I bought the samsung s2 primarily because of the amazing reviews it got for battery life.
I got mine 2 days ago and right from the start there were problems. I charged the unit three hours and according to the battery meter it had still not charged. then I tried to turn on the phone nevertheless, and it said it had 100% battery life. I then used it for 2 mins and it dropped down to 0% again and powered down. Then on charge back up to 100% in a couple of moments and back down to 0 % mins later. I took the battery out then put it back in - and then it was working fine again.
Now on day two, I've noticed an immense drain when its in use. Check out the screenshots. I think I'd be lucky to get two hours solid use out of it.
Should I return it, or does this look standard?
The battery needs some time before it reaches it full potential. In the mean time do some searching cause there already are enough battery life threads.
I already searched and read many of the other battery threads but didnt come across anyone who'd experienced the problem I described.

Correct 0-100% about four hours longer on a brand new phone ,
then I tried to turn on the phone nevertheless, and it said it had 100% battery life. I then used it for 2 mins and it dropped down to 0% again and powered down. Then on charge back up to 100% in a couple of moments and back down to 0 % mins later. I took the battery out then put it back in - and then it was working fine again.
bad battery connections clean .
Now on day two - I charged it at 9pm last night and by 9.30 am unplugged it was down to 84%. This with no apps open, no widgets running - nothing. wifi was active though.
Overnight is variable and Wifi uses battery .
then in using it for just 40 mins - doing nothing more than internet surfing through wifi; it drops from 84 - 68%.
Does this pace of battery power loss sound consistant with other users experiences, or should I return the unit and ask for a new one?
I think you have two choices one charge the battery read all the battery posts .
Or return to seller .
Personally i would turn WiFi GPS etc off at night charge phone to 100% see what it drops to by morning .Big drop and it would be returned as your original 100% to 0 drop very quickly suggests a possible fault .

Thanks for your feedback.
I've read through quite a few posts there.
One thing; do we know how long galaxy s2 should be able to be on for if the screen was on the whole time? Is four hours low, or does that sound right??
50% or less on brightness playing SD video should last more then 7 hours , browsing web however can be 5ish+ .
Screen at 100% and browsing web drains battery fast , 4 sounds about right.
It all depends what and how you doing it ?
Well I have it on auto brightness, usually which seems to be around 50%....
and I'm web browsing or just playing around with settings and looking at menus. I'm down to 45% battery and have probably had the screen lit up for maybe 90 mins max??
rest of the time phone has been on idle with wifi on but no network activity...
does this sound below what it shoudl be??
OK I've now attached my screenshot.
Does this battery usage seem normal??
i.e, such extreme drops when the phone is in active use???
All I've been doing is texting, some wifi surfing, and looking at menus.
Search the forum for "Android OS bug". There's no solution yet though. Turning wifi off when you're not using it helps.

Hi there.
I have installed Lite’ning Rom v1.5. Everything is working ok, but yesterday before sleeping I had battery 80 %, today after 6 h it drops to 1 %. I have data transfer turned off, also Gps, WiFi, ... Also before 2 weeks it drops from 100 % to 70 % after some hours with no using.
I have to add, that my battery held up for 4 days once with no particular using.
Any ideas plz?
Thx for answer.

Hi!
How long does your Mozart work.
My settings: WiFi & BT are off / Exchange sync is permanent.
Around 30 mins calling time a day.
Battery is empty during the afternoon. It simply does not "survive the day" and has to be recharded. Is my device not ok, or do you have the same experience?

Are you on telstra network perhaps?
I read something on the internet about a bug in the Exchange service, it reestablishes the connection every minute, so thats why you battery is empty so fast. (probably)
HTC is working on the problem. but if you are on a Telstra network there is a workaround http://blog.walshie.me/2010/11/15/htc-mozart-telstrabattery-issues-solved/
Hope this helps
I was not too pleased about the battery myself, but it was never as bad as what you're reporting!
I've always had Wifi turned on and use Exchange email... and have been continuously using the media player or an app or game now and then... and it lasts me a full day... There was once or twice when i had been continuously at it that it had 20% left by evening...
I posted about it on the forums too and someone said it'll automatically adjust itself... i was a bit skeptical, but today it still has 60% battery left and it is 12:15 AM now...! (though i did have Wifi turned off for the most part today)
Hello everyone
I have the htc mozart one month offered by the girlfriend. I used the mobile phone several times and even with wifi and bluetooth on and always lasted one day (24h) without problems. yesterday charged at 24h and at 15h had no battery. had not even turned on wifi or bluetooth. since then the battery does not last anything I do not know what happened but its not and nomal. Somebody now something about? This its really a joke but I know that the battery lasts well over

