I installed an XO Skins screen protector to Evo 3d a few hours ago, and after turning it on for the first time I find this:
I have no idea how this happened, considering I was very careful in not letting much/any of the soapy water get onto the sides of the phone.
I've installed multiple Invisible Shields on other phones/devices in the past, which is a very similar install procedure, so I know how to do it right.
Anyway - Is this LCD or Digitizer damage?
Is there any chance it will just dry out?
Thanks
Update: I checked how it looks after 36 hours in the rice - much better, but now I think the screen is permanently damaged.

There are small bright white dots when the screens turned on. They can be mostly washed out by bright screens, but still visible. I put it back in the rice...
I would try hitting it with the hair dryer and speed up the dry time.

Use cold air setting on it not the heated one,to much heat on wet boards isn't good.
brought to you by the little voices in my head
I emailed XO Skins and they recommended I leave the phone in a bowl of rice for 2-3 days. I doubt it will do anything; I doubt anything will help it dry, but I'm hopeful...
Rice works. I've dropped phones in toilets and it saves them.
Who cares we got s-off jk

That's why I care even more! My lcd gets messed up at 2 pm and at 2:10 I find that we have s-off!

Rice does work wonders. You wouldn't think but it does.
But... If its even ever so slightly less then how it was I would go all out and try to get them to cover a replacement. That's messed up.
Are We Not Phones?
We Are D3VO!
Are we not phones?!
3.DeE.V.O.!!
The XO Skins rep also said that the lcd screens should be sealed from the factory, so what happened to my screen should be impossible unless the phone was completely submerged. I don't blame XO Skins, although the install was kind of a ***** to get it just right.
Seems to be permanently damaged.. See op

Wow what a great 24 hours as far as the ICS and Camera updates. Its almost a new tablet.......
My issue is the following. I received my Prime last Thursday from Best Buy. No issues really other than.....GPS. I don't know what happened but I saw that down by the dock mounts on the left side that the metal piece that lays above the connection and secures the glass is missing or broke. I have no other broken pieces or anything. I am post img a pic yes for advice if I should send it back or not. I probably should but geez it just is getting good lol.

I guess you meant chipped Piece. not Price
Omg lol send it back! Think about the resell value, dude
Yea, get it replaced.
If I'm looking at you're picture right then you are talking about the rubber pieces on either side of the dock connector?
Those need to come off to be able to use the dock.
There is a thin strip of metal right above the rubber pads and somehow that thin piece broke off. I'm getting an RMA. I was just being stupid.
Mr. Giggles: This based on many other threads I've seen you in. Why do you have to be such a jerk to everyone? Its easy to be mean but harder to be nice.
Thanks for the input.

Thin strip of plastic to be precise sir. I would be surprised if they actually replace this under RMA, it does kinda look like you were just a bit rough with it yourself.
Swear to goodness I didn't do a thing to it. I've had it since last Thursday. I guess it's form and the way things sort of roll under the bezel made me not notice it. I couldn't figure out why my screen was a little loose. Then I found this. I guess it is what it is. I got the RMA and spoke to Asus and told them about light bleed and GPS along with screen and crack. I'm just gonna hope for the best. However, no, I never dropped it.
I have noticed recently that the paint on my HTC Radar is peeling off. I look after my phone, have no marks or scratches, but the paint has nearly all worn/peeled off on the front looking terrible. The phone is only 4 months old.
Here are a couple of pics of the paint wear...

The phone is kept in a jacket pocket (soft interior). The paint loss seems to be radiating from the screen, working its way further out.
I contacted HTC Support and got this response:
I’m sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties with the paint peeling from your phone.
My apologies, James, however this type of damage it likely not covered by the warranty as we do not cover wear & tear, meaning if this was put in for a repair you would most likely be charged.
I would suggest speaking to your insurance company or network provider to see if they can provide an alternative.

If this is how an HTC phone stands up to "wear and tear" - and is seen to be ok by HTC - then it will be the first and last one I ever own. My Nokia E71 went 3.5 years under heavy use and abuse without a mark to be found on the whole thing and is still going. My Radar is struggling to survive 3.5 months...
Has anyone else experienced this?
weird, I have the white Radar and never had any paint peel like that
that does give me an idea though, take some super super fine sandpaper and rub off the rest of the paint around the aluminum bits and polish it up, the shiny aluminum combined with the dark plastic would look awesome
The only little scratches I have come from a drop in the street..... But I don't expect anyone to match Nokia hardware.... Am I the only one who thinks this?
I have only experience this with my HTC Radar cases but not the phone itself. I have the White HTC Radar tho... looks like underneath the grey it really a white HTC radar painted grey.
Did you ever had it in contact with rubbing alcohol or heavy moisture area (that how one of my cases colour peeled off)?

