[Q] Help to root Stock GB 2.3.3 - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just installed GB via flash 0.291 with the file X10i_3.0.1.G.0.75_1241-1846.ftf
I found out that it is not pre-rooted. What are my options? Is there a pre-rooted version of GB that I can flash with? Can someone please point the file that I can flash.
Thx.

Yes, theres a pre-rooted version rolling out!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192152

But it is not a 200mb+ ftf file that I can simply flash.

Is there a way to root the GB stock instead of re-installing?

No seperate root at this time...

have the same issue. I tried Super1click root and gingerbreak1.20.apk both are not sucessful.

I also have another issue, using flashtools 0.291, after flashing the old firmware 2.1.54, it doesnt automatically root the phone. Anyone encountered this too?

looked like there is mix results with downgrading back to 2.1. some say it aborts half way and other says it works perfectly.
The issue however is on how to get a rooted stock GB ROM. is there a way to dump the firmware or get it from the PC somewhere and pre-root it? or is there one already done that I can use with flash tool?

After allot of looking around in how to....
this topic just popup in to my eye's and workt perfect for me.

[Q] Stock GB?

Question....
I was running stock 2.2 rooted. Did not mess with debloating or freezing or nothing just had root for wifi tether and screenies.
I seen the update for 2.3 a couple nights ago and even thinking about it, I let it install.
Well now im on GB and I have SU in my apps, but I dont really have root.
My question is ... what do/can I do now....
Can I just put on p3s Official Gingerbread for the Droid X2 - 2.3.3/4.5.1A-DTN-117-15 (Rooted) ?
Or do I need to flash back to 2.2 re root agian then flash his 2.3.3 rooted?
Also... I dont have any like boot stap thing loaded... do I have to have that to load sbfs? or can I just toss em on the root of my SD card and name update.zip and boot it up?
Sorry, kinda new to this....so please be kind
As far as I know u have to sbf back to 2.2 then fallow the p3 guide to prerooted 2.3 there should ba solid guide for how to do the whole process in the developers section

[Q] RUU 2.3.4...Can I Root and install custom ROMs?

Hey everyone, I am new to the rooting world however I have only experienced good things. I decided to root my thunderbolt using TB Autoroot+htc sync last night(had the original stock froyo, was going to installed cyanogen mod 7) and was successful. Unfortunately, I then installed the leaked 2.3.4 RUU GB which rerooted my TB before I installed the cm7(wanted to try the RUU out, bad idea lol). I was wondering if all or any of these are possible (dont care about losing data, just don't want to brick, ie avoiding command lines if possible):
1. root the phone while maintaining the leaked 2.3.4 RUU, just as was done for FROYO? Original reason for rooting was to remove the bloatware apps, but not having custom roms would be ok at this point if that is this is the only option. I know there is the revolution method to root, however will that work on the leaked 2.3.4 RUU?
2. root the tb with my current 2.3.4 RUU and install the BAMF 2.3.4/sense 3.0 GB build, or some other custom 2.3.4 rom?
A tutorial or walk through would be great! I know there are some out there, however I am looking for one specifically for those that have the leaked 2.3.4 RUU on the thunderbolt.
Also, can someone explain the difference in features of the GB builds that have been out for some time(customs) vs the RUU by verizon? I'm not talking about the physical aspects or the apps that come with, but more in terms of installing/switching between them. I know I need to root in order to install the custom roms, but assuming i can root the 2.3.4 RUU, will I be able to install any other 2.3.4 rom such as BAMF or cyanogen without problems? I have heard that you just arent allowed to go backwards, ie back to Froyo one you update to GB, but I should be able to install any 2.3.4 GB ROM once rooted via the bootloader(power+volume down) True?
Any help would be great! Thanks!
Yes you can. Just use revolutionary to root the new GB build. Here is a video tutorial for you.
Well, here comes your first less than pleasant reply...
Pretty much everything you wanted to know is posted in my thread stickied in the Q&A section. That's also where this post is going to end up. Please check my thread on basic noob questions, search before posting, and post in the correct forum.

