A couple people have asked how my power control widget is transparent so I thought I would share the simple process.
Disclaimer: blah blah we have all seen it, this modifies settings.apk so it can put you in a boot loop. (Keep a current backup)
**This info is already online and I just tried to organize it in an easy to follow manner, there are also multiple ways to achieve the end result**
Necessities:
Ninjamorph (free in market) and a File manager/explorer (I use root explorer)
1: open ninjamorph, grant SU and let it perform its checks. It will probably error on SD card space. Reopen it and you should get no errors (unless you are in usb transfer mode)
2. Select new project and navigate to /system/app/settings.apk
3. Ninjamorph will extract the files to /Sdcard/AndroidThemes/Workspace/settings.apk
4.Back out of ninjamorph and find the files I have attached at the bottom.
note: if you do not want RED active (on) lights only use the appwidget_bg.9.png file (this will leave the "on" setting green
5. In Root Explorer (or your file manager) copy these files and navigate /SDcard/AndroidThemes/Workspace/settings.apk/res/drawable-hdpi.
6. Paste the files. They will overwrite the existing appwidget_bg.9.png along with appwidget_settings_ind_on (left center and right) 4 files total.
7. Back out of root explorer and reopen Ninjamorph.
8. Go back in Ninjamorph and hit back until you can select "Finish Project" near the botton of the app
9. Select settings.apk and let it do its thing. It will ask if you would like to zipalign. choose yes. It will ask to clean up the project. Choose no or yes, doesnt matter since you replaced the files with your file manager.
10. All done! The phone will reboot and you can now add your transparent power control to the home screen

Sure, After you click the link about halfway down on the page click "free download"
Wait a second and click it again when it says "download now"
The file is an RAR which will need either 7zip or WinRAR to grab the 4 .png files out of the archive.
If anyone is a non-techie, Widgetsoid is a free widget that is highly customizable power control widget that can be set to transparent and has a large number of control options.s.

For those like me who need corporate sync and like the blur universal inbox you can install just that portion of the moto bloatware instead of all of it.
** EDIT ** I'm adding a couple more applications now. Please, others jump in to do other applications because I'm out of time working on my Atrix for this week!
** WARNING ** I'm not an android dev and this process has only been tested on my phone. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
There are 3 files attached.
messaging.zip - restores original blur messagine apps, including corporate sync, txt messaging with balloon conversation mode, and the universal inbox. It does not have the messaging widget.
taskman.zip - if you liked moto's Task Manager app, this will restore it for you so you can kill tasks and uninstall like before GB.
gallery.zip - restores the moto Medial Gallery application. Note the GB version of Gallery will still exist and both will work.
Quick instructions:
* You will need CWM Recovery for this
* Follow CWM instructions exactly - especially the part about plugging into the AC adapter or it won't work!
**NOTE** this will also install the original blur txt messaging interface with the conversation balloon mode. Its all one application so no way around it that I know of.
1) copy one of the zip files (attached) to your sdcard root directory
2) run CWM according to instructions in its thread
3) after reboot into CWM select "Install zip from SDCARD"
4) select "Choose zip from internal sdcard"
5) scroll down to the zip file name (ex: messaging.zip)
6) select the file (power button) and run the update
7) go back to main menu and select "Reboot system now"
A few steps but doesn't take long. I just pulled these out of the gingerblur-bloatware.zip and figured out what file structure you have to leave in place for it to function.
Hope this will save people some time.

I think there's a bloatware restorer on the greyblur site. Try that.
Will that install it all back tho or will i be able to pic
well ill look at it and see if it can do only one thing
thanks i forgot about that
Alright so i found them in the files there how do i delete the new one and get this old one back on there? im so confused help!
Still have not figured it out some one help?

That thread helped me how 2 install the files but i cant install them it tells me
Application not installed any clue how 2 fix this and remove the old one some thing? any one?
You need to download the messaging bloatware zip, reboot into recoverymode and use CWM to install that zip file... It's the same process as installing grey/gingerblur.
Well if i new where the messaging bloatware zip was i would try 2 get that
i know they have the full one with everything but is there one with only the messaging part? or some thing like that?
Well i tryed 2 just install the messager part and i soft bricked my phone just fixed that but still dont have the old messaging system
Go to the android development section and find the gingerblur thread (it shouldn't be difficult). Then go to the gingerblur website given in the thread and download the bloatware.zip. you will also need tenfars cwm recovery which is in the development section also. Then just flash the zip file using the cwm recovery guide. Make sure your phone is plugged into a wall outlet charger when you do this (not a computer USB port) or it won't work.

