Headset jack/audio/ sound - HTC EVO 3D

I don't know where to post this but ill put it here. The problem we have with the headphones jack, where the sounds cuts in and out, its it a hardware problem or software. If it is software is there anyway DEVS can builds roms with something stopping this from happening. And please don't say headset blocker that **** don't work. I'm driving and my sounds just cut for no reason at all and I can't do anything about it. Unplug, turn the widget on/off, start music, stop diff app nothing. Is anyone having this problem as extreme as me? It sucks waiting for it to play when it wants

I know what you mean, I've had it pull up voice commands/call people/change songs if you even just slightly touch the aux cable. This only happens in my car, I haven't reproduced it with headphones. I'm on my 2nd 3vo for this and the problems are even worse on this phone. Sometimes it will scroll through all of my songs really fast or play a whole song in fast forward.
I think it might have to do with the cable since my headphones don't do it, or it could be a voltage change/sensor problem that detects when you pull the jack out it turns the music off, could just be going haywire.

Bump?

I repair cell phones and its one of two things. One the copper contacts inside the jack are bent. If one does not make contact and will not play or only play on one channel thus one speaker works the other does not. The second is your headphones are damaged or of low quality. Try different pairs. My skull candy set sucks. I doubt software although if your modding or installing sketch apps its possible. One possible fix is to take a q tip and 90 % alcohol and clean the jack. If there is gunk on the contacts this will fix otherwise hardware. Hope this helps.

Install headset blocker from market.
It is a toggle widget you put on your homescreen
Enable it when you plug in a cable.
This should stop the random control issues.

*Solved* Hiss from headphone jack

I tried my evo 3d in my cars aux in today and noticed an annoying hiss that wouldn't go away even if i turned the volume on the phone right down to nothing. when the weather animation sound plays i hear the hiss but it goes away as soon as it stops. It seems when it is doing any audio processing I hear the hiss.
Anyone else have this issue?
Thanks
I found a solution to the problem but you need to buy this http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-Reducing-SmartPhone-including-iPhone/dp/B0031U1ATQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320968215&sr=8-1

Does anyone know how the samsungs do with music I hate unwanted noise although it's the worst in my car but I can still hear it in the headphones.
Any difference if it is charging or not? If it is really bad when charging then it is a ground loop...

I was having that problem with my Zune and my XM back in the day. It works perfectly.
I noticed my ipod touch is way louder and the hiss doesn't change when the volume is all the way up or down. I wonder if we can boost the volume then it wouldn't be so noticeable.
It has something to do with the hardware. The ground loop isolator KiamatDusk suggested may help (not sure because I haven't used one) but better quality hardware has better signal to noise ratios. I'd say try the ground loop but otherwise I don't think there's anything you can do.
Thanks KiamatDusk I looked into this and updated the OP to show what I bought that completely fixed the problem no more his guys

What's your techniques on getting the best audio out of speakers?

When I'm in my car listening to music through my note I'm always having a problem with getting the most out of my car speakers
For example: (I have equalizers btw) ill dim the volume on the phone but raise the car volume
Sometimes its better or worse when you raise the phone volume all the way and handle it wig the car speakers
Although the lower the phone volume he more, "clear" from the speakers -but not as loud
SO WHAT DO U GUYS DO TO ADJUST YOUR MUSIC

Yup, that's the way to do it, maybe even 80-90%...unless of course you want to save more battery, then you'd lower the phone volume more

Max out volume on proamp, head unit eq on flat, tweak the eq on proamp, adjust the gain if sounds overdone. I've also set all proamp eq levels on max and its loud as hell

Just have a stock radio in car. No amps or anything but the stock is a decent unit for my needs. I turn the phone about 90% up then adjust from the car unit. Sound is always good for me. I'd say experiment and see what works for you. Don't forget to try an equalizer on and off from the phone. It's really a personal taste thing in my view.
I max out the volume on the note and adjust through the car speakers. I'm having to use an FM transmitter also, as my '05 doesn't have aux in. Still, it sounds great. Even better once i flashed the Beats eq.

