Acquiring root... how long do I wait? - HTC EVO 3D

Im currently applying revolutionary...
I entered the beta key correctly.... now its at the point that says
"acquiring root (Method 3)...
I've been waiting about 10 minutes with nothing else happening.... does this sound right?

I had the same problem, I uninstalled my current HTC Drivers and made sure HTC Sync was uninstalled. Then I installed the new HTC Drivers (Don't Forget to run as admin) and it worked like a charm
http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe

soweeet... thanks ill try that

@mma.... what is the status?

I unplugged it and im just completely uninstalling htcsync and reinstalling the drivers suggested... Ill let you know how it goes.

You should be able to just exit HTC sync from your systray and not have to uninstall it. That's what I did.

Uninstalling HTCsync did the trick. Thanks for the help.

Did you install the htc drivers? It should only take a few minutes... less than 5.

hope this video helps

The best way to install all the right drivers, believe it or not, is to install PDANet on your computer. Just choose HTC when it asks you what brand. Make sure you close PDANet in the system done installing it because it auto-runs in the system tray.

I had the same problem on both of my computers. I never had installed HTC sync so I figured some other driver issue was the problem. I uninstalled everything android such as Droid Explorer, Easy Tether and Pda net just to be sure the usb drivers were not interfering. I rebooted and installed the HTC driver and everything was fine. Revolution ran in about 2 mins and I had root.
Al

Revolution shouldn't take more than 2-5 minutes start to finish
You can leave htc sync on the computer as long as it's not running, same with pdanet

Close everything. Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Escape). Processes. If ADB.exe is running, kill it. Then try running everything again. That was a problem when I was rooting my Nexus S 4G. It should start only when it's needed.

I did that and still get waiting for device, apparently i fail at life lol

What I did to get past waiting for fastboot..... Make sure you have the drivers installed of course
Right click on my computer, preferences, can't remember which tab it is in but look for device manager. My device had a yellow question mark and said android 1.0.
Right click on your device, should say android 1.0 or something similar and select update driver. It should update and switch from android 1.0 to My HTC.
This was how I got it to work on my old windows xp. Hope It helped!

grrr now its stopping at waiting for fastboot

[Q] Sideload Wonder Machine

So I been trying to use the Sideload Wonder Machine for my Xperia x10 and for some reason the SWM is not recognizing my phone is just doesn't display the device number, I'm pretty sure I have the right drivers I don't know what else to do ? I am getting so frustrated help? why wouldnt SWM reconigze my phone? but the computer does
I had a problem at first and I reinstalled the drivers a couple of times and also used ADB directly and it started working. It's definitely driver and ADB related.
Also, be sure you have debugging turned on in the phone. Once you get it working it should work from that point on.

I think thats the one I am using, I mean isnt that the one when you plug your usb cable for the first time it installs itself?

Yes I did a few times and no luck.
I read that the Captivate had the same problem and one fix was installing generic Samsung drivers, I am not finding any such thing for Sony. I am convinced it is a driver problem.

Yeah I think so too, I been looking for more drivers and I cant find any.
Have you guys tried killing the PC Companion process (the one that runs on startup) and then trying to reinstall the drivers?
No i have not..but i unistall and reinstall the drivers a lot of times already. I am even lookin for different drivers but they all the same ..or when I try to update it it says that it has the right driver already. I can't think of anything else. I guess. Would never be able to use it

You need to download the Android SDK. Once that is setup, ADB is located in the installed folder under the tools folder.
This is a DOS command interface. You will need to run CMD and then from the tools directory type:
ADB shell
This should show the following:
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
If your device is recognized it will show it there as well, if not the last line will be this:
error: device not found
When I download the sdk i need to only installed for the 1.6 version right? I dont need to installed all that crap? Or should i install everythin? I know u hate me am so annoyinnn lol. But am a girl and slow for this kind of things : )

Don't worry, I've been employed in IT for 20 years. It's not because you are a girl, it's because you just don't have the xperience (see what I did there? Lol).
You can just install 1.6, it doesn't matter because you aren't going to use that part of it.
Ohh that's why u know so much about this .... lucky u ...well and about my problem with the swm ..it just doesnt work ...but im tired of tryin everythin so i am gonna wait for the update of 2.1 ..i think with the update would work ....well i hope so hehe

If you decide you can't wait or if it still has issues after the update, I can probably walk you through getting it working via chat or a phone call.
It is definitely an issue with the driver not working with ADB properly. Also, are you killing the process PCCompanion.exe? You can kill this process using Task Manager and clicking on the Processes tab.
Ok, so I've been going back and forth with this too. I had it working, installed SEUS, then it wasn't working, did a system restore, and started over. It was working again. I formatted my phone and noticed it wasn't working again. This is what I did to make it work:
1)Completely uninstall the PC Companion. It's virtually useless now anyway
2)With the phone connected go into the device manager (right click my computer-->Manage and select device manager), and uninstall the device driver windows shows for the phone. As soon as you do that unplug the phone.
3)Go into the C:\Windows\System32 folder and delete these three files (if they are there):
WdfCoInstaller01007.dll
WinUSBCoInstaller.dll
WUDFUpdate_01007.dll
4)If you had the android sdk already just delete the entire folder and download the latest version from here: http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r07-windows.zip
5)Install the packages shown in the attached pic. You only need the 1.6 files and a couple of other packages.
6)Once you get all of this done, plug in your phone with debugging turned on and you should be good to go.

