[Q] MIUI flashing help - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i was just needing help flashing miui without losing my 3g and not needing to use odin or anything because im bad with that stuff! thanks!

what rom are you using...?
r u on GB bootloader or Froyo bootloader...?
is your phone rooted? if yes then install CWM (download a rom manager from market-free version and install CWM from there)
there are tons of MIUI roms under Vibrant Android Development Section....

i am using project v
i guess ihave a froyo bootloader
and it is rooted
i was hoping to flash miui-us's miui

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123922

From a 2.2 to miui.us you can flash fine without flashing bootloaders, you will still get very good 3g,good gps,and soooo much more.
But to flash back to anything other than miui you will have to Odin back to stock.
Also ...if you don't like the battery drain in 2.2....you are so NOT going to like it in miui.....just a little warning
smokin that ReVamped Miui.us. ;-)

There isn't a list of the 'Top 5 Roms' because everyone has there own preference. I would recommend that you look around & install what catches your eye, if you don't like it.. Try something else.
wat about the unlock issue then?? will my phone get locked again if i install a rom??

Optimus one stable gingerbread ROM

Hello there!
I'm a n00b at this, and I just managed to flash a custom kernel on my Optimus one. (I needed it for overclocking)
I was wondering, what the most stable Gingerbread ROM is, for the Optimus one right now? I heard the unofficial CM7 ROM is a bit unstable
Also, can anyone give me instructions on how to use the ROM? Can I use ROM Manager?
Or should I boot into the clockwork mod recovery and flash zips from there?
Thanks in advance!
Go to this link:
http://www.megaupload.com/?f=XGKNWZQJ
look for CWM 3.1.0.0, flash it ( I didnt use Rom Manager)
than look for CM7, wipe dalvik/wipe everything, than flash that rom....it's not to bad of a rom
1.All roms based on official 2.3.3 are stable, while cm7 roms have some minor bugs.
2.Rom manager is a tool to install clockworkmod recovery directly.
3.now u can flash zip from cwm.
Thanks a lot for the replies folks!
I'll try out the official 2.3.3 ROM now.
What about Megatron? I know it's froyo, but the performance is supposed to be top notch Is it stable enough?
And another n00b question, don't mind,
If I flash any of these ROMs, official 2.3.3 or CM7 or Megatron, do I retain root access?

Go to the link that Jrhodes85 gave you and download both ClockworkMod 3.1.0.0 and AmonRA 2.2.1a, since you'll need to switch from one to the other depending on the ROM that you want to flash. As a very general rule older ROMs (like Megatron or LOL) need AmonRA, whereas newer ROMs (most 2.2.2 and 2.3.x based ROMs) will need ClockWorkMod (still you have to check the specific ROM post as they usually specify which recovery you need). Remember that these recoveries are ZIP-flashable, meaning that you can switch from one to the other simply by flashing from recovery (that is, you can be using Clockworkmod and flash AmonRA using the flash zip option and once you reboot into recovery you'll have your new recovery and viceversa).
I've tried most of the ROMs around here (except the 2.3's) and for me the most stable/better battery life is definitely LOL 1.4.2, still the best way to know is test them yourself (as every user is different).
Regarding the "root access" question if you flash any of the unofficial 2.3.x you'll keep root access, the only way that I think you'll lose root access is if you flash an official LG ROM. Keep in mind that that process is different since you won't be using a custom recovery but a tool called KDZ. I would advice to go that way only when you feel pretty comfortable flashing unofficial ROMs back and forth.
The other thing to keep in mind is that for ROMs "based" on the official 2.3.3 code there's an additional step that involves flashing a new "baseband" (this doesnt applies if you just want to flash any of the unofficial 2.3.4 ROMs like Andy's or Mik's CM7). The baseband flashing involves additional tools to the custom recovery so proceed with caution.
So if I flash any kind of stock Gingerbread ROM, I'll have to do the baseband?
(Is there and "unofficial stock Gingerbread ROM", without bugs? I wouldn't know )
So if I use kdz and flash an official Gingerbread ROM, I'll lose recovery and root right?
Can I use ROM Manager to get the CM7 mod or Megatron or the stock GB? Or should I flash from cwm?

