Ok, I know there has been tons of threads on this, but I still can't figure out what is best to do. I have a stock Atrix I didn't even buy a month ago, I want to eventually use custom roms, so I need to root/unlock it, but should I go ahead and install the official OTA update? Or try my luck at Kenneth's 2.3.4?
I would like to still be able to use my lapdock, and still not have to pay for tethering (right now I did the apn name trick). Any help or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Unlock the bootloader and stick to our cooked roms! Screw the OTA..
Thanks for the advice, and I'm such a noob and have been over the noob's beginner guide a few times and am still unsure of how to install the 2.3.4 w/out having to go OTA.
Does anyone know of a good guide of exactly what to download and how to install everything needed? Thanks for all of the help.
You can OTA and then just unlock and install whatever rom you want.

do a search for 2.1 RUU
thats what you need to flash to set your phone back to original factory 2.1 so that verizon could never tell you touched it

I'm looking for an easy way to unroot my phone without a computer.
Anyone know how to do this?
I have a Canadian Bell Mobility GS2.
I9100MUG KG2
kernel says 2.6.35.7 I9100ZS KE7
android 2.3.3
No problems connecting to PC thru USB, bluetooth, or kies wifi.
Kies is supposed to update the firmware automatically, but has given me a message that my version of phone doesnt support firmware upgrades. Does this mean I'm stuck with my firmware, or does it mean that I'm already up to date?
It means there hasn't been an update released for the Bell phone yet.
Does anyone know if the Bell firmware can be changed to an EU firmware, so we are able to install custom ROMs?

Yes, it works. However, there is no way to go back to stock bell firmware right now, so you're voiding your warranty by doing so.

Thanks Electroz, your help is much appreciated.
Would I have to flash a stock EU from first so I can get CWM on the phone? I am very sorry if this sounds like a noob question, but I am very new to the SG2 and a lot of this is a bit foreign to me right now, I am used to the rooting and installing on the x10.
If there is a thread I can search to guide me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it, or what I should be searching for, it would help alot. Looking at some of the custom ROMs people are putting out, they look amazing and I would love to try them out

Nope, you can just flash a cwm kernel and install the custom rom from there. No need to flash an EU rom first.
Hey im new to the forum and love the work you guys do here. I rooted my Photon so far have wifi tether and all the goodies like that up and running, however im interested in flashing a rom now.. BUT with Ice Cream Sandwhich (hopefully) coming soon to the Photon im a bit unsure.. Can i somehow restore my phone back to stock and do an ota or however they send (if they do) the ICS update for the photon? Assuming i do end up flashing a rom, and if i can restore it, how difficult would it be..? Also what would you guys advise for battery life, the Homebase or Alien rom? Its the biggest thing im looking for from flashing a rom really. I just dont want to go through and flash a rom on my phone then a few weeks later see ICS get sent out and i somehow cant update until a dev creates a rom of it. Thanks and sorry for nooby questions but ive been digging here for a while trying to find the answer to these. Thanks!!
You can restore to stock with an SBF flash/RSD Lite - easy enough.
The roms, you should try both and see which best suits your need and use.
Don't accept an OTA - it may ruin out root exploit.
I'm on home base ROM.v1.5 with update 4.2. Not much difference in battery life between the two ROM's and not much improvement that I have seen from stock.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216143 - you'll need to go here if you haven't unlocked the bootloader and flashed a custom recovery. It'll also answer your question about returning back to stock.
On a side note, has anyone tried the Star Wars ROM, i think people have forgotten about that one.
I never did try that one. Does it have any support still?

Looked at the thread. Looks like it hasn't gotten a lot of love in a while. It seems to be decent though.
I may have to look through the forum again.

Agreed... Make sure you follow the steps carefully because this phone is much easier to soft brick than others. I have done it a couple times.
Also, I agree with the other posters, unless you really just wanna try it it's not all that worth it yet. No real big gains in performance or battery life yet
I'm thinking on installing NottachTrix4G on my ATT Atrix. It's currently rooted, and unlocked, running 4.5.91.
I can't seem to find any reviews or recommendations for NottachTrix4G.
Can anyone comment on their experience with it, if you already have it? Also, is there an install guide somewhere?
Thanks
Welcome to the forums! Read the actual thread for Nottachtrix. The developer is very much so respected, and has a huge number of fans that use his ROM, your best bet is to just give it a shot and use it for a day or two to see if you like it. Don't forget to nandroid back up your current setup before wiping anything that way you you can very easily switch back if you are dissatisfied. All it takes is a SEARCH, figured I would be the nice one before you get flamed with a million "Use search!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" replys
Info
There is some info about Nottach Trix on here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1430608
and here:

Also if you used and liked Darkside and/or Wet Dream you are 95% likely to enjoy Nottach Trix.

