If you are on honeycomb you are free to flash recovery via Rom manager.
If you are on gb I am working on a compatible recovery right now. Once I get it done you will be able to use the features in Rom manager but not flash recovery via Rom manager
confirmed working with Honeycomb htcdev unlocked hboot 1.14.

any hope on porting a touch based recovery? I think all tabs should have a touch based recovery since the lack of HW buttons
Guessing this still does not allow to use the internal memory for anything?

Updated OP
I just rooted my view last night.. I flashed recovery once, enough to put the SU file on SD card to root. But since then, I've tried to do a backup (through ROM manager) and the white HTC screen pops up and doesn't go away. So then I tried to do it manually through hboot and when I choose recovery it does the same thing .. what do you think might be the problem? I'm very new to this so I'm hoping it is something simple that I missed... Please help
Everything seems to be working good except the small bug listed below. It is stock CWM and I haven't changed anything, just built it for our phones. Not sure what's up with the background as I haven't added anything?
Will flash CM9 without issues! I haven't had any flashing issues at all actually...
The .zip is CWM flashable, no fastboot needed. Enjoy!
Bugs-
Internal SD won't mount in usb storage mode.
(can still flash from internal)
Dropbox(Go easy)- http://db.tt/GvNBGK29
Mediafire- http://www.mediafire.com/?qzemoy3t86v761i
MD5- b819dcb34b48e97b3f9e2a7e6d665d0a
so im assuming this is the touch enabled version?
Flashed, its not the touch version. but everything looks to be in working order.

Flashed jokercomplete, booted then flashed back to Initiative with no issues. The background image is nice. The menu disappears during flashing and the progress bar is hard to see (very thin and low contrast) which may make some people nervous.
I'll add it to the compendium and update the root-unlock-relock zip in the next day or so. Thanks yepitsme19.

Yeah just go into ROM manager, and at the bottom, where there are previous clockworks, just flast 5.8.2.0. This one works, backs up, and best of all, won't brick your prime if you flash ROMs.

Here's a little tip about rom manager and flashing a recovery through it that many fail to realize until it's too late, lucky for me I got a heads up a while back when I was on the T989, once you flash a recovery via rom manager, you can only boot into that recovery using rom manager, therefore your phone has to boot to be able to use recovery, now, let's say you end up in a bootloop, how are YOU gonna get into recovery to fix your phone? Think about that, we don't have a CWM recovery.img at the moment for you to flash manually if you prefer CWM, but by all means, do as you please, we all have personal preferences and for someone that isn't s-off and isn't too comfortable with the ways of adb, etc as yet, I'd advise the simplest things for now.
Before 4ext was posted and I was on my g2 I used cwm(like everyone else). you were able to boot into recovery same as 4ext. Some had issues but I never did. Is something on this device preventing it from functioning like it did in g2?

Definitely ALWAYS make sure that you clear data.
This is why I clear data 3x, just to make sure it all gets out, clear cache, and dalvik of course.
You can clear as much as you want. It's never going to hurt anything.
You should be fine afterwards to then restore your backup.

Good, glad it worked.
I didn't think the Revolution recovery would have a superwipe option.
You should download 4ext or clockworkmod recovery to take place of Revolutionary recovery. They work much better. I personally use clockworkmod recovery, but hear awesome reviews about 4ext.
By all means you can keep using the Revolutionary recovery. Just always be sure to wipe data 3x, cache 1x, and then dalvik 1x when changing between ROMs... and that goes for any recovery you might change to.
Usually clearing the data only once doesn't get all of the old data out. Besides, you can sit and clear any of those options all day and it won't hurt a thing.

Glad u got it working. In the future just do a factory data reset from recovery. It should stop the boot loop. To get to it. Pull the battery out to shut the intended phone off. When powering on, hold down volume down. It will boot into boot loader. From there you can select recovery. Hope this helps for future reference.