If you are rooted, just use a program like root explorer to search for a file called otacerts.zip and rename it to otacerts.bak
When you open root explorer, make sure to put it into write mode. look at the top left side of the program and press on the mount r/w option
Cant find rom

If you used your phone to download a rom, its in the "download" folder, move it to the root of sd card

I downloaded and installed Android USB Drivers.
I selected USB Debugging

What am I missing and where can I get it? Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks in advance...
I've never rooted but I believe you need to downgrade. Revolutionary does not work with the latest OTA. There are several posts around that explain how to downgrade to the previous OTA (link below). Then you should be able to use the revolutionary method.

Yes you need to downgrade to 2.11.605.5 then use reveloutionary

[Q] I have an i9100 with MIUI installed. I would like to flash back to ICS. How?

I have a i9100 rooted CWM (forgot the kernel name) and MIUI installed. I would like to change to the most currect ICS available for it without using custom roms.
Selling to a friend who wants it more or less reverted to the manufacturer. I live in the US and I seem to need assistance with this as its been a while since I've done it.
I'd like to get the best kernel on there too and root after flashing back to ICS as well as keeping my contacts on my sd card.
Search for a stock ics firmware and flash it with Odin.
Here a post that may help you.
Is it just a matter of installing from the SD card like you normally would when flashing custom roms?
Would it lose the root?
Also, the post you mentioned doesnt have any american versions of the ROM. Would that matter? Im just wanting to make sure it will work with ATT and be in English
Here a thread with more information.
With Odin you must connect the phone to PC in download mode and yes, you will lose root flashing a stock firmware. After you can flash an insecure kernel (Chainfire's for example) and gain root again.
What do you mean by insecure Kernel?
And is it going to matter if I install the rom from a different country?

How to get .62 and root access

Hi all,
I am currently using a ICS based custom rom on my LWW and the battery drain is driving me insane.
I'm hoping that I can simply install GB (with root access) then begin to uninstall all the unnecessary programs accordingly.
My question is what is the simplest method in doing this? I thought about installing 4.0.2.A.0.62 version but I don't know how to gain root access in this (.58 is easy to get root access on). In searching for solutions, people on this forum agree that a person should flash to .58 then do a OTA update to reach .62. However when i did this (through wotan server) I selected Australia (where i'm from) but was only given the option to upgrade to ICS version, not the .62 GB
I am just wondering what is the simplest way i can get .62 and also get root access?
Regards
Jay
P.S: I'm looking for a simple GB version but all seem to be quite heavily modded (plain .62 GB version with the basics mods ) which seem to have few glitches/bugs
You don't need to purchase the firmware for your region, just use a generic :good:
Search for a .42/.58 firmware, root it and do an ota update (via wifi) to .62

Hey
Ok, i did get manage to get to .58 and then got a option of upgrading to .62. However my phone stopped working (green blicking every time i tried turning it on). The phone refused to turn on.
I used the 'UnbrokingXperia2011' pack listed on the tutorial to get my phone working.
At the moment it's charging and is on .58. I just received the upgrade message (upgrade to .62) to upgrade. I'm wondering will this do it again?
I read that if I have a unlocked bootloader, it causes issues?
I still have no way to upgrade to .62 with root access

Yes, OTA updates brick the Phone if your bootloader is unlocked.. I came across this yesterday while searching for links for my guide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688980 - which you could try.

Hi there,
Thank you, yes on my third attempt i was successful
YAY! .62 with root!
However believing that i should flash custom kernal, i flashed X kernel 2.6.32.59 (flashed wlan fix then kernal) without wiping anything - just went into recovery and flashed it straight. Everything works fine except i can't turn on my wifi :/
I tried replacing it with Rage Kernal 3.0 but it still get an error when i try to turn on wifi.
I'm hoping i don't have to reflash the whole thing
Thank you
Edit:
I cleared Dalv Cache and then flashed the wlan again but i'm still receiving the error. I should of backed up my wlan
Any way to solve this issue?

