[Q] Google Voice Problems on 2.3.4 - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After going to 2.3.4 another google voice bug has come up.
Previous continuing bugs include no picture on outgoing calls, sometimes calling my name (with the correct outgoing phone number), incoming calls as me (but not me) and the new bug is the 'calling via google voice' popular at the start if a call now has either white on white or no text at all.
Is the Motorola dialer screwing this up?
Any solutions?
Edit: mods please move to q and a... xda app messed up, seemed to have posted in the wrong section... crashes on new topic... stupid browser.

I use GV exclusively for all my texting and calling. My GV will have a pending message sending forever until i go into the applications and force close it and re open frequently (at least once per day).
I have experienced several other bugs also. I have had many different Android Phones and it seems to be a fairly common problem.
The Google Voice app needs a large update, it is sad to see Google putting out sub-par Apps for their own Operating System.
Google Maps and Gmail are superb apps and continue to get better with frequent updates. I just hope that some more Google development time goes into apps like Google Voice, and Google Docs to bring them up to speed.
Also, GOOGLE RELEASE A HONEYCOMB GOOGLE VOICE APP!!!!

Moved to proper forum.

poop on google voice integration

Well I guess it depends which way you look at this...
I use (used) google voice strictly for voicemail on the Evo4g but it appears that somehow this works differently on the E3d.
The app essentially hijacked my phone and made itself the default receiver of text messages as well as voice/voicemail. I liked it better when i had the choice which program make all my calls and I much prefer the sense sms app over the one built into google voice.
Maybe i did something different but I noticed even the differences in the setup of google voice...it seems that sprint's carrier integration now allows for all this. Just wish i had the option to choose what part of the app does what.
Thought others might want to know as well. phone is GREAT by the way =]o
Did the same thing for me. Easy fix though. Go to voice.google.com and Deactivate Google Voice on your Sprint phone in Voice Settings. Deactivate call forwarding. Then you can re-enable call forwarding.
I was pissy about this myself. I hadn't tried the fix but unwilling as soon as I get to my pc.
So does this work? Does this just do phone or text as well? any update?
It's not an EVO 3D thing it's a Sprint Google integration thing. You just didn't setup your EVO from scratch after the Voice integration happened.
I love Google Voice integration. I've posted these links in other threads but they are good reads on why you are better off actually integrating and how to still use your default messaging apps.

Here are some other cool things I'm able to do now myself. I can make outbound and inbound calls on my google talk using my cell number on my computer wherever I have internet access. I bought an OBI110 and hooked up a phone to it so now I have free VOIP calls whenever I answer or receive calls to my CELL number on this phone. Now I don't have to give anyone a different number and I can still control who gets to reach me at what time of the day. I can answer and receive texts on my computer, laptop, tablet all using my cell number. All my texts are backed up and searchable to my google voice account (even texts I send from my phone using one of the regular messaging apps, not google voice app)
My opinion. Take the time and setup integration right. It's one MAJOR advantage of being an Android user on Sprint now. You're missing out on way more by not setting it up than you would by setting it up.
Oh and for those who don't want to lose your old Google Voice Number, Google lets you keep additional numbers at $20 per number.

[Q] Recieving Google Voice SMS text with stock Android messenger App

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note II that has been rooted and uses CleanROM 5.0. Today I noticed that my Google Voice messages are not only being received by the GV App, but also by the stock messenger App. Also, the stock messenger App will reply through whichever source the SMS came in (either Google Voice or Verizon). This surprised me, as I don’t remember ever getting GV messages that way before. Google Voice messages would only go to the GV App. I have also determined that I don’t even need to be logged on to the GV App for this to work. I tried Googling this to see if it was normal. All I could find was recent news of this being achieved by a Cyanogen Mod and there also being an App that will do this. I have neither a Cyanogen mod nor that App. What am I missing here? Why is the doing this for me? In any case, I’d like to use just the Stock App for everything I’d like to know how to make all outgoing messages default to using just Google Voice. Any ideas around why this started happening and how I can control how new messages will be sent?
Answered my own question (mostly)
OK, I found out why this started happening. Somehow I had changed the setting in Google Voice, so that text messages were getting sent my cell phone. So duh.... when I received a text to my Google account, it also was going to my Verizon account, and thus my stock messaging app. I found this out when I saw all the text charges Verizon was billing me for. So now I am using that App, called Stock Messaging Application with Google Voice, It looks somewhat like the stock application- but not quite (I like the stock better). It does catch messages coming in from both Google and and Verizon. I have it set to reply to all through Google- which it does. This is mostly what I wanted to do- the problem is, it's a little buggy. Sometimes a message won't go in or out. And as I said, I still like the stock app better.
So I still have a remaining question. Does anyone know if, or when, the breakthrough of this from July (for Cyanogen Mod) is showing up for other ROMS?

Just posting to let you know I am following your thread and I'm interested in the results as well. Let's hope somebody comes along with some more information. Do you have a link to that app?

Glad to see someone else cares- I was actually kind of surprised by the lack of feedback/interest in this. I would have guessed this would be of more interest to people....oh well.
The app I was referring to can be found on the Google Play Store- it is called "Messaging + Google Voice", the developer is Troxie.net
This board won't let me post the link.
The problem with this app is that it seems a little buggy. Sometimes messages don't send or receive- but in general it does what it says. I have also found the Text for Free service by Pinger works pretty well with the stock messaging. You can set it so that all of your cell phone service based texts will also go into the Text for Free app. Then when you reply, the outgoing message will go through text for free. However, this is a separate number- not a Google Voice number.

