Will WIFI works for ATRIX after gingerbread upgrade - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Guys,
As many of us suffer from wifi disconnection upon unlocking the SIM carrier for AT&T Atrix mobile.
Last time i had to replace the WIFI driver from Atrix to LG 4G drivers and it worked, now my question that if i upgraded to Gingerbread version i assume it will replace these files which solved the wifi problems last time, and i will have the same problem.
Can any one confirm that upon upgrade to version 2.3.4 the Unlocked version of Atrix, the wifi will remain working?
and if not is there any solution yet??

You're asking for people who have unlocked their CARRIER? As in jailbroken? Or unlocked bootloader?
Sent from my rooted/unlocked ATRIX using Dorian's Redpill v3

Nope its carrier unlock and not jailbreak in iPhone.
You can call it sim free unlocking from at&t to any telcom carrier

I'm on Ken Penns alien rom with is 2.3.4 and my wifi works fine

The wifi issue for certain countries that was present in 2.2 was addressed by the 2.3.4 update, so wifi shouldn't refuse to work anymore in the affected countries.

I decided to be brave finally and upgrade the firmware....
i will keep you posted if Motorolla really improved their software.
I have little faith in Motorolla and a lot of faith n XDA members and forum

[Q] Atrix 3G ROMs / Unlock / Root

Hey Mates,
I'm an owner of an Atrix 3G (not a 4G, ATT or stuff like that), and I'm wanting to change its ROM, personalize it etc.
However, this specific forum seems to be reserved solely for Atrix 4G...
My question: even with an Atrix 3G, am I able to make all changes of ROM etc as if it were an Atrix 4G? Are the ROMs and procedures in this forum compatible for both 3G and 4G?
Regards!
The 4g is a ATT marketing term for HSPDA+. But however the sbf flash files from the att version can only be used on an att phone. The procedure for rooting applies the same to att and non att atrix phones

Thank you, mate. I was very used to HTC WinMo and even Android. However, things are a litlle bit different with Motorola. But I guess I'll handle it Cheers.

Photon Baseband Switcher Enabler.APK For All US GSM Networks

Just wondering if anyone has seen or tried to develop a baseband switcher application like the one found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1203297 so the Photon can work on all US/international CDMA/GSM networks?? Out of the box it has(CDMA 850/1900-GSM 850/900/1800/1900-WCDMA 850/1900/2100-Wimax 2500).. but no 1700 T-MO..I have a Photon but no use for it since im using T-Mobile..Perhaps unlocking and a baseband switcher would enable me to use this amazing phone on any US GSM network like my Moto Defy Ive been using this app and Itfunz for international travel and im amazed how well my phone works on almost every GSM band in the US and around the globe.....Anyone?? This Phone with Root,CM7 and a "working" baseband switcher would be untouchable!!
Im on sprint so no real need for the switcher but i would love to see this come to life. I can make my brother jealous and steal his sim card.
I would love that
I am in the Dominican Republic and have not been able to find any alternative baseband versions to flash, since 3G (850 Mhz Band) stopped working a few days ago.
I´ve reflashed to stock, tried different roms and kernels, but i guess if i can swith the baseband version it might work again.
This app would be awesome, anyone tried it on the photon yet?
Any News On This?
I tryied it - doens help me.... I created activity which is switch's baseband and turn it to USA gms baseband.... I lost connection :-((( and can't repair it :-((((
please help :-((( baseband switcher says "your baseband setting are incorrect. would you like to reset it to defaults?". I answer Yes and it reboots with old settings and don't work :-(
maybe somebody knows a way to reset baseband settings?

what sbf stands for? I just bought the phone and my reason to buy it was the sim card ability I would like to use it on my trips to Mexico and I would very much love to be able to nuy a sim card from a Mex. carrier and use that way.
I believe you can. I forget the post where somebody gave the name of the sim card they used...
You may need to contact Sprint to get international use activated, I believe at no charge.

any update on this one? Agree the photon would be unstoppable if able to use on us gsm networks...

[Q] Help Needed

Hi All,
I am a newbie here and I am not sure if my question makes any sense. Couple weeks back, I bought an Atrix 4g (US version), an unlocked version (the seller told me that this phone is unlocked using AT&T code) and I am using it with Vodafone (India) sim. It works perfectly and so far I didnt face any problems with this phone. But last week, I got an alert in my phone saying that software update (2.3.4.5.141) is available for AT&T users and enable wifi to download. However, I didnt download and install the update as I was not sure why is it saying the update is available only for AT&T users. Also wherever I read about this software udpate, the name 'AT&T users' comes along with that.
So my doubt here is, what will happen if I, who is not an AT&T user, download and install the software update in my phone ? will it cause any issues in the phone (like getting locked again or bricking the phone)
I have not done any modification like rooting or installing custom ROM and things like that and I am using the phone as I recieved it.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I would personally NOT update the phone since the update would probably relock the phone for the ATT carrier. The update is great I heard.
By the way, when you boot up the phone, does the phone say unlocked in the top left corner of the screen on the Motorola dual core screen?