See below. Other than that, all of this has been answered about zillion times.
http://goo.gl/HJ2Gw
But what about ROM Manager? Can I use it to flash CM7 or Megatron?
And I have cwm installed. I've done a backup with it. Is this enough? how is it different from a Nandroid backup?
Also, is it necessary to partition my sd card for the same? Or can I move apps to it later on, by some other means?
(Pardon me, this is the first ROM I'm flashing )
Please read the dictionary and faq. Your questions have been answered previously. But, you don't need rom manager if you already have cwm. You also don't need to partition your sd card if you don't want to use a2sd/data2sd.
You will also need titanium for apps backup. There are other apps for contacts and messages backup.
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
All of them are somewhat unstable, or buggy, but so is the official stock firmware I say CM7 6.5.5.

[Q] Updating to Gingerbread :)

hi guys,
i am currently on Bionix-v 1.3.1 in my vibrant and i want to update to gingerbread.
so i wonder is it possible to upgrade vibrant to gingerbread and if so,can u link me to a way how to do that ?
thanks in advance
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117990
flash GB bootloaders then you can flash any GB rom over whatever rom
theres ways to do it without the bootloaders but you'll get rainbow screen on boot and wont be able to see recovery
Flash using GB bootloader,it can fix rainbows and use any GB ROM
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
thanks guys
so do i have to install GB rom first and then flash ? or its other way around ?
and which rom do u recommond for vibrant ?
thanks

bootloaders 1st
cant flash straight to a GB rom from froyo without them
only rom i know of that can be is SH3.3, can flash that from froyo without them then flash whatever other GB rom you want through rom manager i think (i did this because i dont trust odin)
some have .tar files so you can flash them through odin to get to GB but voodoo sometimes messes up so you still need the bootloaders to go to recovery and disable it if it does
easiest way's to flash the bootloaders then just flash whatever GB over whatever
thanks again
i have flashed using gb boot loader
i am going to try Simply Honey 4.0 Revolution(JVQ GB 2.3.4) custom rom.
will post what happens

hi,
all things working fine
but just wondering how to upgrade to Medium OR Large sized version of that OS.
i am currently on the light version of Simply Honey 4.0 Revolution(JVQ GB 2.3.4)

all GB roms are taken from i9000 because we dont have an official GB for our phones
dont know what its because of why calls dont work for some people, they worked for everyone on 2.3.3 i think
dont think radio works because there isnt any radio drivers for our phone so just uninstall it
video calling is there for the people that have put an FFC into their vibrant, it doesnt change anything
MIUI FTW
If you wanna flash a GB ROM trust me MIUI 1.29.11 is the way to go. You will be surprised how nice it is. Just give it a try.
P.S. I flashed it coming from a 2.2 ROM (trigger 3.3) without flashing bootloader. Just did the same old flashing process (wipe, wipe, wipe)
well,
i am on 2.3.4 and i want to reverse back to a 2.3 rom "Team Toxic "Crazy8".
so i do have to install old bootloaders according to them.
anyone got a idea how to do that ?
thanks

i came from bionix 131 was a great rom but get ready for bad assness
1. assuming you have cwm, flash cwm recovery, pick vibrant mtd, click yes then chose clockworkmod 2.x
2. go to download rom, go to cyanogen nightlies and pick perhaps the highest build number unless it has really bad remarks.
3. do the usual clear cache, clear dalv, flash it, fix permissions
let it boot and sit for a few and hold on to your panties...lol
nope gps does not work. but from what i remember bionix gps was pretty spotty as well
dont forget to wipe data, anyways reading some of the posts. simply galaxy is cool, love the blue but cm7 is waaaaay smoother and highly customizable. and you dont need to flash gb bootloaders. and if you want to go back once you flashed gb loaders, your gonna gave to get froyo boots back, from what i remember. cm7 has made it too easy to flash, was kind of tricky in the beginning, but did it for the fun of it

Why Gingerbread?

