[Q] Question about gapps vanilla GB - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed JT's Vanilla GB rom, and flashed the gapps zip. What am I doing wrong, because I don't see any google apps, or even a market app. I flashed from recovery, then rebooted the phone?

Try it again, otherwise you are doing something wrong, possibly wrong file. Mine worked 5 mins ago.

Make sure you are getting into recovery using power menu > reboot > recovery. If it still doesn't work, then your downloaded zip file must be corrupt or something and re downloading might fix it.

((Q)) phone does not flash rom.

So I had nero 4.1
Went to flash ginger clone 2
Installed. But phone is stuck on bootloop
So I uzed odin to flash bak to stock
Everything went fine.
Bu not when I go to install the update.zip.... It doesnt seem to install it all the way.
Progression bar moves like a half an inch. Then says it installed.
I do have superuser w.e that **** is installed.
But when I go to flash a rom. It takes me to the "reinstall package screen" which tells me the update.zip did not install.
What can be wrong?
Ive gone bak to stock before. A d rooted again. No problem.

it SOUNDS like you are trying to flash the ROM useing the stock recovery.....this is a no-no. heres what you do:
1. ODIN back to stock, just to start fresh
2. Root your device, i like to use OCLF app from the market
3. download/install "ROM Manager" from the market
4. Select "Flash Clockwork recovery" (select vibrant as your device)
5. You now have Clockwork setup to be your recovery menu. to access it, just boot into recovery like you usually do, select "reinstall packages"....this will boot you into clockwork everytime.
6. Clockwork is pretty user friendly, to flash your ROM just select "choose zip to install", find your ROM, and flash away! (DO NOT rename your ROM to "update.zip", this name must be reserved exclusively for clockwork recovery...so never rename anything to update.zip, and never delete your existing update.zip)
Now, if you are using Clockwork, it sounds like it may be a corrupt .zip. Redownload the ROM and try again (I would suggest downloading from a PC).
Ty for the quick reply.
Im on the road now so ill try it when I get home

thats what i use. download/install OCLF....select root device, when the script finishes, reboot into recovery. select reinstall packages. you are now rooted.....continue on with clockwork installation
Alright ima get on that.

Oclf doesnt have a root option?
The one from the market right?

do you mean it has it, but you arent able to use it? it should be the first or second option
------
if its there, but its not available to you, these means you are already rooted.....which is not possible if you ODINed back to stock...........if you need, i can give you the root update.zip to flash through recovery....basically all OCLF does is install the update.zip to your sdcard for you to flash through the stock recovery. then you flash it and it installs busybox and superuser, and youre rooted.
now once you download ROM manager and select "flash clockwork" it will install the clockwork update.zip to your sdcard (which obviously replaces the previous root update.zip, but you dont lose root).
so do you see how this works now?

[Q] No camera app on any roms

I've tried Kenneth's alien Rom and was having issues with both the dialer app and the camera app - both were not installed I even tried flashing the stock cam and the d3 cam, neither did the trick. Fed up with that I installed Navalynt's Cherry pi rom and now the dialer works(whew!) but the camera app is still not appearing in the app drawer... I've already tried flashing both the stock cam and the d3 cam both did nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I haven't had this at all... are you doing wipes before you install? After install are you restoring from a back up? Maybe that back up is the issue but every rom I have had none of those issues

Well, I think the problem was that I was doing wipes with Rom manager and not Tenfar's CWM... I'm gonna install Tenfar's and see if that works for me.
Definitely use tenfars I should have mentioned that rom managers recovery for artist does not seem to work as well

Any pointers on how to install fastboot? I used the auto bootloader unlock and didn't have to install fastboot.
Fastboot is not something you need to install its already on the phone... as far as your computer goes its just a file you have in a directory that you access via commandline

I think there is something wrong with the ROM... I installed it and had problems with the camera/camcorder apps, using both tenfars cwm and ROM managers cwm (* wiping with both). I uninstalled/reinstalled many times and eventually got it working. then my webtop was missing.... so i installed the webtop again and reloaded a backup I made of the alien build 3 with functioning camera app and it was gone again!! any ideas on this?
Edit- new build # 4 has fixes... I rebooted my stock backup with functioning stock camera/camcorder and loaded ROM. rebooted in recovery using both tenfar and ROM manager.. still no camera or camcorder.
Don't use Rom Manager for recovery. It doesn't wipe properly.
Use the recovery here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500.
They seem to be the same, but they are not. Also, do not update CWM with Rom Manager.