I actually use the Sprint integration with Google Voice, so I am using only one phone number, my Sprint mobile number. I am really just trying to set it up so that if I am at my PC and I send an SMS with the web interface, that message will also be displayed on my phone. Right now, I can see that message in my google voice app, but not any third party SMS app (like Textra, which I use). I want to be able to use Textra to send all my SMS and MMS, and have it sync any messages I send using the google voice web interface as well.

[Q] A mod to enable Google Voice forwarding on Google Hangouts in Android?

I've been pretty disappointed with Google leaving out their loyal Android customers in the dust when it comes to the feature mentioned in the title. This feature has been available to iOS users since before Android KitKat was released.
Here's my question:
Would it be possible to add a line of code to the Google Hangouts app on Android to receive forwarded Google Voice calls as it does on the iOS app?
Or would such a feature have to be enabled on the backend at Google's servers and any mods to the app would be pointless?
Here's why I am hopeful:
There's been apps like Groove IP that are already able to provide this feature. I'd just like to have this functionality without having to install any 3rd party apps that always have to be running in the background. Google Hangouts is already the primary sms app for Android & so it is already able to receive texts, mms, along with video and voice chats. Thus, it should be somewhat possible to receive call forwarding from Google voice.
Disclaimer:
I am not a developer, just a curious user who's willing to contribute a little cash to any developer who's willing to take on this challenge.
Thanks!

This is exactly what I was looking for as well.
It seems iOS gets free voice support but in a weeks time when google voice gets rip of XMPP all other work arounds will cease to exist.
Frustrating.

Yep, I didn't know that they were getting rid of access to 3rd party apps like GrooveIP.
I just noticed that Google Hangouts will now also verify your Google Voice number. I don't believe that it did this initially. Maybe this is a sign of good things to come. Hopefully we get the same benefits that the iOS users have been reaping for awhile now.

I think this might help
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xposed-xvoiceplus-voice-xposed-t2598889
So it looks like we're slowly getting there. Some user over on reddit was able to initiate a call from Hangouts on a desktop and then join the conversation via the hangouts app on his android device. The call was still maintained after he disconnected from the desktop.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1ynnsb/google_hangouts_voip_over_lte_working_right_now/
This is definitely a step in the right direction.
Do you think anyone here would be able to put a modified apk of google hangouts that has an inbuilt dialer which will allow us to skip the desktop part? That would be wicked. I'll pledge $5 towards a bounty for the developer who is able to hack this.

[Q] Hangouts with Integrated Google Voice Sending Multiple SMS per message.

I've been using Google Hangouts to send SMS on my Sprint Note 3 for awhile now with little to no issues. That changed however with the recent Google Voice integration into Hangouts. Now, each time I try to send a text message, the message is received multiple times by the recipient, although I only see it sent once. Occasionally, the recipient will get anywhere from fifteen to twenty instances of the same message.
My Google Voice number is the same as my carrier number, which has never proven to be an issue before, but now I'm wondering if that's the culprit. I've searched all over for an answer to this particular issue, and it seems like I'm in the minority (so far).
Anyone else having a similar problem? It's more of an annoyance than anything, but I'd rather not be blasting out dozens of messages to my contacts if I don't have to.
Thanks.
Same issue

I am having the EXACT same issue as you descibe above.. Using a Note3 on Sprint, until recently it worked without a hitch, now for the past 2-3 weeks, when I send SMS messsages I get people that state they get it up to 40x, when it only shows that it was delivered from my device once.
I am not sure if it is a Google Voice issue, Hangouts issue, Android, Sprint or just a combo of all of the above? If you are able to get a resolution, please let me know!
Thanks,
-Tim
Tim,
I was perusing around the Google help pages the other day and notices a new disclaimer I had not seen before. It was a short blurb on one of the Hangouts SMS help pages that said something along the lines of "If you're using Google Voice with your Sprint mobile number, do NOT integrate Google Voice with Hangouts. It will cause issues with SMS."
Not the most helpful thing in the world. But I ended up just disabling Voice from my Sprint service altogether. I hated to do it, since I've been using Voice on Sprint for several years now, but seeing as Voice is soon going the way of the Dodo, I figured it won't matter before too long anyway. I was only using Voice for voicemail anyway, so it wasn't a huge transition for me. Depending on how reliant you are on Voice, it might be a bigger problem for you.
At any rate, disconnecting Google Voice from my Sprint number solved the problem... no more spam texts!

Trying to understand . Business messages /google play services/ different device.

1: ) When contacting a business via phone I seen a voice to text service. Not sure where that was coming from. Never figured that out except it looked like visual voice mail? IDK, says transcript on the phone log. Some of them don't have it.
2 When my wife contacted a business yesterday I received a script on my phone while she was in text or a call. Unsure , We have each others google accounts on each others phones. Easier for apps, calendar etc. She is on a different network, so not sure why a text or a voice chat would come across .
When clicking on the program used it says google play services.
3 Some company left me a voice mail last week and I seen a notification and cleared it, now I cannot find where it was at or location it was. My regular voice mail with ATT is working , but some voice mail goes to Youmail if not a business . This one in particular wasn't sent to either one. Just the notification and gone.
Looked like a similar format of the voice transcript.
I contacted ATT ( They have no clue)
Asked in discord , some help but nothing explaining what it is.(Thank you for the one who helped some)
Asked on Google community help ( no answer ).
And yes I give it time, few days , week etc.
Here is a screen shot of the text or voice that my wife did that started coming across my phone for some reason. If I close it out I have no idea where to find the transcript?
Google pixel 6 pro rooted.
Help for figuring out this "feature" would be appreciated.