In this case your phone is essentially a pure amp while your head unit is the power amp. Even at Max volume, your phone shouldn't be distorting the volume output. You want it all the way or nearly all the way up to allow as much headroom as possible for your power amp. You also don't want to re eq an eqd signal. Decide whether you like your phones or your stereos eq better, and set the other flat. You'll almost always have to tweak a bit further as line in mp3 will have different sound characteristics as a CD or the radio. Also, for the love of God, don't use 128kbps songs like most people.

The one thing I'm trying to figure out is engine noise.
Anyone else getting that or even know what I'm talking about?
if I have my phone plugged into my via head phone jack and nothing is playing on it, you hear a high pitch noise that fluctuates according to the rpms of the engine.
Would be awesome if there was an app to white noise it out or something, haven't checked though.

Do a search on 'inline noise suppressor'. This might help. You could also look at moving the radio's ground wire to a different location and might solve your noise.

Thanks for the response, don't know about the ground wire solution, but will definitely search for the inline noise suppressor

After looking that up, I have determined that is not the solution for me. I'm dealing with a factory, stock car aux setup, it shouldn't be giving me problems and as a matter of fact my prior iPhone 3g didn't have this problem at all. I believe this happens with two cars that I've used it in, so while it is related to the car and specifically the engine's RPMs, I believe this can be fixed via the phone for the following reason:
When I push the back button on the phone while it's plugged in it will briefly silence the noise, also when I play Pandora the noise only appears between songs, and no it's not still there being covered up, I would be able to distinguish it in the music.
Anyway, hope someone had another fix for this. Could potentially be a hot selling app if you could figure it out.

what else has changed besides the phone? the charger perhaps? where do you keep your phone? do you keep your phone on it's charger while you listen to it via your stereo?
I run a satilite radio in my truck that runs through an aux line I installed and I get engine noise for a couple of reasons. My aux line isn't heavy duty and sits next to my firewall and effected by the EMI of my engine. The power cable isn't shielded and doesn't have any in line suppression so it's effect from the truck alternator, no matter how clean the signal is, varries as your engine's RPMs move. I run into the same issues with my phone, all of this is in a Sierra Denali truck with a Bose system and also occurrs in my BMW. So no matter how much you paid for a vehicle, it still can be a factor.
So try an inline noise suppressor, they're like $10 at radio shack and if it doesn't work take it back.
You'd be surprised of the effects electricity and EMI will do to your audio.

Problem with head phone jack?

I can not get a good sound no matter what I do. I have always used power amp and never had a problem with sound. With my epic I always ran music thru my car stereo and it rocked. With this phone I got so mad today at how bad it sounded I just turned off.
I have tried every adjustment I could but no dice. It just sounds distorted no matter what I do. Do u think I have a defective one? Like I said my epic would rock and sounded so good so u would think this phone being the 3rd generation it would be better in sound quality also. I have tried the stock player to and it sounds worse.
Edit: forgot to mention I also had beats flashed onto the epic too.

Try the app from the play store called Volume+. I've used it only to modify the external speaker for better quality on other devices, but there are options to modify sound for the in call speaker & headset also. You'll want to select headset obviously as it just refers to audio out via the 3.5mm jack. I hope this helps you & your able to adjust the audio profile for better quality, as I've had success with this app, but I haven't used it on the gs3 yet?
I'll give that a try. I am also getting a buzzing at the beginning and around the
Middle of songs to. It's about a 1-2 s3 one buzz
Edit: just looked it up. Doesn't work on the Sprint version of the GS3 yet.

Ok, well there are other apps if you google search or search the play store & also look at the roms in your dev section & I will almost guarantee one of them has dsp manager or some sort of audio equalizer app included.
Now the buzzing noise is 95% one of two things. 1) The auxiliary outlet in your car stereo has an issue or it just gets a poor connection, this can happen sometimes in lower end after market head units or for other various reasons I'm sure.2) The auxiliary cable your using is causing it because of a short or because cheaper cables just get a ****ty connection & thus provide ****ty audio quality. Try buying a more expensive one and give it a shot as soon as you get to the parking lot, if the problem persists then you can walk right back in & tell them its not what you needed & get a refund. 3) Your phone has a bad 3.5mm jack. (This is possible, but probably the least likely)
Please report back what your results are after trying these few possible solutions. I think you'll have a viable fix here soon. I hope this helps out.
It's not a cheap deck lol it's Pioneer. The buzzing does it with the stock head phones and my after market jvc earbuds.
If I turn the volume up (headphones) halfway it's starts to sound distorted. With my epic I could rock the volume the whole way up with out any distortion.
I'm starting to wonder if it's the Jack. It's bad lol
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
I would take it back to Sprint it sounds like there is something wrong with the phone. Unless its the MP3 you are listening to is bad quality.