Link is in the ROM forum on Nottachtrix website
I moved from Wet Dream to Nottachtrix. So far, I've found the rom to be completely solid, all features working as advertised and without glitches on my end. At whatever point he releases his compatible ICS theme, I'll be a very happy camper.
About the most painless way to get up to 4.5.141, I'd say!
Is 1.2.3 the most current Version?
And Sheepacurious, what state were you at before?
unlocked BL?
Rooted?
4.5.93?
SoxFan37 - Thanks.

Unlocked bootloader, rooted, the dev post says Wet Dream was 4.5.140. Had to back up apps and SMS data, obviously, but you don't have to "get your phone back to stock" in order to flash this rom -- just make a nandroid backup and give it a shot.
as an international user (UK) do I need the ramfix.zip too.
The mods havent approved my login on the site, could anyone care to attach the file?
Many thanks

You will need the ramfix and you will be approved when Nottach gets round to it, so please don't be impatient.
I have been running this rom since yesterday the install is cool with the aroma installer the rom is relatively fast when let it settle in

Its very nice rom the wayt it comes and you can choose what you want to add or remove its really great you should try it.
You can also go in and freeze more processes as well and right now man i got about 520 mb free and scoring around 6300 on antutu.
Its not like cm7 builds but you can use webtop and an alternative if you want to stack stock mainly for me its because i use my webtop.
try it it's pretty cool
I thought wet dream was awesome, this ROM is even better. I just downloaded it today and no complaints.
+1 for you to download.

Previous State
ROOT, UL BL, 2.3.4/4.5.91, Alien ROM
I accidentally hit the update option when it popped up on the screen instead of hitting later. Then I the wifi off on my phone and that prevented the update from being downloaded. I tried to do a couple of things to prevent it from downloading
1. Freezing Upgrader 2.3.4 using TiBu - This did not work.
2. Using CWM - Cleared cache etc and this did not do the trick either.
So, I finally gave up and used UncleCemka's guide to upgrade to 4.5.141 (2.3.6) and it was successful.
So, present state
ROOT, UL BL, 2.3.6/4.5.141, Stock.
Can I flash NottachTrix4G? The thing I miss the most is the WebTop over HDMI
Thanks in advance,
vG

Yes. It'll work fine. It doesn't mess with the webtop partition, so you'll need to re-do the HDMI exploit or flash the 2.3.6 webtop fruitcake which has that fix worked in.

Here you go. It's the Fruitcakes thread over in the dev forum.
now: you took the OTA update, which I'm pretty sure updated your webtop as well. The webtop fruitcake says 4.5.140; this may or may not be precisely the same version as your current one. With that in mind, I might try redoing the webtop-over-HDMI hack first since it's a pretty simple procedure and keeps your current version intact.
If possible can someone point me in the right direction...? Ive read you can roll back but I can only find threads with explinations for rooted phones & my luck being the way it is got the G3 on the day the came out with 11C. Thanx in advance everyone & appreciate all the time put into this site
Either the kdz or tot approaches.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2928140

Note that these approaches use different flash tools, and you have to be careful to use the right drivers in your PC.
Once you return to 10b, you may want to root and turn off System Updates. There are some rumblings that lg may make it difficult in the future.

Thanx for your response, I found the thread on how to disable OTA's.. This is a noob question but after I roll back then root, do I need to install Bump!...? N do I have to unlock bootloader? If I no, would I need to unlock it to install G3 Xposed? I want to theme my G3 n having Verizon they went as far as taking out the ****ing Theme option but I got it anaways but u cant do anything really. Once I get a lil more experienced at this whole root thing I want to install custom roms n all that but unfortunalty I dont feel comfortable going that far yet & I just got this phone and dont have money to **** it up yet :silly:
Thanx for any help with this, its greatly appreciated & if theres a thread that woud explain the steps I would need to take and any additional details on them that would be great to get a link

You only need root for exposed. 'Bump'ing the bootloader allows you to install a custom recovery so you can flash ROMs and kernels, make nandroid backups, etc.