I´ve just bought a Vibrant Galaxy S and I was thinking in updating it to gingerbread. First I thought there was an official release since most of the galaxy s have gingerbread now but to my surprise no gb for Vibrant. After reading this forum I have come to no conclusion whether I should update to 2.3.4 by using CyanogenMOD because if I read it correct it seems:
1) that Cya 7 drains battery faster than samsung stock 2.2 rom.
2) Also, it seems that all the samsung stock apps doesn´t come with Cya7. What app does it comes with for SMS, dialing, etc?
3) Why can´t you use roms from Samfirmware.com, there´s a I9000BVJJW4 2.3.3 there, is it incompatible with Vibrant?
4) What about the Dark Rom which also features 2.3.4, what´s the main difference from cyanogen? does it comes with touchwiz?
Thank you guys.
1) it drains faster because the source is not for the vibrant, its made to work on the vibrant
2) the dialer is the same and the mms is about the same but cm7 does have the dsp manager to raise the music quality and rendering effects but if you like twiz or stock widgets so much just flash a twiz gb rom like
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192438
3) the i9000 source does not work but is ported to work on the vibrant in fact that's probably what some roms are based on
4) I don't know I couldn't find a link to it but if you've seen it just read the op it will explain everything and whether or not it has twiz
people flash gb roms for the speed and customizeability not for battery life and there are gb roms that look like stock gb (cm7), or sgs2 (revolutionRom), or are one of a kind (MIUI), you can back up your phone in clockwork now, then flash each gb rom and restore back if you don't like it as many times as you want until you find the one that's perfect for you but if battery life is most important stick with 2.2 but give gb a try

I´m thinking on trying the MIUI, do I have to update my bootloader before? I have the stock 2.2 firmware in it.
I'm not sure what uploading your bootloader means but no you don't need to flash the gb bootloader or froyo bootloader just do some wiping and flash the rom .... the gb bootloader is just to get rid of rainbows and having the wrong bootloader doesn't brick your phone so it doesn't matter .... saying bootloader so much sure made this reply long btw I think MIUI still uses the froyo bootloader so flash away

Jvp roms should not be flashed with gb bootloaders because the external sd stops mounting but MIUI no longer says jvp and I believe it got updated so yes update to gb bootloaders after you wipe and flash the rom the worst that could happen is your external sd stops mounting and you'll have to flash the old bootloaders back enjoy MIUI
here's a link to the gb bootloaders, the same thread also has the froyo bootloaders just in case

revamped has everything stock MIUI has but comes with the tk's glitch kernel with rom so you won't have to flash it and waste time and it also has clocks, a nice calendar, live wallpapers (stock MIUI has no live wallpaper pre-installed), build.prop tweaks and more just read the op in the thread my other reply has links
absolutely no gb bootloaders for miui and cm7

New sgs2 owner. Which rom?

Hey I luckily got my hands on 9100 and not the 9100g. As there are too many roms I got confused on which one to flash. I downloaded miui ics version and flashed it via CWM it got stuck on boot logo. I had a nandroid so I just restored it back
The phone is on 2.3.6 so can I directly flash ics roms via CWM? It's rooted. I like cyanogen but I have heard its got bad camera app. Can someone guide me to the best roms and also to some must have apps for a rooted phone. SGS2 is my first REAL android experience.
And also the phone runs real hot.
PS : I have used search button.
Hang on to your stock for a week, then Westcrips 1.2 (4.04) gets released.. use the time in between talking on your stock phone, and reading up the 1900 pages on that rom
There is no perfect or right ROM.you have to test what fits you best.
Try different ROMs and kernels and you will find your personal perfect ROM.
I tried many different GB and ics roms and my personal favourite is Turkbey ROM v37 SE.
Very stable, fast and awesome looking

So, using that search button, you must have found the dozens of posts saying that going from GB to ICS ROMs, if you're stuck in boot logo or boot looping, then to try a full wipe, right???
Maybe not.

I would say go Cynaogenmod their ics rom is running very stable, but it is a matter of personal taste, but as a first time custom rom i would stick with Cynagonmod. You can find the latest release here. As for flashing roms while on 2.3.6 will be fine, just make sure you do a nandroid backup and do a data wipe, cashe wipe befeor flashing as this will cause bootloop.
I can recommend hydrogen-ics with latest siyah kernel because it is my current setup
If you are new to rooting and flashing roms then i would recomend get more experience before flashing a custom kernel. Although i do use siyah kernel and it's wicked, so if you do venture into kernels as well i would recomend Siyah kernel the same as gent.xda
stay on ur stock rom ,untill u kno ur phone well an read xda too,an abt roms there is no perfect rom (define perfect)i don think anything is perfect///////well as for roms spikes, omega, ics remix, hydrogen are good ,cm9 is always updating but if ur a teck geek miui ,cm9 is it...........cheeeerz
This GalaxyMOD looks good: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1482372 and it's your neighbor from Mumbai.
There is no best ROM it's like everything in life depends on the needs...
Read / backup / Flash and return to back up if needed
Since this is a discussion and not "plz can i haz the best ROM"
Post what rom you're on and the reason for it!
