how to go from official OTA to a leak build? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey people I really need someone here to just point me in the right direction.I've read up but its pretty confusin because noone talks about the official OTA much.
I upgraded from .83 to the 2.3.4 OTA
My bootloader is unlocked too EDIt it's Locked
I have root though.
I've read that if I went straight to OTA I'm screwed as far as using RSD
CAn I use RSD to flash a 2.3.4 ROM or stock sbf?
Will it brick my phone?
I want to just flash something other than this OTA which doesnt let me do really anything can someone at least post a link that can help me with how to flash over the OTA? please any help will be appreciated!!! thanks

Most likely yes. Since you already have the pudding bootloader, it'll be fine. But not every rom works the same, so you gonna take extra care especially when you want to downgrade to lower versions.

I have the at&t OTA that was released a few days ago so you're saying I can use RSD to flash the 2.3.4 leak build?
EDIt my bootloader is Locked im sorry root is the onlything I have I apologize

Well isn't what unlocked bootloaders and recovery are for? Should be able to flash your 2.3.4 alien rom and boot/shutdown and flash the faux kernel. That's if your AT&T.
Besides I hear RSD after bootloader and it's update is a big no no. Especially since many bricks posts "hhhhhheeeeelllllpppp meeee im bricked!?"

Stock OTA 2.3.4/4.5.91 AT&T with just ROOT right NO bootloader UNLOCK?
You just can RSD same 2.3.4/4.5.91 sbf so far YOU CAN NOT RSD ANY MOTO DOWNGRADE FOR EXAMPLE 1.26 1.57 1.83
If you decide to unlock your bootloader you can flash by CWM or moto-fastboot almost anything from dev for ATRIX
so the deal here is to unlock the bootloader

[Q] Official Gingerbread: will it offer unlocking bootloader?

I am currently waiting on the official Gingerbread to be released rather than flashing the custom 2.3.4 build that's floating around XDA. I'm basically wondering if, when the official Gingerbread is released, will the unlocking option be available in the update or will I have to do something else to actually unlock the bootloader? If it isn't an option that Motorola will provide, will it be easy after the update or should I update it now?
Lastly, I am using GingerBlur 4.5, so I'm assuming I will have to flash back to 4.1.8.3 to get the official update? I'm VERY worried about hard bricking my phone so what do I want to avoid (and why do I want to avoid so and so)??
Thanks for the help.

Bootloader for the official ota 4.5.91 update floating around the forums does not allow you to unlock it. At least not officially. You can still use pudding sbf to unlock. Check pudding thread.
Also updating to the official ota update 4.5.91 posted here you cannot SBF back to an old 4.1.26, .57, or .83 SBF or you will hard brick. This means don't flash anything besides the bootloader pudding sbf with RSD lite.
Chances are we already have gingerbread for AT&T Atrix but we will find out soon enough.

You will probably need to SBF back to 4.1.83 to install the update, but u should be notified about the update when its available, unless you froze updater 2.2.1 with titanium backup.

This thread might help clarify regarding the locked bootloader:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158428
Unlock it right now with pudding and flash lastest 2.3.4 with CWM. After that you are going to ask yourself: why didn't I do that before?

[Q] Can http://www.multiupload.com/C0I82IXH7V be flashed over GingerBlur??

Although this is my first post, I have been reading hundreds of threads on this site for months now...
I know this post should be in the developer-related forums but being a newbie I am not allowed to post in that section.
My question is can that SBF be flashed over GingerBlur...here is what I am running with a LOCKED bootloader.
Version.4.1.83.MB860.ATT.en.US
Android 2.2.2
Baseband N_01.77.15P
Kernel 2.63.9-00007-g527fe10
Build GingerBlur 4
Please respond ASAP I just OTA Gingerbread onto my girlfriend's Atrix because she doesn't want to fool around with all this and am DYING to get my hands on a rooted, unlocked Gingerbread Atrix!
At least if you want an unlock bootloader the only option so far for an AT&T unit is flashing pudding no matter what version you have (1.83 or 2.3.4/4.5.91)

Seems like this question is asked a lot and I want to know the "straight" answer too. Would downgrading to deodexed 1.8.3 via recovery from Gingerblur be enough in order to flash SBF gingerbread and unlock? Or should I SBF back to an old AT&T version and update to 1.8.3 before going to Gingerbread? Thanks.

Exactly!! And can it be done over GingerBlur or CherryBlur as I have seen asked on here for the past day or so consistently with no concrete answers.