Thanks so much SPIDERTECH !! Everything works now!
@Jmercy09 you're quite welcome. I may have to do this again myself. My computer is now, again, not seeing the phone
I actually had to redo these steps and was back up and running. I found the best way to test this after doing the steps is by using the android screencast (attached). If screencast runs and shows your screen, it worked. If it doesn't, then it obviously didn't work as screencast has to see the phone in the same way SWM has to see it.

revolutionary method stuck at 'zerging root'

i wanna get s-off and root on my wife's phone using the revolutionary method so she doesn't lose any data, problem is that I can't get the HTCDriver3.0.0.007 on my windows 7 machine to open up, i get a windows popup that asks is it ok to run this file, i hit 'ok', then that's it, setup never starts. so when i try to run revolutionary, i get stuck at the 'zerging root' step. apparently it won't get past that step until after i get that htcdriver to install.
i've made sure the phone was in usb debugging, updated windows, tried to download that same exe from other sites, and still nothin.
anybody have an idea of what to do
There's no point bothering to run Revolutionary until you get the driver installed....
Are you logged in with admin privileges on Windows ? Is a User Access Control window popping up that you don't see and aren't responding to ?
You could use HTC sync to get the drivers that's what u did...
My name is Revos I'm a recovering flashaholic running Liquid Gingerbread 3.0
the only window i get is the one asking if i'm sure i wanna run the file, i hit yes and nothin else happens. i'm the admin, i even ran hit 'run as admin' and it still nothing happened. i've tried other exe files that i have on my computer to see if they would run and they ran. it's just this one
i thought htc sync had to be disabled in order to use revo though
Sync does have to be disabled, but I think what Revos means is install the sync and connect your phone. It should at that point automatically install the htc driver for your specific device. Then remove the HTC Sync and leave the driver.

Don't the instructions at revolutionary.io say exactly that ?
how could i uninstall sync and not uninstall the driver with it
The installer from HTC includes multiple pieces that show up individually in Add/Remove Programs. Easiest thing is to try it...

i FINALLY got it! i reinstalled htc sync, it was over 100 mb. then deleted it. after that, i plugged the phone in and mounted it as a disk drive, so it installed whatever drivers it needed. then mounted it as htc sync; windows installed more drivers. then i set it to charge only, enabled usb debugging and ran revolution again, and it finally worked. she's rooted!! thanks!!!
Same thing was happening to me when I was tryin to root my mom's Thunderbolt. Couldn't get past the "Zerging Root..."
So contrary to what all the guides say, I installed HTC Sync, it installed all it's pre-requisites during the install, UPDATED HTC Sync to latest version, it updated all the pre-reqs again, mounted phone to computer as a disk drive, waited for drivers to install, mounted phone to HTC Sync, waited for all drivers to install, confirmed that HTC Sync was communicating the phone, set phone as Charge Only, waited for drivers to install, unistalled HTC Sync, ran Revolutionary, waited a minute, it FINALLY got past Zerging Root!
Hope this helps anyone else who has been tearing their hair out over this issue...
Alternate solution for rooting with latest ota...if you have locked bootloader
For those of you that have endured the frustration of updating to the latest software version (2.11.605.9) There is hope! Apparently with this software version, the bootloader is locked. And for some reason this version would not allow the "Revolutionary" rooting method to work. (I would imagine everyone with this problem had issues with not being able to get past Zerg Root. At least that was the problem I had)
Anyways, I got my phone rooted....heres how.
Per the instructions for using Revolutionary, install the driver as stated on their website. (Make sure HTC Sync is not installed on your computer)
Download Mecha_2.11.605.3.zip (I'm a newbie here so I cant post links, but I found it through Android Police but if u google it its easy to find, its hosted on multi upload) rename the zip file as PG05IMG and put on the root of your SD card (as you would in other rooting methods) and run the bootloader.
Once its booted and all that fun waiting is over and your TB powers back up, make sure to turn off all wireless connections to make sure OTA doesnt try to upgrade you. (I turned on airplane mode as soon as I could)
From there run Revolutionary as instructed from their website. Worked like a charm for me, and hope it does for all of you with this same problem.
I TAKE ABSOLUTELY NO CREDIT FOR THIS SOLUTION. Thank you for all you developers out there that make our phones able to be so much cooler and more enjoyable. I'm just glad I could help in this marginal way, and hope that someone will find it usefull. SPREAD THE WORD IF YOU KNOW OF ANYONE HAVING THIS PROBLEM
Thunderbolt Tool
I was able to S-OFF and ROOT my Thunderbolt by using the Thunderbolt Tool located at this link... rootzwiki.com/topic/27310-all-in-one-the-htc-thunderbolt-tool
This app does it all for you, just follow the instructions.

