[Q] Webtop/video problems after 2.3.4 - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've noticed that after i updated to 2.3.4 and installed the webtop mod, streaming video from websites is choppy and slow loading. I know its not my internet connection and it worked fine before the update. Any one having similar problems or know of a way to fix the issue?

I don't have that problem streaming videos.
The problem I have is that Entertainment Center now does not display full screen. It now has black bars on the sides with the video compressed horizontally both inside Webtop and out.

[Q] black flicker on playing videos

Just got the 10.1 3g 16GB.
During iplayer videos and others I get a black flicker in the top left quarter of the screen. I reckon its only a software issue. Using stock. Anyone found anything similar or how to make it go away?
thanks all.
I am getting a regular triangular shaped flicker at the top left of the screen when playing BBC iPlayer. Probably a Flash player issue so hopefully will be fixed with an update from Adobe as version 11 is just out. I am using the latest KH3 firmware on the Wifi Tab.
Yes it was BBC iplayer I was having this problem with, another thread had been created about this too. at lest it is most likely a software issue SMS this should be fixed soon

[Q][View] Has netflix been choppy on Hc?

I upgraded to HC just a couple of days after having my view. Today I went to watch some netflix and there was serious video lag/choppiness and the picture was behind the sound. I tried rebooting, uninstalling reinstalling and nada.. It streams fine on my asus transformer connected to the same wifi and crackle videos are streaming fine on my View. Has anyone else experienced this after upgrading to HC? I didnt watch anything on netflix when I had GB installed but my daughter said she did and it was fine.
I have the US Bestbuy Wifi Flyer and am having the same problem. Laggy and choppy Netflix streaming. There was one day where it got better, but the next time I opened it was having the problem again. Glad to know I'm not the only one.
I don't know if it's the ROM (using Westfire ATM) or HC.
Am having no problems with Netflix on my ICS Nexus S with NexusBeam ROM though. Really odd.

When starting up it looked choppy and almost pixeled.. but after letting it ride (stream) for 10 seconds it became crisspy clear. Only thing I dislike is the taskbar it takes away from "Full Screen".. in Netflix and movies... :/

2ND that but doesn't seem as crisp as it was in GB, maybe it was the video I was watching, I'm going to go back to a video I've seen before and check.
P.S. Also video size seems smaller and lifted due to the notification and guide bar being at the bottom now.
netflix full screen
yeah the changes to netflix were a downgrade. quite dissapointed. so there will probably never be an ota update to remove the task bar during playback for full screen playback? the bar needs a settings menu, if u want it to drop out of sight, you swipe it on/off. it gets in the way of some of my other apps screen space too. would this be something HTC/google would address with official updates?

Youtube in HQ mode

I have been noticing that youtube when in HQ mode has about a 5 second section where the voice and picture kinda match up and the pictures starts slowing down but then there will be 2 seconds where the picture speeds up to match the voice. The voice always sounds right, just the picture does a lil hop to catch up.
It's really noticeable if you watch the same video on your pc and then go back and watch it on your note.
Things I have tried:
I have tied using regular mode and it works just fine.
I have tried wifi and regular 3g connections. (haven't tried 4g yet bc I am about 2 hours away from any)
I have tried different wifi connections. (3 to be exact)
I have tried using the youtube widget and the youtube app.
I have tried the youtube website.
All of them do the same thing.
Has anyone else had/seen this issue?
Kevin Huffman
I'm going to bump this, i'm having the exact same issue. Had it before i rooted and overclocked the kernel, and even before i installed a custom rom. I've noticed that it only happens when i view a video in fullscreen/landscape, viewing it in portrait on Youtube is fine.
In addition, 1080p videos from my SD card play absolutely perfect.
It has to be a size/format issue
Hello All,
I did find that if I format a movie as the larger size it works just fine.
When looking at movies formatted for a Captivate (Galaxy S1 800x480) the note has the same issue.
I just got Game of Thrones Season 1 and I formatted it for the ipad (1200x760) and there is no issue at all.
Yay for weird stuff.
Hopefully ICS comes out and resolves the issue.
Thanks,
Kevin

[Q] Allshare cast dongle problem

I received my official Allshare cast dongle today and although it is working I can't seem to get videos that I play to appear on BOTH screens at the same time. On various youtube reviews/demos, I have seen people playing videos with it appearing on the TV and the GS3 screen simulaneously. When I play a video it only appears on the TV and on the GS3 screen I get either a black background (e.g. youtube player) or a black background with the allshare icon logo on it and the player controls (standard video player).
What do I need to do to get the video to appear on both screens at the same time?
Cheers,
Richard.
The only way is to install another video player because if you saw a video showing doing both then they been misleading you.
Im sure its possible. The YouTube videos i have seen are not just ones recorded at the official Galaxy S3 launch demo booths but also from a fair number of unofficial user demos using their home TV's. I doubt they are all deliberately faked.
Also the videos all use the standard built in Galaxy S3 video player too.

