I had my phone stock 4.5.91 and ran mramirezusa's program to unlock/root/install cwm to my phone. After I did it I ended up with a factory reset, and I then restored my phone through a backup with Titanium Backup. After this I got the weird problem. I guess I must have restores my lock screen password and finger print data with Ti. However, now when I unlock my screen I am greeted with the "enter PIN to unlock screen" but there is no password for it. All I have to do is hit enter and I get through. So I tried to factory reset the phone, but when I do it under the privacy menu it asks me to swipe my finger real quick and then it exits the screen so I am not able to! Weird! Anyway what else are my options? On top of this my vibrate does not work anymore. Thanks in advance guys!!
Did you just restore app+ data or did you did system data too. Cause that's a nono lol
And id try fastbooting or sbf to a fresh build

crap..
Hmmm I guess I did restore all system data... I did not know you werent supposed to do that. So in the future only restore the apps with data? And also if I flash straight to the alien build will that be ok?
Yeah if your making drastic changes like unlocking the bootloader I wouldn't restore system data because things have changed. And it'll mess up. Its best to stick to just using titanium to back up apps and remove bloat. And you can try ti go to alien. I don't see a problem. But don't hold me to that lol anything can happen
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
what version were you restoring from?
Here's the solution same thing happened to me way back when also when you back up using TiBu make sure to not have the finger print or security selected restoring that data messes it up.
1. Get the program SQlite editor & root explorer.
2. Using root explorer goto directory: /data/data/com.motorola.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
3. select settings
4. scroll down to lock_type; lock_fingerprint; lock_timer
5. Long press on each and delete.
6. Reboot phone and you're good to go
From unlocked/rooted GB Atrix
When you restore a backup never restore system data
And always be carefully with app+data best way app only
But any way I think best way to restore as follow (note this is service sbf and, so supposed to preserve data but always be aware to have a backup)
Download the following file:
http://www.filesonic.com/file/150732...PE_P011.sbf.gz
and unzip it at the same location you unzip my menu script, you will ended with a file with .sbf extension like this:
1FF-olympus-user-2.3.4-4.5.91-110625-release-keys-signed-ATT-US-GAS_NA_OLPSGBATTSPE_P011.sbf
So now do this:
1. TURN OFF your phone
2. PRESS VOL UP while you turn on
3. Hold until it said RSD....... , so now you are in RSD mode -> connect the phone to the pc
4. Then go to the folder with the menu script and run the following file: "SDL.exe"
5. It will show up the RSDlite moto screen
6. Under filename press "..." and select the file you just download & unzipped:
1FF-olympus-user-2.3.4-4.5.91-110625-release-keys-signed-ATT-US-GAS_NA_OLPSGBATTSPE_P011.sbf
7. Check if in file description said 2.3.4.....
8. Press start (Remember you must have a phone with charge 80% and if you are doing this in a laptop please connect it to AC)
9. Wait until reboot... and said status PASS in the RSDlite (take a while)
10. Then you can re run menu script options 1 from the first menu 3 on the second menu.
11. And re apply root option from the menu
Remember: once you are GB 2.3.4/4.5.91 YOU CAN NOT RSD ANY DOWNGRADE SBF FROM MOTO FOR EXAMPLE 1.83/1.47
BUT you can still downgrade by CWM or moto-fastboot commands
I hope it help

What does it mean to flash a rom? Like install it?
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
Yes, it means to install it. The process is similar to formatting your computer's hard drive & installing a new operating system.
You've got to be rooted & have a recovery image installed (hopefully you installed one as part of your rooting) search the forums for more on that if you aren't sure.
Short-version how-to:
1. Back up your data, apps, & even your SD card just to be safe. It shouldn't be a problem if you do things right, but still...
2. copy the ROM of choice into the root area of your sd card (not in a sub-folder)
3. turn off phone. Boot phone into "recovery" by holding the Up-vol button when you turn on the phone - keep holding the up-volume until the menu pops up. (if no menu comes up, you didn't install a recovery image - search for "amon-ra" in the forums)
4. Go to "backup & restore" and make a "nand backup" which will backup your current ROM, settings, etc.
5. Wipe system. Wipe Dalvik. Don't skip this step.
6. choose "flash zip from SD card", scroll down to the ROM you downloaded & let 'er rip!
7. Reboot when it finishes flashing & find something to do for the 10 minutes it may take for your phone to reboot.
8. Set it up & enjoy!
Sweet man. Yeha I guess when I rooted it it put the recovery image on there. I've been using rom manager to back an change roms.