getting frustrated...idk what i am doing wrong

This is the 3rd time i have tried S-off my Evo V. To be honest, idk why i am bothering with it because the radio issue is annoying but it fixes itself within a minute or two.
But i'm unlocked via HTC dev, i'm rooted and i am using JMZstock odex rom and i am following the directions here(at least i think i am)
Unlimited.IO
I do step 10 and everything is there.
I run controlbear...it does it's thing...after it finds the fourth file, it reboots the phone and then loads for 45 seconds
and then it keeps saying
Hmm, still no device
Open device manager and check adb and/or fastboot drivers!!
I can't get past this.
I am using a Windows 7 laptop....i read somewhere to try a different USB port and i have 3 and i've tried all 3 but i have no clue what to do.
Do you have USB debugging enabled in settings? Also if you have HTC sync installed on your PC uninstall it. Also iTunes if it is on there. These programs will interfere with the wire trick process. Make sure your stock ROM with superuser too.

Yeah i had the usb debugging enable and i uninstalled HTC Sync and for good measure i also got rid of Motodrive/Moto cast and Samsung Kies from when i had my razr and gs3.
I have no clue what is going on though and why i get stuck after it finds the 4th device.
There is a specific version of controlbear for Evo V (VM), use that.
Also, you need an RUU for your device in order to S-OFF.
None of the other ROMs will work for Evo V.

MTP drivers just wont install

The driver install fails on the HTC MTP driver install...I cannot get by this. I am running Windows 7 64 bit...anyone else having this issue?
OMG I fought with that for HOURS. I never did get them to work. I installed htc sync, htc sync manager, and I installed the all in one kit drivers.. Nothing. Windows 7 64 bit too.
I assume you are trying to unlock the bootloader and root?
Do both things manually using fast boot commands and recovery.
Tl;dr you can root without MTP drivers

exactly like me, I have been fighting with this for two days now. Reinstalling htc sync, htc sync manager, cleaning out existing drivers reinstalling again. Removing everything that could be associated with htc at all, reinstalling android sdk etc etc.
Nothing makes my phone recogniced by ´adb devices´not even htc sync software recognice it.
Every time I plug it in, the device is recogniced and installed and it says under Portable Devices in the device manager ´HTC One X+´
Do you get the Choose type of connection screen on your phone when connecting it? Because I dont, is just says connected in debug mode, even if debug development tools is turned of and debug of. But it still doesnt show up in adb.

No, not on this phone.. I think it has to do with the MTP crap. You can read an informative post by Lloir in the dev section to find out more.

hmm.
went back to the store and made them try connecting the phone to one of their laptops, if course everything worked perfectly there
So now im back trying to figure out what to do. Going to find the post you mention and see if I get any hints there.
Did you notice my post above where you I claimed you can root and unlock without the drivers?
What do you need to do that you need them?
Hi,
I am reading this, it is exactly what I recognize with my new One X+ too.
BUT I am not wanting to root or something. I'd like the Navigon software to recognize my device and download the maps like it did on my Desire HD.
Any more hints to how I can get this running ?

[Q] moonshine wont finish on droid dna

So basically moonshine is the only option if you take the ota to get s-off. so i have all the drivers installed and and start moonshine and it all goes good until it says rebooting into bootloader <again> waiting for fastboot <9/60> then instead of going to the next step it makes dashes (-) that fill up the comand promt and my phone is in the fastboot menu. I let it do that for about An hour *and I've tried multiple times. Any ideas ?
*
Additional info running windows 7 phones on 4.1.1 with the 2.06.605.1 710 RD update, usbdebug is on fastboot is off. Phone is fully charged. Htcsync is uninstalled and im using usb 2.0 with factory HTC cable.
Try different drivers (pdanet) and disable your firewall and antivirus. I tried everything 2 with moonshine. I was so frustrated. Took me a whole day to finally work. Disabling firewall, anti virus, and loading different drivers finally worked!!!!!

Tried all that except the pda drivers and the firewall. Going to give it a go tomorrow thanks it is driving me crazy and it helps to have someone else's input so i really appreciate it.
MoonShine didn't work for me. Try RevOne. If that doesn't initially work try omitting the -P switch in the first step and continue.
if it fails grab a ubuntu 32 bit live cd and use those instructions it took me about 10 minutes to do mine since it reboots the phone about 20 times lol.
Alright I used revone and finally got s-off unlocked but I tried flashing twrp and it hangs when trying to enter recovery. It says enteringrecovery and I have to hold power to reboot it.

moonshine works
plug your usb cable into a port directly on the mobo, be sure you have installed all of the HTC drivers(remove the sync program and any other HTC programs), makes sure your adb is up to date.
The first night i did it, it didnt work and I kept getting the WTF? What are you doing? error.
2nd night, made sure adb and drivers installed(restart pc), used port on modo instead of hub, changed screen timeout settings to 10 mins instead of never, (ran adb.exe as admin), ran moonshine as admin(win 7x64) and it worked. I screenshot the results if ud like to see.