I've got an Allshare Cast myself and it has no settings so Samsung must have fiddled it up to have both screens working because obviously it looks better in a booth with both displays running.
And I think Samsung turn the display off when watching videos because obviously you not gonna be watching both and it saves a load of power, so guess you just have to wait for someone to create a mod to get that done.
The Allshare cast does NOT mirror when playing video.
What worries me is when using the video player, it permanently leaves the Allshare logo on the screen. It is very very dim, but surely that could still result in screen burn after many hours of video watching this way!

There is some lag, yes. It doesn't make games unplayable, but it could put you at a disadvantage for multiplayer. Some games which are currently free on the Samsung app store are free and have optimisations for this system. Modern Combat 3 maintains resolution but suffers framerate drops sometimes in dual screen mode. Asphalt 7 maintains framerate but lowers resolution when the screen gets busy. The TV displays the main game, and the phone has a map of the course which is quite cool.
There is a bit of luck here, as it depends on the quality of WiFi signal in your home and interference can affect how well this system works. Certainly it has its uses though and I suspect there will be firmware improvements for it.

bugger, I wish they'd hurry up and release to TV version, I have a top of the range samsung tv which will work as the cast dongle when they get around to enabling it, i'm hoping latency will be slightly less too as its a straight hop to the TV bypassing the HDMI connections.

Hi, I have had my dongle for a few weeks now. Few problems and very upset with lack of support from samsung. I read you're message while trying to solve my issues. I have just used vlc player from the market and it plays video on screen and the tv together. Hope it helps. Wonder if you know how to make the image fit the my tv screen, it cuts edges of at the moment. Thanks and good luck

Thanks. Yes I since discovered that VLC let you do the mirrored playback after looking very closely at some youtube videos that demonstrated this mode.
Out of interest what other problems are you having? I haven't had time to test mine all that much yet. One thing that annoys me is that there is no on/off button so I have to unplug it to turn it off (I have it hooked up to my HDMI auto switch).
I can't get it to fit tv properly, sometimes requires two or three attempts to connect. Streaming Iplayer has audio sync problems, there is no alternative for audio out to a sound system and today it disconnected and refused to connect for ages. Had to unplug and reset with button at least 3 times. When is first got it my phone had no option for allshare and Samsung don't have any support on it. No one could tell me that I had to update through Kies on my desktop to get this option. All in all I do like it and use it loads, I'm just hoping the new official jb firmware will increase stability. Funny enough the guy I bought it of on ebay here in Turkey emailed me asking for confirmation it works as he has had loads of negative feedback from selling them. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt Samsung to create some support pages. But as usual xda dev prevails.

I have noticed that if you change channel on the phone it automatically disconnects the allshare connection. I never turn it off for this reason. But not very eco friendly I know.

There is a firmware update in the Samsung app store for the allshare cast dongle, available today. So far, there is a rapid connection established to the unit, stable. Sound issues also are resolved so far. Great update.

[Q] Full screen playback issue with AT&T Jelly bean

I am fully stock, no root or unlock with the newest jelly bean for AT&T on my optimus g. I noticed when using chrome to view videos on websites the video turns black as soon as the on screen controls fade in full screen mode.
This is happening when using the newest version of chrome. is anyone else having this issue?
Here's how I reproduce the issue.
view any website with embedded video players such as gawker.
play an embedded video
set it to full screen
on my phone as soon as the on screen controls fade away, the video also becomes black.
I'm seeing this too
It's just an issue with chrome. It happens to us Sprint users as well. Use the stock browser. You won't have the problem.
ME TOO!
I would love to use Chrome and all of ts features but the lack of fullscreen video playback is a deal breaker for me. If you go back to the original version of Chrome that comes installed in the phone it works fine. But who wants an old version of Chrome? I mean the whole point of using the chrome browser is for all of its cool features and upgrades that happens when you update it. I left them a 1 start review on the comments hopefully they fix it.
