Got an unrooted Asus transformer and was wondering if anybody has been able to tether from their EVO 3d. there are issues with WiFi tether on the EVO 3d so curious if anybody found a work around. Tried barnacle tether but the Asus doesn't recognize adhoc.

Tried this and no go on either my laptop or the Asus. It connects but no data is transferred. I started a thread about people not being able to connect with WiFi tether and many people have same issue. It seems like it boils down to a few things. One, did you temp root before permanent root? Did you take all the otas before rooting? I never temp rooted, did permanent root. I also took all otas and no matter what I do I can't connect with WiFi tether unless I do the barnacle trick first. See my thread weird way to connect WiFi tether. I appreciate your help.

I have a Transformer tethering up nicely with my 3VO. Stand by and I'll post the links for the version of wifi I used. I think I may have to pull it from the phone as if I remember correctly it was a beta they pulled ...
Ok here is the only one I could get to work.
I used auto for device profile and auto for the setup, then have encryption selected, I also selected the routing fix. Just make sure under setup method when you start it that it isn't on "ad-hoc" as the transformer cant use that without rooting. Oh and also make sure the channel it defaults to is a low number, I think the transformer can only use up to channel 9 unless rooted. Don't quote me on that as I'd have to look it up to make sure. Rooting the transformer is pretty easy using the nvflash method so thats always an option for you too. feel free to pm me if you have any further questions.
Let me know if this works for you, like I said I have it up and running fine.

Appreciate the help... Are you stock ROM? Did you temp root before permanent root? Did you take the otas? Just trying to figure out why so many of us are having issues as i tried many versions. Hopefully yours will work. I'm still stock on software 1.13.

I took all ota's and then had this working while temp rooted, tested after full root and it works nicely still. I also applied xHausx's MTU tweak and now have it working on 4g and 3g.

Barnacle worked for me on both temp root and permanent root. Ive accepted all updates on the Asus but they didnt have any effect. Its always worked for me. Also check out the hotspot unlock for the 3D. I can tether to the transformer that way as well.
Which hotspot hack did you use? Does it work on 3g and 4g for you? I'm going to test that out later today I was going to try all 3 methods (which I am sure are all the same) seems like a better way to do it to me. Of course I'm a minimalist when it comes to apps.
edit: Joels hotspot works perfect, although you have to be on a deodexed rom.

How did you get the Asus to see barnacle? Is your Asus rooted? My Asus is stock not rooted and doesn't see adhoc therefore not seeing barnacle.

It is rooted now. Is that something they changed? I swear I thought it was working before it was rooted too though? Ive been using Barnacle since temp root came out for the 3D. And just rooted the Asus last week. I could be wrong. If being rooted will make it work, then yes mine is.
That's very strange ... wish I could help more, maybe try this out it is the hotspot unlock that also works for me. You just need to be on a "deodexed" rom. I'm using viperboys rom and it works fine too. It might be easier just to take the plunge and nvflash prime 1.6 to your asus ...

His is the one I used. Sorry for the late response. Im running RLS1 of the Shooter Rewind ROM, where hotspot unlock wasnt incorporated. Most of the newer roms have this included though.

Depends on the ROM but if the rom you are using has the ad-hoc tweak then yeppers thats why it sees it.
Ahh thats from Joels rom, just tried it and works for me too, thanks!

Alright, Currently I have the 2.3.4 gingerbread version of the Atrix rooted. For some reason I can not get any of the wireless tethering root apps to work. This includes Wireless tether for root users, wifi tether and barnacle. None of these would work on my previous 2.2.2 root either. Any help? the logs say the programs are running fine but none of my devices can pick up the phone. This includes laptops and me Eee Pad. I have changed the SSID, added and removed wep. I do not know what I am doing wrong....
I know this probably won't help much but the same thing was happening to me when I first rooted my Atrix and the Wireless Tether app. I turned off the password and everything worked fine after that. I can always see who is trying to connect to my network anyway so I know if anybody is trying to steal my network.

Why not root and change the entitlement check then use the built in mobile hotspot app.
I've been using it with no problem and used the custom apn method before GB

They can tell much easier that you are tethering without a plan if you are using custom APN's.
The custom apn will not work on gingerbread. The ota will not allow changes like froyo did.

I got slightly different issue, wireless tether for root - clients can see the AP and connect at layer 2, but refuse to take a DHCP address and never actually get an IP address. This happens both with and without encryption.
Too cheap to buy sqlite editor to do the mod
Let me start by saying I take no credit for discovering this I am simply passing along information I found that I thought may be useful... I actually stumbled across it here... http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/issues/detail?id=1057&q=evo 3d
Not sure if this has been brought up but I figure this will help until these issues are resolved. Basically you have to download both barnacle wireless tether and wifi tether 3.1 beta 2. In order for wifi tether to work you first have to start barnacle tethering, once it starts close it out then start up wifi tethering and voila you should connect. I have tested this with both 3g and 4g and connected and transferred data on both. You only have to open barnacle once unless you reboot. If you reboot or restart your phone, you have to start barnacle again, close it and then start wifi tether. I have no idea why or how this works but it does. Hopefully somebody more skilled than I can figure out what is happening as it doesn't seem to be kernel related as originally thought. Would love to hear back on results and maybe devs ideas as to how and why this works.
I can confirm also I have temp root couldn't get WiFi tether to work and my tab doesn't do ad hoc. It's working fine now thanks

Are you sure you're not on 4G and that's why it is working for you? I mean, it does connect and it acts like it "wants" to work, but no go. Trying to connect to any website via the tether is just nada.