were you in an area with poor cell reception? if yes, that would affect the battery because the phone is constantly working to maintain a signal. i'm using an 1800 mAh battery from Mugen and it's easily lasting 32+ hours with 1 Push Exchange account, BT/Wifi off, 2 POP accounts (1 hour retrieval times) and about 40-80 minutes of calls when i'm in an area with a strong signal. i spent two weeks at a client site where i could barely get 1 Bar (and most often had "No Service) and the same battery would be depleted in about 18 hours. when working in an area with great cell reception, battery life is great for my use. on 2 occasions i forgot to charge the phone overnight and had about 15% battery left when i woke the next morning. in case you're wondering, i'm using the HTC TestTool - Battery Tool (v1.20.0.0) to determine battery percentage. you can find in in the WP7 forums.
I'm using the phone as I have always used but something happened that makes the battery last while. without stirring overnight stays with half in morning

That the point you living in area where the cell phone reception is really bad!! It's same for me when I go to my Island in carraibe !!But where I living Paris and London I can keep the battry 100% at 7h in the morning till late in evening around 2h at 20%; Using all day Wifi, TV, Game... So the issue about battery is not the phone but carrier issue.
Because when I take a "Metro" or "Tube" where the reception are really bad my battery drainning fast....
For me it last for a day, since i don use 3g n wifi, i use followin settings.
3g turned off
wifi turned off
Always try to close the running apps using the back key.
everynite i switch my phone to low brightness, so that i don need much time in charging my phone in the morning b4 i leave to work.
with every settings turned on the battery last for 15-17 hours.
hope they fix the battery issue in the comming update.
With heavy usage 9-10 hours battery life for me.3g,4 e-mail account.One is push,the others checking every 15 minutes(almost getting 150 e-mails every day).1 hour talk time,Web browsing over 3G,listening music 30-45 mins,playing games 15 mins.(Brighness medium,location service all on)
using dark back grounds will help save power, but everyone nows that dont they.
Except it won't help with Mozart. It only works for AMOLED displays, Mozart has an LCD.
it has at least awesome standby time...
the red light once began to flash when i went to sleep.
when i got up around 9-10h later the phone was still on.
only bluetooth was off...
even more standby power, im back to report:
3+ DAY STANDBY!
i charged my phone friday 02-11-2011
untill today (tuesday) it still lasted,
same-time as last-charge 02-15-2011
thats incredible 4 days...
WLAN was OFF the most time
3G on
only did around 4-7 2min calls
didnt play much with it,
only quickly checking for news in market from time to time
had 2 reboots because of that
and did around 5 pictures.
i think its pretty awesome times...
yeah with heavy usage its only 1 day
but still its a phone and its standby is great
There's no surprise that the phone lasts long when you don't do anything with it.
As far as I can see, the battery annihilating combination is browsing the web via 3G. Guess IE was optimized for speed to impress with responsiveness. This probably won't change much until IE9 comes (which may or may not help). The power-hungry screens are a universal problem on all current HTC devices, with WP7 and Android equally, so this won't change.
The real killer is WI-FI, i upgraded to the MUGUN 1800MiH Battery, and im not looking back, it lasts way more than 50% longer than the standard battery did.
for £28 with free delivery, you'd be silly not to buy it.
also, as an aside, the Battery arrived within 4 days from HONGKONG, which is great because it advertised that the battery would have a 10 - 15 day shipping time.
Okay... what if
had 50% power left the night before...
after 6 hours sleep
phone is out of battery @@
Now that aint right, im guessing something is running under locked screen and iono what!!! but i always jump out of any program when im about to sleep too, so it cant be because of that
In the past, i could have standby time for a long period especially after one night. But the past two days when i woke up, it always ran out of battery!!
the first two days when i got my mozart it died on me due to low battery. but when i upgraded it to nodo(i think), the battery is longer now. but i will check some more.
my battery usually lasts 24 hours. But when I open htc weather, starts to pick up GPS signal if I leave soon have a very abnormal wear of the battery.
I tried with other Porgram gps and the same happens, the battery does not last 10h
I know this has probably been asked hundreds of times and I have searched up and down the forums but have found no fix for my battery problem.
I always have my battery at the dimmest level. Mostly only text, the occasional 5 min phone call and web browse here and there. Yet when i look into the battery use the display is always at atleast 96% ive never seen it less than that. But i kno that it has to be something other than just the display though.
I stoped using beautiful widgets, and froze media hub (i read that it eats battery in the bg) recently ive been monotoring my system through system panel.
As of now system panel tells me that System Processes is at 5.7% and system at 2.6% The next highest thing is Swype at 0.4% and android.process.acore at 0.2% the rest of the things are at 0.0%
I was thinking that it might be the battery or just the phone itself...
Edit: im sorry idk why the app didnt post all my post <=(

Having your screen use that much (as a percent) isn't necessarily a bad thing. It means that everything else is using minimal power. You also shouldn't be checking your stats for useful info within moments of turning it on. Give it a whole day of use and check again. Your screen will have used less % after a day but it is totally normal for it to be the largest user of power.
So then what could be causing the battery drain?