I've even heard people saying that updating using AT&T, from any rom with an unlocked bootloader, can cause bricks. I wouldn't update under any circumstances.
I hear people are having problems with the 2.3.6 AT&T update anyways, like APN/mobile network issues.

The phone the op means is unlocked by carrier not bootloader.

I believe that the update does not block your phone. The chip lock, as far as I know, is independent of the device firmware update. In your case, I would upgrade.

Oh, my bad. I think I realized that later. Sorry.
If the guy/girl you got the phone from stated they used an "AT&T" code, it might have been unlocked the official way, through AT&T, meaning you wouldn't have any problems updating. Just note that if you update, you may have problems like other people are having. I'm not sure if AT&T's fixed it, or if the problems were from the official update even. It may have been a beta build. I don't know.
I'd say go for it. Just note that rooting might be a problem after you update, if you decide to root it later. I'm not sure if we have a method of rooting for it yet. (I can't look it up right now, sorry)

Where are the radios?

Where are the radio choices for this phone? are there any? i havent seen one!
My friend has had the photon for a while and he has always complained about dropping calls, or sms's not going through, I just got done rooting and unlocking it, flashed CM7 and he said it is worst. Anyone out there got some suggestions?
What version build is on the phone?
Google talk me for help or question. @ [email protected]
well, im not exactly sure what was origionaly on it but I know it was 2.3.4,
but now it has "[KANG][ROM] CM7.2 by Photon Dev team 4-23-2012" on it.
Hmm, is he using it with sprint or another carrier like cricket?
I would just flash him back to stock have sprint update his profile and prl.
And if everything is fine flash custom roms.

Be careful letting sprint update your phone. Once you update to 2.3.5 you will be stuck with a locked bootloader till someone figures out how to unlock it. The basebands (radio) currently used by most roms is the one from 198_7 which is 2.3.4. As far as I know there are only 3 basebands for the photon and none of them make that much of a difference in reception if any at all. Currently 198_7 is your golden ticket for any kind of xda support.

Been using KANG CM7.2 since the beginning on a non sprint network in India. Never had a problem. The rom is almost stable. 99%... And i neither had an issue with the network data nor call drops.
There's a network selection option in
Settings -> Wireless and networks -> Mobile networks -> Network Preference right ??
I have a photon on Verizon and I get 1-3 bars in my basement and once in a while I drop a call but when I leave the basement I get 3+ bars ALL the time. Are you sure you or your friend has strong signal at all ( if possible try another sprint phone).

The photon has one of the best, if not the best radio of all sprint phones. Unless he is in a bad area for sprint then I don't know what to tell ya.

Updating the PRL and Profile is totally different from updating (upgrade) to 2.3.5.
I see the point of the suggestion to update profile/prl, it can make a difference in call/reception quality.
For those who are concerned about going back to stock for profile/prl updates there is another way. When on rooted stock use an app such as TiBu and freeze the upgrader/updater apk's. Then create a nandroid backup. If you need to go back to 198_6 or 7 for whatever reason you are safe.
My MoPho's in the kitchen sink!!
Well looks like hes SOL, when he first got it I did update the prl and profile and it didnt do much. Figured a custom rom would help. But his photon is on sprint, and his girl has the same exact phone and she has all the same exact problems he has. Like droped calles, and also the phone became very sluggesh over time, one of the worst phones i've ever used, and i've used at least 15 or 20 different android phones on all 4 major carriers foor a substantial amount of time. Sorry to say it, but its just my opinion. So... I think its just a bad area concidering the evidence. But anyway, hes been away for a few days and I cant get to the phone so I can't check anything. Thanks for the reply's though.

[Q] photon 4g v.2.3.5, rooted, GSM KDDI radio possible?

I'm mostly a one banana programmer (i.e. 'Q: How hard is it? A:Give a monkey one banana'). Occasionally I rise to two bananas. Rarely do I get to three.
Much to my chagrin, I accepted the 2.3.5 Photon 4g OTA update (hey--it was running like $hit! and I was hopeful). (Four years ago I got my first blackberry 8330 to work with the Anworm hack, so command lines and javaloader don't intimidate me. Long I.T. systems experience has made me a deeply respectful believer in backups. Oh yeah...I got Google Calender to work on a rooted Nook Tablet, and simply too).
Since 2.3.5 OTA made the Photon 4g run even worse, I rooted it--and donated, installed Titanium Backup and by shutting down enough Moto/Sprint bloatware and installing Holo Launcher have gotten the phone to work ok.
Now I've taken the pledge--no more cell phone contracts. Several months ago I used the phone in Mexico with a Telcel GSM SIM and it worked great. By that I mean smoothly and fast.
I'd like to to use it here with AT&T or T-Mobile, but after reading 57 pages in the GSM-KDDI radio thread it's unclear if the GSM KDDI radio method will work with my setup: 2.3.5 Rooted but bootloader still locked.
Thanks in advance!
yes, KDDI will flash on 2.3.5, and there is a thread about it only 4 below your topic.