I think I figured it out. I was wiping but not rebooting recovery. its working now. not sure how they are different to be honest with you aside from color rendering, they access the same android recovery mode, no? I have both because I have my backups from ROM manager and tenfars because everyone claims works better.

I don't remember which recovery I used (tenfars or rom manager) but wipe everything then reboot recovery, not reboot now. Install from sd and then reboot now
*edit also use latest version, build 4

Problems occur sometimes when something is missed when delating i.e deleting cache, dalvik cache or factory reset etc is missed. Did you do all?
Also i once had a problem because i was using a download manager and partially paused the download. When i switched my laptop back on to resume the download ...it did resume and it did download the entire ROM but somewhere something got corrupted and i couldn't get past the boot screen.
Above is just my personal opinion. No harm in trying to re download a new ROM.

[Q] Dual Booting AOKP ICS ROM

Hey guys...
I use boot manager to boot between ROMs. My main ROM is Gingeritis3D v1.2 and I was going to set my other ROM as the new AOKP ICS ROM, but when I go to install it, I am prompted to select a boot.img to install from.
Which one should I choose?
My options are boot.img and _MACOSX/._boot.img
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
I would think that it would be boot.img but I don't use boot manager so I don't know anything about it.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
That's what I was thinking... but Idk.
Oh well, I'm going for it anyways. Haha.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
So I chose boot.img anyways and it worked just fine.
Flashed right into the AOKP ROM and it ran perfectly.
Scared me once I got into the ROM because boot manager didn't want to work since I wasn't signed into my Gmail.. and I couldn't find out how to sign in. And without signing in and getting the app to work, I couldn't get back to my main ROM.
And then my brain started working for once.
Anyways, on a side note, if anyone chooses to dual boot to the AOKP ROM....
Once you've booted into the AOKP ROM from boot manager, you cannot sign into Gmail account... or at least I couldn't. This kept the boot manager app from being accessible.
So if this happens to you and you also cannot find a way to sign into your Gmail account, don't panic and don't bother wasting time wiping or restoring a nandroid.
Just reboot into recovery, install zip from sd card, choose zip from sd card, navigate down the the boot manager folder, navigate to phone ROM, select update.zip, and flash it. Press the back soft key button and then reboot system now.
You should then be back on your main ROM.
I want to try this rom normally but it keeps rebooting. Im not using boot manager. Any ideas?

Unable to flash aosp roms

After running just about every ROM for this device, I recently flashed my first stock based ROM (cooked 1.8). However since this time I've been unable to flash back to any aosp ROM. I get boot looped on every one. I've tried everything. Yet, I can flash cooked again no problem. I know there's something I'm missing. Any help would be great.

You have a nandroid backup right? Restore that then flash whatever you want.

Backup won't boot either. That was my first plan.

Have you tried to format system under mounts and storage after your factory reset, and before you flash your rom and gapps? Just a suggestion. Not sure it will fix you problem or not. It seems as if I had a problem similar to what you are describing after running a Samsung based rom in the past. I believe that was the cure to my issue.

Search for Siyah kernel v4.3.3 in the forums and install, restart recovery and flash away. Should take care of it.

I always have kept that kernel on standby but that didn't work. I've tried every kernel. Can't believe backups won't even boot. I flashed cook's ROM wipe before his ROM the first time, wonder if that did something.

Try Odin to stock and start from scratch. A lot of work but hey what do you have to lose.

First find a compatible Kernel for the AOSP ROM your trying to flash. Flash that Kernel.
Second, after the flashing is done, reformat the device; cache, dalkiv cache and system and system settings.
Third, reboot into recovery mode from the recovery menu itself.
Fourth, flash the kernel one more time.
Fifth, flash the AOSP ROM of your choice.
Sixth, reboot back into recovery menu.
Seventh, reformat once more.
Eigth, reboot the device.
As you should know, the first boot up after flashing a ROM takes the longest. Give it like a minute or two.
If this doesn't work, you have to flash a kernel that was compatible with the "cooked" rom you were using. Then from there do a reformat from the recovery menu. Once reformat is done, flash the AOSP kernel, then flash the AOSP ROM right after. Then reformat once more and reboot as normal.
If that doesn't work, flash compatible kernel with the "cooked" ROM your using now and also relay the cooked ROM, and then use Odin to bring it back to stock un-rooted. From there, do as you wish.

That is exactly what needed to be done. Mr cook actually has another thread with cwm flashable wipe scripts that would have done that. Quite handy
