[Q] using evo 3d in india? - HTC EVO 3D

I m frm gujarat & i hv a ques which google/xdA or my technoholic friends could not answer. After exhaustive research i couldnt make a decision....
question is: I have a friend in US who just bought an evo 3d frm ebay, but found it had bad ESN.Now he is going to sell it in 250$ coz he cant use it with sprint or any other carrier anymore. Can i use tht fone here in india on cdma or gsm networks,by unlocking or flashing it?I read tht its bootloader will be unlocked soon Plz tell me if this is possible anyhow...m goin to pay real money to him
Thanks in advance

It would depend on what type of towers you have ( cdma or gsm) you need cdma, and also what frequencies they are running. the US evo 3d runs on 1900 mhz. Also im not sure if you can flash the evo 3d yet. im sure its possible, but the methods and apps used to flash other phones havent been tested yet. probably best to wait it out for a while and see what happens

From what I understand, Evo 3D's are CDMA devices and are 99% worthless outside of the U.S. however, I did read an article stating that HTC listed the Evo 3D with quadband capabilities (GSM being one of them of course) the only problem is I'm not 100% sure if they did that because it really "is" quadband capable or if that just applies to international or special models. Maybe someone else will beat me to it and fully answer ur question. Your best bet is to try and find out if ur friends Evo 3D is quadband capable, if so, u might be able to use it in India by GSM. If it is only a CDMA device, its probably gna be worthless unless u want to be paying some pretty costly roaming charges

Im pretty sure that the EVO 3d is only dual band. the photon 4g is tri or quad band. The evo 3d doesnt have a sim card slot either so it doesnt have gsm capabilities.

thank u friends for ur quick replies...one of my friends was able to use evo 4g here,so i thought this also might work.Still i will wait for some solid answer B-)

thought there was gonna be a gsm version
Isn't the evo 3d gsm version releasing in france within 2 weeks?
(i might be wrong, just stating what i read)
Sorry, just read the post and no..., an evo 3d bought in the USA on sprint's cdma network by no means can be used on gsm networks...
Don't know whether it can be used on cdma networks in other countries, however i highly doubt it.

EVO 3D has both GSM and CDMA. I am getting the EVO 3d GSM from the US soon. I have checked on gsmarena which says that EVO 3D gsm is quadband.

I have sprint evo 3d working on reliance CDMA in india.
It cam with hboot 1.30/1.40 ( i didnt remember) but **** i upgraded the hboot to 1.50.

HTC Rider?

I understood that the HTC Rider is going to be the GSM version of the EVO and will be released in europe/asia but i dont see much details about in on the net and since im not from the USA, i would need the GSM version
Does it has a release date already? i saw the EVO will be out on June 4th but thats for the american market right?
I am asking cuz i want to get the sensation, but i saw the EVO and thought perhaps i should wait a bit
No one knows about a GSM version for Europe?
It hasn't even officially been announced as a gsm version even though we 110% know it exist.

Hi Mates,

I bot the phone in india through ebay. It supports GSM.
Phone performance is as gud as iphone.

[Q] Will there be a GSM Unlocked Version of E3D?

Im already on board for the Sprint Evo 3D! But my friend has At&t and cant switch due to his wife HAS to have her iphone. I was wondering if anyone has any info on the release of a UNLOCKED gsm version that might go on sale overseas that could be used on at&t or tmo.
Im not debating whether or not there will be a GSM version, This we know there will be one..
I have scoured the net for info and all the stuff I can find is outdated (over a month old) stuff saying there might be a GSM e3d. Does vodaphone sell carrier unlocked phones, If so I may just tell him to get the gs2. If the gsm e3d is locked to a overseas carrier.
thanks
tell him to get the Lg thrill I believe it's coming to AT&t next month that's their version of the optimus 3D

[Q] query regarding cdma network and rooting on evo 3D

In our area , there is available EVO3D cdma for cheap rate, it has a T-mobile logo on it, but the buyer says tht he has unlocked it for reliance cdma network
question is if i root it and put a custom rom on it, will it still be unlocked at reliance or it will be locked ??
if it has t-mo branding on it, it's probably gonna be the sensation, which is not the evo 3d. Secondly, t-mo is gsm only. If I were you, I'd verify if it really is the 3d, not the sensation, but I'm sure it will be the latter (if it isn't some scam to begin with)