How much drain?
You should expect to get 4-5 hours of use from your Vibrant. Total time could range from four hours to several days, which is what you hear people saying in most battery threads. What they often don't state is how much time the phone is actually in use and whether you get 5 hours or 24 hours before you hit 0% battery you probably are using the phone (screen on for anything, or screen off while listening to music or talking.) for 4-5 hours.
So is your phone getting less use then that? If so then you may have some other issue.

The links are very informative
Of actual use, not just standy by I get just about 4 hours. Usually under 4.
And that link looks pretty interesting

Fast Battery Drain
Bad News Everyone!
I have spent the last 3 days searching here and other forums trying to find out why my battery has been horrible. My battery goes to around 30% after only 3 or 4 hours of very slight use (2 or 3 texts and checking email once).
I have done two complete battery drain to full charge with the phone off the past two days to try and get a better reading.
The history of the drain, at the end of November I rooted and installed RyanZA OCLF, rooted, and lag fixed, no issues. Installed the basics of rooted (busybox, superuser) and SetCPU.
SetCPU presented problems with not coming out of sleep and freezing after reboots. The battery would give about 6 hours of moderate use. I played around with settings, but ultimately removed it and when I did my battery was lasting 3 hours longer with moderate use, facebook, twitter, browser, 20-30 mins of gaming. From 12:00 pm (leaving work) to 9:00 at night (leaving school) with 35-40% left before I got home.
About 4 days ago, my battery was draining very quickly. Wake up, unplug phone at fully charged, get ready for work, grab phone to leave for work and I am down to 90% after only 20 minutes of standby. When it use to have it around 96% by the time I got to work, about an hour with light use. Seeing this problem I went back and looked at updates and apps that I had. The only thing I could think was Launcher Pro, but no one else has reported battery drain issues and it wasnt showing in Battery Info.
In my attempts, I have done the following.
Went from 7 to 3 screens (one widget per screen)
Removed apps and bloatware with Titanium Backup
Doubled checked my account syncs, Facebook once a day, no twitter sync,
Screen brightness at ZERO
2 Battery Resets (fully drained to recharge phone off)
Installed Watchdog to find any heavy mem/cpu users, (none found)
And a crap-load of googling, forum searching (here and cyanogen forums), and I am still getting horrible battery life.
Today for example: Phone completey charged 10:30 am with only 3 texts sent and I am currently at 28% at 3:15. 5 hours of stand-by should not have drained that much battery. No GPS on.
If you have any ideas of what it could be, at this point I have alread bought a new battery, I would love to hear back.
edit: I am running stock rom 2.1-update1
I used to have poor battery life as well on stock 2.1 rom until i flashed the leaked jk6 update. Im now averaging about 25 hrs per charge with my phone pretty much always in use whether its calls, texting, music, gaming, web, movies ect...
Not to mention i also get 3g in places i havent before and faster DLs, less lag... This rom is awesome, i suggest giving it a try..
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
dubbz106, thanks for the advice. I have not had a huge desire to flash a new rom because my phone had performed pretty good. But with my G1 I was keeping it alive through cyanogenmods.
I have been moving closer to flashing and this new battery issue my push me to do it.
Can you link the thread for the rom?
I've not been able to drain this thing since I got it a week and a half ago. I have to say that I like to charge things over night. I've not been able to get the Photon below 40% before I go to bed each night.
I hear that you need to drain it full at least once but my habit of charging things overnight is getting in the way. Should I just let it go overnight one night?
I was under the impression that completely draining Lithium Ion batteries causes more harm than good.
"The smaller the depth of discharge, the longer the battery will last. If at all possible, avoid frequent full discharges and charge more often between uses. If full discharges cannot be avoided, try utilizing a larger battery. Partial discharge on Li-ion is fine; there is no memory and the battery does not need periodic full discharge cycles other than to calibrate the fuel gauge on a smart battery."
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries
Also, i'm sitting at 46% after 15 hours of normal (for me) use. not to shabby. I should mention i'm running Juice Defender and build 4.5.1A-1_SUN-198_5 from the dev. forums and i'm connected to WiFi 90% of the time.
going to try tomorrow without Juice Defender and see how it does. After that i'm going to disable SPB Shell and see if that makes a difference.
Thank you sir. I don't want to root my phone so don't run Juice Defender but I do use the Data Saver in stock a lot. I usually just listen to a lot of music and look for new stuff on FB, check XDA forums blah blah blah, yada yada yada...
I'll not feel paranoid about charging my phone now lol.
Now with my tablet (Acer Iconia A500) I did root and load a bunch of different stuff. This is my first cell phone though and I didn't want to mess with something that I have to pay a monthly charge for. I know I could but it's my first cell phone lol.
How much are you guys using it? For me, I use about 30min talking, 1 hr heavy wifi use, 1 hr light wifi use (reading), 30 minutes playing with settings, and the rest of the day idle...that gets me to about 30%.
I actually thought that is kind of weak. Maybe my battery isn't as healthy as yours? I've only had it for 5 days. I charge it every night.
I use it for about 7 to 8 hours of music, FB updates/posting, checking XDA, about 10 minutes of calls and so far some Netflix watching just to show off the phone to my peeps. Oh and some picture taking.
I am the same way I hate to discharge it completely and its been very hard. I've went a day and a half without charging before it went under 10%. I will say that I am on Wifi 90% of the time as I have wifi at work and at home other than that its on performance mode so no true bells and whistles. I'm thoroughly impressed coming from the Evo.