Hello.
When I got my new vibrant a few weeks ago, I put on nero 3 and it was blazing fast. Then I put on Nero 4 and it looked like it slowed down for some reason, then I put on another rom and it seems even slower
I just kept reflashing via clockwork recovery, without deleting the previous roms first, I just overwrited....
Someone told me to do ODIN to stock before putting another rom on your phone....well I dont know how to do ODIN to go back to 2.1.....and also if I do ODIN then I will lose unlock right?
Any help?
Ok,first backup all your contacts n payer appear if you have any, then reboot ur phone into recovery.
Use the volume rocker to scroll up n down and if you are in the red menu select voodoo lagfix with the power button then follow the menu to disable it then select go back, then install zip from sd card then scroll down and check on downloads, if you downloaded your toms to the sd the zip file. Should. Be there.
B4 reinstall delete all data and cache select go back to do this then select install zip from sd to go back n scroll down to downloads n select your rom zip then select yes n you should be done.
Now be patient let it boot n give it like15 minutes. Then reboot again to fix bugs then wait again b4 you use it otherwise it will be buggy again

Sorry, it just bothered me. Backup all of your apps. Not just the ones you paid for.
Have you checked to make sure that Voodoo was enabled? I believe there's an app in the Market called Voodoo Toggle that can help.
Also, if your phone is running slowly, there are a couple things you can try before flashing a whole new ROM. Check to see if there are any frozen services slowing up your phone. Go into Settings > Applications > Running Services and see if anything is stuck on "Restarting..." If it is, tap to stop the process and you may even want to consider freezing the service in Titanium Backup if this happens often. Another thing to do is fix permissions in ROM Manager. You will need to do one of the fixes in this thread before you run Fix Permissions. I recommend the one in post 3 because it's easiest. I do both these things when my phone slows up drastically, and it's worked every time.
You may also wish to trying clearing cache and dalvik-cache from the Recovery menu.
I have a Mac and have never been able to ODIN back to stock between flashes. My phone is still very snappy and doesn't really give me any problems.
I installed a wrong camera.apk on my GS2 (Kernel XWKG1) but when I deleted the apk from system/app the icon in the application menu didn't disappear.
Now I installed the modified version of camera.apk for GS2 and it works, but I still have a different icon that I cannot delete because it's seen as a system app.
If i try to delete again the new camera.apk the only icon that goes away is the right one.
Is there a way to delete the wrong one?
PS:Can someone send me the original camera.apk for my phone?
See if the rouge shows in Titanium, if so, just use Titanium to un-install and reboot into CWM Recovery clearing dalvik.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I'm sorry, but I'm pretty new about those things.
Titanium is an app for backup right? In any case I can't see camera.apk in the list.
And then what is it the "recovery clearing dalvik"?
There are a number of ways to enter Recovery. Some are:
1. If your custom ROM has an advanced power menu APM (when you press the power button and then select reboot, there will usually be an option for recovery.
2. Use Chainfire's CWM app.
3. Power off, hold volume up + menu + power button. In that order. Keep all pressed until in recovery mode.
Once in recovery, navigate to (I think) wipe.... Or advanced....
Just look for dalvik cache and wipe/delete.
You can navigate buy using volume = up/down, power = back, home = select.
If you cannot access this recovery, you don't have it installed. Easiest way is by flashing a custom ROM / kernel combo or Chainfire's CF root kernel. Root required.
Titanium backup is a app for backing up apps and data,.as well as much more.....
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
OK, so, I have the "reboot into clockworkmod recovery" in CWM.
This is what I need, right? When I'm in recovery mode I will be able to delete the icon from the menu?
To exit that recovery mode I just have to reboot the phone normally?
Thanks.
As I said, just wipe/delete dalvik cache and reboot. See what happens. It will take a few minutes to boot, don't worry.
In Recovery you can also flash custom rom (flashable zip from sdcard) and make restore nan-backups etc. Best to back up like this before updating rom, flashing themes etc so you can return if you don't like new or have issues.
To exit recovery, you can navigate to reboot phone/system or power off.

Sorry, I didn't do exactly as you told me, but I solved the problem.
I first tried to uninstall the app using titanium, it worked for a while but never finishing, so I killed titanium app and then, if I clicked on the wrong app, instead of saying "forced interruption" it said "application not installed on the phone", but the icon was still there.
Then I tryed to reboot on recovery mode, but I didn't do anything in that, only clicked reboot and then the icon was chanced in a sheet with SD written on it, I clicked on modify and then it let me erase the icon just like a normal app.
Thanks anyway for the support!
Now I have another little problem though, when I shutdown the phone, instead of remaining off it reboots automatically.
What could it be?
What rom and kernel are you using, themes, and made any changes recently... Apart from above?
Also, are you undervolt / overclock cpu?
Edit: also try a battery pull for a few minutes, or reflash rom, or worst case, full wipe in recovery followed immediately by flashing rom.
There are a number of app that can backup apps and data, including titanium,.the pro version allows batch restore and much more. Can also repair market links etc.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I used the modified kernel just to root the phone and then reflashed the original kernel, no themes, no overclocking.
Now I try with the battery pull.
EDIT: battery pull didn't work.
EDIT2: Reflashing kernel with odin, yes!it worked!
Excellent

With all this talk about better option non the horizon, I've decided to try and sell mine. It is rooted. Is there a easy and thorough way to erase all traces of my data but leave it rooted (that was the main selling point for the buyer).
best option would be to do a factory reset then reroot the device

