Use Root Explorer to copy the .apk to a folder on your sd card and try it. If something breaks, you can just stick it back in through terminal emulator.

i dont know if you guys ever tried it but i just did it and it force closed like crazy but then i pulled battery rebooted and everything went back to normal and everything is fine.

I also removed /system/app/HtcLoggers.apk . Watching logcat, packagemanager removes the package and its receivers and activities:
Receivers: com.htc.loggers.BootCompleteReceiver com.htc.loggers.PackageReceiver com.htc.loggers.SecretCodeReceiver com.htc.loggers.MediaMountReceiver
D/PackageManager( 280): Activities: com.htc.loggers.MainActivity com.htc.loggers.CollectLogs com.htc.loggers.SnapshotReport com.htc.loggers.SystemLoggers com.htc.loggers.BatteryLogger
Then the application HtcLoggers, which is already loaded in memory, does not properly remove itself and continues to cause FC issues. I restarted the phone through ./adb shell reboot. Everything was fine after that. The HTC Logging apk doesn't gracefully remove itself .. surprise! Appears it is safe to remove the apk file, just be prepared for FC issues if you remove it while it is loaded. Another way to remove it, but w/o the FC issues, would be to remove it while booted in recovery mode.
Hope that helps clarify!

I can't seem to remove it from astro or file explorer anybody have any suggestions? I am rooted.

Use Android Commander. It's a desktop program that will help to remove it, and more. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=628138

If anyone wants to see I made a video on how to remove the htclogger.apk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDOZ-QudPeY

I freeze it with TB with no ill effects. Everything is running smoothly as usual.

Not receiving picture texts.....

Hello all, I was hoping someone may have run into this and might could give me some feedback.
I have my phone rooted, and use Handcent for texting. I have no problems sending pictures......and up until recently, I've had no problems receiving pictures either. At first I thought it was just going to be iPhone users, but have since experienced the problem getting pics from various phones and carriers.
iPhone4 - Verizon
iPhone3 - AT&T
Samsung Eternity - AT&T
There are a few others as well. I have disabled the original messaging app, and only use Handcent. I've had no problems until the past couple of weeks. I am wondering if maybe it isn't an update issue from Handcent......I know it has manually updated a couple of times in the past few weeks.
Anyone have any suggestions?
What do you mean when you say you disabled the original app?
What ROM/kernel are you using?

Firmware 2.1update1
Kernel 2.6.29
I rooted simply to remove bloatware, I haven't changed to any of the different ROM's or anything.
I deleted MMS.apk. I wanted to try to reinstall it, to see if maybe one of the Handcent updates caused the problem somehow, after I deleted the MMS app......but I can't get it to install. I downloaded the MMS.apk on my desktop, and open it through MyFiles. I've done a few apps this way, no problem.
MMS.apk you have to push to /system/app
You cant install it like you would a normal apk.

You can install it with ESFile Explorer if you are rooted. You can find it on the market for free. You'll then need to find a mms.apk place it on your sdcard.. then using ESFile copy the apk and place it in system/apps/
Another option would be to download GeekSMS.. it runs on its on without the mms.apk. I've tried it and it worked fine for me.

Ok cool.
Can anyone tell me how to use RootExplorer to reinstall MSS then?
Thanks!
copy it to you sdcard
paste Mms.apk in /system/apps using Root Explorer.
Click it once you paste it there, install.

Ok, I have it on my SD....and long press -----> copy, but can't figure out how to paste it into RE.
Sorry for being such a noob.
Ok, figured out how to paste in RootExplorer.
Now that I did that, I ran MMS after pasting......it still won't install. It boots like its going to install the app, then I get a message saying it didn't install. I got the same thing when I just copied the APK into MyFiles and tried installing it.
What am I missing?
You're not supposed to try and install it. You move it into the /system/app and then it should show up in your app drawer.

How to get AdFree app works ?

I just don't see that it works ..
Plz help.
Thanks
Requires root... Install host files... Reboot
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Yes, did it ... still have ads in apps.. like Ninjump
Don't feel bad, it doesn't work for me either. Seems odd that it does work for some people and not others.
Are you sure your rooted? Uninstall and try again

Very sure I am rooted ( Ti Backup works just fine and I can use su in terminal). I have even uninstalled adfree and reinstalled with no luck. Hell, I even tried replacing the hosts file manually with a list that's kicking around on the forums. Still nothing. Just for ****s and giggles, I am re-downloading it right now. Its been a few weeks, maybe it'll work
No dice. Symlink is unchecked. Cleaning the cache now and will try again.
edit: still no luck. To be honest, its only my weathereye app that I'd really like to see the ads disappear from. I'd like to tear apart the apk and find the source of the problem, but I have never attempted something like that !
Guys I badly need help with this!
For those that got this to work what did you use? (Which Root method, and anything special done inside the app? I do have Symlink unchecked)
Specifically any Bell Users, how did you guys get this working? HELP!...