Calls going through auxiliary rather than Blue tooth

is there anyway for me to answer calls on the gs3 via blue tooth while listening to music through auxiliary without it playing from my radio? I have the phone playing through my auxiliary while I drive and am also connected fr Blue tooth but when I answer my calls by tapping talk on bkueooth it plays through auxiliary and its a pain driving and unplugging my phone

Nope. There are other threads about this. I wrote to Samsung on FB and my impression was that if enough people complain about it, they might fix it. Really dangerous in the car, as you have to unplug your cable to take a call on bluetooth.
I almost took my phone back because of this. The current work around is to use the Infuse 4G dock, which uses the USB port because the line out from that apparently plays nicely with Bluetooth. Or use a newer Bluetooth module that supports media streaming....
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
This is a ****ty decision on Samsung's part, major flaw in the design of the phone. The E4GT was the same way.
You MUST use a car mount, or bluetooth audio. I wonder if you can use an app to trick car mode, that may fix it.
I do that with the app Car Mode (though I just noticed that hd widgets allows you to make a car home widget short cut). It doesn't change anything. You can't just use speaker phone either. We've discovered the echo cancellation doesn't work because you have the headphone jack in use so it assumes you don't need echo cancellation. This would be funny if it wasn't so awful.

Doesn't matter what format it is.
It actually makes white noise more if there pause between audio, it cuts out and comes back with white noise.
I am on my second DNA due to a dead pixel in the first one and both of mine have had noise no matter what I'm playing. Pandora tune in mp3. I don't notice really at all with music but talk radio is bad. Every time there is a pause in the conversation it gets loud. Even if I turn off beats. I also hear the static. Doesn't happen with headphones but happens when I connect to headphone jack in my car. Static stops immediately when I turn on airplane mode. I think it has to do with the phone not properly shielded from its own signal. To explain why no static in my headphones is probably because it's a simpler circuit than inside my car. Inside car may have amplifiers and/or grounding that allows current (not sure exactly, just my guess)
Bottom line is, this appears to be an hardware issue, if more serious, design flaw. I sincerely hope I'm wrong.
The static you are hearing is due to the 4G LTE radios. Try putting your phone into airplane mode and listening to the music, it should be static free. Unfortunately this is just something we have to live with for now... The only ways around it are .. well with the music at high volume, its usually inaudible (the static), or if you don't use 4G LTE. I use Google music and when the music is cached to my phone, I don't hear static, but if I play a song I haven't played previously (uncached) then it makes noise..

I have the same. I believe that the amplifier is set to a fixed volume level on the analogue side. That trade-off would make the quality better when the full volume range is being used, but to do low volumes it has to reduce the volume digitally before it gets to the amp, which isn't a good quality way to do it. (a bit like if you have your mobile plugged into some speakers, if you turned the volume down really low on the phone you'd need to crank it to full on the speakers to compensate, and so you'd get some background hiss).
One fix would be to get some headphones with an analogue volume control in the cable, turn the volume to full on the phone then turn it down in the cable.

I'm also experiencing the low audio cut-off. Still seems to occur even with Beats disabled, just not nearly as bad. Same with the static; still persists without Beats, just not as badly. Same whether I'm in Airplane Mode or not.
Has anyone discovered a tweak/software that fixes this yet? Or is it a limitation of the hardware?
Same - usb audio maybe?
Same issue. I'm a sound engineer using dual-driver, custom molded, and very sensitive ear buds. I listen at low volume settings, set airplane mode. Completely unbearable noise, quiet parts will cut out completely, low frequency distortion. It's actually a little better with Beats enabled.
Supposedly this phone supports external USB audio - anyone tried it?

I've had this issue with every android device I've owned, I think its something dealing with the OS and file format the song is in. Never had static issues on my IOS devices.