I'm fairly certain my CDMA EVO 3D will NOT ever operate on a GSM network w/o changing the radio hardware inside.
Unless the GSM version comes with both radios inside, it will be impossible for it to operate on a CDMA network. "Unlocked" is generally a GSM term as GSM devices can be unlocked and then operate on any carrier.
Where as CDMA devices have to be programmed for a specific carrier. The programming process for a CDMA device can be a bit complex for people w/o computer experience.
Hope that helps clarify! I'm sure somebody else with more knowledge on the EUR versions of the GSM EVO 3Ds can chime in from their experience.
EDIT: posted while i was replying...

Also very great point! Don't think there is any GSM EVO 3D version being officially sold in the US under the TMO or ATT brand (the two largest GSM companies in the US). Perhaps a foreign GSM version of the EVO 3D, once "unlocked", could operate on a US GSM carrier such as TMO or ATT, but fairly confident TMO and ATT havent ever sold a GSM EVO 3D.
As a double check, if you wanted, a quick glance at the line up of phones available on their web site should help clarify. Or if you really wanted, call their customer service departments and ask about a EVO 3D or any type of 3D device to see what they have to offer.

[Q] World phone capability

If the qualdcom processor on the EVO is ment to support LTE which in turn uses a sim card shouldn't that make the phone a world phone I know it is suppose to have an embeded sim. But my true question is will we be able to reporgram the sim once we get root or will write have to go with more of a hardware mod if we wish to make it a world phone.

Sprint uses embedded LTE technology to my knowledge, so its not like on Verizon where there is an LTE sim card. Also, this phone is a CDMA phone, and therefore does not have a regular sim card slot (Like phones on ATT or TMo). No software modifications will change this, and I highly doubt that anyone could even attempt to make a hardware modification to make this phone a world phone. Also, and LTE sim card is not the same as a regular sim card, as they perform different actions (access to LTE and the rest of the network is seperate).
Yeah I was thinking that it does not have the slot the thing is that the processor does support gsm also I was kinda hopeing it was like the rezound it is cdma phone on Verizon. It was found out that just by removing verizons LTE sim card and adding a gsm one it allowed the phone to work as a gsm phone.
the evo lte does not have the GSM and HSPA+ radios to be a world phone
When I preordered, the rep told me it was a world phone. I didn't think she was right but I didn't say anything.
Yeah i read the same post on Engadget i think. What a bummer was hopping it was since it is rocking the same processor that the at&t one (correct me if im wrong). Plus like i also stated was hopping it was like the HTC rezound on Verizon that with a experiment it ended up working. O well .... still kinda wanna take it apart and try wouldn't be xda without some experimenting or moding.
My friend has a Droid bionic which wasn't supposed to have GSM support, but it did through some hacks on rootzwiki and using a T-Mobile sim card. I think that the s4 includes a GSM radio, so its probably possible at least if the sim card can be accessed. Lte is GSM based so it is likely that GSM support is there if software is modified like it was on the bionic.

Sure, you can use it anywhere in the world that has a compatible CDMA network.
Many identify world phone with GSM radios (which the Evo 4G LTE does not have), but CDMA (which it does have) does work well for roaming in Asia.
I've roamed with my Evo 4G across Japan, Korea, and China for both voice and data. There's a full list of countries with CDMA roaming on the Sprint website. As soon as you arrive in country (if roaming works), you receive a free text with the rates and instructions on how to make international calls.

[Q] Evo 3D CDMA to GSM is it possible???

Hi
Is it possible to use CDMA version of EVO 3D with GSM band??? I know that there is no SIM card slot on board but except this PCB looks very similar.
Of cource firmware is different aswell, but I saw on forum that someone use ROM from CDMA version on GSM model even without changing H-boot, so porting from GSM to CDMA should work aswell??
And last thing if I will flash radio from GSM into CDMA I will permanently brick my phone or I will be able to repair it with bootloader??
Thanks for replay....
Erm... Quite simply... No. Too risky as software / hardware differences will leave you with an irrecoverable brick.
There are no drivers for GSM to CDMA bands etc.
People do change their bands with Custom Roms but im pretty sure that it isn't easy at all.
Invest in a GSM version. They have dropped severely in price.