I'm completely rooted, and have done this exactly like I have on my Milestone and SGS.
Is there a way to get this going manually, since this app doesn't appear to work on the (Bell) Atrix?... Thanks!
Didn't you already post this in another thread ??
It's weird, when I installed GreyBlur when I first got my phone, the adblocking built in to it worked and I never saw any ads anywhere (It does the same thing as adFree I believe, so it's comparable...) but then a little later I reverted to a backup for some reason, so no adblocking naturally. And when I installed GB3.5 (now I'm on 4.5) I haven't been able to block ads at all since, either with just GB or with AdFree.
Until yesterday ADFREE was blocking all ads. After the upgrade stopped. The ads are appearing as if nothing block then.
This occurs in both wifi and 3G (Tim - Brazil)
Any solution ?
Tks !!
Edit:
I managed to make it work:
- Uninstall, reboot and install again
- Clear data from applications that have ads
- Restart if necessary
work that way here.
This thread seems to work for some: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122086

Req: adfree modified to work with temp root

If anyone has a way to temp modify the hosts file to strip ads from the evo3d or has a modified version of adfree that works with the perm temp root method.
Thanks in advance

I just tried it on my Evo 3D, I checked both the symlink options. I suppose it will stick until a reboot, not unlike the perm-temp root.
Hmm. I chose the symlink options but it's not working.

I think a big issue is you need to reboot to flush the dns. But then when you reboot, you lose root. I just posted the question in the q&a forum if there was anyway to flush the dns without rebooting. So far no replies.
I'll look into that, if I come up with something ill post it here. The ads are making my eyes bleed.

Fantastic idea. I would love this as well.
Maybe we can push the hosts file with temp root after reboot.
This would be awesome. Adfree is the root app I've been missing the most since getting my EVO 3D.
Install ad free, update files, reboot, reroot. Open app and it will be granted su permissions. After that, dont update or reboot and your fine. Been running it perfect for 5 days. Dont forget you have to partition your sd card. If you have your old rooted phone, put the sd card in it and use rom manager. It WILL WIPE YOUR CARD. Always back it up.

Confirmed this works. I don't know what the sd partition had to do with hosts file, but it didn't work without it. Thanks randy.

partition for ad free
i believe, and anyone feel free to jump in on this, it stores the host files there for the ads on the sd card. if it recognizes the app is trying to access the host files, kind of like a little quarantine or filter, it stops it. With the updates (and ad free asks to report adds that leak through) it adds to those files in that partition. Just a guess.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I'm still getting adds. I did what u said but it's not working for me for some reason. I'm sure it's something I'm doing or not doing.
Edit: So I don't understand this but I tried this several times and it didn't work. So I uninstalled ad free and then reinstalled it and updated it and then without rebooting or re-rooting I went into astro and I now have no adds. Kinda weird but hey, it's working.

I just rooted my phone and i wanted to uninstall some pre-installed apps that came with the phone from my network but i don't see them on the menu in 'Uninstaller'
Can you help me please?
Also can i delete the 'Super user' icon so my phone appears to be stock/non-rooted?
I downloaded ES file manager/astro file manager and none could remove the apps 'error removing .apk' There is only like 3-4 things i wish to remove *sigh*
Download Titanium Backup from the market, this will uninstall the .apks that you want to get rid of.

Any other app that does the same? I don't want to spend $6.50 Just to delete a couple of things, I'll only use it to delete like 5 things.. seems like a waste.
I downloaded the free one and it says it'll delete the app/reboot twice etc.. but it doesnt delete the app or reboot twice, Only restarts the phone
Don't use the 'force remove app' option then, just cliick the one you want to delete in the list and click uninstall.

Ok, but it's not that simple, you can't delete everything without consquences, search for the list of files that can be deleted without harm, from your specific ROM!

So what does this mean ??
Does it mean "Sorry for making the 1st post its not a good idea after all"
does it mean "Sorry for the last post i need to learn to fully test crap before I big my my ideas up"
Does it mean "Sorry i got over excited and spammed this info before i propely tested it" .........
Can't say i'll be trying it sounds barely worth the hassle.

I am not responsible for anything!!! Most apps may misbehave...
Yesterday, I saw a comment on superuser in market saying: "nice way to filter what apps need root permissions"
Then I thought... maybe su is just a way to filter... so I froze it... all root apps work!!
There is no need for superuser app, however you should only freeze it, not uninstall, because most apps check root if there is su app installed
So, just freeze it and enjoy! This will free some ram, bacause of it's constant process, and it really makes app do root operations faster!!(no more delay for deleting etc)

how can I freeze it?
I'd rather have superuser since it warns you when an app requests su permission. You have a security hole if there is no warning that a bad app could take advantage of. Even though the chance is rare if you stick to legit apps.
What do u mean FREEZE it ?? wat does freezing an app means ???

Freezing it is like preventing it from opening or running. It is still installed on your device but it doesn't show up in the app drawer and you can't open it.

A lot of app managers can freeze apps. Titanium backup can, i don't know about ROM Toolbox. And there are even apps that are meant for freezing apps.
