Any developers working on Webtop over DLNA or know if this would even be possible? I've seen several threads on Webtop over HDMI (wired) as well as HDMI mirroring. Just curious if anyone knows if Webtop over DLNA (wireless) would be possible. To me, that would be a HUGE win so I could have my phone sitting on the table next to the couch without having to run a cable across the room to the TV.
Haven't tried the Webtop yet to see what else it offers but right now I just use a DLNA app to push my files to the TV.
The webtop is powered by an hdmi framebuffer module in the kernel. Unless you know of any way to enable dlna over linux. However, you would be able to setup a vnc server on the webtop system and connect to it from any vnc client.
but can you activate the webtop without using the hdmi cable?

Yes you can problem is that you cant see anything, but you can use the command line and attempt it blind, not sure how to do that or if we have a vnc server working with the Full ubuntu on the Atrix now.
Manual Launch works without hdmi cable

wow this would be so cool....good one
Mods, any chance of moving this thread back to the Development section? I know I framed this as a question, but I was hoping this would be treated as a request for development and don't want this to get lost in the Q/A section. I'm pretty sure a lot of folks would appreciate the ability to do Webtop over DLNA if it's possible.
for doing this it is necessary to capture framebufer content (1080p?) into video stream and send it via HTTP or RTP streaming to DLNA client. I suppose http streaming is most suitable for media with predefined size, so RTP should be used, not sure how much DLNA clients are supporting RTP streaming...
any thoughts?
localhost:~# cat debtop.sh
Code:
export PATH=/system/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/bin:$PATH
export TERM=linux
export USER=root
export HOME=/root
cd /tmp
rm -r -f .X1-lock
rm -rf .X11-unix
cd /root
vncserver -geometry 1280x960
You need tightvncserver installed.
edit: here is the result - http://dev.gitbrew.org/~dasmoover/debdroid/debtop-vncmode.jpg

and you need a vncviewer on client side to see something, but DLNA could help to use your DLNA compatible TV Set without HDMI wired connection as a display.
Oh how sweet this would be
I would really like to be able to use webtop over dlna. are any devs working on this??
The New Quest
This is actually somthing I was just thinking about too. I've only had the atrix for about a week but this was one of the first things I thought about when I was reading about webtop. I think I might know some dev's that could get me some real insight on the how two's of DLNA the real work would be configing an ubuntu img to launch that way. I'm deffinitly gunna look into this idea.
Was wondering if there is any kind of root mod/hack to allow HDMI out when it is blocked by the specific app? For example, I can stream video from many apps out through an MHL-to-HDMI adapter to my TV perfectly. Other apps (like the ATT Uverse app) issue an error popup that says HDMI out is unsupported.
Is this something the app must explicitly support, or is the app specifically blocking this feature, and if so, is there a ROM or hack out there that I can load to overcome this?
S-off running a rooted stock ROM currently..
Thanks.
Is there anyone that can write an app that removes HDMI checks for Android streaming apps that don't work on eg. Android tv boxes that has an HDMI Out connection?
Eg. You decompile an app and then nthe app can search the files in the decompiled app folder for HDMI intents and help you to remove them.
Or the app could run on Android and allow you to disable certain intents for selected apps like android.intent.action.HDMI_PLUGGED or HDMI_AUDIO_PLUG
like Autostart Manager in ROM Toolbox Lite app(that don't work correctly).
On KitKat there was an app called HDMI Virtual Switch that could hide the state of an HDMI connection.
http://freaktab.com/filedata/fetch?id=545672
But on Lollipop firmware that file's value gets changed back to a 1 immediately after you save it again.
echo "0">/sys/devices/virtual/display/HDMI/state
As soon as I do this it changes, but when I open the file, it jumps back to a value of '1' and is then disabled again.
The app will need to change this file and keep it like that without Android system changing it back to '1' automatically.
Or is there another solution to solve this problem?
The app can perhaps also try to remove
Proxy and VPN checks &
ADB Checks

for HDMI checks?
I'd also like an app like this. I have fire TV and trying to run Brighthouse TV app through it won't run because of being hooked to television through HDMI. I have a brighthouse subscription just trying to get away from paying $30 a month for their boxes, remotes etc
Anyone that has any tips on disabling HDMI checks? I'm sure there are lots of talented people here and there are lots of apps with HDMI checks that just won't work on Android TV Boxes.
The DirecTV app is a good example
Use SoundAbout app from playstore u can choose default route sound from speaker, hdmi, Bluetooth etc..etc.. like control panel on windows
Hello guys.
I’m working on a new app for Android TV and I was wondering if anyone of you know a way to make the TV show the image via ADB when I go into a specifi source in the TV. At the moment as soon via the ADB I open YouTube or any other video app, the screen stays black and the same when I change source and I go for example into the HDMI 1-2-3 etc... there is a way to actually make the TV show the image via ADB also in these occasions?
Because I’m working on a porting of Hue Sync and my small app use the wireless ADB of the TV on a server winth Windows on it in order to sync the lights, and everything works great till the point I change source or I start any type of video...
Many thanks!
I just found my „old“ iptv box from my old ISP.
After a bit of googling i found out it runs on android.
I managed to plug in a usb keyborard and mouse and was able to open the „Calendar“ app using Win+C.
I can also take screenshots using PrintScreen and go into the Android Keyboard settings. There is no nav neither a status bar.
Is there any possibility to get into the „Settings“ app so i can enable ADB and upload my own APKs?
The Box has only gotten a USB A, HDMI, Ethernet, Audio and Power Port. If there is any need, i can also upload an image of it.
Thanks in advance!