Average day for me is about 30 to 45 minutes of phone calls, 80 to 100 texts, few conversations on google talk, 30 or so emails on three accounts and i have trillian running connected to two accounts.
Connected to WiFi most of the time, bluetooth is turned on (not connected most the time) and brightness set to Auto.
I really dont see how this phone is a monster when it comes to battery life, I've actually been getting the exact opposite. I just fully charged my phone and after running for 2hrs and 7mins its down 78%.... This phone has yet to last me for the whole day. What am i doing wrong? I dont have tons of widgets and the only app that im running that might pose a problem is Go Launcher

For the past couple of weeks I've been swapping batteries with an external charger one to two times during the course of a day (plus the overnight charge)... Looks like it's time to do some housekeeping...
Edit: used to have battery life like everyone else in this thread though! While at the climbing gym last night I noticed that the thing felt like it was about to catch fire against my thigh - it had burned through about 60 percent of a freshly charged battery in about two hours. I have a nagging suspicion that I neglected to uninstall something (or a few things), and now something non-existent is constantly being polled for as a service after I launch some app for the first time...
when i got my phone it did great on a full day charge, but now with it just sitting at the office its at 70% by 11am i take it off the charger 7-8am .. it started to "weaken" after i downloaded a ton of apps i leave wifi on and 4g off but it also depends on your signal strenght at home it will kill the phone halfway thru the day because i have one bar
The first week I had my 920 I was lucky if the battery was at or above 40% by 12 noon. The 920 is my 2nd phone line and I am using it mostly to learn WP8, to surf the web some and listen to a lot of podcasts, usually 6+ hours of them a day. The past 4 days the battery in the 920 is showing insane runtimes. It is currently 11:30pm and it has been off the charger since 8:00am, over 15 hours with overs 8 hours of audio podcast listening. The battery is currently reading 61%. I originally got the impression that LTE was killing the battery, but that is no longer the case.
I have a Share Plan with AT&T with 2 phones, a Galaxy Nexus (GSM model from Play Store) and a Lumia 920. I use my Nexus as my main phone line, to access GMail and Google Reader (a lot of Google Reader feeds). The Nexus has been off the charger the same period of time and is showing 41%.
For me wifi destroys my battery for some reason I get 15 hours with wi-fi on or 28 with it off
Interesting, mine will usually run for 24-30 hours before hitting 15%, including regular usage. 4G gives it a whack but generally I find similar to other phones, if low coverage it chews the battery
Reading all the doom and gloom of 4G LTE on various mobile phones, after my 1st weeks experience, I was expecting similar results going forward. But, after 2 weeks of use, the battery falls in line with the results you mention. And, with that I am not complaining.
same situation here.
It looks like the phone needs some days to warm up and get long lasting.
Also I see that wp8 is heavly optimized for background task in order to not consume a lot of battery eg: my phone lasts more than 2 days with light usage.
I listen to podcast for many hours and it doesnt affect the battery that much, in fact I'm surprised by it because I know audio playing takes a load on the cpu.
Mine.. overnight without charge or using the phone it drained from 100% down to 35%. BS
Two words: Background tasks.
Make sure you don't have unnecessary background tasks running. I have less than 5 and my battery runs more than 2 days easily.
How do you kill or monitor background tasks?
I had really good battery time of 19 hours the first day of installing the new firmware, then I enabled bluetooth again and it drains like crazy. its hit or miss but people seem to think that whatsapp drains battery. I personally would like to disable LTE (its really slow in my area) and just keep bluetooth that seems to give me 12+ hrs of battery.