Hi guys,
Is it possible to have ICS browser on Froyo? I've heard alot of good things about ICS browser, hence I was wondering.
Thanks
Hold on, I'm going to see if I can get it to work on my phone even though I'm 2.3.7 (Gingerbread)....
Load it up here (I don't have the APK) and I'll give it a shot on Froyo tonight and let you now.
Doesn't work (at least on 2.3.7 Firmware), it won't even show up on the home screen. Although I didn't expect it to work, I'm kind of disappointed...
I've uploaded the .apk, and "phrozenflame" if you want to try it yourself this is what you do...
1. Download the browser.apk and put it in somewhere
2. Open the app Root Explorer (if you don't have it download it for 3.99$ from the AM)
3. Follow this directory "/System/App" then copy the "browser.apk" in this folder and back it up to somewhere on your SD card (Directory: "/sdcard").
4. Copy the newly downloaded "browser.apk" and paste it into /system/app -- you'll need to press the button on the top right that says "Mount R/W".
5. Long-press on the newly pasted apk file and select Permissions.
6. Change the permissions to User: Read - Write, Group: Read, Others: Read (See attached image for visual)
7. Click Okay
8. Click the Mount R/O button, then reboot.
By the way, if you want ICS there is an ICS ROM in development. So far it's coming together nicely (but until they fix video recording I'm not trying it). Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362961
Cheers, many thanks guys!
would flash be broken if it did work?
I'm pretty sure all the improvements are under the hood and in framework

Hi!
I jzt wanted to know if someone could help me with one feature that these new firmwares have. Once I turn off the screen, youtube stops playing. I really liked before that I could turn the screen off and still listen youtube in the earlier versions. I dunno if the playback gets cut off because of the new firmware or if it's a new feature in newer youtube apps, but's I'd really like to be able to listen youtube while the screen is off. Any tips? Thnx!
First off yourll have to say if your rooted or not or on a custom ROM or not.To me it sounds like your on a stock unrooted Firmware.Im rooted on Omega ROM with a youtube App that has a download feature.I can watch videaos of any lenght and the screen doesnt turn off. Also if I turn the screen off myself I can still listen to the video thats playing.
I'm on darkyrom LA4 base. Also tried resurrection rom with ICS a while back with the same result. Might hafta try something else then...

The youtube app in Omega rom is great. It is how a youtube app should be.
sent from my fingers to your face.
I believe its down to how the YouTube app is developed; No playback in background or when screen is off.
Tomorrow morning when Im not on my phone Ill upload the youtube apk from my rom.Youll need to pass it to the System/app folder with root explorer but Ill put up the instructions.Like i said at the moment Im on my phone so cant upload.
I know I said Id do it tomrrow but I cant sleep thinking about this bloody Youtube apk. so Ill do it now.Ill write a rundown just incase your not sure what to do.Coming from another ROM it probably wont install as an apk. so if it wont then do this and it will install for sure.Do it twice to make sure though
NEED:Root explorer set to RW
first backup your exsisting apk. just incase.
1.Open root explorer and select System then app and go to YouTube
2.Hold finger down on apk. untill you get a menu and select "copy"
3.Now navegate to InternalSD/data and select "paste". and your done.
Now pass the new YouTube apk. to internalSD/download
1.open root explorer go to int.SD/download and hold finger down on apk.
2.from the menu that appears select "copy"
3.Now navegate to System/app and select "paste"
4.You will be prompted to overwrite exsisting apk. so select yes and your done.
Do the second proccess twice to make sure its copied and you should now see it in the app draw. The reason both apks. go to different folders is because if you put one inside a folder where another already exsists it will overwrite so you could loose your backup or the new one.Im going to bed
Amazing, thank you so much! That apk is gonna follow me wherever I go. xD
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Keep a copy on your PC too and pass it to all your ROMs so you have a good YouTube app on your phone at all times.

The YouTube apk. I put in the download folder in the internalSD so when I open root explorer I select sdcard/download and there it is.Basically you put it where you can find it(not on the externalSD) but I find this folder for me a good one to remember.Sometimes you need to do it twice in a row for it to work.If it doesnt then boot to recovery and fix permissions and wipe cache partition and see if that works. Also try androidkids way that he posted as it worked for him but Ive always done it as Ive posted. Also make sure that the YouTube app is the blue on that its meant to be.
EDIT:are you getting the message to overwrite exsisting app when you paste the new one?
Does anyone have a version of this for the latest version for youtube?
is there an updated version of this youtube which allows the screen to be off while still playing?

I figured out my problem! Appears that when I was creating the keystr file, I added the extension .txt ...
So here is the solution that have been posted on other threads
i actually figured out a way to restore my lock screen back.
Note: This involves messing with the efs folder. So do this at you own risk
also, your phone must be rooted in order to do this.
Tools Needed:
1. Hex Editor
2. Root Explorer
Steps to restore:'
1. Using root explorer locate the /efs/imei/ folder. In that folder there should be a file called keystr. In my case the file was missing which is why the lock screen was missing and was causing my problems.
2. using root explorer create a new file called keystr
3. also in root explorer open the file keystr in text editor and type ON
4. now go into hex editor and locate the /efs/imei/keystr file.
5. using hex editor the first two values in green should be 4f and 4e. all others should be 00.
6. make sure you save the file.
7. reboot.