Wrong if its just data can be done by erase/deregistering the device...
How to erase/deregister (Wipe Data): Go to Settings> Device Info> Erase and Deregister Device - This will clean your data (All your sideloaded apps and settings will be gone)

I just Erased/Deregistered mine today and nearly all of my sideloaded apps survived the procedure. Evernote, Scorecenter, and Dropbox had even remembered my user info/password.
It is my understanding that Erase/Deregister only affects /Data .
If this is the case, then the surefire way to wipe the device is to use a 1.4.0 sdcard and restore the device to fresh-out-of-the-box status.
Don't want to attempt to reset and restore root as that is the selling point for the buyer and I don't want the risk of not getting it re-rooted.
If you dont mind having a really brand new NT, and really want it to be clean, and when I mean clean I'm talking out of the box clean, use the flowing commands.
Code:
adb echo -n '0000' > /bootloader/BootCnt
will this also unroot the device?
Settings> Device Info> Erase and Deregister Device

No it wont, it just wipes data.
Edit : just try it, trust me.
Edit2: if you ever moved apps from data/app to system/app then those in system wont be removed you have to manually uninstall them using another app for that purpose BEFORE you start the erase/deregistering process.

When you wipe data means all your installed apps will be gone not your personal data like passwords only. But root is still there. Now if you had a titanium backup of your apps then just run a batch restore of "apps only" not "apps+data" that way your personal information wont restore.

Root is accessed by applications that need it like titanium backup or while in adb when you run "adb remount" for example.

Install one of these to change the behavior of the 'n' button:

Alternatively, install Button Savior to provide softkeys. Button Savior's home key will allow you to choose a default launcher, but leave the 'n' key as it is -- it will take you to the default, B&N, homescreen.
installed both via Sideload Wonder machine. Nothing. N button still dead. Where di I find button savior? Is there something esle I should be doing.
Plugging into my pc, the android marketplace still sees my NT and the apps on it - i just can't get to them

Did you reinstall SuperUser? None of these will work unless you have. The deregistering process removes the SuperUser app, but leaves root intact.
no - i will and report back. do i need to reboot?
Installed - still nothing. Everything appears when connected to my pc through android market "my library." The problem is, nothing is showing on my screen and the n button does nothing. Seems like there is a step in this puzzle missing - how I access these apps.
Phone: Samsung GT-i9100

Case: trying to port apps and data from one i9100 to another i9100.
Hello
I have installed latest Helium app (1.1.4.0 free version) on my phone and Helium app on windows 7 pro. I have followed every step in the guide and everything is working flawlessly so far. When the Helium server is started on my phone and I access the webpage (192.168...:5000) I select the apps I want to backup (data only not ticked) I click the big Backup button. A file named backup.zip is saved on my computer.
After a few unsuccessful attempts on porting apps and data I started looking in the zip file. the size is exactly 153 bytes no matter how many apps I decide to backup. The zip fil contains a file named backup.json. the size of this file is exactly 15 bytes and it contains the text:
{"packages":[]}
Thats it. I get the same file even if I tick Data Only when I back up the selected files.
I have rebooted the phone and the computer 2 times. I have used IE, Chrome and Firefox. No luck.
So what I do is:
I start Helium on my computer.
I start Helium on my phone.
I connect the phone to my computer via the usb cable.
When Helium on my computer says everything is ok(I see the green tick) and the same on my phone I disconnect the phone.
I start the Helium server on my phone by tapping PC Download in Helium's menu.
I enter the url written on my phone (192.168.....).
I select the apps I want to backup.
I dont tick the little "Backup App Data Only" box at the Backup button.
I press Backup.
The result is a 153 bytes zip file...
Have I missed something?

Okay. So far I have figured out how to make a backup. I found an answer in a thread on androidcentral. (Sorry. But I cant post the link due to spamming reasons as I'm new here and this is my second post.)
When the connection is made between the Helium app on py computer and the Helium app on my phone I have to unplug and replug the usb cable _before_ I press PC Download!
If I want to make a backup directly to my phone's SD card I have to unplug and replug the usb cable for every app I want to backup. Otherwise I get a message like "Something went wrong. A report is sent to the developers" or something like that.
My next issue is to restore the backup on another phone. When I use the web interface the zip file seems to get uploaded and thats it. Still no app or data on the new phone. So now I'll try to backup to the SD card, move the SD card to the new phone and restore it from that point.
Ps. Thanks for moving this thread to the right forum. I apparently missed the Q&A forum when I looked for it.
Thank you so much for the quick solution... I was banging my head against the wall for not being able to restore data due to this problem. All I was seeing is "Restore complete" within seconds of pressing "Restore" button however, no application or data was restored.
Because of your solution, I managed to migrate my device without problems.
Thank you so much, this solution saved me quite some time
I've been trying to make a backup trough Helium for many many hours with absolutely no luck. I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in as you mentioned but it doesn't do anything. Whenever I try to backup trough the Android app it tells me I have to set the Desktop Backup Password as blank but its already blank and when I try trough the web interface I get a 153bytes file every single time no matter if I try to backup 1 app or all of them its always 153bytes.