Flash the Kernel first, reboot to home screen, reboot then flash modules, then reboot again.

Hi there,
Ok
These are the steps i followed:
Flashed the X Kernal via FlashTools
Booted to home
Turned off phone then rebooted into CWM
Flashed the wlanv4 zip
Rebooted home
Tried to turn on wifi but getting the same message, "Error"
So then i did the same thing again but before i flashed the wlanv4 zip, i wiped the Dalv Cache to see if it made a difference. It didn't
Still stuck with the same "Error"
Also tried to flash bbooff;s Kernal through CWM and flashboot.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25499983&postcount=101
but getting the same error
Edit 2:
Ok, i reflashed the whole thing. I'm now stuck again :/
After rooting .58 then using the Xperia-Root option given by puppet13th i keep getting a white blinking light with reboots. It just going round and round.
Argh!
Just need a simple .62 GB for LWW with Root! hehe
Damn i need to ask someone to do it for me. I tried doing it on my own but it didn't work out the way i wanted it to be (reboot loop).
Sigh*
Edit 3:
Is there a place i could request this? A rooted .62 LWW flashable rom? There doesn't seem to be one around on the forums (that i could find).
Regards
When you reflash the stock ROM is it restoring your WiFi?

Hi there,
Yes i am on .58 at the moment. It won't boot to .62 (White LED, continues to blink then phone reboots again) when i tried to follow the steps provided by puppet13th.
I have been looking and trying to figure out a way that i can make a rootable .62 for my LWW
I've zipped it under normal compression with WINRAR. Let's see how it flows ...
Wish me luck :fingers-crossed:

[Q] Phone is alive but stuck on ventilator on GB

Hello All. I had installed SHOStock 3.0.1. Then I somehow thought that I will back ROM and that reminds me of ROM Manager which I installed ages back . Clicked on backup which restarted the phone and then phone didnt start ever. So I put back Stock Gingerbread UCKH7. But now after that when I am trying to update using AT&T software update, it is giving me error that software cannot be installed due to interrupation. When I try to install from Kies, office laptop does not recongnize my phone. Home laptop do recongnize the phone but gives message that this version of Android is not supported to upgrade by Kies. I dont know how shall I proceed. When I try to install stock ICS downlaoded from some XDA thread using ODIN, it is not doing anything. Tried to use Exynos Abuse to root but not working. Any other tool to root? Is it ok to directly install some Jelly Bean ROM after root on Gingerbread or shall I go for ICS first then JB? PS: Tried to read thr' all stickies and Q & A but could not find proper answer. Thanks in Advance.
I hope you didn't do any permanent damage by using rom manager. If you did all the reading you mentioned, you probably saw, after the fact, the sticky thread warning not to use rom manager.
First, you can not do an over the air update any longer; the only way to update officially is via kies. Not sure what is blocking kies, but you might try entering 3e recovery and performing a wipe data/factory reset, then see if kies will install the update. You do have to be bone stock for kies to work, I think. Rooted may be ok. Not sure exactly what elements causes kies to fail.
I mention the possibility of damage because you say:

You should be able to flash any of the stock firmware via Odin.
If you want to go the custom firmware route, you can install a custom kernel, then use ClockworkMod Recovery to install your custom firmware. You should be able to do this from any version, Gingerbread, ICS or JB.
You can root by flashing one of the stock plus root packages. Exynos Abuse only worked with 4.0.3 I think. The exploit was patched. People have been using Framaroot to root stock 4.1.2, and I believe someone mentioned using it successfully on ICS as well. Results posted here have been mixed but generally successful.
There are several resources in the Download Repository. See the link in my signature.
Will try tonight

I used your root to official ICS. Then I rooted Exynos to root. Thank you. Do I still need to have CWM after this? I am planning to install Helly Bean please let me know.,

Assuming that Helly Bean uses a CWM flashable zip file, as almost all rom's do, then you will need to install a custom kernel containing a CWM recovery. You can not flash rom's from stock recovery or Odin.
