[Q] SD Partitioning - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

how can i put a partition on my SD card does anyone know or can anyone help me out as to how to do it,iv looked for sd partition prog but got no joy finding anything ,so,CHEERS IN ADVANCE TO ALL Replies that r helpful

Is it rooted?
If it is and you have xRecovery, then the easiest is to format from within xRecovery. Click "back" button when you see SONYERICSSON on startup and then choose format.

Use mini tools partitioning wizard...

NOT rooted but am debating on doing it but nmot sure if it is worth it...............what u guys think bout rooting n puttin a diff rom on it got mini pro

Take in mind, using recovery-tools build-in partition tools and you will loose some of (if not all) files on the SD-card.
You can use EASEUS Partition Master (freeware). Se detailed guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194499

SD partation
Well I don't know why you need SD partition as you not rooted your device to have advance option of custom ROM?
SD partition use for mainly Apps2sd future but you cant if your device is not rooted, if you dont root your device you can still enjoy apps2sd by http://thetechnoclub.com/google-oce...ps-to-sd-card-in-android-2-1-eclair-appstosd/
otherwise here is link for SD partition is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=267475

Putting apps on SDCard - Noob to this and need help

Hi,
Ok I am new to android but I have rooted my Hero and put the Modaco ROM on and update the radio so I am getting there. Now I have read that you can install apps to your SDCard and also transfer the ones already installed across to the SDCard.
I am just a little confused as to how to do it. From what I have read this is what I think I should do but just want someone to confirm im right.
First partition the SDCard with a EXT3 partition of no greater than 1.5GB.
Then if I am reading this right that is all there is to it the ROM will recognise the EXT3 partition and do the rest??
So no one can tell me if im right? I am also wondering if when I am partitioning the sd card if I have to delete everything on it as I have all my music on it and my Copilot maps and it would be a PITA to do.
And for the partition is it Paragon Partition Manager I should used?
Thanks.

App2Sd LG Optimus GT 540

Can someone provide me a tutorial about how to install app2sd on rooted Lg Optimus GT540.
Thanks a lot & Regards

how to install app2SD on LG GT540 (android 1.6)
If you update to 2.1 then it's meant to work. There's a guide on Modaco on how to do it.
I am only passing on information that I have searched (mainly through Modaco) for and tried and tested. This is by no means my creation or discovery! And also...dont sue me if you mess your phone up!
First of all, you must be rooted!
Best thing to do before installing apps2sd is to do a factory data reset.
There has been discussions on whether apps2sd overwrites the phones factory defaults. I think the problem lays in an old script of apps2sd, perhaps there is a new on out... I couldnt tell ya! Anyhow, this is not really a problem if you want apps2sd permanently on your phone though. So remember, start from scratch, reset your data.
1. Partition your sdcard and make 3 partition on it.
Example: sdcard is 1 GB
1st partition in FAT32 600mb
2nd partition in ext2 300mb
3th partition as swap 100mb
Im not sure if the swap partition is needed but I made it anyway.
2. Copy the apps2sd folder to the root of the sdcard.
Example: /sdcard/app2sd/
3. Connect your phone from ADB and type this command :
adb shell
su (approve with superuser aplication in your phone)
sh /sdcard/app2sd/app2sd.sh
After a while your phone will reboot.
4. Now check how much internal memory you have (I had 135mb after my clean install of apps2sd. I have never had that much after a factory reset, a hard reset or a flash).
And there you have it folks!
tutorial : how to insert app2sd in optimus
first, im sorry for my english
for app2sd on optimus, you must have root level.
before install app2sd, please check you internal memory (setting-sd card & phone storage)
and remember your free space. biggrin.gif
step:
1.Partition your sdcard (i use paragon manager)
make 3 partition on your sd card.
example : your sdcard is 4 GB
1st partition in FAT32 3 GB
2nd partition in ext2 700mb
3th partition swap 300 mb
2.download this file mediafire[dot]com/?2os3np35b0fmc60
3.extract the download file
Added automatic installation app2sd. Just run APP2SD.bat
Unnecessary SDK TOOLS
what happen in your memory?
good luck

swap like a virtual memory may be.
i think phone need a virtual memory for app2sd.
Swap is like a linux swap (as in swap space for the RAM), but from what I read, it's not actually needed
Ah I see! Well thanks for that info. Its a bit too late now lol but atleast I know for next time. Thanks