Glad this helped some of u. I'm the guy who discovered the weird way to get wifi tether working by using barnacle. I posted it here a few weeks ago http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15599383#post15599383
Then I posted the issue on google code so that the dev would do something about it.
It's really bugging me since I have to turn off my phone everyday b/c there is no signal at work. Then I have to do the barnacle trick everyday. I cannot get cable/dsl/fios at home so I have to use wifi tether everyday. Sucks ass, but it's better than satellite. I think I'll wait a week till perm-root & roms are mature and flash something with the native hotspot unlocked. If you prem-rooted then u should just flash a rom now.
BTW I only use 3G obviously.. since I don;t live in the city and Clear doesn;t know how to run a business. I've tried wifi tether pre14 and the other versions which worked..i just stick to the latest. If u still can't get it to work try using device profile thunderbolt or evo 4g. I think I've been using evo 4g.

I'm assuming you are temp rooted, and I believe this is why pre 14 is working. I took the ota updates before rooting permanently and none of the WiFi tether work unless I use your trick. So its either a temp root thing or an ota thing.

It is supposed to turn wifi off.... It is the router or hotspot or however you see it.
So nobody has gotten the wifi tether app from gb to work?
So this allows you to use the Mobile Hotspot app for free? Or do you mean it just allows you to use it on this phone? Might also want to clarify that before people start getting charged extra tethering charges.
You can use googles wireless tether beta 11 to wireless tether. You have to change the device profile to samsung galaxy nexus lte cdma then change the setup method to netd (master) then you will be able to tether without changing the entitlement value

Mine was working. I recently changed to a different ROM.. the SQlite hack works flawlessly so you can use the stock wifi tether app.
If you go the sqlite way you have to be using version 1.5 or you get that error 14 code. Also the beta 11 version won't work for the nook because its not an lte device. But it does work for leaked ics because that's what I'm running

"You can use aSQLite manager and aShell instead of SQLlite for free in the market (bit of a noob so took me a while to understand any of this). Path is data/data/com.motorola.android.providers.settings to get to it"

This might not pertain to many of you but I was having the issue where my computer would pick up my phone but wouldn't connect to the internet. I was on Windows 7 using an N adapter. I heard that foxfi 2.12 now supports jellybean devices, but supposedly only Verizon ones thus far. Has anybody running jellybean on their LTEVO been able to get foxfi or anything else to work without root?
When I turn on my foxfi, it automatically launches Sprint Mobile Hotspot, and it overrides Foxfi because devices trying to connect see the Sprint Mobile Hotspot instead of Foxfi.
Workarounds? Tips? Advice?

When I turn on my foxfi, it automatically launches Sprint Mobile Hotspot, and it overrides Foxfi because devices trying to connect see the Sprint Mobile Hotspot instead of Foxfi.
Workarounds? Tips? Advice?

With all due respect , do you think I would have bothered to create this thread to ask a question if I was willing to root? Please, no trolling
Before I rooted, I looked and looked and couldn't find anything other than FoxFi that would do it. After I updated to JellyBean, it didn't work. That's the main reason I rooted, and now that I did root, I would never not root a device again, it's so much better. Your options are:
A) Pay Sprint $20 a month for a hotspot
B) Root
C) Downgrade your software (which I don't think is possible without root)
D) Wait for FoxFi to update some more
E) use PdaNet+ and only use USB tethering
F) Not have a Hotspot
Don't forget to use the thanks button!
Model: HTC Evo 4G LTE
Rom: Sense 5 Port
Kernel: Arc Reactor 0.3 capped at 1.89
Bootloader: HBoot 2.09 S-Off Facepalm
Recovery: TWRP 2.5.0.0
Best thing to do is root.
you can't make a phone do what you want if you aren't willing to get the privileges to do it. it's like having an admin account on your computer....wouldn't you rather have full control instead of being restricted?
If you're worried about harming your device, then just be extra careful and follow the directions step by step. past that, you're stuck with what you've got.
keep in mind that s-off is not the same as root. I think you SHOULD go s-off, but at least get your device to be YOUR device.
so if i follow this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38UOPSoJOPs after that i can load whatever ROM I want and stuff, right?
I'm not sure if the method in video is still compatible with recent software updates.
Head over to the development threads and the stickies and there are threads on how to root, and video links. There are good guides and lots of good info.
I too, consider root a necessity for android devices.

Well, what went wrong exactly? I also rooted and S-offed mine last night, albeit, successfully... PM or email me and I will help you out if you want.
I bet you didn't get TWRP to stick... Ran into some things myself.
USB
I've tried to USB tether with FoxFi/PDAnet but the option is not available; only WiFi tethering is allowed. I would rather not use WiFi (less secure, and slower than USB from what I've heard). Can someone help me get this working? Below are my specs:
Rom: BeanStalk
Kernel: stock
Bootloader: HBoot 2.09 S-Off Moonshine
Recovery: TWRP 2.6.3.0
OS X 10.9.1 - Mavericks / Parallels Win7
Well I just got a Galaxy Note 2 on Sprint. I on the unlimited plan and I get 5GB of hot spot usage. For the first 2 weeks I was using foxfi and the data was being recorded as non hot spot data. Just seen now that for the last week foxfi is now using my hot spot data. What changed and is there a way I can teather with out data being recorded as hot spot usaged?