Just a quick question, does Sprint do any cosmetic repair? Such as scratches or dints in the corner ect?
I dropped my Evo LTE one time when there was no case on it and it has a couple scrapes ect around the edges. Do Sprint do any kind of casing or housing repair?
I dont mind coming out of pocket to get it done. I would try to just buy the parts and do the job myself but these phones get more and more complicated to put together these days.

I don't think sprint will do anything as it would most likely require a new aluminun chassis. If the edges are just rough from where it hit the ground, you can smooth them off with an emery board or fine grit sandpaper.
Sprint won't do cosmetic repair even if you pay out of pocket. I tried when I dropped my Evo 3D and they told me to take it to a third party. It has to be something the effects the functionality of the phone for sprint to repair it.

I never could stand the shiny back cover, but I just bought a lightweight, low profile snap-on case (not some giant Otter monstrosity), and all is good now. You might go that route... you'll never see the scratches, and its still thin and streamlined looking.

my opinion just buy a case preferably a otterbox u wont even notice it unless your screen is damaged
Go to Best Buy and pick up the 'Platinum Series' case. This is the case that I've used on all three of my HTC EVOs. It does an extremely good job at protecting your phone, PLUS it's really thin and comes with a holster. The corners of the phone doesn't even make contact with the inside of the case. This is truly the best case that I've used throughout the years.

So I left my precious Galaxy Note on the back on my dads truck, the car that he will only drive 10% of the time, and then today he drives it. I go out to get my phone and realize he took the truck. I was like "OHHHHHHH *swear words*!!!!!!!!!"
I went out and looked for it and found it on the side of the rode face down with the screen protector off. I had a simple flip case on it, but I wasn't able to find that.
I am ultra sad right now, but there is a lot of hope.
A strange thing is that the battery was still in it and the back of the phone had absolutly no scratches on it.
I turned it on and I could hear little startup sounds like the new gmail message one
So I guess that is good, but I still have this broken screen .
So the reason I am posting this is because I want to know if I can get it fixed with a kit or something. I am assuming I have to get the LCD and polarizer because the screen is cracked into little bits as the picture showed, and I can pick out each of those bits pretty much.
So much for gorilla glass
Gorilla glass is not for a phone dropping off a moving car....
Also p.m. me I have a spare backing for the note brand new

wait, you left the phone on the back of his truck.....you say that like its normal like one would put it on their dresser or something. So you normally leave your phone in the garage on a vehicle?
Looks like someone ran over it. too many impact points on the glass from pressure applied, rather than the initial smack on the ground.

The rubber of a tire running over the side with the battery aint gonna cause a lot of damage scratch wise... the part facing the concret is another story.
Sucks...

Agreed ....
If that poor thing got ran over ...(sniff)
You likely have hidden stress damage ...IMHO
Was with some girls at the beach, one thing led to another and i dropped my phone in the sand...was kinda buried in it before i noticed after stepping on it.
phones perfect..just some grains embedded in the gap between screen and chassis along the edges like dirt gets stuck inside keyboard.
wondering how i can take it out.
can service center open and clean it up for me?
surprisingly body doesnt have any scratches and phone is perfectly working ...had it been iphone, would ve snapped into pieces after i stepped on it.
Buy a $5 keyboard cleaner and use it on your phone... It's only air so it won't do damage to your phone and do it while your phone is upside down...
Tech support will charge u an arm and a leg.
do u mean compressed air?
i have one of those lens blowers that i use for DSLR..but i doubt it ll work as sand is moist and stuck between the screen-chassis gap.

I think u might be able to clean that sand with compressed air, but not with toys like u shown, or that thingie the other guy suggeested. I am talking about air compressors on fuel pumps for example, for blowing flat tyres. With that kinda blowing, it just might help.

well i might just go to a fuel pump then.
You could always open the case and clean it. Seems to be pretty straight forward. Check out some of the tear down vids on YouTube.

wouldnt that void my warranty?
seems easy to open up though.
i checked with nokia care and since there was a light leak on lcd at left bottom, they will do a repair on that plus clean up the dirt.
only drawback is that it ll take 3-5 working days...compressed air was $15 for a can and i dont think it ll remove the sticky moist sand

If Nokia is going to fix it for free, I would definitely send it back to them for repair. I can't believe the sand didn't destroy the Gorilla Glass.