Hey, I have an unlocked LG Optimus, if I set it to factory default will that lock it again? Or can I do this without setting my phone to factory default?
Old post but for reference's sake, am posting this here.
I used MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition for making the partition.
I had a 16GB microSDHC but I made only a 512mB ext2 and left the rest as FAT32.
GT540 was designed to handle only 140mB of usable internal memory. So, making a huge ext2 partition will considerably slow down your phone. I would recommend to keep it below 512mB. Most often, you won't install more than 200-300mB worth of apps. Most games have their extra data downloaded to the SD and only apk and dex files reside in the phone.
And, I found that Link2SD was better than apps2sd. I never used apps2sd because by the time I wanted apps2sd, Link2SD was out. Check it out.

@nibras_reeza
i am having 8 GB memory card. can you please tell me the steps how to do partion..
why dont you just put 2.2 or 2.3 on your phone. the roms are available in the developer forum.
I found installing cm7 made it work. Although i lost the functionality of my camera app2sd worked other than that it is a great rom.
I agree, link2sd is far more better than apps2sd.
Also u need to upgrade ur firmware from 1.6 and 2.1 to higher roms, 2.3 is good.
So to fully use ur android, root your device, install a rom manager, then clockworkmod and superuser, there you can enjoy.

TROUBLESHOOTING (For sdcard)

Here's a simple guide/solution if anyone who have problems with their microsdcard
1.Blank Sdcard notification
If u have partition on ur sdcard and u switch from 2.1 to 2.2, u need to reformat the card. Because 2.2 does not need the 2nd partition.
When u had partition your sdcard on 2.1 rom and u get blank notification, please do a reboot. it will eliminate the meassge.
ps:i do recommend using ext2 as 2nd partition and use link2sd as u can manually select the apps, dalvik-cache files and the libs files
2.Unrecognised, Failed to read sdcard, damage sdcard and etc
Required a laptop/computer assistance
Please try this method before you try anything else. usually this will solve all the problem you facing
1.Go to my computer and right click on your sdcard icon
2.Select properties and then click on the Tools tab
3.Click on error checking/check now
4.Remember to tick on the automatic fix and then click start
this will required 10 to 20 minute, depending on the size of your sdcard.
3.Last resort
Format your sdcard using your x10 or pc.
if both method cant be using, re-partition your sdcard using MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition 6.0. set it as primary and using FAT32
Sdcard reading and writing speed slow?
For non-rooted and rooted user
Mount your sdcard from your pc and use this Defraggler and defrag your sdcard. credit to 28spawn
For rooted user only

PS:This troubleshooting method does not 100% will work but since it works for me most of the time, so i wanted to share out. Hope I wont offend anyone.
Mod, if this thread is useless, please delete it and sorry for the trouble.
Thanks for the thread. Tried it on my sd card because it shows blank sd card after I partitioned it into fat32 and ext3 for miui cobrato rom but it didn't work. Nice share anyway.
opps.. thanks for replying n reminding me. i forget to put tis. after u partition your card, did u reboot? btw, there no nd to do partition for 2.2 onwards

