I guess the stock kernel is used to root/rid yourself of the yellow triangle.

It went well, the phone is working great.
My data didn't get wiped.
Follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278.
Download the XXKH3 package.
I also used Titanium to backup my apps just in case and MyBackup Pro for contacts etc. but haven't needed to use it.
After you flash that (if you want to root the phone) go to this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 and get CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KH3-v4.1-CWM4.zip. Put that in PDA and flash it.
To get rid of the yellow triangle, follow this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14283369&postcount=2.
That's it. Thanks for all your help guys!
ok so lets say I chose new stock firmware to avoid the triangle, then later wanted to be official, could i plug my phone into kies and updatd to official 2.3.4 without problems?
i would like to try oranges firmware without rooting the device and voiding my warranty!

I have a Samgung Galaxy S2 i9100 from Bell, Canada.
I was trying to root it using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631934.
I accidentally flashed the GB kernel, not knowing it meant Gingerbread. I then proceeded to flash the ICS kernel, thinking it would replace the GB one, but now my phone wont boot, it just stays at the screen with the yellow triangle.
Any help on how to fix this would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Note: I have rooted my phone and installed custom ROMs before (CM7), so i have a general understanding on the matter, just I don't know how to fix it.
Try entering cwm recovery by volume up home and power. If that doesn't work do volume down home and power. Then install a ics Rom and kernel via Odin.
If you need more help ask me.

Your main issue is if you flashed any kernel from that thread you linked, you flashed a kernel meant for an I9100G. You said you have an I9100 from Bell, which probably means you either have an I9100, or an I9100M. Check the label under the battery for model number to know for sure.
I9100G firmwares and kernels are not compatible with I9100/M/P/T due to processor/SoC differences.
You want this thread instead.

So did you confirm you have either an I9100 or an I9100M?
If so, stay away from I9100G firmwares/kernels/ROMs/etc.
I really F'ed up.
I was running ICS on my bell Galaxy S2 but I wanted to try the S3 rom that was released here. (Note that I am somewhat a stupid when it comes to android flashing). I installed a CF-root kernel (phone wasn't CWM at the time) but the phone didn't turn work - it would go to black screen.
So I tried a couple different kernels, nothing worked. Then I went crazy and flashing just about everything. Nothing has changed.
When I turn the phone on, it gets stuck at the Galaxy S II screen. When I go to download mode, it is like usual (no CWM, the standard one). And when I go into recovery, it says "Forced Upload, by key pressing".
What can I do now? I would like to just get the phone working at this point, official firmware that works with kies would be nice. S3 rom would be even better.
Whoever helps me solve this would be my hero. Serious.
EDIT: I am now on clockwork recovery if that helps.

If you know how to get it to the S3 rom (or just get the cool gesture features) that would be nice but if not I'll be happy on stock ICS until I learn a lot more about flashing.

This is because you flashed a wrong kernel for your phone.

Thanks for the link to Siyah, I used the v4.1.5 kernel and it worked great.
Hello there.
I'm in a bit of a trouble so I need some help. I've bought an S2 for my wife from a guy (in Ireland).
The phone was locked on Vodafone so I tried to root it maybe I'll be lucky to unlock it with out paying nothing. So, the phone is on Gingerbread with a BUKJ3 kernel. I've downloaded last night a CF root but by mistake I took a KG3 instead of KJ3. After flashing with Odin 1.85 I got stuck on the boot screen with the yellow triangle.
This morning I've downloaded another kernel as in KJ3 flashed with Odin, the phone is starting but no network coverage, I tried with different Sim cards but nothing so I went in recovery mode and wipe/format data, system, dalvik and cache as factory reset as well. Since that moment the phone won't boot, it gets stuck on the boot screen and yellow triangle.
I can go in recovery mode and download mode with no problem but I can't make it start.
I reflashed the kernel, I don't know what to do and tomorrow is my wife's birthday and I was trying to surprise her with a nice phone but instead looks like she is gonna get a brick ( I hope not)
Thank you guys for any help.

I've had a look at sammobile but I can't find what you've recommended. A more specific link will be more than helpful.
Thank you very much anyway. If I'm getting advises it means I didn't bricked the phone so I might be able to fix it.
Once again thank you.
You just go to sammobile, then register, then firmware and files, then put the info in the 4 fields
eg
Smartphone
Android
Gt-i9100
Then uk/ire XEU (or vodafone or whatever..but unbranded better)
Then youll see a list about firmware version and their release date
Eg
Lpt 4.0.4 ics jul 2012
Lp7 4.0.3 ics apr 2012
So download lp7 4.0.3 and flash with odin.
Then use the rooting guide in my sig
Then do the other things I said.

Thank you very much. In the mean while I've managed to find exactly what you've said in your answer. I've choose the gingerbread version of the ROM cause that was what the phone had when I've bought it.
SO, now is it safe to go on ICS like I did half an hour ago with that Gingerbread rom?
Thank you and sorry about the noob question, never used an Samsung, only HTC.
Yeah just do what I said.......not what you think!.

Did it, thank you very much. The phone start but somehow I've lost my IMEI number and base band. I must be really unlucky.
I've read that Odia can help in this matter but if anybody has any idea, I'll be happy to make a donation for getting back the IMEI number.
Once again thank you very much.

It's always about read read more.... And don't flash anything unless you are 100% sure...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
People contact Odia when theres a problem with their efs folder/no backup.
But you should have a backup and a nand backup.
I had the same problem yesterday and I restored efs folder/restored nand backup.....which got it back.
So try that or theres a thread about "restore imei in 9 easy steps".

I know I was stupid enough not to read before flashing, but now it too late to think about that.
the thing is I've never used a galaxy phone until these days and I wasn't aware of all this things and I don't know how to restore this NAND backup IF I have one, as I didn't make any backup before flushing. I hope I'll get some help from somebody and as I've said, a nice donation will be on the way to the helper.
Try GSII repair app.But you have to be rooted.