If you're on 1.8.3 (I don't care what P-ROM you have installed), you can simply flash the above SBF to obtain GB w/o the consequence of not being able to revert to 1.8.3

Love it. It's clean, quick, and reliable.
So, using that link will it unlock the bootloader too? P-ROM would be gingerblur correct? I am sorry, I am kind of new to the Atrix scene. Gingerblur was really simple, but the rest is kind of out of my league at the moment.

That's right, it will unlock your bootloader if you were on 1.8.3.
Make sure you have a full battery before flashing!
Charged that baby all night, today was the day I got Gingerbread. I just wanted to make sure everything is in order before flashing.
Just finished installing it, holy crap. Every app is saved. It seems I'm still rooting too. How do I tell if I'm unlocked?
edit: Ah, nevermind I'm not rooted. Guess thats something I'm going to have to do now.

I suggest you take your pick of modified ROMs our devs have developed
Ninja
CherryBlur
RedPill
Kenn's Rom with Extras
Couple other news ones have popped up recently, but i'd give them some time.
If you want stock, I suggest flashing the 4.5.91 SBF WITH pudding and root already built in.
I'm trying to use sbf_flash to flash to gingerbread, but it is failing with checksum errors. any suggestions?

Not familiar with sbf_flash, but which SBF gingerbread are you trying to flash?
I am trying to flash pudding. Does the phone need to be unlocked first? How can I tell if it is unlocked?

[Q] installing a custom rom

What will happen if I try ti install a custom rom without unlocking my bootloader?
You might not have an access to your device.
Its wrong to do that, it will make you troubles.
Just read here and start doing things right: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600
Thanks for the link and that sucks things were so much easier when I was in froyo I could easily install about any rom I wanted.
So let me ask can I flash back to the last froyo firmware I had and still have on computer with RSD LITE this 2.3.4 gingerbread update was installed OTA.

froyo/gingerbread, it didnt matter. there were no real roms until we got unlocked bootloader. i have no idea what you are talking about roms being easier to flash when you had froyo.....
unlock bootloader
flash rom
get bored
flash new rom
get bored
flash new rom
its REALLY easy to flash a rom.....what is your hesitation?
Before I updated to gingerbread I didn't have to have on a unlocked bootloader to install any p-roms or roms like a had gladiAtrix but now I keep hearing I have to be unlocked to install a rom but I don't want to unlock my ATRIX yet I might need my warranty

P roms weren't real roms they were just a compilation of system edits to get around the locked bootloader. If you try to downgrade to froyo you'll brick your device. Your only option now is to unlock the bootloader. If you need you're warranty in the future you can flash a stock gingerbread sbf to goop back to stock with no visible sign of an unlocked bootloader

[Q] Critical Update for 4.5.141.en.us from motorola- OK to update?

My info-
on ATT
Unlocked
Rooted
4.5.91
Android Version 2.3.4
Alien #4
ROM Manager v5.0.0.7
Should I install the "critical update" from Motorola? I just started to see the notices.
Will it cause issues with my current setup?
Thanks,
Sean

There's an update?
Since you're on Alien/rooted/unlocked BL I would recommend against taking any OTA update. It would most likely fail anyway.
EDIT- I just noticed you're on 4.5.91, you must be seeing the notifications for the 4.5.141 update. You had me all excited that there was some other update out.
Thanks Stewart- poor reading comprehension on my part.
That answers it.
No!
S Do not update, there are multiple posts of people bricking their phone attempting to update, if you continually get requests to update you can freeze updater with titanium backup. If you want to update with newer firmware I would suggest taking a look at the many newer gb roms or even a move to cm7 if you really want something a bit different, as far as I am aware there aren't going to be any more updates to Alien.
I'm on a stock 4.5.141 myself, with a few enhancements. I had an unlocked bootloader on 4.5.91, updated using the 4.5.141 SBF, and could re-unlock the bootloader. Then CWM and start flashing zips (like root).
I'm still waiting with bated breath for an ICS leak.

Dont do this. You're unlocked, treat RSD as if it doesnt exist. If I were you, I'd try to find either a .141 fruitcake (CWM flashable versions of RSD files) or switch to a .141 based rom if you want to stick with blur.

I have done what I said I would and it did not brick my device. There is a risk if you flash the wrong sbf or downgrade.

Most don't reccomend this however as too many possible things can go wrong. Also is alot more work to fix if something goes wrong. A flashable fruitcake or rom is more simple to do in the first place and if something does go wrong is easier to fix. Also the roms available kick butt over the stock rom.