Nope, I only put in the partitioned sd card into the phone and started it. I partitioned using parted magic. But for MIUI roms, it's needed to partition into ext3 for the ap2sd+ to work.
same problem here. i just can't seem to get the sd card to work after flashing custom 2.2 or 2.3 roms. but the sd card work just fine on any custom 2.1 roms.
i'm currently on ThGo v1.5.5e. this rom works great.
I'm using EWjet 2.3.4x. I plugged the sdcard into my pc, used mini partition tool to reduce the size of fat32 partition and making 800mb of unallocated space at the end of disk. Then I created a new partition (primary ext3) of 800mb, applied and removed the sdcard from pc.
When I plug it on x10 it says that my sdcard is empty.
I already tried to reboot twice and it keeping saying that is empty.
Link2SD says that I don't have a second partition, but I created a 800mb ext3 partition.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

sorry for late reply. i tot this thread is dead. thinking wanna ask mod to delete it
well, i tried formating it to fat32 through windows and it worked. but what boggles me is that only some 2.3 roms can detect my sd card. thgo and ewjet works just fine. any miui roms and others doesn't seem to find the sd card. it just says sd card not present or unmounted sd card.
well, i had never tried using any miui rom b4 but from what i read, its best after flashing the miui rom, it it recommended to format the sdcard

X10 SD partition

i bought a 32GB class 10 for the x10 and i want to partition it and plan on using link2sd to move all my apps over. im rooted with stock 2.1 update 1 global rom. busybox installed and rom manager installed. i installed rom manager because of the partition sd function and later realized it required clockworkmod recovery. i found out that i cant install that because the bootloader hasnt been cracked for x10. i installed xrecovery thinking the xrecovery might work with rom manager. of course...no avail. is there any way to make the two work together so i can use rom manager to parititon my sd? im going this route because i have some time to do the partition but i dont have my usb cable with me to do it manually and wont have it for some time. if not, is there any other app that will partition the sd so i can use link2sd? help! my x10 is running unbearably slow and im hoping that moving all my apps over to sd will help.
can i use xrecovery to partition my sd card?
or can i use terminal emulator to set this partition up?
nobody?? you mean theres no way to create a second primary partition with xrecovery or terminal emulator or any other app? it just so happens that clockworkmod recovery doesnt work on my x10 and i dont have my usb cable ?! no other options?
"1. fat32
2. ext2/3
3. linux-swap

[Q]How to apply CyanogenMod 7.1(2)

So, first of all, a big hello to the community! Spent the last 2 hours digging around the forum, as I'm a new user and I'm amazed with this big things Galaxy has to add! I came from a Symbyan platform, and the only thing I done was Flash my Nokia 5800 with a C6 FW by PHNT.
Few days ago, I moved to this awsome Android world, where I see alot fo stuff new to my eyes, and that I wish some replys from you guys.
You all gonna say this questions are answered elsewhere, but I digged the forum, and I find the most various kind of answers for the same questions, which I'm now pretty much confused.
The thing is, I want to apply this CM7.1(or , dunno which is better), from what I see, it improves greatly our Galaxy Ace, but on the other hand, I saw a post that says taht this is simple as Root(Which I've done already), and apply a CWM or something, and apply the CM7.1 same way as Rooting.
The fulcral questions is which is the safest(and noobier-frindly) way to apply that CM 7.1?
Also if someone can aid me, what CWM does exactly? Its a backup app like TitaniumBackup?
I think you did not read This my friend.
And CWM is a custom recovery which has a lot more features than stock recovery.
CWM5 can be found Here
The tutorial is at the first link I gave you. But if you didn't understand,
I'll tell you step-by-step
1. Download the rom and CWM and put it in your phone.
2. Enter recovery and choose install zip from SD then choose CWM.
3. Reboot and enter recovery again.
4. Your now in CWM Recovery, before flashing any rom, doa wipe data.
5. Choose install zip fom SD card and choose CM7.1/2
reboot then voila
Hited Thanks for you!
Really helpfull thread! How did I missed it lol!
So the thing taht really caught my attention was the option to don't waste internal memory, which is exactly the only reason I wanted to Cyan Mod.
If it's not a hassle to you, can you pinpoint me the EXACT file to run from CWM? I really don't wanna mess up my phone(though I will only apply it after I buy my 16GB SDcard soon).
Here's where I stand:
1-> I rooted my device with some root I found over youtube, worked fine, then google play said me to update the superuser app, so I did. I guess it's updated, no problems there.
2-> Now I need CWM(I got a file named "recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxyace-fix.zip", should I use that one or try to find the v4 one?
3-> Then I need to run on Home Button+Power to install that mod, but here comes 4 questions:
"You need to extend the internal app storage to the sd card. The FIRST thing you need to do is go back to Clockworkmod recovery mode and partition your sdcard so that it has a ext4 extension. Then update from ketut.kumajaya's post with cf-rootdtapps2sd???.zip(forgot the full name). That defaults all downloaded apps to run from the sd card."
3.1-> Does CWM have the partition option already? And does it formats the SDcard?
3.2-> Can u direct me the EXACT file so I don't mess this up?
3.3-> This doesn't wipes any data from the phone right?
3.3.3-> And what about the apps alraedy installed and using the internal memory even though they are "in SD card, as phone shows", i need to reinstall them right?
Ty again for any hassle done! And I will thank you agani, just for wasting the time here with me
2. Ok flash that. Some roms are compatible with that but not on v4
3. No. Don't use CFRoot. It's for stock roms only.
3.1 Yes, you can partitition SD card on CWM.
And yes, it wipes everything in your SD
and after you have partitioned it, download Link2sd from the market, choose ext4 then link every app (except system apps of course)
I guess that answers all, just didn't get what u meant by that, do i use taht version 5 or the v4 of CWM? And what is a stock rom? I never changed nothing on my phone except the Rooting.