Here you guys are! this is the only method that works, i tried everything, do this and reboot your phone a couple times, make sure the file stays there and enjoy your lockscreen!
Hi there! Just wanna share..
Just a basic background on how to theme your ROMS. - ofcourse, give thanks to the developer of your ROMs! .
I made this thread for those users who have personal wishes for their Phones. Ofcourse, ROM developers cannot please all of its users. so just make your own and be happy!.
I just made it easy for easy understanding and for the newbies.
Tried so many times and tested
I've already tried editing the systemUI.apk of different ROMs.
Here's what I did :
FIRST : Download 7zip to open the archived apk. - that's free.
Extracting first the Zip File..
(make sure you copy the original before extracting it for back up)
1. Download the ROM.zip and extract it to your PC.
2. Go to \system\app\SystemUI.apk\res\drawable-ldpi\
3. View the PNG files you wanted to change and make sure to remember its' file name.
4. After editing/changing the file/image you wanted, you can save it anywhere from your PC, let's say on your Desktop.
- Make sure that the file name still remains as is..
*After you're done editing, updating the PNG files you wish to change, follow this steps to update the zip file :
NOTE : You can apply transparency by editing the PNG file to photoshop by reducing the opacity of the image
1. Go to the original ZIP file of ROM.Zip from your PC
2. Right Click the folder and select 7 ZIP -->> open archive
3. Close all of windows/Browers (or minimize)
4. Go to \system\app\SystemUI.apk\res\drawable-ldpi\ and it will open a new window of 7zip showing the files inside the zip.
5. Now, given your edited PNG files or downloaded png files (assuming that files are located in your desktop). - Click and simply DRAG the file(s) from your desktop to \system\app\SystemUI.apk\res\drawable-ldpi\ .
6. It will ask you to confirm the action for it will replace the existing PNG file that you're trying to change.
7. Make sure that the file name of the one you edited/downloaded are THE SAME. -
8. After dragging and replacing the files you wanted, then you're good to go!
9. Close the 7zip window and that's it!.
You can now install the .zip by copying the UPDATED zip file to your SD Card.
(Note: Make sure to copy the updated one, not the backed up one)
Install the zip file from the original thread's instructions and reboot twice.
After that, you have now a customized systemUI.apk.
For those who do not want to reinstall the whole package.. follow these steps:
1. I assumed that you have the zip file of your ROM.
2. Extract it and go to \system\app\
3. Separate the SystemUi.apk - put it on your desktop. create a back up,
Right Click SystemUi.apk and select 7 ZIP -->> extract here - just to view the files you wanted to change.
Just go the folder and search for the PNG files.
4. Right Click SystemUi.apk and select 7 ZIP -->> open archive.
5. Go to \res\drawable-ldpi\
6. Click and simply DRAG the PNG file(s) from your desktop to \res\drawable-ldpi\
7. It will ask you to confirm the action for it will replace the existing PNG file that you're trying to change.
8. Make sure that the file name of the one you edited/downloaded are THE SAME. -
9. After dragging and replacing the files you wanted, then you're good to go!
APPLYING :
1. Download and install rootexplorer.apk
2. Download the png files you wanted to update.
3. Copy and paste the NEW SystemUi.apk that you have updated/Edited to your SD card.
4. Open root explorer in your galaxy y then go and tap MOUNT R/W.
5. Go to \SDCard and go to new SystemUI.apk that you have updated.
6. Long press the file and select copy
7. Press back and go to \system\app - tap MOUNT R/W at the top.
8. Paste the new SystemUI.apk from there.
(Note : You will encounter a lot of force closes for the exixsting systemui is currently being used by your phone. - just ignore it a lot and scroll down to look for the new SystemUI.apk.
9. Once you get there, long press on it and select permissions:
from the pop up, make the checked one like this :
•___•____ •
•___ .____.
•___ .____.
where Dots are the checked one - Bigger dots
After encountering a lot of force closes, then reboot the phone and that's it!
(Force Closes are normal, DON't PANIC - logically, you are currently using your systemUI.apk so just ignore it
NOTE : You can also apply the same steps in editing system files apps, just edit the .png files and locate it using 7zip(when you already opened it). Have a little LOGIC on how to edit system app background - same process. just different apk files and directory
HIT THANKS IF I HELPED YOU - IT COSTS NOTHING ;]
nice guide
you can also add this:
Install via ADB:
adb root
adb remount
adb push [file location in PC] /system/app/systemui.apk
Click to collapse
no need to set permissions via ADB
also its better to use apk multitool since it can compile/decompile the apk's, if you extract the apk using 7zip or archive softwares you can't read the XML's and you can't compile them properly which results to force close issues when pushing into system

Hmm... if you want a default wallpaper, create a folder named "Wallpaper" inside "SYSTEM" folder and create another folder inside it named "default_wallpaper" then put the jpg file you wanted..
(you can use rootexplorer)
make sure that the file name of the default wallpaper is "default_wallpaper.jpg"
how??
It worked perfectly :highfive: cheers !!! can we change the place of name of network carrier in the notification bar similarly???