You can block background tasks for 3rd party apps in Settings->Applications tab->Background tasks. There is no way to monitor these tasks because WP OS doesn't offer any such capability.
Unfortunately there is no easy way to block 1st party apps and if they are misbehaving (like sync something over and over), there is nothing you can do about it.
Turn on Battery Saver can also effectively kill all background tasks. But that's draconian. I still would like my smartphone do something in the background for me.
Don't forget, the biggest battery drain factor could be your cell phone signal. If you keep the phone in a fringe area, the cell radio will drain your battery very quickly while try to maintain communications with cell towers. This is outside the OS and you can't do anything about it.
I had a weird battery drain the day after the last upgrade. No apps running in the background BAR the movie that i had paused.. I lost 80% without using the phone in a 6 hour period (post charging). After a reboot it seems ok. Perhaps i should pause another movie to see if it happens again....
I must say that I have mine 2 days and the battery drains too fast... I dont know what to do .. Maybe because its new ? Some one can help me maybe ?

My battery is pretty inconsistent. MOST of the time it's awesome, and will last like 20-25 hours without needing to charge, but that just makes it especially jarring when every now and then I go to check my phone at 4 in the afternoon and it's at critical, and I have no idea what causes it.
Plus when it does die I have to put it on the charger for like 2 hours before it will let me turn it on.
I found interesting point in the battery life today, if the screen is off, the battery drain is in the range of 3-4% which is good, however, if the screen goes on the battery drops like 15% in just 25 minutes. After thinking I tried to set the screen sensitivity to normal and it solved my problem. I kept the screen on for more than 45 minutes and the battery went down almost 6% only which is good. I still have to test more to give a concrete evidence.

I usually run a battery discharge app Saturday night. Then a full recharge with the phone off. That usually gives me dependable battery life of about 12 hours a day for the entire week. If I forget and not run the discharger I notice it midways into the week when I only get about 8 hours out of it.
AT&T lumia920:
after updating my phone to the 1314 update, my battery life got worse.
I went from 14 hours per day to only 8 hours.
thanks nokia -_-
note: I was not experiencing any connectivity issues on my phone.
let's see how many people here actually have NFC on and Auto-Brightness on... lol
I used the sleep app last night after charging to 100%, and then I fell asleep with it on.
I woke up to find the sounds still going, and when I checked my phone worried that I killed the charge, I found it still had 92% left. That's impressive.
Hello! 1st sorry if this has been awnsered before.
Very briefly, my phone only lasts about 150 hours on standby ( 1% drain in about an hour or little more )
Ive searched everywhere and couldnt find an anwser. Im familiar with the case of the xml profile or what its called xD and its not the case
Specially considering that otherwise the phone works perfectly ( I get about 4 to 6 screen hours on 3G using facebook, browsing, various games, etc ) I have also watched a 1h 26 minutes film on max brightness and only drained 20 %
But the standby battery is not what it used to be. When I 1st got the phone, I unplugged it at 7am and it stayed at 100% till like 2pm, delivering the claimed 700 hours of standby time
Now, I unplug it at 7am and by 11am its at 97 with 0 use at all ( I kill all apps and wifi and only check the time every other hour lol )
I didnt flash it or install a custom ROM, using ADW launcher now,but this happened before I tried a new launcher. I have used battery stats app thingie, it said facebook drained the battery, uninstalled it, same thing. Only thing I can think of is my apps parafernalha ( Nearly 9 GB occupied of the 11 available lol )
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Wow, and I thought my battery life was OK until I saw this
I get about 96 hours with nothing running on background, I will try to improve it now.

Wow, my battery life just increased by many months by doing that :silly:
No, seriously now. I care about standby consumption because it takes away what could be some hours of useful usage when you're around, it only makes sense trying to improve it.
Turn off auto-sync, disable location services, low brightness, power saving mode, airplane mode when not using, delete apps you don't use, don't use messaging apps, etc.. And keep your screen off
I downloaded BBS and Ill leave it idle over night, see what it does