After you partition your sd card thorough cwm recovery, do a factory reset and then install cm7.2. Then you can use either s2e or link2sd or a2sd to free up your internal memory.
If you are asking for exact cm7.2 file, there are many of them. Try cm7.2 by vo1 first. Thread will be in development section created by Lovetz.
It seems your not really getting what I mean
First I wanted the CM7 mod, BUT after reading that thread you showed me, I saw its possible to free up internal memory WITHOUT the need of installing CM7, and installing that other file right?
I just wanted to know which is the right file so I don't mess up. I just want to have the option to save all to SDcard, and not to use Internal memory. That was the reason I wanted CM7. Understand now?
use minitool partition wizard to repartition your sdcard. create two partition, both as primary, first partition as fat32 and second partition as ext2/ext3/ext4
http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
then flash this from clockworkmod recovery. before flashing do mount system and data manually

Can you tell me how is it partitioned?
First partition will be for photos etc, the 2nd will be for apps?
Can you pinpoint me the .apk file for CWM you use?
Also, what should I expect when doing the partition trought CMW? Its just an option saying to do the partition? I read taht is needed to mount/unmount things,I have NO IDEA on how to achieve that.
If u got access to pc, better do it on pc with minitool after making backup of your whole sdcard. Yes cwm can do it but who know when disaster strike u'll lose all your sdcard data. Better to be safe than sorry mate.

Well cwm 5 can be found by Googling ( cwm 5 for Samsung galaxy ace)
2. It's not how you think ..once you partition your SD card the partition is inaccessible to you ..example if on a 2 gb card if u create a partition of 512mb when u go to settings the phone will read your SD card as 1.5 gb
3. Cwm guides are readily available on you tube
4. As the other guys have said b4 u need to use apps like link2sd to be able to use the partition ..entirely for apps alone ...s2e is the best but works ONLY on cm7
5. During the partition process your SD card will be formatted !!!
Backup your Data first! !!!!
6. Anything else???
P.S. I can't provide links as I m on my phone and even on a PC I would have advised u to Google
So, in your example, on a 2GB card, the phone will read only 1,5GB, so what will be that 1,5GB for? And the 512MB what will they be for?
Thanks for the reply

1.5 gb will be for your media -photos videos files etc that 512 MB is accessible only through s2e,link2sd and other such apps( u see I know only these 2 ) this 512 MB can be used to store your apps ---I.e. move the dalvik cache to the SD card which in turn results in a lot of free internal space....
Once upon a time I had 120 apps on my phone and 50 MB was still remaining.
P.S. please don't ask what dalvik cache is ...Google it instead ..ull get better info
